Host Malcolm Harris kicks off a spooky edition of WHAT THE TRUCK?!? live from Chattanooga, Tennessee, diving into some of the biggest stories shaping trucking and logistics. First up, OOIDA Executive Vice President Lewie Pugh joins the show to react to Secretary Duffy's fiery comments on driver qualification standards and language proficiency. Lewie breaks down the long-running myth of the “driver shortage,” calling it a cover for low pay, poor training, and unsafe working conditions. He lays out OOIDA's priorities—from codifying DOT rules into law to passing the Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act—and challenges lawmakers to finally put people over profits. Next, Greg Braun, CRO and cofounder of C3 Solutions, celebrates 25 years of innovation while discussing their new C3 Hive platform. Despite a surprise fire alarm mid-interview, Greg powers through to explain how C3 Hive connects shippers, carriers, and yard operators in real time—reducing dwell time, streamlining communication, and using AI to optimize dock and yard management. Finally, Veer Junja, USC alum and cofounder of Fleetline, joins from San Francisco to share how his startup is empowering carrier planners with AI-driven optimization. Drawing from his debate background and family ties to trucking, Veer discusses how Fleetline uses algorithmic planning to boost efficiency and cut deadhead, helping carriers thrive in any market cycle.

Do you like local cricket? Then get ready for it, this is the podcast that shows what really happens when normal people take the game way too seriously. First, we talk about practice! The place where everyone tries to look serious, but someone always forgets a bat, drops the ball, or trips over their own feet. It's where skills are not needed, friendships are built, and laughter is guaranteed. Then comes matchday, the nerves, the pressure, and the big moments when everything can change in one ball. Will the bowler hit the stumps? Will the batter smash a six? Will someone run the wrong way? You'll hear the highs, the lows, and the surprises that only cricket can bring. Finally, we look at the chats after the game, the debates, the jokes, and the stories that make local cricket special. Local Cricket is one podcast a whole lot laughing for anyone who's ever picked up a bat or ball. There's no shortage of stories where customers go crazy for free giveaways at the supermarket - and one expert has revealed why this is the case. Between coffee shops offering a free drink after you've bought 10 or beauty retailers handing out samples if you spend enough, research has explained this is all another marketing trick to hook people in. University of Canterbury marketing professor Ekant Veer says people like to feel like they've won things, especially if they're free. "We feel like we're getting rewarded for our loyalty or rewarded for our good behaviour, and then it's going to work for us. We're going to get that little dopamine hit." Today's interview is with Annette Franz, an author, speaker and founder and CEO of CX Journey Inc. She is also an old friend of the podcast and appeared back in 2019. She joins me today to talk about her new book: Employee Understanding: A Three-Pillar Framework for Designing a Great Experience and Driving Business Success, the difference between employee engagement and employee experience, the time that Annette was working at JD Power & Assocs and W. Earl Sasser, Jr. and Leonard Schlesinger (both from Harvard and two of the authors of Putting the Service Profit Chain to Work) came to their office and what leaders should do first if they want to design and deliver a great employee experience. This interview follows on from my recent interview – Without context, an insight is worth nothing – Interview with Jochem van der Veer of TheyDo – and is number 546 in the series of interviews with authors and business leaders who are doing great things, providing valuable insights, helping businesses innovate and delivering great service and experience to both their customers and their employees.

Today's interview is with Jochem van der Veer, the Co-Founder and CEO of TheyDo, a leading platform for journey management that helps organisations build seamless customer experiences by aligning teams around the customer journey. We discuss customer journeys, journey mapping, and data, highlighting how businesses risk exacerbating data overwhelm if they don't rethink their approach. Additionally, we explore the finding that 41% of business leaders rarely involve other departments in data-driven decisions. This interview follows on from my recent interview – Voice still reigns in customer service – Interview with Nikola Mrkšić of PolyAI – and is number 545 in the series of interviews with authors and business leaders who are doing great things, providing valuable insights, helping businesses innovate and delivering great service and experience to both their customers and their employees.

What happens when customer journeys fall apart behind the scenes, even as AI promises to tie them together? That's the question at the heart of this conversation with Jochem van der Veer, CEO and Co-Founder of TheyDo. Fresh off a $30 million Series B round, Jochem joins me to unpack what's really happening inside enterprise organisations that are trying to personalise experiences at scale. He's not speaking in theory. TheyDo is already helping companies like Ford, Atlassian, Cisco, and Home Depot shift how they approach customer experience. But instead of chasing the latest automation trend, Jochem urges something far more grounded: a return to clarity. His team's journey-centric model is designed to bring strategic alignment across departments that are often flying blind, each chasing their own targets without shared context. We talk about the growing gap between data collection and meaningful insight. While leaders are promised efficiency from AI, many find themselves with more dashboards and fewer answers. In fact, 28 percent say AI is actually worsening the problem by adding to the noise. That's the paradox. Jochem shares how journey management can break through these barriers and get teams back on track by focusing on what customers are trying to achieve rather than just what departments are measuring. You'll hear why so many personalisation efforts are falling flat, despite all the data, and how a few structural shifts could change that. Jochem also reflects on what the hidden costs of a disconnected experience look like and how businesses can spot trouble before it becomes visible in churn or lost revenue. This episode is for anyone frustrated by the growing complexity of customer experience. If you're stuck between data overload and underwhelming results, you'll find plenty of perspective here. And if you've ever wondered whether AI is helping or just making your job harder, this conversation might help you reframe the question. To learn more about TheyDo, visit theydo.com or connect with Jochem on LinkedIn.
Cristobal Tapia de Veer on instinct, tension, and walking away from The White LotusIt‘s not often I have a guest on the show primarily known for scorring for screen but the outspoken, punk-rock ethosed, voice-warping composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer is so Lost and Sound it hurts. Whether it's the unnerving soundworld of Utopia, the chaotic beauty of The White Lotus, or the warped voices of A24‘s Babygirl, his scores don't just sit behind the picture—they shape how you feel it.In this conversation, we talk about how some of his most striking ideas come in a flash. How one of The White Lotus‘ most memoral earworms: “took me the time it takes you to listen to it,” he says. “I feel like somebody else did it for me.”We get into why scoring the show felt like “trying on a yellow dress,” and how stepping into unfamiliar territory let him bring something raw and unexpected to it. He's honest about how uncomfortable that space was—and how that discomfort helped him land something sharper.Cristobal opens up about working in an industry that often pulls in the opposite direction of intuition. We talk about trusting the subconscious, letting go of control, and how stepping back sometimes allows something better to come through. We also touch on his recent public split from The White Lotus—and the bigger questions that come when creativity and power don't align. If you're interested in how a politically minded Iggy Pop fan became one of the most highly revered film and TV composers working right now, or just curious about what it takes to stay true to your instincts inside a system that often doesn't want you to, this one's worth your time.If you're enjoying Lost and Sound, please do subscribe and leave a rating or review on Apple, Spotify, Amazon, or wherever you listen. I'm interrupting my series on the Medieval Crusades to think with you about the question, why do Christian Colleges always slide to the Theological (and with that, Cultural) Left? I listened to a recent Theology Pugcasters podcast episode and they really got me to thinking. I add my own reflections and experiences to their insightful analysis. Then, because the Roman Catholic Church has elected a new Pope I reflect on the prospects of a Pope Leo XIV papacy. Who is he? He's from America but how American is he really? Why did the Cardinals vote him in after only 3 votes? Why do I—yes and amen—want him to be an advocate for the planet's disenfranchised populations?! Along the way I also reflect on a recent vivid X.com picture I saw and tie that into a reflection about Elon Musk now having sired 12 children. What is unique about that? What does it say about where society is headed? Come think and laugh with me.
I got hip to Cristobal's work thanks to my recent TV addiction. I inhaled all 3 seasons of the white lotus and I think I was only able to get so greedy because of the EXCELLENT music. I usually get repelled by TV scores tnh. I feel like I know the tricks and the tones and the emotional devices and I end up paying attention to them in a bad way. My agitation stops me from getting swept up and carried away. Not so with this man's work. I just felt like it was so deeply connected to the lands and the mystery and power of our animalistic shadows that ride in the narrative. I was taken aback and taken away. It's been a long time since I found myself loving a soundtrack. I had to know more and thankfully Cristobal (I butcher his name in the pod btw to my shame!) has been fantastic to chat with. I reached out, we set a date to chat and it just flowed. I love that. Hope you enjoy the fascinating insights he shares. He's so humble about his ways but he clearly is no pushover, knowing what he believes in and fighting for that. I loved this hang. Hope it gets to all to at least buy a shaker if you don't own one!
