Throughout the 1920, 30's, and 40's strange things happened in a small, oceanside town on the Alaskan Kenai Peninsula known as Portlock (Port Chatham). Portlock was a seemingly quiet cannery town. But people started to go missing while others were found seemingly brutally murdered or killed. Rumours began to circulate of a large yeti like creature stalking the woods. There were reports of man-like tracks 18 inches in length. People claimed to see and hear a wailing spirit, wandering the woods. I spoke to Brian Weed to try and find some answers. Halloween is here! I know it's been awhile since you've had some content from this show so I am happy to say, in light of my favourite time of year, I have a couple of one-off episodes to share with you. In this first Halloween special I sat down with friend and author Shanon Sinn to talk about a resident Vancouver Island phantom ship, the Valencia. We also talked about folklore in general and the new book Shanon is working on. I hope you enjoy our conversation. You can purchase Shanon's first book, "The Haunting of Vancouver Island", here.---Support the show on PatreonSupport the show on Buy me a Coffee---DISCLAIMER:The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are that of the creator and do not necessarily reflect that of any of the guests on this show. Hello listeners of The Missing and Unexplained Podcast! I have a new podcast titled "True to the Story". Don't worry! The Missing and Unexplained Podcast is not going anywhere. In fact, I am currently doing research for season 3 which I am hoping to release later this year. True to the Story is just another vehicle for me to tell stories not entirely linked to missing persons or crime. You can subscribe to True to the Story where you get your podcasts, including iTunes. True to the Story is a new podcast dedicated to long-form storytelling, with each season telling a true narrative. In this first series I look at the war in Afghanistan and the interpreters who served alongside the Canadian Armed Forces. From 2001-2014, over the course of 14 years, more than 40, 000 Canadian soldiers participated in the longest war in Canadian history. Now in 2021 many of these Canadian Afghan war vets are fighting a different fight: Their fighting to get these same interpreters who helped them in Afghanistan to safety in Canada. This is the story of these interpreters, the crucial role they played in helping the Canadian Armed Forces, and their ultimate journey to try and seek shelter in Canada...Episode 1 will be coming in the following weeks. In this final episode I look at another disappearance on the PCT, and I discuss some possible sightings of Kris and the theories surrounding his disappearance.I want to thank everyone who took part in this series and helped bring Kris' story to life. I want to especially thank Sally for taking so much time to talk to me and being open to this series. I hope we bring Kris home soon. With the storm of the decade headed towards the Pacific Northwest and Washington State, Kris and other hikers hesitated on whether to continue hiking the PCT. Ultimately, Kris was determined to hike Washington state in its entirety. After re-supplying in Packwood, on October 12, 2016, Kris started out on the trail near the White Pass trailhead and seemingly vanished into the woods. Thank you to Pickles, Sally, David, and Aaron who chatted with me for this episode. If you know anything about Kris' disappearance, please contact the Yakima County Sheriff's office at 509-574-2500.Support me on Patreon hereBring Kris Fowler Home Facebook Page---DISCLAIMER:The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are that of the creator and do not necessarily reflect that of any of the guests on this show. In this first episode I explore Kris' life prior to deciding to hike the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). I chat with his stepmother, Sally, about Kris' childhood, and chat with Jeff, one of Kris' best friends, about his time in school and university. Ultimately, a major shift in Kris' life prompts him to start planning to hike the PCT with his friend Colin. On Mother's Day, May 8, 2016, 34-year-old Kris Fowler set out the Pacific Crest Trail, a 2,653 mile hike stretching from Mexico to Canada, all through the west coast of the United States. But on October 12, with less than 400 miles to go on the trail, Kris, who had stopped in Packwood Washington for supplies, set off to resume the PCT near White Pass in the Cascade mountain range. Kris was hoping to get ahead of a brewing storm, one that people would later claim was the biggest Washington State had experienced in decades. As other hikers left the trail to wait out the inclement weather, Kris, in his sandals, set off into the dense Washington wilderness and seemingly vanished into the thick wilderness of the Pacific Northwest.Support me on Patreon here.---DISCLAIMER:The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are that of the creator and do not necessarily reflect that of any of the guests on this show.
