Jim Boardman and Jay Reid return with an episode of Scouser Tommies that rides the highs and lows of a rollercoaster week for Liverpool. It stung to be knocked out of the Champions League, but with a League title still very much in our own hands, thoughts now turn to the potential glory of a Wembley final. The midweek clash with PSG ended in the bitter disappointment of the lottery that is a penalty shootout, one that didn't go the Reds' way. Despite the disappointment, Jay and Jim reflect on a campaign that exceeded expectations, even if it ended in a game that might have been a final were it not for UEFA's weird seeding system. Darwin was one of the heroes of the first-leg, but when it came to the shootout did the Uruguayan striker sense the collective anxiety of a packed Anfield Stadium? Before that the Reds faced Southampton in the league, and went behind after an uncharacteristic mix-up between two of the stalwarts at the back for LFC. But something we've seen from Arne Slot since he took the reins at Anfield is his ability to make key changes during a match, especially at half time, and that's exactly what he did this time, with Darwin on a rollercoaster and ending the day with a smile. The league game before that saw the Reds beat Newcastle 2-0 in a convincing victory under the floodlights. Now Wembley is calling and that's who stands in the way of League Cup glory for the second year in a row for the Reds. Also for the second year in a row, Trent is out injured. With Ibou also a worry, Jay and Jim discuss LFC's squad depth and tactical flexibility. Is Quansah ready to fill in at right-back, or will Arne Slot's suggestion of playing one of the left-backs there come into being? Liverpool fans always find a way, but once again there have been travel woes for those lucky enough to be heading to Wembley, including a train strike that was called off yet hardly made things better. And, for some reason, it seems there's been a lot more good will shown to the Toon Army than anything the travelling Kop has ever had when it comes to public transport options for the journey south. That said, the costs involved are eye-watering whichever side of the Pennines you're travelling from. As for the final itself, Jay and Jim are confident as long as Liverpool are at their best, the way they've been for most of this season. Hopefully there's enough experience in there for nerves not to be an issue. Next up for the Reds is a long break from matches, at least domestically, before the Anfield derby next month, and if Slot's men do bring that Milk Cup home, maybe it would be a good time to show it off to the fans. Maybe one person in particular could show it off… Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

This week, with Johnny's job count at 8 (or is it 7?), we reunited two old friends who met as teenagers with no idea of the journey that lay ahead. Padraig Amond was the hurler under a different name from Carlow with football ambitions. Eoin Doyle was a ‘lunatic' from Dublin with no idea that he could make a living from the game. But both these cats got the cream, one of them scoring versus Man City and the other playing for every club that wasn't in the Premier League. In our weirdest mailbag to date, the electronic telegrams are asking about the Pat Scully bus trip, Super Sundays with Paul Cook, flares of the non-trousered variety, and clock-watching on the pitch. The two lads delve into their formative years, from Crumlin days and Milk Cup adventures in the shadow of Anthony Stokes to learning the game with Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers. There's a £25 million deal, a couple of dumb country fellas and the pros and cons of making it as a latecomer. Late developers may be on topic this week, but after listening to what we've gotten for you in conjunction with Rascals, Future Ticketing and Collar & Cuff, like the crowds so far, we're way ahead of the curve.
Another week, another load of Reds stuff to talk about as Jim Boardman and Jay Reid return with the latest from Liverpool, including big wins and the League Cup final. Those wins were both 4-1, one away, one at home, and came despite Liverpool playing with one of the most depleted squads since that horrendous ‘Covid season'. If anything the Reds seem to be finding more strength in the adversity this time round. Maybe that's why fans of other clubs are feigning surprise that Reds fans dare to even mention injuries, claiming their own clubs have had it much tougher. Must be nice living on their planet. Maybe they're top of the league there. Anfield took its time to get going, as did the players. Sometimes it feels like the players are waiting for the fans to start, but the fans are waiting for the players, like some kind of confused etiquette at a posh meal. Thankfully someone was on hand to get everyone tucking in and after that the Reds - fans and players - didn't look back. Luton's manager suggested the noise had frightened his players. Jay thinks it was the best atmosphere of the season. It sent us into the cup final weekend top of the league, knowing we'll still be there after the final, whatever anyone else does. After fist pumps for all four Anfield stands, Klopp now leads his players and many of those fans to a supposedly neutral venue, Wembley, down in that London, for that Milk Cup final. It might be more local to Chelsea fans than Kopites, but we have good reasons for calling it Anfield South, one of which is how there always seem to be more of us than them. If you're one of them, don't forget your voice - and don't expect to arrive home with one! On this week's show: - 4-1 - 4-1 - Not so many options on the bench - Running out of forwards - But not left backs - How would other clubs cope with so many missing? - Virgil's determination - A proper captain - Referee's unexpected influence - Klopp's half-time talk - Conor taken off ready for Sunday - The European Draw - a local event? - Hoping for something nearer to home - New comedy show set in Liverpool - G'wed - Talking of comedy, the latest from the neighbours - Look ahead to Wembley - Which Chelsea will turn up? - We might need the youngsters - good they've been getting a taste of playing in front of huge, loud, crowds Learn more about your ad choices. Another brace of wins for Jim Boardman and Jay Reid to talk about in this week's episode, as the Reds players get ready for their very short winter break. With the league briefly put to one side, focus for Liverpool shifted to the domestic cups and Klopp sent out strong sides for both games, the FA Cup 3rd round against Arsenal and the first-leg semi of what some of us still call the Milk Cup against Fulham. The season started with fairly low expectations, getting back into the Champions League probably as ambitious as many of us felt was realistic. Yet here we are, top of the league and still in all three cups - but we'd be mad to get carried away with that, there's still a long way to go. That's kind of how we think on our side of Stanley Park, one game at a time, feet on the ground, fearful of a telling off from the late Ronnie Moran if we dare to think more than one game ahead. Yet across the park they took a break from a run of three league defeats by getting a draw in the cup and now seem to think their name's on the trophy. To be fair to them, it is, right next to ‘1995'. On this week's episode: - Arsenal in the cup, a 2-0 win - Fulham in the other cup, a 2-1 win - The kids done good - Curtis Jones first choice midfielder? - Connor Bradley - still needs care, but genuine cover for Trent? - The Darwin Nunez narrative continues - Luis Diaz on the right, Darwin on the left, the future? - What was that about only watering half a pitch? - LFC not letting clubs mess about with loaned Reds - Bristol Rovers or Norwich next in the cup - The instant memories of Norwich games - good or bad? - The impact of the new training centre - an investment we need to give more credit for? - No coincidence so many young players are starting to break through? - Liverpool landmark to lose its identity? - Radio City got so many Reds through so many European nights and so much more - Faceless corporations want it gone, replaced by something without any of the character or history - Local radio still has a place - but how long can it keep the vultures away? - Fan media like Anfield Index all the more vital? Damian Mullan and Johnny McNabb were pleased to welcome new signing Eamon Fyfe on this week's Official Coleraine Podcast. The striker joined the Bannsiders in the January transfer window from Dundela and spoke about how the move came about, his admiration for Oran Kearney and facing Linfield on his debut. The 24-year-old also discusses his GAA background, playing in the Milk Cup with Matthew Shevlin and his appreciation to Dundela for giving him his chance in Irish League football. The show - sponsored by Radio Taxis - also looks ahead to this weekend's Irish Cup ties and the upcoming away game against Newry City, with some predictions thrown in for good measure.
Stamford Chidge interviews Paul Canoville, Chelsea's first black player and a skilful winger in his day, forever remembered for that game against Sheffield Wednesday.Paul Canoville was Chelsea's first black player and his story is incredible. Subjected to racist abuse on the terraces, Paul had to show huge strength of character and dignity to win over too many of his own supporters.Highlights of Paul's all too brief Chelsea career included a hat-trick against Swansea, but he played a crucial part in the legendary 4-4 draw away to Sheffield Wednesday in the Milk Cup in 1985, coming on as a second half substitute with Chelsea 3-0 down. Paul scored twice, his first after just eleven seconds, as Chelsea salvaged a remarkable draw.In arguably one of his most forthright, honest and moving interviews yet, Paul talks about his time as one of John Neal's great side; the players, the matches and the goals and his struggles with racism, drug addiction and homelessness after football. The idea is that Disney would use the membership program to make it more attractive for guests and customers to increase spending on all its products and services. For Disney, it would give more consumer data as to your spending habits and more.So would this mean the retirement of programs like D23?
