Copyright ©2026, Weird Darkness.Originally aired: February 24, 2025Weird Darkness traces more than a century of unexplained encounters in the skies over Pennsylvania, from a glowing disc submerged in a Carbondale lake to a werewolf-faced figure tied to a silent craft, the apparent stopping of time outside New Kensington, and the geography researchers believe may explain why the Keystone State draws so many sightings.It opens with the Carbondale incident of November 1974, when teenagers Bill Lloyd, John Lloyd, and Bob Gillette watched a golden-white light streak from the direction of Salem Mountain and drop near the lake outside Russell Park. A disc-shaped glow moved beneath the water, the surface fizzed and turned a sickly green-yellow, and when Officers Barbero and Jacobina fired their weapons at it, the object appeared to dodge the shots. The boys overheard a police radio order to hold off the news media, watched a scuba diver surface screaming, and saw a crane and delivery truck brought to the water's edge under the eye of Police Chief Francis Dottle — only for divers to later produce a single old railroad worker's lantern and declare the whole thing a hoax. Matt Graeber of the UFO Report and Information Center in Philadelphia arrived at five in the morning to find a crowd of between fifteen hundred and three thousand people ringing the lake.From there the episode moves to February 1975 in Simpson, where a driver on Route 171 joined other motorists pulled over to watch red and green lights hover before a white beam appeared and the object shot off faster than a fighter jet. That June, two friends fishing at Red Bank near the Allegheny Reservoir tracked a craft that stopped dead in midair and hovered for roughly an hour, then heard KDKA radio report at six-thirty that morning that a UFO had crashed into an eastern Pennsylvania lake and the National Guard had it surrounded, before the story disappeared from every outlet. Near Erie around the same stretch, two motorists stopped to study a silent disc about eighty feet across hanging a thousand feet up, ringed with red, yellow, blue, and green lights, and afterward never spoke of it to each other again.Next comes Oil City on November 1, 1974, where CB radio chatter about lights near the Vocational Technical Center across from Oil City High School drew a group of brothers out to look. They found three or four bright lights spread miles apart, moving in geometric formations no aircraft could manage, performing for nearly two hours in front of hundreds of onlookers.The account then shifts to Saylor's Lake in Monroe County on the evening of March 1, 1973, where lights began darting fifteen hundred feet above the water around seven-thirty, shifting between white, red, and blue. State Trooper Jeffrey Hontz, sent to investigate, later told the press the display looked like Christmas trees flying in the air. Witnesses counted roughly forty separate lights, all of them silent at an altitude where planes or helicopters would have roared, and the spectacle lasted until just before eleven.That summer of 1973 in Erie, a teenager sleeping in a backyard tent to escape the heat saw a red, star-like object cross the sky with apparent purpose and ran inside to fetch his grandmother. Disney and Six Flags both shared details about new projects, and this week, we'll compare them.Disney announced the story behind Monstropolis, the new Monsters, Inc. land coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios. The experience is built around H.U.M.A.N. Day, short for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice”, a citywide celebration that brings humans into the monster world for the first time. Set after the events of the original film, the story builds on James P. Sullivan and Mike Wazowski's discovery that human laughter is significantly more powerful than screams.Cast members work as human relations representatives, and the conflict arises from monsters who are not sold on the idea, including those from a Child Detection Agency. Beyond the suspended Monsters, Inc. coaster, Disney detailed a theater show built around H.U.M.A.N. Day that it says uses technology it has never attempted.Theme park lands struggle from a lack of exposition time, and this framing solves that cleanly, while giving guests a solid role in the story. Moreover, it helps cast members answer one question about the guest in front of them: "Who is this parkgoer to me?"Meanwhile, Six Flags Fiesta Texas announced Werewolf Gorge for its 35th anniversary season, a Vekoma family launch coaster opening in 2027 and the longest in park history at 4,120 feet, with four launches and speeds up to 45 mph. Guests are on a tour of an abandoned 19th-century Texas silver mine led by Jasper Bunyan, a roadside showman who has turned the haunted quarry into a tourist trap. Bunyan loads visitors onto a mining train for what he sells as a sightseeing run through the gorge, but the tour turns into a high-speed escape when a centuries-old werewolf curse comes back to life around them. The queue runs through two themed rooms, a Museum of Cryptids and a Werewolf Museum, that set up Bunyan's character and the local legend before riders board. For Six Flags, this is a real step up in storytelling. ThunderBirds in New England and Bigfoot StoriesOn a clear summer day in a small Massachusetts town, Tay and her mother were walking their two elderly Shih Tzus near the woods behind the house when the atmosphere suddenly changed. The birds and bugs went silent, the air felt unnaturally still, and both dogs froze while staring straight up. A massive shadow swept over them, so large it seemed to cover the whole area, even though the sky was completely clear. Terrified, Tay grabbed one dog and shouted for her mother to do the same, both women feeling as though something unseen was stalking them and targeting the dogs.Moments later, they heard the loud whoosh of enormous wings and the sound of branches breaking high in the trees, but they still couldn't see anything except its immense shadow. Tay then watched her neighbor's sunlit gray roof slowly turn black from one end to the other, as if a giant body had passed over it, before the light returned and everything abruptly went back to normal. When Tay later checked the wooded area, she found broken limbs scattered on the ground, confirming that something very large had moved through the treetops. Black Panter Taken in West TennesseeA West Tennessee man describes how the local general store served as a gathering place for farmers, where serious stories were sometimes told about mysterious dangers in the woods, including a black panther. One man, Mr. Don, shares a frightening account of seeing a large black animal attack a deer and hearing terrifying screams afterward. Later, the narrator and his friends hear the same kind of scream and see a fast-moving black creature near The Elbow, causing them to flee in fear. The next day, the boys are warned by the town's men to stay away from the area for over a week while they “take care of” something. The first happened in July 2015 in DeWitt County while he was driving his young son and daughter on a quiet gravel road near an overgrown creek. A bipedal creature stepped out of tall grass about 40 yards ahead—mottled gray with sparse bristly hair, a long snout and tall ears like a kangaroo, and tiny arms held close to its body. It moved with an awkward wobbling gait and crossed into the grass without reacting to the vehicle. He briefly grabbed his pistol and started after it for a closer look, but stopped when he realized his kids were alone in the car and he didn't know how the animal might behave.He believes the first animal was a real, physical creature—possibly a mutation or escaped exotic animal—neither aggressive nor afraid, and maybe increasing in number as development pushes wildlife around. His second encounter came in February 2019 after leaving a late-night performance at Luckenbach near Fredericksburg. Driving home around 2 a.m., his headlights caught two huge pale-yellow eyes about ten feet above the road at the treeline by a creek. The figure moved, revealing a massive, dark-haired, humanoid form with no visible neck and unusually long arms; it then dropped lower into the brush while watching him pass. Chris kept his speed steady out of fear it might react, then accelerated once he'd put distance between them, and later returned in daylight but found nothing that could explain what he saw.

Roger joined the group in a remote, heavily wooded area known among enthusiasts for supposed hauntings. After setting up camp, they compared equipment and methods: an EMF meter, digital thermometer for “cold spots,” Polaroid and electronic cameras for “orbs,” an expensive infrared video camera, and an EVP recorder that might capture voices in white noise (which skeptics attribute to pareidolia). The group even encountered a Bigfoot hunter who exchanged business cards with them, prompting good‑natured jokes about how each group probably seemed ridiculous to the other. Once darkness fell, the ghost hunters visited several rumored hotspots—old canal locks and other locations tied to local legends—navigating in near total darkness, where Roger narrowly avoided stepping off an unseen drop at an abandoned lock. After more fruitless searching (including attempts to provoke the spirit of Pretty Boy Floyd), the night finally turned strange at a cemetery with dozens of graves dating back to the 1800s. Using the infrared camera, the group observed bright, rubber‑band‑shaped forms hovering above them, expanding and contracting, then diving into grave mounds or headstones and disappearing, while others seemed to emerge and drift along. Roger couldn't explain what he saw, and the group watched for about half an hour before returning to camp around 3 a.m.; years later, Roger remains mystified by that inexplicable display.

Phil was featured on Episode 644, two weeks ago, and on that show he talked about a traumatic experience he had one night when he was 8 years old. That was the night a Werewolf came to his bedroom window, while he was staying at his Aunt Sissy's house. After splitting up to cover more ground, Ray sat down to rest on a steep hill, quickly falling into a deep sleep for three hours. He awoke disoriented, then continued through the beautiful moonlit woods until he climbed another hill and froze at the sight of a massive bipedal creature silhouetted against the sky on the ridge above, swaying back and forth in apparent agitation. For ten tense minutes the two stared at each other at about 40 yards; Ray considered shining his light or firing his .22 rifle but ultimately held still, sensing the creature's overwhelming size made any attack futile. The being paralleled him for roughly a mile along the ridge as he followed a winding creek, until it vanished from view. Moments later, something very close rumbled and a rough, leathery hand wiped across his face and neck, triggering raw panic. Ray ran until he collapsed exhausted in a ditch beside a gravel road. His worried friend soon found him in a truck around 3:45 a.m. Ray never told him the full story, claiming only that he had fallen asleep and gotten lost. He never hunted in the woods again for the next 33 years.
