This is Part Two of Teens and Screens, and it's the counterweight. Last episode, Dr. Johann D'Souza made the case for keeping toxic screens out of your teenager's hands entirely. Today I'm joined again by Dr. Will Dobud — social worker, researcher, and co-author of Kids These Days — who thinks the story we tell ourselves about phones and youth mental health is far bigger than the evidence behind it.I open by naming my own bias: I work with the families where it went wrong. Porn addiction, gaming addiction, failure to launch, daughters pulled into dark corners of social media. Will names his: he's oppositional by temperament, and he wrote a book making fun of how adults talk about kids.We get into why the meta-analytic effects between screen use and youth mental health are so small they're arguably not worth publishing, what a third variable does to correlational data, and why Australia's social media ban is failing six months in. I push back repeatedly — on whether "do what feels right" is useful advice to parents who don't know what modern pornography even is, on the candy-bin problem of unregulated access, and on whether calling the phone a symptom of family dysfunction slides into blaming parents. Then Will gets on his soapbox about school, and the conversation turns somewhere I didn't expect: youth self-harm and ER data that tracks the school calendar. Up during term, down during holidays. Highest on Mondays. What if we've been pointing at the wrong thing?Books mentioned in this episode:Kids These Days — Dr. Will Dobud, with co-author NevinThe Anxious Generation — Jonathan HaidtDr. Will Dobud is a social worker, researcher, and educator who has worked with adolescents and families in the United States, Australia, and Norway. Will is from Washington, D.C., and divides his time between the United States and Australia each year. He is an award-winning researcher and educator recognized for excellence in research, teaching, and crime prevention. Dr. Dobud is a Senior Lecturer in Social Work at Charles Sturt University, Australia's largest social work school. His research focuses on improving therapy outcomes for teenagers and promoting safe, ethical practices. He has investigated and written about America's Troubled Teen Industry, especially wilderness therapy. He has worked alongside advocates, survivors, researchers, and clinicians to protect youth from institutionalization and harm. Will is the co-author of the award-winning book, Kids These Days: Understanding and Supporting Youth Mental Health (2025).Links

On this week’s rather busy China Compass podcast, we begin with a quick look at Chinese state propaganda this week (no Fauci), followed by a laugh at Dictator Xi’s expense, a look-in at Hong Kong’s weak air and fierce security. Then we travel to far west China’s border with Afghanistan, before climbing up on the Tibetan Plateau to talk about the highest prison on earth. Finally, I tell a few stories related to phone security (or not), and then we finish by looking once again at the best ways to pray for China. When Jay Shetty started his podcast On Purpose in 2019, he remembers people telling him he was too late. The medium was already saturated, they said, with little room for growth. And wasn't he really just a content creator? Seven years later, the 38-year-old self-help guru hosts one of the most popular podcasts in the world, competing not only with the biggest TV, radio and internet-native talk shows but blurring the lines between them entirely. Just as many people watch his lengthy interviews with celebrities (including Michelle Obama and Matt Damon) on YouTube as listen on the iHeartMedia network—distribution deals that Forbes estimates paid Shetty $21 million over the past 12 months. And when those deals expired this year, Shetty landed a new kind of contract, in which the audio and video of his show will not only be distributed by Spotify; it will also stream on Netflix, with the two companies combining to pay him an estimated $100 million over the next three years. “When I started, video wasn't normal for a podcast,” Shetty tells Forbes. “Now we had the four largest streamers bidding for the show. To see that kind of interest and enthusiasm was pretty amazing—for me and for the industry overall.” By Matt Craig, Reporter Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

All sets were professionally calibrated and compared side-by-side against reference Sony BVM-HX3110 mastering monitors. Judges scored attributes (contrast/grayscale, color accuracy, processing, shadow detail, motion handling, bright-room performance, etc.) on a 1–5 scale for both SDR and HDR. Combined averages determine the rankings. OLED Category (65-inch flagships) Samsung QN65S95H (QD-OLED) — Combined (SDR + HDR) average 9.3 → King of OLED TV and overall King of TV for 2026. Highest scores in both SDR and HDR; won the majority of categories. Ended Sony's seven-year winning streak. $2500 at Amazon Sony K65XR80M2 (Bravia 8 II / QD-OLED) — Combined average 8.0 Close runner-up with strong, consistent performance in both SDR and HDR. $3000 at Amazon LG OLED65G6WUA (W-OLED / tandem) — Combined average 7.0 Solid but finished a clear third. $3300 direct from LG Micro RGB (True RGB Mini/Micro-LED LCD) Category (75-inch flagships) This was the first year the shootout included a dedicated Micro RGB / true RGB-backlit LCD category. Sony K75XR90M2 (Bravia 9 II) — Combined average 7.9 → King of Mini/Micro RGB TV. Samsung's S95H QD-OLED was the standout performer of the event by a healthy margin. Sony's new true RGB Bravia 9 II proved the Mini RGB approach is highly competitive (it even beat LG's G6 OLED and was competitive with Sony's own OLED in some HDR aspects). LG placed third in both categories. The event highlighted how close the top flagships have become, while still showing meaningful differences in accuracy, processing, and real-content performance under calibrated conditions.

Building a highly successful advisory platform is less about running every department yourself and more about finding the right operational partners to turn big ideas into a structured reality. Today's milestone episode explores the personal frameworks, scaling pain points, and core values that propelled a solo blog into a powerhouse industry platform. Michael Kitces, co-founder of the 26-person Kitces.com platform, turns the microphone around for our 500th episode to be interviewed by financial planning nerd Adam Van Deusen. Unpacking his personal approach to time management, Michael breaks down the "look at the tape" tracking framework that helps pinpoint an entrepreneur's highest and best use. He also details his transformative shift away from direct people management by partnering with an operational "integrator" (inspired by Gino Wickman's Rocket Fuel), and how building firm-wide metrics around the platform's QNR (Quality, Nerdy, Relevant) content standards gave him the confidence to hand off production. Listen in to hear raw lessons learned from navigating a painful 4X hyper-growth cycle, the exact 49-day interview process Michael uses to ensure cultural alignment, and how his definition of success has evolved after 500 episodes of interviewing industry leaders. Lured Up Podcast 401: The Highest Bidder Live Streamed on -7/21/2026 Publish Date - 7/23/2026 Listen to this episode ad free on Patreon! https://www.patreon.com/PokemonProfessor The dust has finally settled from the 10th Anniversary Event in NYC and GO Fest Global Weekend. We have a ton to unpack and discuss as the community has had some time to respond to the madness that was the last week. It was pretty wild to see the community turn on itself in anger. The creators were up first to feel the flames as it seemed the Community Ambassadors would come out untouched. Then… The Times Square Mewtwo hit eBay and things went nuts. People forgot about being mad at creators and turned on the CAs and their communities. RaspberryWeiner broke some news about finding out the in-game name of one of the sellers who even came forward to apologize and say that he didn't know selling a Pokémon on eBay was against any rules. It was wild to watch as the internet delivered another reason for the X-mob to dislike the event. We stuck around NYC to play GO Fest Global, where we put ourselves under a massive challenge to walk all the way from Bryant Park in Manhattan to Industry City, Brooklyn and back. Let's just say our dogs were barking and we were just about out of gas when we got back to Bryant Park. Huge shout to LeBro for making the journey with us to Brooklyn. We were very surprised by the gameboard at the Community Celebration, as it seemed to be 90% Gyms. You could feel the lack of Lures as the spawns seemed pretty thin. It was a pretty cool setting, but definitely was a departure from the park style play that we have seen before. Scopely Explore did have a first this week, and that was the announcement of their first make up event under their new name! In all seriousness, the community is buzzing in a positive way about the make up GO Fest Raids being a global make up. They are even throwing in a bunch of Raid passes to boot. The Scopely Effect is becoming more and more noticeable, and we are loving that even when parts of the community can feel a little rough around the edges, the masses online still seem to be rowing in the same direction as the developer. The pacing and event calendar for the rest of the month into August is already looking packed. With Ultra Unlocks, new Shinies, and plenty of things to do, there is definitely no rest for the weary. The focus on IRL play with a consistent spattering of very remote friendly events have created a nice balance for different types of Trainers to come together. Before we wrap up we have a few listener emails and a voicemail to play, with SerAmanda bringing a banger of a protip in the settings. We close with our guiding principal of the episode being: Everyone is playing a different game. Trainers with different goals and process can meet on the same gameboard and navigate an event together, even if they are concerned with very different things. In life, we interact with people every day and never really know what they can be going through. Emily Kim moved to Boston knowing no one. A single thoughtful post in a local Facebook group of 40,000 members led to 22 coffee chats and $10,000+ in closed business later, in-person networking is still her go-to growth strategy for local service providers. A former Apple software engineer, Emily left tech to build two in-person businesses from scratch, including a brand photography business with 300+ clients. Now a business and marketing strategist, she teaches service providers how to get known and hired locally instead of chasing content creation. In this episode, Emily breaks down what made that first post work, how her coffee-chat network still sends her referrals from a city she no longer lives in, and why leaving the house to talk to people beats posting online for highest-ROI marketing. Gio has a list of the highest earning celebrities from 1998. Boomer tries to guess the athletes on that list. Bonus content: Boomer saw a video of himself dancing to the Spice Girls. Now that's a 90s throwback.
Gio shares a list of 1998's highest-earning celebrities for Boomer to guess, right before Boomer recounts a video of himself dancing to the Spice Girls. Next, Jerry's final update arrives after a quick discussion about Gio's plans for his mom's 80th birthday. In baseball, Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s home run helps the Yankees salvage a game against the Dodgers, and Francisco Lindor powers the Mets past the Phillies—sparking Boomer's memory from a postgame comment—before a funky outfield sunglasses play occurs and Mets fans blast Tommy Lugauer on Twitter. Then, analysts slam Argentina's World Cup Final performance, and the Moment of the Day recaps the final's sights and sounds involving Dua Lipa and Gerrit Cole. Finally, Gio delivers more thoughts on the 1998 list, a caller shares a Tommy Bolt story that Boomer vaguely remembers, and a final caller wraps things up with Mets positivity.
A U.S. Army veteran steps onto his back porch at 3 a.m., lights a cigarette, and comes face to face with a being made of shadow and starlight. That's just one chapter in the extraordinary story of Drew Bankey — Iraq War veteran, Lakota sundancer, pipe carrier, and self-described channeler of entities including Osiris, Archangel Michael, and what he calls "Source" itself. In this conversation, Drew traces his path from PTSD and ayahuasca ceremonies to spontaneous channeling, dream prophecies that came true down to the day, and a face-to-face ET encounter that changed the direction of his life. We cover: how a second ayahuasca ceremony "blasted him into the spirit world" and opened the door to channeling; a golden eagle dream from 2017 that manifested — literally — nine days before his birthday on the side of a Colorado road; a Native American Yuwipi ceremony where a Bigfoot reportedly materialized in a sealed, pitch-black room, witnessed by another attendee; and his theory that UFO disclosure isn't a revelation about "aliens" at all, but about a future version of ourselves.Whether you come from a background in psychedelic therapy, indigenous spirituality, trauma recovery, or the UFO conversation, this episode sits at the intersection of all of it — and asks what it actually means to reconnect with something larger than yourself. If this conversation moved you, subscribe and leave a comment with the moment that hit hardest — and check the description for Drew's books and community.Find Drew: Sacred Journeys Within — his books "I'm Perfect And So Are You" and "Find Your Inner Guru" are available now.#Ayahuasca #Channeling #UFODisclosure #NativeAmericanSpirituality #Consciousness

Mindfulness can be helpful, but ultimately the mind seeks some positive engagement. According to the Vedic process, which is what we follow, there are various categories of philosophy under a sage named Dvaipāyana Vyāsadeva. We follow the Vedic process, which can be understood in the summary study of all the Vedas, called the Bhagavad-gītā. Therein is a hint of the best way to engage the mind, which is in relationship—not emptying the mind, or not just stilling the mind, but engaging the mind in a relationship. We may note that throughout human and even animal society, living beings have a vested interest in relationships. You can notice butterflies, even after they are born, consorting with one another. Birds are famous for building a little love nest; they work together, the male and female bird, to pick up straw and build a nest. Humans, you can see, going to and from Home Depot doing something similar. But the point there is not to build something, but to have a place where one can be in relationship. So, in the process of bhakti-yoga—or I could say, the great teacher of bhakti-yoga, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu laid out the tenets of bhakti-yoga that we follow even today. He pointed out that the Bhagavad-gītā and the other explanations of the Vedas, the consolidation or the essentialization of the Vedas in the Bhagavad-gītā and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, point us towards the highest form of engagement of the mind, which is called devotional service. It's underlying principle is that we all have a loving propensity. When the mind is absorbed in the idea of service out of love, then it's completely satisfied. All other states leave us wanting, and those other states are not stable; they may shift from one point to another. There is a word that comes from Latin: "enthralment." "En" means "in," and "thrall" means "to be imprisoned." When we say we are enthralled by something, we are utterly captured by it. In the positive sense of that imprisonment, there's a way in which the mind can be captured. Another word that expresses a similar concept is "rapture," which means to be fully absorbed in a topic. Well, the Bhagavad-gītā and the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam point out that we are most interested in love and loving relationships. Therefore, in the essentialization of the process of bhakti-yoga, there is a system by which we can express that loving emotion that we have and connect with the object of love that is unlimitedly satisfying. The operating model implication is clear: AI deployment is now fundamentally an organizational redesign challenge, not a software procurement exercise. Companies winning with AI are restructuring workflows, flattening management, embedding engineering into operations, and accelerating decision cycles. The largest leadership execution risk is cognitive overload at the executive layer. Teams are shrinking while ambiguity, pace, and strategic complexity are increasing simultaneously. Highest leverage focus area today: Redesign decision systems before scaling AI systems. https://www.breakfastleadership.com/
A first reading of the Rāsa Līlā might suggest the gopīs' love is selfish, irresponsible, even unethical. But looking closer one can find the highest transcendence attained not through grinding austerity but through love so real and complete that everything else simply fell away. In this episode Raghunath and Kaustubha arrive at Canto Ten, Chapter Thirty-Three — the Rāsa Dance itself. Krishna expands between each pair of gopīs. The demigods crowd the sky. The gopīs sing, creating sixteen thousand musical ragas. Rādhārāṇī, tired from the dance, places her arm around Krishna's shoulder. His arm carries the fragrance of blue lotus and sandalwood. Her hair stands on end. She kisses his arm. This beautiful scene is what Vyāsadeva was told to meditate on and share with the world.
