For the 102nd episode of Creative Mood, I'm thrilled to unveil my conversation with Emmy Award–winning composer Cristobal Tapia De Veer, recorded live at M for Montreal's 20th anniversary, presented in collaboration with Billboard Canada, within the framework of SuperVISION.I had the honour of co-hosting this live conversation alongside Heather Adamo of Vapor Music, in front of a packed room of industry professionals from around the world.Cristóbal's work on The White Lotus, Utopia, Black Mirror, Babylon Berlin and National Treasure treats music as an integral part of the storytelling, not just a background element.In this conversation, we retrace his early life, from his childhood and his parents' work, to how those influences shaped his worldview growing up in Chile. We explore his first steps into music through various bands, his early fascination with evolving technologies, and how those tools expanded his creative language. From there, we move into his current body of work and the philosophy that underpins his uncompromising approach to composition.Moments like this mean a great deal to me. I'm interrupting my series on the Medieval Crusades to think with you about the question, why do Christian Colleges always slide to the Theological (and with that, Cultural) Left? I listened to a recent Theology Pugcasters podcast episode and they really got me to thinking. I add my own reflections and experiences to their insightful analysis. Then, because the Roman Catholic Church has elected a new Pope I reflect on the prospects of a Pope Leo XIV papacy. Who is he? He's from America but how American is he really? Why did the Cardinals vote him in after only 3 votes? Why do I—yes and amen—want him to be an advocate for the planet's disenfranchised populations?! Along the way I also reflect on a recent vivid X.com picture I saw and tie that into a reflection about Elon Musk now having sired 12 children. What is unique about that? What does it say about where society is headed? Come think and laugh with me.

I got hip to Cristobal's work thanks to my recent TV addiction.  I inhaled all 3 seasons of the white lotus and I think I was only able to get so greedy because of the EXCELLENT music.  I usually get repelled by TV scores tnh. I feel like I know the tricks and the tones and the emotional devices and I end up paying attention to them in a bad way. My agitation stops me from getting swept up and carried away. Not so with this man's work.  I just felt like it was so deeply connected to the lands and the mystery and power of our animalistic shadows that ride in the narrative. I was taken aback and taken away.  It's been a long time since I found myself loving a soundtrack. I had to know more and thankfully Cristobal (I butcher his name in the pod btw to my shame!) has been fantastic to chat with. I reached out, we set a date to chat and it just flowed. I love that.  Hope you enjoy the fascinating insights he shares. He's so humble about his ways but he clearly is no pushover, knowing what he believes in and fighting for that.  I loved this hang.
