We welcome in 2020 with survival stories after the silly season and launching Unzip's second season.Katherine speaks about leaping into the great unknown of setting up her kid’s social media accounts.  Andy remembers how his family encouraged his tech passions in the nineties but also setup clear boundaries. We chat through some of the familiar worries that parents have with social media platforms, you know, bullying, addiction and grooming. Just the basics.Mel Burgess joins us in the studio and says that we should first trust ourselves as parents and be confident in our fundamentals (empathy, respect etc). Mel reminds us that being involved in our kids interests; tech and otherwise is really important as it's all about relationships and guidance instead of discipline and ultimatums.Andy asks about fiercely independent kids and how to deal with that.  We finish our chat with Mel agreeing that family values are key and understanding that kids are learning on social media so we need to help them along with that.  We’d love to hear from you via unzipthepodcast@gmail.com, @podcastunzip on Twitter and https://www.facebook.com/unzippodcast/
