This week on Bad Dads Film Review, we review The Life Ahead, the 2020 Netflix drama directed by Edoardo Ponti and starring Sophia Loren as Madame Rosa.It is a film about grief, trauma, community, memory, faith, chosen family, and a young boy called Momo who is running out of safe places until he collides with an elderly woman who understands pain better than most. What we coveredMonday-recording energy after England's glorious World Cup defeat of Mexico at the Azteca.Recent watches including The Armstrong Lie, Marco Pierre White, Cape Fear, Shot Caller, The Boys, and some explosive dynamite nominations.Sophia Loren's return in a film directed by her son, Edoardo Ponti.Madame Rosa: Holocaust survivor, former sex worker, carer for the children of other sex workers, and a woman still carrying deep fear of doctors and institutions.Momo's introduction: stealing Rosa's candlesticks in the market, trying to stash them badly, and giving possibly the least heartfelt apology ever.Dr Cohen's attempt to place Momo with Rosa, and the negotiation that moves from “absolutely not” to a deal once the money improves.Rosa's household: Babu, Yosef, Lola, and the mix of Jewish, Muslim, Catholic, immigrant, queer and street-level lives around her.Lola as a transgender sex worker, parent and former boxer, and the dads' discussion of how the film includes a lot of identity and community threads.Momo being given a job by Mr Hamil, who helps connect him to his Muslim and Senegalese heritage.Momo's parallel life as a young hash dealer, including his quick success, his maths brain, and the fishmonger/drug dealer who tells him never to mess him about. The recurring lioness imagery and how it connects to Momo's mother, protection, Senegal, faith and abandonment.Madame Rosa's decline: the rain episode, the staring spells, dementia-like symptoms, and Momo covering for her to preserve her dignity.Rosa's hidden basement room, her Auschwitz tattoo, her Jewish memories, and the place she has built to feel safe. The promise Rosa extracts from Momo: do not let them take me to hospital.Momo's guilt when Rosa is hospitalised while he has been out drinking and dealing. The hospital “jailbreak” and the return to the basement, where Momo tries to keep his promise. The fake mimosa plant Momo makes for Rosa, and why that gesture becomes one of the film's most moving moments. The ending: Rosa's death, the funeral, and Momo walking away with Lola and Mr Hamil as a fragile new family unit.Sophia Loren's screen presence at 86: still fiery, still commanding, and especially powerful in the largely silent final section.Ibrahima Gueye's debut as Momo, which the dads thought was hugely impressive. The criticism that the film is sometimes too broad, too sweet, and a bit treacly — touching on many serious subjects without fully developing all of them. Why the drug storyline, in particular, feels like it could have gone somewhere darker but is resolved quite softly. The film's Puglia setting, warm colours, Italian street life, and very direct community feeling.Key quotes / momentsSidey notes that this is probably his first proper Sophia Loren film.Reegs calls the film “a bit treacly, a bit saccharine,” and argues that it throws too much in without examining enough of it in depth.Cris argues that the breadth is part of the Italian community texture: different faiths, identities, politics, histories and people all trying to get by.Dan responds strongly to the setting, the culture, and the idea of people with difficult lives still trying to do something decent for a child. The fake mimosa plant stands out as the small gesture that shows Momo has changed.VerdictA strong recommend. The dads acknowledge that The Life Ahead is well-intentioned and sometimes too broad or sentimental, but the performances, warmth, setting and emotional generosity carry it. Sophia Loren is excellent, Ibrahima Gueye is terrific, and the film's simple message — damaged people can still look after each other — lands. You can now text us anonymously to leave feedback, suggest future content or simply hurl abuse at us. Continental Europe is in the grip of a deadly heatwave that has claimed hundreds of lives, including three children in France, as temperatures soared above 40C. France and Spain were among the worst affected as the continent sweltered under a heat dome, a vast area of stagnant high pressure. In Spain, 212 people have died due to the extreme heat over the past week, according to data from the country's mortality monitoring system, MoMo. At least 48 people have drowned in France, seeking relief from the record-breaking temperatures, including a 21-year-old French footballer with a second-division club. In the UK meanwhile, the UK's hottest June day on record has been broken again during this week's heatwave, with a provisional temperature of 36.4C recorded in Yeovilton, Somerset. This surpasses the high of 36.1C set on Wednesday in Gosport, Hampshire, the Met Office said. It comes after the Met Office extended its red warning for extreme heat for Friday as the peak of a heatwave affecting most of England and Wales are set to shift eastwards. But what is causing these records to be smashed, and this brutal weather to continue? And how long will the heat last? We explain the 'heat dome' that has descended upon Europe.

Samantha Tennant sits down with Andrea Hairston — novelist, playwright, Afrofuturist, and self-described "scientist, artiste, and hoodoo conjurer" — to talk about her latest novel, THE REDEMPTION CENTER IS CLOSED ON SUNDAYS, a genre-defying extra-dimensional murder mystery anchored by a Saint Bernardoodle dog detective named Una. Andrea draws on her decades in theater — as director, playwright, and professor — to explain how she weaves mystery, romance, and science fiction into a single story without losing the thread of any of them. She talks about using the dog as a pivot point: Una doesn't recognize genre, she just knows the people she loves, which turns out to be the perfect lens for a story that spans dimensions. The conversation moves into Andrea's background shift from mathematics and physics to theater (with a detour through lighting design and Ohm's Law), her long-standing research into animal cognition and dog behavior, and what Afrofuturism actually means in practice — not predicting the future, but understanding the present deeply enough to make real choices about what comes next. She uses Harriet Tubman and Einstein as parallel examples of people who imagined their way to something that didn't exist yet. The Fresh Fiction Facts segment reveals she owns a "ridiculous" number of DVDs (including every Star Trek series), that she'd rather visit the future than the past, and that her most dog-eared books are Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower, anything by Ursula Le Guin, and Momo by Michael Ende — which she re-reads in German. Andrea closes with a peek at her work-in-progress: QUEEN FOR TODAY, a secondary world fantasy about a carnival queen of misrule whose single day of reign changes everything.

10 Strangest Missouri Cryptids - Missouri isn't just the "Show-Me State"—it's a land of deep, ancient hollows, winding riverbeds, and limestone caves that hide secrets dating back centuries. While the Midwest is often seen as quiet farmland, those who live near the Ozark hills or the banks of the "Big Muddy" know better. From the stinking, hair-raising terror of the Momo sightings in the 1970s to the protective, shimmering spirits of the Joplin Butterfly People, Missouri is a hotbed of high-strangeness. In tonight's episode, we step off the marked trails and into the shadows to count down the 10 strangest cryptids and urban legends ever reported in Missouri. Whether they are biological anomalies, interdimensional visitors, or the stuff of pure nightmare, these entities prove that the heartland is far more mysterious than it appears. In this video, we explore: The blood-curdling cry of the Ozark Howler. The 12-foot-tall aggressive giant known as the Beaman Monster. The grotesque, light-hating Ratman of Kansas City. ...and the elusive Jimplicute, a phantom that stalks the Ozark Highlands.

Semafor reported that Flutterwave aims to become Africa's go-to fintech. The plan centers on unifying card payments, bank transfers, mobile money, and payouts under one provider across multiple African markets. Competition includes Safaricom's M-Pesa, MTN Group's MoMo, Paystack, and Chipper Cash. Regulatory approvals and compliance across countries such as Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, and Egypt will determine execution speed. Merchants will evaluate providers on reliability, settlement, fraud controls, dispute handling, and foreign exchange tools. Partnerships with banks, telcos, card networks, and major platforms will influence adoption by enterprises and marketplaces.Learn more on this news by visiting us at: https://greyjournal.net/news/ Hosted on Acast. In the second part of their interview, DJ Pup Dawg and Momo Boyd dive into the reality of the music business, social habits, and the irony of communication in the digital age. Momo hilariously admits to being the type of person who takes it personally when people don’t reply to texts, despite being terrible at replying herself, leading to a funny breakdown of modern "self-centeredness". She shares details about her upcoming first-ever solo tour with stops in Atlanta, Detroit, New York, and LA, alongside international dates, while keeping up a heavy touring schedule with her family band, Infinity Song. To wrap things up, Momo leaves listeners with a powerful piece of advice: resist the urge to be a bystander in your own life, take control, and remember that you are the protagonist of your own story.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In this clip, the multitalented Momo Boyd sits down to discuss the soaring success of her solo career and her hit single, "Oops". While she’s currently in Paris doing press ahead of an upcoming album launch, she takes time to reflect on her unique musical upbringing as one of nine children raised in a deeply musical household. Momo opens up about the dynamic of stepping out for a solo project while remaining a dedicated member of her family’s four-piece band, Infinity Song. She also shares her genuine excitement over collaborating with Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar on a track that hit number one on the countdown, proving that her unique alternative and R&B style is captivating a whole new audience.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week on Barely Famous, Kail sits down with Haylee & Harlee identical MoMo twins whose story is as rare as the bond they share. From surviving a high-risk pregnancy to growing up constantly being seen as one person, the twins open up about the realities of sharing everything from a womb to a childhood, while still trying to figure out who they were as individuals. The conversation dives into the emotional side of twinhood, the pressure of always being compared, and the complicated balance between deep connection and personal identity. They also reflect on what their mother endured bringing them into the world, how that experience shaped their family, and what it has looked like to carry that bond into adulthood, marriage, and motherhood.Get your Fatherless Behavior Tour Tickets HereFor full video episodes head to patreon.com/kaillowryThanks for supporting the show by checking out the sponsors! To find the right home for you head to apartments.comTonal: Right now, Tonal is offering my listeners $200 off your Tonal purchase at tonal.com with promo code BARELY.Boll And Branch: Now's your chance to change the way you sleep with Boll and Branch.
