When she was growing up, Daisy would spend countless hours wandering around in the forests that surround the farm, with her siblings. Her childhood was ideal. Those forests held many secrets, however. One of the most surprising secrets is a Dogman that made its presence known to Daisy 20 years ago. Since then, she's had multiple encounters with him. When she saw him for the first time, he was pretty small. That's no longer the case, though. He's absolutely massive now. The creature, unfazed and painless, simply walked upright into the woods like a man. The next morning, Calvin and armed neighbors searched but found no tracks, blood, or signs; no reports of shootings emerged, leaving the incident unsolved. The narrator, born in 1937, grew up farming and hunting (squirrels at 10, turkeys for 64 years), served in the Army, and became a Tallahassee police officer. A lifelong skeptic of Bigfoot lore—dismissing amateur "researchers," unexplained woods sounds (attributed to hogs), hoax-prone reports with inconsistent descriptions, and claims of bulletproof creatures (countered by high-powered rifles)—he questions the "watched" sensation as fear-induced. Yet, he ponders his grandfather's impeccable character: an honest, hardened man with nothing to gain from fabricating a tale that risked his reputation and livelihood in tough times. Neighbors' belief, shown by joining the search, bolsters this. Tonight's guest, Shawn Brackenridge, is a Dogman investigator who doesn't believe in living in your fears. Having said that, even he gets unsettled when he and his research partner visit the area around the Lake Medina Dam, near Mico, Texas. Every time Shawn has visited the dam, the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. The dam is different than any other dam Shawn has seen, when you consider the lengths county officials have gone to, to keep people away from the dam. 7-foot fences surround the dam that are topped with razor wire. Shawn doesn't have to guess why the county has gone to such lengths to keep people away from the dam. He's had multiple encounters with something there that would definitely make the county want to keep people away. Locals who live near the dam don't go outside, after dark. If you were living in Western Europe in the late middle ages and early modern age, you might well come across partly eaten humans, whilst walking around in the woods, or even, alas, strolling in Paris. OBVIOUSLY these partly eaten humans had been attacked by werewolves! Duh! There were a lot of real wolves roaming around,  attacking humans, if the wolves had rabies, or there was a widespread famine affecting all the living beings, but of course the real wolves hadn't attacked and partly eaten the people you were stumbling over. No. It was the fault of actual humans, who, for nefarious reasons, had made deals with the Devil, and therefore could become wolves whenever they wanted, with the help of magic girdles and whatnot. Your hosts discuss the connection of werewolves with witches in the late middle ages and early modern era. Really, that would be the point of all this. But Anne is fascinated both by real wolves and the fact that it was only Western Europe that was in on this nonsense, on account of Eastern Europe doing other things altogether, and Michelle explains Peter Stumpp, who was ONLY a werewolf and not a witch, apparently. Tonight's guest, Casey, used to love camping at the seasonal campground he owns, in the White Mountain National Forest, near Lincoln, New Hampshire. The campground is a beautiful place and Casey has gone camping there, every summer, for the past 10 years. It was an experience that was so frightening, so intense, he vomited right before I called him, for the first time, due to him thinking about what happened to him that evening. Beware The Devil's Knot - DogmanIn the rural Truman County of the 1940s, the Dumeyer family—Will, Georgia, and their children Bobby and young Cassandra—lived on a farm bordering the eerie Devil's Knot, a dense, legend-shrouded hollow said to swallow people whole.
