#932 | Ed and Adam break down Manchester United's upturn in form - and the growing sense that Rúben Amorim's ideas are finally taking hold. From the cynicism of a month ago to whispers of Champions League qualification (steady on), the mood around Old Trafford has changed fast. We dig into United's more direct, vertical style, Casemiro's resurgence, and Bruno Fernandes' rediscovered influence in Amorim's system. Beyond the pitch, there's talk of Liverpool's struggles, Forest's chaos, and how AFCON absences could test the squad's depth this winter just as momentum returns. The episode closes with cautious optimism and a look at United's next step in the rebuild - both on the field and off it. 00:00 Introduction 04:26 Tactical Changes Under Amorim 10:06 Casemiro's Resurgence 16:31 Liverpool's Struggles 23:57 Nottingham Forest's Managerial Chaos 30:03 Approaching the Forest Match 38:30 Squad Depth and Injury Concerns 44:58 Stadium Plans and Takeover Talk Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode we're talking about iconic moments from the greatest rivalry in the game. The focus is England or, more often than not, Great Britain against the old enemy, Australia. Ahead of the first Ashes series in 22 years, the panel discuss and debate what are, undoubtedly, some of the most memorable moments in the history of rugby league. From the game changing 'Invincibles' and 'Unbeatables' of the 1980s, to the ankle tap on Kallum Watkins in 2017 which denied England the chance to draw level and perhaps go on and win the World Cup for the first time in 45 years. In between, two tries from Henderson Gill, the second of which was celebrated with "a bit of a boogie", as described by the Australian commentators, were the highlight in 1988 of Great Britain's first victory against the Aussies in a decade and their first win Down Under for 18 years. Two years later, Ricky Stuart dummied his way up the field before finding Mal Meninga in support for a memorable, match-winning score at Old Trafford in the 'greatest ever test' to level the series and ultimately set the platform for Australia to retain the Ashes.1992 was the last time a Great Britain team took on a full tour of Australasia, led by the legendary Malcolm Reilly, the highlight of the series for the tourists was undoubtedly the Second Test in a cold and wet Melbourne. An all-Wigan pack led GB to a 33-10 victory, equalling their biggest ever win against Australia.Other iconic Great Britain moments up for discussion include Jonathan Davies' sensational try at Wembley, Adrian Morley's red card after 12 seconds and captain Jamie Peacock taking on Willie Mason after he'd floored Stuart Fielden. While, for England, there's Sam Burgess' 'breakthrough' score in the 2009 Four Nations Final and the controversy that became known as 'Pinkygate' after Ryan Hall had a late try ruled out which could have knocked Australia out of the 2014 Four Nations tournament. A decision England coach Steve McNamara described as “disappointing!”All iconic in their own right, but which will come out on top?
It's official! Scott Carson has retired from professional football after an incredible 22 year career, playing for the likes Leeds, Liverpool & Manchester City and England
Tom and George look back at a huge win over Liverpool at Anfield and what it means ahead of Brighton's visit to Old Trafford.
fWotD Episode 3091: Manchester United F.C. 9–0 Ipswich Town F.C. Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Tuesday, 21 October 2025, is Manchester United F.C. 9–0 Ipswich Town F.C..The football match between Manchester United and Ipswich Town played at Old Trafford, Manchester, on 4 March 1995 as part of the 1994–95 FA Premier League finished in a 9–0 victory for the home team. The result stands as the joint record, with Southampton having subsequently lost by the same scoreline at home to Leicester City in 2019 and away at Manchester United in 2021, while Bournemouth also lost 9–0 to Liverpool in 2022. The two teams went into the match at opposite ends of the table; Manchester United were second, while Ipswich Town were second-last. In the corresponding fixture at Ipswich's Portman Road ground earlier in the season, they had beaten United 3–2. Manchester United were missing Eric Cantona, their French international forward who was serving a nine-month suspension, and their attacking partnership of Andy Cole and Mark Hughes was not well regarded by pundits.Playing in front of the highest attendance in the league to that point in the season, United scored three times in the first half; Roy Keane opened the scoring, before Cole added two more. In the second half, United scored four times in the first twenty minutes; Cole scored his third and fourth, while Hughes also scored two. Paul Ince scored United's eighth with a free kick into an empty net while Ipswich's goalkeeper Craig Forrest argued with the referee, before Cole scored a Premier League-record fifth goal, United's ninth, in the 89th minute. Ipswich finished the season in last place and were relegated by 18 points, while Manchester United finished second behind champions Blackburn Rovers. Despite the record score at Old Trafford, Ipswich's victory at Portman Road proved to be the more significant result with regard to the final placings, as Manchester United missed out on the title by a single point. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:30 UTC on Tuesday, 21 October 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Manchester United F.C. 9–0 Ipswich Town F.C. on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Bluesky at @wikioftheday.com.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm generative Stephen.

Scott McTominay left a struggling Man United to become Serie A's Most Valuable Player, win the Scudetto for Napoli and be nominated for the Ballon D'Or - all in one year. Was he this good all along? Is he finally getting the respect he always deserved? This episode of Football Daily, hosted by football writer and Copa 90 presenter Eugene Noble, goes right back to the start of Scott's incredible story and explores the making of McTominay: How he grew from the Man Utd academy, to being taken under José Mourinho's wing, to performing on the international stage. We speak to coaches and players who knew him at the academy, like Paul McGuinness and James Weir, as well as podcasters, pundits and fans like Jay Motty, Joe Fischetti and Umberto Bernardo, who have tracked his career from Old Trafford to the Neapolitan sun. We also hear from football journalists like Mina Rzouki about how Scott has transformed under Antonio Conte, as well as Scottish Legend and commentator Pat Nevin about how he is becoming a symbol for the nation in the blue shirt of Scotland. We even speak to Scotland head coach Steve Clarke about Scott's crucial role to the international team and a conversation that sparked Scott's career back into life. In 2026, McTominay is facing his biggest season yet: Napoli have a title to defend. They're back in the champions league. And Scotland have their world cup qualifier campaign already underway. So the question isn't just how Scott McTominay got here - it's how much higher can he go?

Gary Neville reflects on Chelsea's last-minute win over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League and suggests that Arne Slot has several key issues that he needs to resolve, including Florian Wirtz's start to life at Anfield. Plus, Gary responds after Ruben Amorim suggested that his players have been influenced by media criticism of his system at Old Trafford.
#921 | Another week, another crisis. United collapse 3–1 at Brentford and the questions keep piling up. Ed and Adam pick through the wreckage - from fan fury to the manager's failing system, and the uncomfortable truth that some of United's best performers are currently thriving out on loan. There's a broader look at the club's structure, coaching set-up, and whether the board has the courage (or competence) to act. Who would take the reins if Amorim goes? And what does it say about United's trajectory that Europe's top competition rolls on without them? Finally, a glance towards Sunderland at Old Trafford, and whether the players - and the manager - can arrest the slide. Gabriel Martinelli equalised in the 93rd minute to rescue a point for Arsenal, but should it have been more? Did Arteta's cautious lineup against Man City cost Arsenal a vital win in the title race? With Liverpool now 5 points clear, is the Premier League slipping away? For the first time in over 600 games, Pep Guardiola went full-on park-the-bus against Arsenal. He subbed Nathan Ake on for Foden, Haaland off for Nico Gonzalez and switched to a back five. What does this new approach say about Man City's future under Pep?Chelsea lost again this time 2–1 at Old Trafford. That's now back-to-back defeats after also losing to Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Will Chelsea's wider strategy derail their season?Last week, Jamie Carragher said Harry Kane is England's greatest ever striker. At the same time, Erling Haaland broke another Champions League record by becoming the fastest to reach 50 goals in just 49 games. And don't forget Liverpool spent £130 million on Alexander Isak to help fire them to the title. So today on The Club, we're asking: who is the best striker in the world right now?Rory, Adam and Buvey are in the studio to discuss all this and more in the latest episode of the Club. It was a rough week for Chelsea. First came a spirited but losing effort against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, followed by a truly shambolic defeat at Old Trafford to Manchester United.Manny and Simon pull no punches in their review. They call out Enzo Maresca's worst week as Chelsea manager so far, criticizing his tactical approach and some of his choices. The lads also highlight the players who let the side down against United, with Robert Sánchez's poor decision-making and costly red card top of the list. But while it was a bad week, it's not the end of the world. The hosts push back against the hysterical reaction from some pundits and fans to the end of Chelsea's strong run of form. It's football: bad weeks happen. The message is simple — onwards and upwards!
Marcus, Vish and Jim are back to discuss a thigh-rubbing weekend of Premier League football which included an Old Trafford edition of Takeshi's Castle that presumably the Pope tuned in for.Elsewhere, Marcus is left wanting more from Arsenal after their Sunday afternoon slugfest with Man City, while there's a lot of love for Ryan Gravenberch. And speaking of love, Jim has the misfortune of falling down David Sullivan's Wikipedia page. A truly awful place. Please fill out Stak's listener survey! It was a weekend where two high profile Premier League games played out in very different ways.Musa and Ryan begin with a quick round-up, including Liverpool extending their lead at the top, thanks to their 2-1 win over Everton in the Merseyside derby (03:04). It was chaos at Old Trafford on a rain-soaked Saturday evening (07:44), but Manchester United did enough to get a much needed win against Chelsea. It took them level on points with Manchester City, where control was the name of the game in the 1-1 draw away at Arsenal (15:28), which saw Pep Guardiola record the lowest possession percentage of his managerial career. There's also a round-up of the Bundesliga (25:23), La Liga and Atleti's identity (30:28), Mourinho's return, including an accidental mini ‘what if' (36:08) and more!Don't forget to get tickets for our London live show at the Southbank Centre, which are on sale here. For more podcasts each week, ad-free and in full, plus access to the Stadio Social Club and much more, become a Stadio member by going to patreon.com/stadio. On the GW5 Review with Suj and James, Erling Haaland scores again and now for those not on the Manchester City forward the wave of transfers to buy him in has begun... Suj was already there, but will James continue to go against!? All the games reviewed, including Pep's City going low block as they tried to hold on at Arsenal, Liverpool won the Merseyside Derby, West Ham and Wolves were beaten again and though they didn't win James was far happier with what he saw from Tottenham at The Amex. There's a theme of enablers as those looking to get Haaland in may also need to find money, Cole Palmer's latest setback in a wild defeat for Chelsea at Old Trafford puts him in a 'no buy' territory, whilst the frustrations with Villa assets continues and there's repeated warnings about upcoming rotation. You could call England's 2-0 win at home to Andorra "professional", but whether you think that's a compliment depends on whether you talk to Marcus or Vish.Today, they are joined by Jim and Pete to discuss England, Scotland and an 82-year-old goalkeeper in Italy. Plus, we wonder when a sinkhole will open up in the middle of the pitch at Old Trafford. Please fill out Stak's listener survey!
