A runner with a third metatarsal stress fracture was doing everything right. Her injured left foot was getting much better — but then her “good” right foot started aching. That can be frightening. Does it mean you are developing another stress fracture? In this episode, Dr. Christopher Segler explains why the uninjured foot can become overloaded when you are using a fracture walking boot, crutches, or a knee walker, how compensatory stress can trigger metatarsal aching, and why you should not simply ignore new pain in the other foot. You'll also learn why systematically tracking pain and activity can help you determine whether the aching foot is getting better or heading toward a more significant problem.
The fourth and final episode in Jonathan Wilson and Rob Draper's Total Football series explores Ajax's remarkable success under Stefan Kovacs and the Netherlands' unforgettable 1974 World Cup campaign.Kovacs inherited Rinus Michels' European champions but allowed the side's fluid, player-led style to evolve. Ajax continued to win major honours, including two European Cups, but growing player power and Johan Cruyff's influence created tensions beneath the success. As internal divisions deepened, Kovacs left, Cruyff departed for Barcelona, and Ajax's golden era began to unravel.Enter the 1974 World Cup. Despite a difficult qualification process and a squad shaped by rivalries, Michels and Cruyff assembled a side that thrilled the world. They swept past Argentina, overcame Brazil in a fiercely contested encounter, and brought Total Football to its global peak. But in the final against hosts West Germany, an early lead was not enough. Off-pitch distractions, overconfidence and German resilience contributed to a famous 2–1 defeat. The Dutch did not lift the World Cup, but their legacy was greater than a single trophy: Total Football transformed how the modern game is played. Veterinary medicine is changing. And if running your practice feels harder than it used to… it's not just you.In this episode, I explore what I believe is driving that feeling.Veterinary medicine is at a turning point, and the pressures facing practice owners today aren't isolated problems. They're symptoms of deeper changes happening across our profession.I unpack the two fractures I see emerging: the growing gap between practices and clients, and the widening disconnect between leaders and their teams. These fractures affect trust, culture and the way practices operate every day.I also introduce a concept I call leadership containment: building the clarity, ownership and accountability that stops every decision, every problem and every crisis from landing back on your desk.Because remarkable practices aren't built on leaders who carry everything themselves. They're built on systems that help great people take ownership, build trust and thrive. If you've been wondering why leadership feels heavier than it used to, this episode will help you understand what's changing - and how your practice can become stronger because of it.Episode Outline:[00:00] A profession at a turning point[01:20] Why everything feels heavier[02:54] The first fracture: trust[11:34] The second fracture: leadership[14:33] Why everything comes back to you[15:32] Leadership containment[17:47] Build systems that carry the weight[19:49] Strong practices start hereNeed Help Building a Practice That Doesn't Depend on You?If every problem still finds its way back to your desk, the answer probably isn't to work harder. It's to build a practice with the systems, clarity and leadership that allow great people to take ownership.Book a free call with me and we'll identify what's creating the biggest strain in your practice, where to focus first, and how to build a practice that's easier - and far more enjoyable - to lead.Book your free call: https://www.drdavenicol.com/book-your-callFollow Dr. Dave Nicol for More Leadership Insights:Follow Dr. Dave: @drdavenicolLearn more about the Veterinary Leadership AcademyEnjoyed this episode?Leave a review on iTunes and share it with your veterinary colleagues!

Can a stress fracture actually heal with too much bone? Yes - and in some runners, that extra bone canbecome a problem of its own. In this episode of the Doc On The Run Podcast, Dr. Christopher Segler explains why a very large bone callus does not always mean a stress fracture is safely healed. He walks through two runner cases: one in which a large callus hid an unstable fracture heading toward nonunion, and another in which prolonged irritation produced a completely healed but excessively thick metatarsal that crowded the surrounding soft tissues. In this episode you'll learn: • Why bone callus forms around a stress fracture • How continued motion can create a deceptively large callus • Why a big callus can coexist with an unstable fracture or nonunion • How prolonged irritation can leave a healed bone too thick • Why excess bone can crowd muscles, nerves, and other soft tissues • Why simply “running less” may not reduce stress enough • What pain, bruising, and swelling can tell you about injury severity • Why measuring improvement matters before you increase activity

The Other Side of Awakening with Allura HalliwellWhat happens after the awakening? In this profound and deeply personal conversation, Girl is joined by Allura Halliwell, consciousness mentor and transformational guide, to explore the extraordinary experience that changed the course of her life.Allura shares her spontaneous Kundalini awakening in 2018 — an experience she describes as consciousness leaving the physical body, merging with an infinite field and encountering a profound experience of wholeness, unconditional love and the void. But the experience itself was only the beginning.Returning to everyday life brought an unexpected period of chaos, relationship breakdown, disconnection from her former identity and years of integrating an experience that had completely altered her understanding of reality.Together, Girl Awakening and Allura explore what it means to move through that threshold — from spiritual experience into embodied transformation.Exploration of the deep human wounds that can sit beneath our search for love and security, the fear of pain, the illusion of separation, energetic sovereignty, co-dependence and the possibility of using our most difficult experiences as portals for deeper connection with ourselves.Allura offers a powerful perspective on healing: rather than trying to cut painful experiences away, can we bring them back into ourselves and make them safe to feel? What happens when we stop searching externally for the love, safety and validation we have been longing for? This is a conversation about awakening, integration, self-honouring and becoming sovereign in your own energy — without pretending that transformation is always comfortable or linear. An expansive, intimate and at times deeply confronting conversation - YES ! - about what it really means to awaken… and then learn how to live from that place. We invite you to listen deeply. Take what resonates. And allow the rest to simply open a question within you.Much Joy & LoveAmanda & Jo xxGirl AwakeningPS this is part 1, be sure to listen in for part 2 to follow.Guest: Allura HalliwellConsciousness Mentor & Transformational GuideWebsite: https://allurahalliwell.com/Allura is also hosting a Consciousness Retreat in November.Link Here: https://terrigal.sovereignstateofbeingretreats.com/Episode on Girl Awakening Youtube: https://youtu.be/WHduMQnj9O4#GirlAwakening #AlluraHalliwell #SpiritualAwakening #Kundalini #Consciousness #AwakeningJourney #Transformation #InnerHealing #Sovereignty #Unworthy #Unloved #Unknown #meditation #spirituality #Spiritualretreat #Source #fractal #relationships #chaos #breakingpoint #lettinggo #frequency #alignment

AI is changing what search means in e-commerce. Shoppers are no longer just typing keywords and scanning static results. Conversational agents are shaping discovery, addressing objections, and guiding purchases like digital salespeople. Brands must look beyond traditional SEO and design for both human shoppers and AI-driven journeys. Jeremy Goldman sits down with Sean Whitehead, VP of Digital Product & Tech at Fracture, and Aniket Deosthali, CEO and Founder of Envive AI, to discuss how brands can bring in-store service online, adapt to the rise of AI search, earn consumer trust, and preserve brand distinctiveness as AI tools become commoditized. INSIDE THE EPISODE: From Keyword Matching to Digital Salesmanship Traditional search assumes shoppers already know what they want. AI can address hesitation and objections directly on the product page before they turn into abandoned carts. The Financial Imperative of AI Search With half of consumers using AI search, and a projected $750B revenue impact by 2028, optimizing for AI engine visibility (AEO/GEO) is non-negotiable. Brands need to focus on durable fundamentals: structured data, strong content, authority, and answering real customer questions. Trust and Security Are the Ultimate Bottlenecks for AI Adoption With nearly 40% of consumers fearing AI scams or data misuse, brands must "treat AI like a new hire"—using strict guardrails and brand-approved data to prevent costly glitches. Brand Differentiation Will Shift to Proprietary Data and Brand Voice As AI tools commoditize, standing out requires training models on your distinct brand voice and unique customer data.

Have you ever felt guilty about taking a day off during stress fracture recovery? For many runners, the hardest part of getting back to running isn't the injury itself—it's resisting the urge to complete every planned workout. In this episode of the Doc On The Run Podcast, Dr. Christopher Segler shares a simple mental strategy that can help runners recover faster by changing the way they think about recovery days. In this episode, you'll learn: • Why runners often feel guilty about taking a recovery day • The biggest mental mistake competitive runners make during stress fracture recovery • How soreness and fatigue can actually become valuable warning signs • Why your coach wants you close to the injury threshold—but never across it • The simple mindset shift that can prevent setbacks • Why "earning" a day off can help you recover faster and race sooner • How to balance fitness gains with protecting a healing stress fracture The goal isn't simply working harder. The goal is getting stronger while protecting your healing bone so you can get back to racing as quickly as possible.
Rudyard Griffiths and Sean Speer examine the tension between climate action and energy development under Prime Minister Mark Carney. They explore how devastating wildfires have reignited climate concerns among Canadians, threatening Carney's coalition as support for the NDP rises. They discuss whether Carney's pivot from climate champion to energy advocate is politically sustainable, and whether Conservatives can remain silent on environmental issues while pursuing electoral success. In the second half of the show, they focus on the “tradwife” phenomenon, its prevalence in conservative circles, and how this traditionalism movement is a response to current economic realities. If you are enjoying the free version of the Hub Roundtable, subscribe to become a Hub Hero or Fellow to access the full version every week: https://thehub.ca/join/The Hub is Canada's fastest growing independent digital news outlet.Subscribe to The Hub's podcast feed to get our best content when you are on the go:https://tinyurl.com/3a7zpd7e (Apple)https://tinyurl.com/y8akmfn7 (Spotify)Follow The Hub on X: https://x.com/thehubcanada?lang=enCREDITS:Alisha Rao - Producer and Editor Rudyard Griffiths and Sean Speer - Hosts Hosted on Acast. Vice President JD Vance said he wants further investigation into certain materials within the newly released Epstein files after encountering emails that he believed raised concerns. While speaking at a public event, Vance referenced a message mentioning “pizza and grape soda,” saying it reminded him of language associated with the “Pizzagate” misdirection. He stated that his reaction was that the individual involved “should absolutely” be looked into and that he would follow up to ensure the matter had been investigated by authorities. At the same time, Vance did not endorse "Pizzagate" itself but used the example to argue that anything potentially suspicious in the Epstein material should be examined thoroughly. The remarks come amid renewed online speculation tying Epstein documents to old conspiracy narratives, despite those theories having been widely discredited by law enforcement and investigators. His comments reflect a broader push among some officials to call for deeper scrutiny of Epstein-related communications, even as critics warn that invoking debunked theories risks fueling misinformation around the case.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:JD Vance reveals plans to investigate major Epstein conspiracy theory after reading 'Pizzagate' emailsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.
In episode 381 of The Physical Performance Show, host Brad Beer — sports and exercise physiotherapist — sits down with Pogo physiotherapist Tim Studley for the first instalment of a two-part mini-series on shin pain and tibial bone stress injuries, following on from their earlier three-part bone stress injury series. This episode is essential listening for runners, coaches, and clinicians alike, unpacking how to tell the difference between medial tibial stress syndrome (MTSS/shin splints) and a true tibial bone stress injury — two conditions that can feel identical but require completely different management. Brad and Tim walk through the physiology of bone loading, the palpation tests that separate a "safe to keep running" diagnosis from one requiring an MRI, and the loading tests used to stress-test the tibia safely in clinic. Show Sponsor: Pillar Performance continues to lead the way in sports nutrition through micro-nutrition innovation, now expanding into the Performance Health range. One of their newest releases, Collagen Repair, was developed with Gelita Laboratories (Germany) using a clinically trialled collagen peptide (Tendofort) to support tendon and ligament health in conditions like hamstring tendinopathy, Achilles tendonitis, shin splints, and patellofemoral pain. Head to pillarperformance.shop (or thefeed.com for North American listeners) and use code PHYSICALPERFORMANCE for 15% off your first purchase. Pogo Physio also offers online Telehealth Consultations for endurance athletes managing bone, tendon, or joint issues — book online at https://pogophysio.com.au. Listen in as we delve into the following: The prevalence of tibial bone stress injuries and why the shin is the most common bone stress site in runners Why bone stress injuries occur: workload errors, loading frequency vs. magnitude, and individualised risk factors The continuum from "happy bone" to stress reaction to frank stress fracture Why pain magnitude doesn't reliably predict injury severity The heterogeneity of bone innervation and why the periosteum is key to understanding pain Differentiating MTSS from tibial bone stress injury — and why the management is entirely different The 10cm palpation rule: a clinical prediction rule for when to suspect bone vs. soft tissue Why the anterior (front) shin is a higher-risk, non-union-prone injury site The loading-test ladder: double leg calf raise → single leg calf raise → single leg hop → side-to-side hop → forward hop The role of muscle-bone synergy: how calf strength and girth influence tibial bone stress risk Recovery timelines by injury grade, and why MRI matters for prognosis and athlete buy-in A real case study: a triathlete's navicular injury, deconditioning, and return to tibial bone stress injuries Quotes "You can go from hero to zero really quickly with bone." "Higher levels of pain don't necessarily mean a worse injury." "Muscle loads bone." When is the single most important time during the healing of a metatarsal fracture? Most runners assume the hardest part is waiting weeks to get back to running. In reality, the most critical period may be the very first week after the fracture occurs. In this episode of the Doc On The Run Podcast, Dr. Christopher Segler explains why the first seven days after a metatarsal fracture lay the biological foundation for healing, and why seemingly small mistakes during that first week can delay your recovery. In this episode, you'll learn: • Why the first week is biologically the most important phase of healing • What happens during the inflammatory phase after a fracture • Why bone stability is essential for successful healing • How movement disrupts the body's repair process • Why even sleeping without your boot may slow healing during the first week • How small movements from exercise can delay recovery • What runners should focus on before worrying about fitness The goal is not simply surviving the first week. The goal is creating the strongest possible foundation for the bone to heal so you can get back to running sooner.

Liam DeBoer describes his Substack blending philosophy, psychology, culture, politics, and history, and argues in “Your Ruling Class Is Not Secular” that modern materialist elites still express religious impulses by mapping “soul,” apocalypse, and salvation narratives onto gender ideology, climate change, and revolutionary politics. He discusses Orwell's 1984 as a psychological study of totalitarianism reshaping perception, and links current activism to young women, noting polling showing young women moving left and widening dating/marriage mismatches. He predicts widening Western factional conflict, references the “fourth turning,” and explains Nietzsche's ressentiment and victimhood. He outlines “daycare governance” in a feminized institutional culture and summarizes “political ponerology” archetypes behind authoritarianism. He details Canada's “Vancouver model” money laundering tied to triads, casinos, and politics, and discusses censorship, platform throttling, and Zuckerberg's motives.00:00 Meet Liam DeBoer00:33 Ruling Class Religion03:34 Climate as Cult04:40 Orwell and Totalitarianism07:53 Politics and Dating Divide11:21 Fracture and Future Conflict14:46 Fourth Turning Cycles17:00 Nietzsche Ressentiment23:32 Victimhood and Agency26:24 South Korea 4B Fallout28:01 Daycare Governance Model35:06 Equality Clips Greatness37:55 Political Ponerology Types42:46 Canada Money Laundering52:06 Censorship and Free Speech55:30 Zuckerberg Rebrand57:22 Closing and Linkshttps://liamoutloud.substack.com/https://x.com/liam_out_loudhttps://www.youtube.com/@liam-out-loud=========Slides, summaries, references, and transcripts of my podcasts: https://tomn.substack.com/p/podcast-summariesMy Linktree: https://linktr.ee/tomanelson1
If your stress fracture seems to be healing, should you keep repeating the exact same run? It sounds safe… But it may actually slow your progress. In this episode of the Doc On The Run Podcast, Dr. Christopher Segler explains why repeating identical runs can prevent a healing stress fracture from adapting and getting stronger. Using the example of a runner returning from a tibial stress fracture with a race only three and a half months away, Dr. Segler explains why variability—not repetition—is the key to safely rebuilding bone strength. In this episode, you'll learn: • Why repeating the exact same run can stall bone remodeling • Why soreness beginning around mile two matters • How cumulative fatigue changes the stress on a healing bone • Why bone adapts to progressive, varied loading—not identical loading • Different ways to vary your running without increasing injury risk • How to build fitness while reducing the chance of another setback The goal is not simply proving you can repeat the same run. The goal is helping the bone become stronger so you can safely return to racing.

Send us Fan MailThis sermon is a practical Q&A session focused on applying theological principles to real-life relational conflicts. We address three key spiritual patterns: Jezebel (unauthorized power), Absalom (weaponizing wounds to build alliances), and Leviathan (subtly maligning character to create distrust). Real questions submitted by congregation members are answered with both pastoral wisdom and practical guidance. The discussion covers a wide range of relational challenges.Series wrap-up for The FractureRecorded live in New Philadelphia, Ohio. Are you testing your stress fracture every day just to see if it's getting better? That simple habit may actually be slowing your recovery. In this episode of the Doc On The Run Podcast, Dr. Christopher Segler explains why repeatedly testing a stress fracture—especially by intentionally reproducing pain—can keep you above your healing threshold and delay your return to running. In this episode you'll learn: • Why runners naturally want to "check" their injury • How repeated testing can increase stress on a healing metatarsal • Why pain-testing is different from progress tracking • How to identify useful recovery milestones without slowing healing • The concept of your healing threshold—and why it matters • A smarter way to monitor recovery while preserving your fitness
Send us Fan MailF. Scott Fitzgerald's Tender Is the Night (1934) has always sparked great debate about whether it is a noble botch or a modernist classic because its non-chronological form, confounding character motivation, and intrusive narrative voice all seem so compellingly imperfect. In 1951 the literary critic Malcolm Cowley even published a "corrected" edition in which he reordered the novel so it unfolded in sequence---to no avail in critical estimantion. In this story of the talented psychologist Dr Dick Diver and his traumatized wife Nicole we find modernism writ large with events that symbolize the dissipation and diminution of talent and "repose," despite the Divers' surface glamour that makes Americans abroad flock to them in fashionable seasons. And can contemporary readers empathize with the fatal flaw of Dick, whose need for female approval leads him to pursue an adulterous flirtation with ingenue actress Rosemary Hoyt? Ultimately, Tender is a book about falling apart and recognizing that the pieces won't go back together again, not even if you're a rich expatriate living on the French Riviera in the mid-1920s.
