Then Kristi Noem drops major news: DHS has identified a prolific leaker. Pags also breaks down bad news out of California as the Supreme Court of the United States allows a new pro-Dem voting map, and explains why a big Democratic midterm win could mean nothing but impeachment chaos. Can elections be nationalized? Pags tackles the viral claims and what's actually possible. Finally, James Lankford joins Pags to warn about another shutdown looming in under two weeks, why Democrats keep targeting ICE even though funding is already covered, and how shutdown threats are being used as leverage. When a hiker goes missing, the public often pictures helicopters and grid searches. Former National Park Service protection ranger and author Andrea Lankford says the reality is more complicated and more human: one-person patrols hours from backup, perishable rope and medical skills, families living in limbo, and a growing ecosystem of online sleuths and volunteer searchers who sometimes find what agencies miss. In this episode of Policing Matters, host Jim Dudley speaks with Lankford about what “the thin green line” looks like in practice and what her investigation into three Pacific Crest Trail disappearances taught her about technology, teamwork and trust. About our sponsor This episode of the Policing Matters podcast is brought to you by LVT, the mobile surveillance solution trusted by public-sector leaders nationwide. LVT's solar-powered mobile surveillance units put eyes and AI analytics where fixed cameras can't — parking lots, remote borders, disaster zones, and large events. 70 Miles for a Mentor? Mary walked 70 miles just to connect with Elizabeth. Stop waiting for affirmation—find the woman who will empower the miracle you're carrying. This is how women raise up women. —Elaine LankfordSHOW NOTES EPISODES HIGHLIGHTS The Power of Divine Interruption: God will intentionally disrupt a comfortable, successful life (e.g., job loss, family illness) to save you and redirect your focus when your centeredness on Christ has shifted. Flipping the Hurt: To overcome hurt, one must dig deep into why the hurt occurred (the "turt turt"). When you concentrate on the path God has set you on, the bitterness of past rejection lessens. Daughtership is Divine Authority: The most empowering truth is understanding the Sonship/Daughtership mandate: You are the head and not the tail, above and not beneath. This instant shift in focus moves women from feeling unqualified to operating in divine authority. The Elizabeth and Mary Model: This biblical narrative illustrates the power of female connection. Mary was prophesied over, empowered, and encouraged by Elizabeth, who helped her prepare for the miracle inside her. This is the model for women pulling up women and validating the God-sized dream in each other's "womb." "When you can take that pain and flip it on its head and use it for the greater good, that's when we find our purpose. Nothing is ever wasted." —Elaine Lankford
As Open Season approaches, one Republican is raising concerns about funding for the Federal Employees Health Benefits program. Oklahoma Senator James Lankford is questioning the Office of Personnel Management on how it plans to avoid exhausting the FEHB's trust fund. He says it's a concern, since there aren't any incoming contributions to the trust fund under the government shutdown. In response to Lankford's questions, OPM said that if needed, it would be able to let health carriers request additional funding from contingency reserves. But for the time being, OPM says all FEHB plans have sufficient funds to pay claims.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Chuck Todd breaks down the ongoing government shutdown and the deep dysfunction gripping Washington. With the shutdown dragging into late October, Trump is reportedly tapping private donors to pay the military, while Speaker Mike Johnson keeps the House out of session — a move Chuck calls a major political blunder. As Trump consolidates control over both the presidency and Congress, Republicans appear more focused on shielding him than exercising oversight. Meanwhile, the Oversight Committee under James Comer has devolved into partisan theater, investigating the Bidens while ignoring blatant corruption in Trump’s orbit. Chuck argues that without real congressional checks, America risks drifting toward the kind of pre-revolutionary rot the Founders warned about — where power, privilege, and impunity rule unchecked. Then, filmmaker Raoul Peck joins Chuck to discuss his powerful new documentary Orwell: 2+2=5 — an exploration of truth, propaganda, and power in the age of Trump. Peck, whose work often examines systems of control and colonialism, draws from Orwell’s life and letters to reveal how 1984 was never just a warning about the future — it was a reflection of the present. He and Chuck unpack how doublespeak, “alternative facts,” and the rewriting of history have crept into modern democracies, from the U.S. to Russia, and what Orwell’s insights reveal about the fragility of truth today. Peck also reflects on his own Haitian roots and how the legacy of colonialism still shapes global politics, from America’s interference in Haiti to its uneasy role as an arbiter of democracy abroad. The conversation turns to the media’s complicity in enabling authoritarian narratives, the dangers of AI-driven misinformation, and why reclaiming truth — and teaching future generations to defend it — may be the defining struggle of our time. Finally, he hops in the ToddCast Time Machine to revisit the publication of the Federalist Papers and why their lessons are extremely pertinent in the Trump era, answers questions in the “Ask Chuck” segment and gives his college football recap.
