"Bapak dan keluarga mau ke mana?" tanya si pemilik kedai. Bapak itu memberitahukan tujuannya. "Oh, kota itu. Saya tahu," jawabnya. "Kalau begitu dapatkah Anda menceritakan bagaimana orang-orang yang ada di sana?" tanya kepala keluarga tersebut. Bukannya menjawab, pemilik kedai malah bertanya balik, "Orang-orang seperti apakah yang kalian temukan di tempat asal kalian?" "Mereka adalah orang-orang yang payah," isteri bapak itu segera menjawab. "Benar. Mereka senang bergosip, cuek, egois. Kami senang bisa pindah dari sana," jawab anak-anaknya. Salah satu alasan yang dikemukakan oleh para pegawai mengapa mereka mau berhenti bekerja dan pindah ke tempat lain adalah karena orang-orang di kantor mereka yang tidak bersahabat. "Di sini orang-orangnya suka menusuk dari belakang. Mereka berkompetisi dengan curang. Pribadinya tidak menyenangkan," begitulah ungkapan mereka. Namun yang menjadi masalah sebenarnya bukanlah orang-orang tapi kita sendiri. Kalau tanpa campur tangan Tuhan dan sesama ia tidak bisa apa-apa, tidak bisa menjadi baru.Sakramen-sakramen dan bimbingan rohani adalah dua dari banyak cara yangmembantu seseorang untuk mengalami dirinya menjadi baru.  Salah satu isi firman Tuhan yang menggerakkan kita untukmenciptakan hati yang baru ialah seperti yang diwartakan oleh bacaan-bacaanhari ini. Firman Tuhan pada prinsipnya berisi kebijaksanaan Tuhan tentangbagaimana hidup semestinya dalam mengikuti Kristus. Pilihan kita mesti ke sana,seperti yang dilakukan oleh Salomo yang membuat hikmat hidupnya bisa menarikperhatian Ratu dari Syeba dan seluruh dunia. Kalau kita memilih dan menggunakanselalu kebijaksanaan, Tuhan menyediakan itu dan menyempurnakannya di dalamkita. Hati yang baru ialah hati yang bersih. Kotoran, kenajisan,fitnah, benci, dengki, dan marah mestinya dikeluarkan dari sana. Yesus memintakita supaya semua itu tidak disimpan di hati seperti kita menyimpan hartakekayaan dengan begitu aman. Semua itu menajiskan atau mengotori kita, jadiharus dikeluarkan melalui pemeriksaan batin lalu melepaskannya dengan bantuanorang lain dan Gereja. Ini sama sekali tak ada hubungan dengan makanan yanghalal dan tidak halal. Makanan atau minuman itu tidak pernah punya kaitandengan menciptakan hati yang baru. Hati yang baru adalah urusan rohani,sementara makanan dan minuman urusan perut dan jasmani. Sangatlah beda! Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa...
