When you think of our pattern of speech do you think what's proper or improper; correct or incorrect; standard or unorthodox? In this episode we dive into vernacular and discuss African American Vernacular English. For decades African Americans have been stripped of our language and told the way we speak isn't necessarily proper. But what's united us over time has been our ability to adapt our speech with native tongue and the language that was mandated on our ancestors. As our way of speaking has become mainstream and acknowledge, we have to ask some tough questions. Should we gatekeep? Is it appropriation? Why should we code switch? Nepotism in the vicinity of how we shake and move as a community and are we reaping any benefits? Nepotism, root word nepos, a Latin term meaning nephew. Dating back to Middle Age, Catholic popes who'd taken chastity vows and had no offspring would hand their nephews positions of preference, as would a father to a son. Fast forward to today's age and we can all think of instances of nepotism and its benefits. From Hollywood to the legacy preference in college admissions to the blatant lack of diversity within the NFL's ownership. It's happening! America's most powerful dynasties keep it in the family, handing down wealth, power, business empires, and monarchies. What do you think about Nepotism within the black community? Do you believe there is more merit in starting from the bottom? Would you accept a head start? Do we embrace this ideology of bringing others up with us? “It takes a Village to raise a child”. Derived from many African cultures, a proverb expressing the collective responsibility of the village to protect, educate and support each other for the greater good of the child; a blessing. If you know how our family structures have been disrupted for the benefits/profits/gains of others then you also know the impact it has on our societies, by design. Children need healthy interactions with other members of a community to help in cultivating reciprocity within. We know that there are pros and cons to everything, but how do we begin to take the old and make it new? Were you part of a larger family network of whom most could rear you? Or, did your parents say, “I wish another mother sucka would put their hands on my child”? What parts do we keep and what parts do we throw away from our upbringing? Let's have this discussion. We celebrate wins big and small in relationships but celebrating the bare minimums can prove problematic. Dre joins us to add a male's perspective on vestige relationships and shares his thoughts on why people sometimes think it's okay to show up with the bare minimum. You have to show others how you want and expect to be treated. Sometimes we end up teaching the same lesson 2-3-5-8 times & we're still there. Just teaching all the lessons. Is it worth it? Can you work it? HaHa... just saying after you teach the lesson and they still ain't gettin it, is it time to move on or let that shit go? Furthermore, while you're there take a look within too. What are “you” constantly complaining about, yet continuing to accept? If someone is treating you below your standard, do not accept just anything, demand your worth or let it go? Vetting: 21 Questions For 50 First Dates

What would you say about your vetting style during dating? How do you assess your partners? Is there a list of “must haves” vs. “absolutely no-no’s”? When do they meet mama & em? What do you even consider dating? I mean there are levels to this. You may be casually talking to people, which leaves you open without obligation. You may be seeing “someone” in particular however without a title. And or you may be in an exclusive relationship, is it mutual? Wikipedia refers to dating as a stage of romantic relationships practiced in Western societies whereby two people meet socially with the aim of each assessing the other's suitability as a prospective partner in a future intimate relationship. Which all leads to the vetting process. How long does it take to determine that this person’s? Is your process anything like a formal job interview? Have you come across candidates that look good on paper, only to find out they’re nothing like who they presented themselves to be?? Like who is this representative and where is the other person that I was actually attracted to? LOLOLOLOL! Thing is, we don’t think people spend nearly enough time examining a potential mate as we should, before we find ourselves too deep into situations to turn back. It is vital that we are vetting our mates with a fine tooth comb, under a microscopic microscope with latex gloves and tweezers before getting settled. Take time to make sure that this person is really right for you. Ask all the “off the wall questions” to get to the bottom of the matter before moving in, getting married, and goodness knows before having children. Look for all the signs. Whew.. Take your time and enjoy some rides before committing to one for the long haul, just to be sure you’re choosing the right one. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/vnfiniti/support

    Veracity: Truth Is... Why Lie?

As people we are hardwired to prevent pain. Seriously, the makeup of our brains prevents us from self-harm. This will sometimes manifest in the form of a lie with the complete intent to avoid such pain. We all do it, right? But does it really work? Can we lie and truly avoid pain? Perhaps but in the long run even, if it’s ourselves someone, usually gets hurt. And our plan for self-preservation has only bought us time but not complete avoidance of the one thing we were trying to avoid, pain. Deep down inside who are we striving to be? Honesty is a virtue belonging to people who hold themselves to high moral and ethical standards. Veracity still exist. Even after making mistakes, part of being honest is facing it and forgiving ourselves. This too allows some freedom of burdens in order to grow. No one’s damning anyone or expecting perfection. However, authenticity should be easy, as much as telling the truth. In this episode of VNfiniti we are sharing tips in an effort to close the wealth gap, leave assets to the next generation of thinkers, doers & trailblazers. Yes, we are aware that systematic inequalities have contributed to racial disparities. However, we also know that there’s a vast amount of knowledge and resources available to us if we’d simply access them. Here’s the thing, our ancestors ascended from slavery building businesses and acquiring mass wealth against all odds. During this time, a number of Black Wall Streets emerged throughout the states, until decimated by envious, lazy white mobs. As a result, from the early 1920’s up until policies and laws were changed in the latter 1900’s, systemic symptoms crippled our communities with poverty. So, the question posed now is, what’s keeping the black community from rising in the ranks of accruing wealth? The blueprints are written, whether we refer to them or re-invent the wheel, what changes will you make today to change your reality for tomorrow? --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/vnfiniti/support

I think it’s fair to say that many of us came in with 20/20 vision, to what we prematurely deemed to be a ground-breaking and evolutionary year. We manifested, prayed and affirmed new paths into love, life and the pursuit of happiness. Little did we know how 2020 was going to blaze its own path, leaving its mark on the world with or without us. Now, of us who survived this year we will forever be changed. Whether from the heartbreak of losing someone to COVID-19 or experiencing the illness personally. Or witnessing the police brutality, war on racism, or the election of the first Female & BLACK vice president. However, we will come out of this year as any other year if we’re blessed to see the next one with hopes of enlightenment and lessons learned to carry us over in the years that follow. Veer: Growth is Optional, Change is Inevitable

Do we allow people to veer and change their paths of growth, even if it’s not in the direction that we prefer? Do we grant others the grace they need to evolve? Do we dismiss people if their growth doesn’t benefit us? Evolution is inevitable. We as people progress, regress and digress depending on where we are in our life’s journey and per our own individual paths. Life is the best teacher, it can be difficult sometimes to watch people we care about veer in the wrong direction. We often want to intervene to save people from their mistakes or downfalls, forgetting that it’s not our responsibility to save them from themselves. Those experiences and lessons are vital for our maturity. Sometimes, when we can’t save people from their shit, as a defense or coping mechanism, we veer off in a different direction. We may do this in an effort to save ourselves from the heartache that their actions might bring or because we feel bitter about their life’s choices especially if they don’t coincide with our own. However, we say to you, be not envious, overbearing, spiteful or vengeful towards others and their paths. Instead, be compassionate towards others by allowing them the time and grace needed to grow into the individual they desire to be, even if that means veering off onto a path of their own. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/vnfiniti/support

However, not every offense warrants the public shaming, dismissing or discarding that some have suffered from sharing these beliefs publicly.
