This episode originally aired on September 30, 2024. On June 24, 2024, 21-year-old Zyanya Valora stayed up late after her parents went to bed. In the early morning hours of June 25, around 2:30 AM, she is believed to have left their home in Ojai, California. Her family suspects she was barefoot and wearing a tank top and shorts.Later that morning, Zyanya's parents assumed she was simply sleeping in, as young people often do. However, around 11 AM, her mother, Damaris, discovered that her daughter was not in her room or anywhere inside their home. Concerned, Damaris called her husband at work and began searching the neighborhood. After failing to find Zyanya, Damaris reported her daughter missing. An extensive search was conducted for Zyanya, who has autism and was considered at-risk. The Ventura County Sheriff's Office, along with other agencies, dedicated five days to searching the area. Unfortunately, despite those efforts, no trace of Zyanya was found at the time.Since this episode first aired, there has been an update in Zyanya's case. In September of 2025, after 15 months of searching, Zyanya's remains were discovered in the Ventura Riverbed in Ojai. Her cause and manner of death were later ruled undetermined. We will share more about this update at the end of the episode. If you have a missing loved one that you would like to have featured on the show, please fill out our case submission form.Follow The Vanished on social media at:FacebookInstagramPatreonSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
On January 17, 2026, eighty-three-year-old Gail Crane was reported missing from her home in May's Lick, Kentucky. Investigators determined her former caretaker, Rita Lang, who had been let go the day prior, was a person of interest. Crane was located a hundred miles away inside Lang's vehicle with unexplained injuries. Lang was charged with kidnapping.Sixteen days later, eighty-four-year-old Nancy Guthrie was reportedly abducted from her home in the Catalina Foothills of Tucson, Arizona.Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke examine the structural parallels between the two cases and whether the caregiver-orbit theory applies to the Guthrie investigation. Nancy lived alone with a predictable routine and a rotating set of individuals with access to her property and schedule. Investigators have publicly stated her family has been cleared. The central evidentiary challenge to this theory is the doorbell camera footage. The individual on Nancy's porch reportedly did not know the camera was present — a reaction inconsistent with someone who had regular access to the property. Robin provides the FBI behavioral framework for evaluating whether this detail eliminates the insider theory or whether a secondary scenario — an individual inside the orbit directing a third party — remains viable. The discussion also addresses investigative methodology: how the orbit list is constructed, what “cleared” means procedurally in an active investigation, and how far publicly available information could take a stranger.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke apply a uniform evidentiary and behavioral standard to the three dominant theories in the Nancy Guthrie investigation: the anonymous Mexico tip, the insider-orbit theory, and the staging claim. The Mexico tip was delivered to Buscando Corazones Nogales on Mother's Day via an anonymous male caller who described clothing, landmarks, and a specific location in the Mariposa arroyos west of Nogales, Sonora. Two searches conducted by volunteers on May 16th and June 10th located no remains. The caller provided revised directions after each unsuccessful search and did not pursue over a million dollars in available reward money. The Pima County Sheriff's Department has not been contacted by Mexican authorities regarding the tip.The insider theory positions the answer within Nancy Guthrie's orbit — individuals with routine access to her property and schedule. The structural parallel to the Gail Crane case in Kentucky, in which an eighty-three-year-old was taken by a terminated caregiver sixteen days prior, is addressed. The central evidentiary challenge is the doorbell camera footage, which indicates the suspect was unaware of the recording device. The staging claim asserts the abduction was manufactured. Robin evaluates it against the absence of any documented precedent and the investigative framework for determining scene authenticity. The Guthrie family's million-dollar reward and its implications for the staging allegation are examined. Robin identifies the specific evidence that would be required for the claim to warrant formal investigative consideration.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? www.marktreichel.comhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-treichel/In May, NCUA conserved Jackson Area Federal Credit Union, and I recorded an episode saying I suspected the reported cash wasn't real. This follow-up walks through what the public record now confirms. The institution reported about $162 million in assets and 9.2% net worth, but only 28% of assets in loans, roughly 66% in cash, and $41 million in non-member deposits it didn't appear to need — the pattern that prompted my phantom-cash thesis. Since then, NCUA filed a restated call report recognizing a $91.7 million loss, cutting cash by $93.6 million, and swinging net worth from positive 9% to negative 107%, leaving the institution materially insolvent. On June 11th, NCUA filed a federal complaint alleging the former CEO diverted at least $95 million for personal use — roughly $51 million in false deposit entries plus overstated corporate-credit-union cash, the exact mechanism I had inferred from the 5300. The complaint also details alleged personal spending and a co-defendant spouse, and references an admission made to the board and NCUA in April.I cover the separation-of-duties failure at the center of the case (one person signed the filings and held wire authority), why an examiner is not a fraud auditor, the likely $77 million-plus hit to the share insurance fund, and the coming Inspector General material loss review. I close on the macro backdrop: fewer exams and a contemplated FFIEC change to CAMELS, and what that trade-off means for boards over the long run.

The fall of the Lordship of the Isles didn't just fracture a clan — it set off a centuries-long story of survival, rivalry, and extinction. In Part 2, we continue our deep dive into the independent branches that emerged from the ruins of Clan Donald, focusing on four clans that carved out their own identities and legacies — and honoring the branches that didn't survive into the modern era.If you haven't listened to Part 1 yet, start there — we lay the groundwork with the history of the Lordship, its forfeiture in 1493, and an introduction to the major branches of Clan Donald. The Branches Covered in This Episode:

Disclaimer: Gina tried to do something new with her audio set up and failed miserably. Please forgive her underwater sound this week. Part two of our deep dive into the HaLeigh Cummings case picks up where the investigation gets darker — and more complicated. Within days of HaLeigh's disappearance, Misty Croslin's story had already changed multiple times. She gave different versions to law enforcement and the media, failed every polygraph she took (despite publicly claiming otherwise), and investigators received tips suggesting she may not have even been in the home when HaLeigh went missing. By August 2009 — on what would have been HaLeigh's sixth birthday — authorities made it official: they did not believe a stranger had taken her. The physical evidence contradicted Misty's account, and she, they said, held the answers. In a bizarre turn, Ronald Cummings and Misty married in March 2009 — while searches for HaLeigh were still actively underway. By October, they had divorced. Both returned to drug use, which opened the door for investigators to run a sting operation. Over two months, an undercover detective purchased thousands of dollars in oxycodone and hydrocodone from Misty, Ronald, and three others. Misty was present at every single transaction. When all five were arrested in January 2010, investigators hoped the weight of the drug trafficking charges — minimums of 25 years — would finally shake loose the truth about HaLeigh. What followed was one of the most gut-wrenching moments in this case: a detailed, disturbing confession from Misty's brother Tommy about what happened to HaLeigh — followed by a three-day river search, a recovered concrete block, and then a full retraction. Tommy admitted he had made the entire story up. Misty was sentenced to 25 years. Ronald took a plea deal for 15. And HaLeigh has never been found. A retired state investigator went on record with his theory: the child accidentally ingested drugs and someone panicked and disposed of her body. We close this episode by bringing it back to HaLeigh herself — who she was, what she looked like, and how you can still help. If you have information about the HaLeigh Cummings disappearance, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office tip line is 1-888-277-8477. A $15,000 reward remains available.
Disclaimer: Gina tried to do something new with her audio set up and failed miserably. Please forgive her underwater sound this week. On February 10, 2009, five-year-old HaLeigh Ann-Marie Cummings vanished from her home in Satsuma, Florida — a small rural community along the St. Johns River in Putnam County. Her disappearance became one of the most heartbreaking and confounding missing child cases in Florida true crime history. In this episode of Weird True Crime, hosts Amber and Gina introduce us to HaLeigh: a curly-haired kindergartner at Browning Pearce Elementary School who loved nail polish, mac and cheese, and taking care of her baby brother. Her family called her "little mama." She was 39 pounds, five years old, and by every account, completely adored. We walk through the family background — the custody battle between her father Ronald Cummings and her mother Crystal Sheffield, the move to rural Satsuma, and the arrival of 17-year-old Misty Croslin, who had been living in the home and watching the children while Ronald worked second shift. On the night of February 9th into the early morning hours of February 10th, Ronald was at work. Misty was the only adult present. When Ronald came home at 3:25am, HaLeigh was gone. Within minutes, a 911 call went out — and within hours, investigators were already questioning whether the scene they found told the true story of what happened that night. This episode covers the initial search, the AMBER Alert, the FBI response, and the deeply troubling physical evidence: no forced entry, an undisturbed pile of laundry in front of the back door, HaLeigh's Hannah Montana shirt found in a place it shouldn't have been, and a crime scene that investigators would later describe as possibly staged. Misty Croslin's first account of the night begins to unravel almost immediately. If you're researching the HaLeigh Cummings case, Florida missing children cases, or true crime cold cases involving child disappearances, this is the episode to start with.

On December 19, 2025, 31-year-old Corey Bryant disappeared from the Bemidji, Minnesota area. In the weeks leading up to his disappearance, Corey's life had become increasingly unstable. Loved ones noticed that he seemed withdrawn and fearful of the people around him. Corey reportedly hinted that things had become “weird” where he was staying and suggested he no longer felt safe there.Concern escalated in January 2026 when Corey failed to appear for a scheduled court hearing. As family members began comparing notes, they realized no one had spoken to him in weeks. Then they learned that several people connected to Corey had allegedly told others that he was dead.At the same time, reports surfaced that Corey may have been seen in late January, but those claims quickly became muddled. The witness later backed away from what they had initially reported, leaving Corey's family to wonder whether it was an innocent mistake or something more intentional. The last known communication investigators have been able to establish from Corey was on the night he disappeared, when he spoke with a friend by phone. During that call, Corey reportedly said that he was afraid of the people around him. He ended the call after saying he would call back. No one ever heard from Corey again.Nearly two months later, Corey's black Kia was discovered abandoned on a trail, with his phone found inside the locked vehicle. For Corey's loved ones, the circumstances surrounding his disappearance have only become more unsettling with time. The stories are inconsistent, the timeline is difficult to untangle, and Corey's family is still searching for the truth. If you have any information about the disappearance of Corey Bryant, please contact the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office at 218-333-9111.If you have a missing loved one that you would like to have featured on the show, please fill out our case submission form.Follow The Vanished on social media at:FacebookInstagramPatreonSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
