d4vd has a music video where his character drags a body into a car. Prosecutors are now alleging he did that, for real, to a fourteen-year-old girl. We put the fictional version and the criminal allegation side by side. Before any of this, David Burke was a homeschooled kid recording songs on an iPhone in his sister's closet, building a following inside Fortnite lobbies. Prosecutors say that's also where he met Celeste Rivas Hernandez, when both were still teenagers, years before his career took off. Signed to Darkroom and Interscope at seventeen, Burke created an alter ego, Itami, meaning pain, an agent of chaos he described wearing a blindfold, a concept pulled from a manga about a detective whose alter ego commits the murders he solves. The comparison he used himself was Tyler Durden. His videos showed the character with a bloody knife and, in another, taking a woman's arm. The forensic case built during the preliminary hearing doesn't rely on any of that. A trace analyst matched cuts on a garage pool to fragments recovered on Celeste's leggings. DNA tied both the Tesla and the home to her. A criminalist described real blood scrubbed from the garage floor, feet from containers of fake blood. Cell tower records placed Burke's Tesla in Santa Barbara County three times after Celeste allegedly died. She was fourteen, went to his home on April 23, 2025, and was never heard from again. Her remains were found in the Tesla months later. Burke has pleaded not guilty to murder, illegal acts involving a minor, and mutilation of human remains. Halloween Horror Nights is bringing Fortnitemares to both its US events this fall, a scare zone modeled on the game's annual in-game Halloween event, complete with the Battle Bus and a few HHN-exclusive additions. Fortnite is the most-played console game in the United States, with more than 650 million lifetime registered players, a brand larger than the event hosting it. The creative objection is the weakest one, since Fortnitemares is already a Halloween event. The harder questions are operational: this targets the same young demographic behind teen takeovers, in a scare zone with no line to control. Success comes down to balancing three brands at once, enough Fortnite, enough Halloween, and enough Universal.Meanwhile, Universal's theme parks grew revenue 2.7% in the second quarter while segment EBITDA fell 5.1%, the first decline since Epic Universe opened. Orlando attendance softened in June and stayed pressured into July, with management pointing to fuel prices and consumer sentiment. Guests who come are spending, but fewer are coming, and Epic itself is still delivering. The response is a Halloween bet: a 48-night Horror Nights run starting August 28, Universal Nights in October, and Epic passholder discounts up to 40%. We've argued summer is becoming the industry's new shoulder season, and this quarter shows why. Summer sells the core product alone, while fall sells the same core plus the seasonal overlay on one ticket. In today's Daily Fix:Another casualty in the big Xbox reset of 2026 is reportedly an unannounced Halo multiplayer project. The game was in development at Certain Affinity, who is a support studio with credits on several other Halo and Call of Duty titles. Halo 5's Warzone mode was apparently an inspiration for the game, and was to be built in Unreal Engine, like the soon-to-be-released Halo: Campaign Evolved. In other news, Matt Reeves' The Batman Part 2 is being delayed to 2028 (!) which would make it about six years since Part 1 dropped in 2022. For comparison, all three of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight movies were released in a seven-year period. And speaking of Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey will be journeying to theaters this weekend, as well as in Fortnite. Skins for Matt Damon's Odysseus and Benny Safdie's Agamemnon will be available in the game starting tomorrow.
