In Washington, lawmakers say they have the votes to reopen the government after the shutdown standoff. Meanwhile, Starbucks’ new “Bearista” cups are causing a full-on merch frenzy. Geoffrey and Molly Wansell confront Britain's most chilling killer, Robert Maudsley, the man the tabloids dubbed Hannibal the Cannibal. Locked away in a glass cell beneath Wakefield Prison, Maudsley has spent decades in near-total isolation after a string of murders so brutal they shocked even hardened detectives. But who is the man behind the monster? With Geoffrey's trademark precision and Molly's probing curiosity, Blood Ties digs into Maudsley's tragic childhood, his descent into violence, and the media myth that turned him into a British bogeyman. Was he born evil or made by a system that failed him? This is Blood Ties at its most provocative: a gripping, fearless look at one of Britain's darkest souls and the uncomfortable truths that lie behind the nickname Hannibal the Cannibal.CREDITS: Presenters: Geoffrey and Molly WansellProducer: Peter Shevlin https://pod60.com/Artwork: George LeighMusic: Dan WansellCONTACT: Twitter: @BloodTies_PodInstagram:@bloodtiespodcastEmail: bloodties.podcast@gmail.com YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@bloodtiespodcastSupport: patreon.com/bloodtiespodcastPlease complete our survey if you have time: http://bit.ly/bloodtiespodcast-survey Hosted on Acast. It was a quiet evening in rural Thailand in 1958. A father is out looking for his son who had yet to return home, when he spots a faint orange glow in the distance. As he approaches, he sees the local vegetable vendor standing beside a small pile of burning leaves; and beneath them, something pale. It's a leg. A child's leg. His son's leg. Part 1 - We explore the background of the man who would come to be known as the child cannibal, Si Quey, as well as the horrific events of that evening in 1958. Part 2 - We follow the aftermath of the conviction and execution of Si Quey, uncovering the controversies and complications embedded in this case. Burton tried to speak, to beg for mercy, but his throat had clamped shut, parched and brittle as ancient parchment left too long in the sun. His voice only clawed its way back in a ragged, desperate croak the instant Boone pressed the knife down against the flesh of his right leg, just above the knee, and the first thin, crimson line of blood welled up, hot and sticky, tracing a lazy rivulet down the pale skin. Boone used that old Bowie for everything—carving kindling, gutting game, scraping hides—and its edge had gone so dull from endless abuse that it resembled a rusted sawblade more than a blade. He had to lean in with his full, heavy weight, all two hundred pounds of muscle and grit, to force the tip through the tough outer layer of Burton's skin, the metal grinding audibly against the resistance like a dull file on bone.Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theserialkillerpodcastWebsite: https://www.theserialkillerpodcast.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/theskpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/serialkillerpodX: https://x.com/serialkillerpodSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-serial-killer-podcast. This week, we venture deep into the mist-shrouded Pacific Northwest to unearth one of the region's most haunting legends in Kwakwaka'wakw folklore — the story of Baxbakwalanuksiwe', the Man-Eater at the North End of the World.Once banned by colonial authorities and nearly lost to time, the Hamat'sa, or “Cannibal Dance,” is a ceremonial initiation that confronts humanity's darkest impulses and the mythic hunger embodied by Baxbakwalanuksiwe'. Covered in gaping mouths and crying out “hap, hap, hap” — “eat, eat, eat” — this monstrous figure stalked not just the imagination of his people, but the very limits of what it means to be human.Baxbakwalanuksiwe' stands as both a monster and a mirror — a figure embodying survival, hunger, and the uneasy boundary between the spiritual and the human. Join us as we explore how this story survived suppression, what it reveals about cultural resilience, why it remains so powerful today, and what the “Ever-More-Perfect-Manifestation-of-the-Essence-of-Humanity” might truly mean.Visit our website! With the 2025 road racing season now firmly in the rear view mirror, join Daniel Friebe and Lionel Birnie for a freewheeling ramble through some of the big stories that have hit the headlines in the past couple of weeks. We start by discussing the fragile nature of survival at World Tour level with the news that the Australian team Jayco-Alula came within days of possibly folding, and the delays to confirmation that two Belgian teams, Lotto and Intermarché, intend to become one. Where does that leave the riders, especially Intermarché's biggest star Biniam Girmay? Then we indulge in a bit of off-season speculation and wonder what Tadej Pogačar's 2026 season might look like, particularly with a number of race organisers making changes seemingly to entice the SlovAlien to ride. The Vuelta a España starting in his adopted home town of Monaco is not a particularly subtle overture and it seem an appealing prospect but, as we discuss, the picture is more complicated than that. The Cycling Podcast returns on Halloween for an end-of-season debrief and audience with the rider formerly known by his team-mates as ‘The Ghost', Larry Wabasse - for reasons the Tudor Pro Cycling ace will explain. After a quick dip into the week's headlines, including news of Oier Lazkano's provisional suspension for biological passport anomalies, we open our mailbag and invite Larry to respond to your questions. HAPPY HALLOWEEN ALL OF YOU HUNGRY WITCHES! Thank you for tuning in to this year's Big Fat Feminist Halloween Special! If you're new here, every Halloween I choose an aspect of the fantastical, fictional, Halloween witch and take a closer look at where it came from and what it means to very real witches and magical people today. This year we're going full fairytale by talking about the kind of witch that might live in a house nestled in some deep, dark wild place, made entirely of… candy? That's right, settle in for nearly 2 hours of Cannibal witches, black widows, folkloric monsters, ritual madness, mythological baddies, and the deep and painful hunger that lives inside us all. These two episodes are not safe to share with young kids, sorry y'all, but fellow moms who are perhaps a bit worn out from this holiday will find a lot to love in this two part Halloween episode. But a word of warning! This episode features conversations about death, meat, animal mating habits, racism and colonization as well as hunger, eating, dieting, fatphobia and health. A short warning will come on before this last section in case listening will put you at risk. Stay safe, friends. I did a ton of research for this episode and I will be listing the sources on my website, but I want to mention one in particular. I was toying with the idea of talking about witches eating babies for this episode, but wasn't sure if there was enough material there. Then I read a post by The Pale Horse about cannibal women in horror movies and the symbolism there and that really made everything click into place for me, so I highly recommend you read it and take some time … to digest it. Sometimes truth is far scarier than fiction. In this episode, we uncover the real killers whose crimes inspired some of the most terrifying horror films ever made, proving that true fear often begins long before the opening credits. In Gainesville, Florida, Danny Rolling, the “Gainesville Ripper,” murdered five college students in 1990, leaving behind a trail of brutality and fear. His crimes became the blueprint for a new era of slasher films.Across the Atlantic, Robert Maudsley, dubbed “Hannibal the Cannibal,” killed multiple inmates and was confined to an underground glass cell in the UK. His chilling calm and precise confessions blurred the line between reality and horror fiction. These stories show how real-life crimes have shaped our darkest nightmares. But it raises one haunting question: are we honoring the victims, or turning their killers into legends?Follow True Crime Recaps for more stories where real life is stranger—and more terrifying—than anything Hollywood could imagine.
It was a simple premise… What if WE wrote our own stories? I mean, we talk so much shit all the time. What if we put our collective money where our proverbial mouthes are? So…We did that - and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. I want to thank all the guests on today's episodes for being some of the reasons that I keep doing this. They always go together!
A few of the abandoned men, their wills broken, staggered blindly after Boone and Burton once they finally realized the terrible deception. But in tragically little time, they were completely snow-blind and hopelessly lost, staggering aimlessly away from the faint path and each other as the relentless, creeping tendrils of hypothermia finally took hold of their core. Some paltry articles of their clothing would eventually be found near the trail once a spring thaw swept through the valley, but of their frozen, anonymous bodies, there was never any trace. Whether they were claimed by the brutal, indifferent cold, by a silent return of the vengeful Diggers, or by some starved, scavenging beast of the high mountains will forever remain a chilling mystery. Even their names have been tragically lost to the ravages of time, with only the vaguest, most unflattering descriptions of them surviving in the old, faded complaints filed by the victims who once sought their deaths.Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theserialkillerpodcastWebsite: https://www.theserialkillerpodcast.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/theskpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/serialkillerpodX: https://x.com/serialkillerpodSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-serial-killer-podcast. In the misty wilds of 16th-century Scotland, hundreds vanished without a trace—until body parts began washing ashore, gnawed clean and hacked like butchered meat. What followed was the unmasking of the most terrifying legend in British history: Sawney Bean and his inbred clan of cannibals, who may have feasted on more than 1,000 souls before vanishing into myth. In this harrowing members-only episode, we dive deep into one woman's story of witchcraft, Santeria, generational curses, and deliverance. What happens when your grandmother is secretly a witch practicing cannibalistic rituals? Rebeca discovered the answer through decades of supernatural torment, mysterious entities at her door, and a family curse that manifested in her own children. This incredible testimony explores how generational curses operate, how the power of Christ breaks even the darkest spiritual chains, and reveals a powerful account of spiritual warfare, deliverance, and the reality of bloodline breakers. From keys without locks to blood-vomiting deliverance, Rebecca's story will challenge everything you thought you knew about generational spiritual warfare. Learn more about your ad choices. When the sun finally rose, he methodically availed himself of the dead's belongings, precisely as he always did, but for the first time, he could not bring himself to look directly at the body. Usually, he felt absolutely no sting of remorse or burning shame—he had successfully convinced himself that he was entirely immune to such weak human frailties—but now, a strange, heavy guilt sat like a cold stone deep in his gut. He had obscenely gorged himself in a terrifying, unholy communion that had lasted throughout the entire night, returning over and over to tear more flesh from the cooling corpse and fully sate his insatiable hunger. He had eaten until he was bloated, profoundly sickened, and deeply ashamed.Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theserialkillerpodcastWebsite: https://www.theserialkillerpodcast.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/theskpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/serialkillerpodX: https://x.com/serialkillerpodSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-serial-killer-podcast. This week Blake Smith and Karen Stollznow are joined by clinical psychologist Dr. Brian A. Sharpless, author of Monsters on the Couch, to discuss cannibalism—what it is, why humans have done it, and how the taboo shows up in archaeology, medicine, psychology, and horror cinema. They cover definitions (endocannibalism vs. survival cannibalism), prion diseases such as Kuru, criminal and paraphilic cases, and pop-culture touchpoints from Ravenous to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, plus legend-tripping at Lovelock Cave and the “giants” folklore around the Mound Builder myth.Don't forget to grab Karen's latest: Bitch: The Journey of a Word

Rumors claimed that a farmer named Peter Stumpp had transformed into a bloodthirsty werewolf who prowled the woods with his inhuman strength, leaving villagers in fear for their lives for decades. In December 1589, Peter was finally captured, tortured, and forced to confess to horrific crimes that blended the supernatural with the utterly grotesque. In this episode, we explore lycanthropy, Peter's chilling confessions, his barbaric trial, and the eerie folklore that has haunted this small German village for centuries. Aaaaaaooooo!!!

The autumn season rolled on with the European road race championships at the weekend - and report back from a men's road race dominated in familiar fashion by Tadej Pogačar, but also lit up by a French teenager riding and starring on home roads, Paul Seixas. Daniel Friebe and Lionel Birnie are joined by the voice of Radio Tour, Seb Piquet, to analyse Pog's latest masterclass and what's next for Seixas. Before all of that, we also catch up on other news from the last week in pro cycling, including Cian Uijtdebroeks' surprise transfer to Movistar, Alexander Kristoff's unhappy farewell and the likely demise of the Arkéa team. The inaugural UCI road World Championships on the continent of Africa took place in Rwanda last week. Dominated - again - by Tadej Pogačar, the men's road race was widely dubbed ‘the hardest edition ever', but was it really? Team USA's Larry Warbasse joins Daniel Friebe and Lionel Birnie to give his verdict and general impressions from Kigali. We also solve the mystery of Nauru's first ever World Championship entrant - who didn't make it to the start-line. In addition, we pay tribute to two influential figures in the cycling media who have passed away in recent days, and look forward to the European Championship road race at the weekend. In 1933, Stalin's Soviet Union rounded up thousands of men, women, and children—many guilty of nothing at all—and dumped them on a tiny Siberian island with nothing but sacks of raw flour. Within weeks, starvation, violence, and cannibalism tore through the camp. This forgotten atrocity became known as Cannibal Island. Tonight, we're dragging it out of the shadows.
She fought him off when she could, her arms straining against his weight, her breath hitching as she prayed for him to collapse into a drunken stupor. On good nights, he'd pass out mid-act, his body slumping onto her like a felled oak, his breath hot and sour against her neck. She would shove him aside, her muscles trembling, and crawl to the edge of the bed, curling into herself to escape the memory of his touch. On bad nights, she endured the full brutality of his lust, his fingers digging into her flesh, leaving crescent-shaped bruises that bloomed like dark flowers across her arms and thighs.Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theserialkillerpodcastWebsite: https://www.theserialkillerpodcast.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/theskpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/serialkillerpodX: https://x.com/serialkillerpodSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-serial-killer-podcast. The inaugural UCI road World Championships on the continent of Africa take place in Rwanda this week. The first few days of racing threw up one major surprise, the next few could yield more - and Daniel Friebe, Lionel Birnie & Brian Nygaard are on review & preview duty here. Remco Evenepoel‘s trouncing of Tadej Pogačar in the men‘s TT last Sunday confounded some tipsters but not the form book in that discipline. It‘ll be Pogačar, not Remco, defending his world title on Sunday - but did the former‘s performance on Sunday suggest his road race crown is there for the taking? We discuss this, hear from one Slovenian on the ground in Kigali and ponder the curious, in fact downright mysterious case of Nauru‘s single entrant on the provisional startlist. September 24th: Dmitry and Natalia Baksheev Arrested (2017) Sometimes, rumors are nothing more than that. But, what happens when the rumors of something nefarious seem so overwhelming it's hard to pull apart fact from fiction? And what happens when the rumors make you believe a case isn't fully solved? On September 24th 2017 a couple in the center of a swirl of rumors were arrested. A case that, for many, still feels unsolved. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dmitry_and_Natalia_Baksheevy, https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4550298/inside-the-russian-cannibal-familys-house-of-horrors-where-they-killed-and-ate-30-people-lured-from-dating-sites/, https://medium.com/lessons-from-history/this-couple-confessed-to-killing-and-eating-30-humans-5a742cdc2fc0, https://genwhypod.com/blogs/the-generation-why-podcast-blog/russian-cannibal-couple, https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/notorious-devil-cannibal-dies-jail-21519380, https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4933688/Victim-cannibal-couple-murdered-killing-crypt.html Learn more about your ad choices. Listen up class! The Cycling Podcast Féminin has returned after our post Tour de France Femmes summer break and we have that back-to-school feeling. Rose Manley, Denny Gray and Rebecca Charlton tackle some enticing subjects after a number of contentious topics have arisen over recent weeks. We discuss weight loss in cycling, the disqualification of five teams at the Tour de Romandie, Lorena Wiebes' continued domination and we look ahead to the World Championships in Rwanda. We broach the furore surrounding Pauline Ferrand Prevot's four kilogram weight loss in preparation for her victorious Tour de France Femmes campaign and delve further into the conversations around health, weight and disordered eating that have been brought up in the weeks since. In technology (or as Denny says, should it be politics?) we talk about the disqualification of five major teams at the Tour de Romandie after refusing to pick a rider to trial the UCI's new GPS tracking system. The teams – Visma Lease-a-Bike, Canyon SRAM, EF Education Oatly, Picnic Post NL and Lidl Trek – wanted the UCI to choose the riders, citing that mounting the 60 gram tracker would put that rider at a disadvantage. The UCI refused and disqualified the teams before the start of the race. The fall out has raised a number of questions over safety, stakeholder rights, the commercialisation of cycling and data usage and ownership, all of which we go into here. In geography, we cast our eyes over the upcoming World Championships route in Rwanda, centred around the capital city of Kigali. The race is notable not just for being the first time that the World Championships have been held in Africa but also for promising some dramatic racing on a climb-packed course. Also on the agenda: the debating club champion debates with herself and the odd things Denny used to do at the back of the bus with a protractor… or should that be a pair of compasses… OUR SPONSORS, LLOYDS The Cycling Podcast is proudly supported by Lloyds. He'd deliberately pick fights with men leaving the tavern, a predator stalking his prey. Experience had honed his dangerous edge; he was now a skilled brawler, a calculated bully, and stronger than any man had a right to be. The young women of the town, caught in the romantic fantasy of taming a wild man, were drawn to him. But at home, the attention he received was far less flattering. His father refused to speak to him, fearing his own rage, and his mother wept to see the man her son had become.Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theserialkillerpodcastWebsite: https://www.theserialkillerpodcast.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/theskpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/serialkillerpodX: https://x.com/serialkillerpodSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-serial-killer-podcast. In 1933, Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin had his secret police goons round up hundreds of thousands of former farmers and he sent them into Siberia to create labor camps where they would be forced to work. Many would die along the way, including the over 6,000 unfortunate enough to end up on Nazino Island, where innocent people were dumped with no food other than raw flour, no clean water, no shelter, no medicine, and no protection from each other. Starvation and desperation quickly led to cannibalism, mutilation, and death. For Merch and everything else Bad Magic related, head to: https://www.badmagicproductions.com
