Tom is 74 today, which normally would call for cake. Alas, the quest for pound droppage takes priority. But that's okay. You don't need cake to enjoy your birthday. Movies about evil extradimensional entities and tentacle-faced monsters who want to kill you are just as enjoyable. Depending on who you are, of course. On the show:The familyKristyn BurttTim LammersTopics covered:Tom's birthdayFavorite birthday cakeAIPredator: BadlandsIT: Welcome to DerrySee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The gang's all here, and this week they cover IT: Welcome to Derry, Nobody Wants This Season 2, A return to A House of Dynamite, Regretting You, and The Perfect Neighbor. We open the show jumping right into the hottest new series, IT: Welcome to Derry. Kevin and Andrew have both watched the first episode, and Kevin's seen the second. Both guys have enjoyed the show so far, and Kevin keeps the second episode talk pretty spoiler-free. But the show itself is BRUTAL. It is like Stranger Things dialed up to (pun intended) Eleven. If horror is your thing, this is an absolute must-watch. Taking a break from the absolute massacre that is the opening of IT, Lauren talks about the latest season of Nobody Wants This on Netflix. It stars Adam Brody and Kristen Bell as an on-again, off-again couple dealing with the strains of a potential interfaith relationship. That makes it sound very dramatic, but it really is a lot of fun. The leads are great, but a lot of credit goes to the supporting cast, too. It's a well-rounded show that does risk getting tropey if they don't get creative with the 3rd season. That being said, this one (and the first one) is worth a watch. After some talk about things happy and fun, Andrew takes us back to last week's episode for a minute to talk about A House of Dynamite. His timeline was hit by several people who absolutely hated the ending, so the guys had to clear the air as to what this film was truly about. Remember, it's not about the destination, it's about the journey. And now that it's been a week, the guys can be a little more spoilery. So if you haven't watched it yet, and you should, maybe pause the show, watch it, then come back. Next up, Lauren talks about the new film, Regretting You. It stars Mason Thames, McKenna Grace, Allison Williams, and Dave Franco. It's not an entirely unformulaic romance film, but it does have its share of little twists and turns that keep it interesting. It may not blow you away, but if it's your type of film, you're likely to really enjoy it. Kevin closes out the show, reluctantly, by quickly discussing the new Netflix documentary, The Perfect Neighbor. It's an interesting film, as all the footage is either from interrogation rooms or, more often, body cam footage. It's the tragic story of a racially charged shooting in Florida and how it ultimately ties into the Stand Your Ground laws. It's fascinating and heartbreaking, but an interesting story worth watching. Facebook: @apncpodcast Twitter: @APNCPodcast Instagram: AllPopNoCulture

Two recent campaigns that prove clever beats polished every time. This week on Got Marketing?, Mia is back with fan-favourite guest and CDM Community Manager, Lillie Brown, to unpack two standout campaigns. From a heritage gardening brand to a challenger pet food company, these campaigns couldn't be more different but both deliver lessons in brand storytelling and cultural connection. First up, Seasol's “Dirty Old Secrets”, a witty, intergenerational campaign that turns a humble seaweed tonic into a cultural moment. With eccentric Aussie gardeners and cheeky storytelling, it proves even dirt can sparkle with the right creative lens. Then, Lyka's “The Brutal Pickup,” a hilarious Halloween-timed horror spoof about dog owners' worst nightmare: the sloppy poo pickup. It's bold, gross, and brilliantly clever, turning gut health into must-watch marketing. The episode also touches on ethical marketing and the subtle but important issue of the male gaze in advertising; how even great campaigns can unintentionally reinforce outdated narratives, and why it's on us as marketers to do better. What you'll take away from in this episode: ✨ How Seasol's Dirty Old Secrets built an enduring brand platform through humour and heritage ✨ The power of intergenerational storytelling in modern campaigns ✨ Why Lyka's disruptive “Brutal Pickup” works, and how timing amplified its success ✨ When (and how) to use grossness, taboo, or discomfort in marketing without crossing the line ✨ The ethical responsibility of marketers to challenge the male gaze and go deeper in creative critique ✨ Why challenger brands must be loud, and legacy brands must defend their market leadership ✨ What Airbnb got wrong (and how not to lose your brand edge to performance marketing) ✨ How brand campaigns build long-term equity beyond the conversion cycle Campaigns and episode mentions: Seasol: https://www.seasol.com.au/dirty-old-secrets/ Lyka: https://lyka.com.au/ Airbnb: https://www.thedrum.com/news/airbnb-cmo-ditching-performance-marketing-big-bold-brand-campaigns Connect with Lillie: Website: https://www.lilliebrown.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sexwithlillie/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lillie-brown/ Connect with Mia: Connect with Mia on LinkedIn Follow got marketing? on Instagram Get the backstage pass to Got Marketing? on Substack. Welcome to the perfect storm of socialist incompetence meets basic economics! Portland's city council just got a harsh lesson when their iconic Big Pink building sold for $45 million – down from $373 million in 2015. That's a 88% discount that would make Black Friday shoppers weep with envy.We break down how Portland's "woke" leadership created a downtown wasteland where businesses board up windows faster than they can say "defund the police," and how one fire sale just triggered a tax revenue avalanche that's about to crush their bloated city budget. From Antifa street theater to empty storefronts, we explore why nobody wants to touch Portland commercial real estate with a 10-foot pole.Is anyone surprised that a city prioritizing virtue signaling over basic safety can't keep businesses downtown? What happens when your tax base collapses because you've turned your city into a case study of how NOT to govern? The wheels are coming off, and the socialist council members are scrambling to understand why businesses don't want to operate in their urban paradise.
Trump's efforts to use the Shutdown to put a blindfold around the Fed to deny it key economic data so it would fly blind during today's Interest Rate setting meeting, backfired, as the Fed Chair said that when in a “fog” you “slow down” indicating that Trump screwed up his efforts to get a second rate cut next month by keeping the Government shut down. Michael Popok puts on his Wall Street goggles to take a look at today's Federal Open Markets Committee Meeting results and what it says about Trump's failed economy and the suffering of Americans. The economic news is getting worse. Major companies are announcing mass layoffs, and it's dominating the headlines, including in the Rust Belt. Food stamps are about to expire for millions. And new info shows how Obamacare premiums will soar due to lapsing subsidies. That backdrop of bad news makes President Trump's tearing down of White House structures to build a gilded ballroom even more damaging. Indeed, new polling shows that the ballroom fiasco is now stirring a surprising public backlash. On top of that, commentators are noticing the disconnect between the ballroom optics and the darkening economic situation for millions, a dynamic that will only worsen. We talked to Elizabeth Pancotti, who tracks economic sentiment as managing director of the Groundwork Collaborative. We discuss what the economic news means, why the media should level with voters about Trump's out-of-touch displays, and how Democrats in key races are seizing the economic high ground. Life is tender and messy and miraculous all at once. In this solo episode, Emily invites you into a reflection on the beautiful, brutal art of holding it all—the grief and the gratitude, the darkness and the light, the exhaustion and the quiet magic of simply being alive.Fresh off a transformative retreat and deep in the waves of pregnancy, she opens up about what it means to sit in discomfort without needing to fix it, to honor both the shadows and the blessings, and to find holiness in the wholeness of being human. This is an episode about slowing down enough to feel it all—to remember that life itself is the occasion, not something to earn once everything feels perfect.Emily explores the tension between what's hard and what's holy, sharing personal stories of grief, rage, beauty, and creativity. She reflects on the conditioning that teaches women to smile through pain, the ways we hide behind optimism, and the freedom that comes when we finally allow ourselves to be seen in every shade of our truth. This conversation is an offering—a reminder that your presence, your essence, and your being are enough. You don't have to rush through this season or mask the hard parts. You get to hold the darkness, create the magic, and call it all sacred. In this episode, I explore:The beautiful and brutal truth of being fully alive — learning to hold both joy and grief, light and shadow, beauty and chaos as sacred parts of the human experienceThe power of sitting in discomfort without bypassing it, fixing it, or rushing it, and how this practice deepens emotional intelligence, presence, and embodimentHow pregnancy, physical limitations, and seasons of surrender can become portals for personal growth, compassion, and feminine wisdomThe conditioning that teaches women to “be fine,” to smile through pain, and to disconnect from their truth, and how to reclaim your wholeness by allowing yourself to feel it allThe sacred work of shadow integration and self-trust—how to hold rage, grief, and sadness without shame and see them as gateways to authenticity and powerThe healing energy of sisterhood, nurturance, and creativity, and how gathering in safe, intentional spaces reminds us that we were never meant to do life aloneWhat it means to live from wholeness instead of chasing it—remembering that your worth isn't earned through productivity, perfection, or performanceHow to cultivate intentionality and ritual in everyday life by bringing presence, beauty, and creativity into the small, ordinary momentsWhy living an aligned, soul-led life is both mystical and mundane, and how to honor your humanity as deeply as your divinityA gentle reminder that life itself is the occasion—an invitation to slow down, feel deeply, and celebrate the sacredness of being here nowBe sure to hit subscribe so you never miss the latest episode!Connect with Emily:Website: www.EmilyReuschel.comInstagram: @emilyreuschelFacebook: Emily ReuschelLinkedIn: Emily ReuschelJoin my Book Insiders List: Sign up here!Resources and Links:Episode 119 | How to Create...

Halloween Kills Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis, Theories & Spoiler Review! Roxy Striar & Tara Erickson take on the blood-soaked continuation of David Gordon Green's Halloween trilogy as Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Michael Myers face off once more in the brutal aftermath of Halloween (2018). We revisit the legacy of John Carpenter's 1978 classic and the entire franchise—Halloween(1978), Halloween II (1981), Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988), Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989), Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995), Halloween H20 (1998), Halloween Resurrection (2002), Rob Zombie's Halloween (2007) and Halloween II (2009), Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills (2021), and Halloween Ends (2022)—to explore how this chapter expands the town-wide chaos, mob justice, and trauma at the heart of Haddonfield. We break down returning characters like Karen (Strode), Allyson, Tommy Doyle, Lindsey Wallace, Sheriff Brackett, and Lonnie, while analyzing iconic moments like the firehouse massacre, the hospital riot, and Michael's unrelenting rampage through the suburbs. From legendary quotes (“Evil dies tonight!”) to callbacks, kills, and Carpenter's score, this reaction dives deep into the myth of The Shape and what makes this franchise one of horror's most enduring legacies.
