On February 8, 1983, a plumber was called to an apartment complex at 23 Cranley Gardens due to complaints from the tenants about blocked drains and bad odors. When the plumber lifted the drain cover and peered inside, he saw what looked to be a flesh-like substance and small bone fragments. Between 1981 and 1982, four women were brutally attacked, beaten over the head and stabbed with an ice pick or a screwdriver. Two of the women would survive their attacks, but unfortunately, the other two would not. While the methods used in the attacks on these women were similar in and of themselves, there was also another eerie characteristic that they shared - after each attack, a man - speaking in a high-pitched, weepy voice - made a call to the police department confessing his crimes. In this episode, we discuss the crimes of the Weepy Voiced Killer, the phone calls he made, and the actions that finally got him caught.Sources:https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Michael_Stephanihttps://www.kttc.com/2021/11/08/notorious-weepy-voiced-killer/?outputType=amphttps://the-line-up.com/weepy-voiced-killer-paul-michael-stephani?amp=1https://thesirenlppacs.com/2461/crime-corner/the-strange-case-of-the-weepy-voiced-killer/https://youtu.be/G9tZewM5LlEMark of a Killer - Season 2, Episode 1 - “Killer Caller”Intro & Outro Music:Come Play with Me Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/Follow us on Instagram @TSRHPodcast

On April 22, 1973, two men entered the Hi Fi home audio store in Ogden, Utah with the intent of robbing it and killing anyone that they encountered alive. They took five people hostage in the basement of the store, where they brutally tortured them, shot them all, and left them all for dead. Between 1971 and 1973, three young girls were raped and murdered after being abducted in Rochester, New York. These tragic crimes were connected not only by the similar methods in which they were committed, but also by the strange coincidence that all three victims had first names that started with the same letter as their last name: Carmen Colon, Wanda Walkowicz, and Michelle Maenza. On September 19, 1992, two bodies were discovered in the Belanglo State Forest in New South Wales, Australia. They were the remains of two young backpackers, Joanna Walters and Caroline Clarke from Britain, who had gone missing just a few months prior. After the discovery of Joanne and Caroline, more and more bodies would be found, until police had identified a total of 7 victims who had all been brutally butchered, their remains disposed of under piles of sticks and leaves. Police launched a massive investigation into finding the person behind these horrific crimes, and their efforts would lead them to one Ivan Milat, a career criminal with a propensity for violence and a disturbing obsession with guns and knives.SOURCEShttps://amp.theguardian.com/australia-news/2019/oct/27/ivan-milat-chilling-serial-murders-haunt-australia-after-deathhttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backpacker_murdershttps://allthatsinteresting.com/ivan-milathttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_MilatSins of the brother: The definitive story of Ivan Milat and the backpacker murders by Mark Whittaker (1998)Intro and Outro Music:Come Play with Me Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

In May of 1993, the Indianapolis Police Department opened up an investigation into the disappearances of numerous men having gone missing on their way to or from gay bars in downtown Indianapolis. At the same time, private investigator Virgil Vandagriff was leading his own investigation into the missing men. These investigations brought up Herbert Baumeister–a wealthy businessman beloved by his community–as the prime suspect. Furthermore, Baumeister would also be suspected of committing a string of murders along Interstate 70, running through Ohio and Indiana, credited to a serial killer that the police dubbed "The I-70 Strangler."Sources for this episode:https://inmagazine.ca/2021/03/queer-crime-the-double-life-of-herb-baumeister/https://allthatsinteresting.com/herb-baumeisterhttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herb_Baumeisterhttps://www.thoughtco.com/herbert-richard-baumeister-973121https://the-line-up.com/serial-killer-herb-baumeister?amp=1https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/I-70_StranglerIntro & Outro Music:Come Play with Me Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
For as long as he could remember, Issei Sagawa had a hunger for human flesh. On June 13th, 1981, Sagawa realized a fantasy 32 years in the making when he shot and killed his close friend, Renee Hartevelt, a 26 year old Dutch woman attending the same university as Sagawa in Paris, France.Sagawa spent the next two days indulging in acts of necrophilia with Renee's corpse, while at the same time butchering pieces of her flesh for consumption. He was finally arrested for Renee's murder four days after a failed attempt to dump her remains in a public park. On September 29, 1978, 15 year old Mary Vincent was picked up by 50 year old Lawrence Singleton as she was hitchhiking her way from Berkely, CA to Corona, CA. Not long after picking her up, Singleton pulled over onto the side of a deserted road where he proceeded to brutally beat and rape Mary. After holding her captive for an entire night, Singleton hacked off both of Mary's arms, threw her down a 30 foot embankment, and left her for dead. Mary, however, had a strong will to live, and refused to let Singleton get away with what he had done to her. In an incredible tale of survival, Mary was able to be rescued and receive treatment for her injuries, after which she testified against her attacker to help put him in prison.
