There is a lot happening in Alabama sports right now, and this video hits the biggest storylines from both basketball and football. We start with the controversy at Auburn, where Bruce Pearl retired in September 2025 and Steven Pearl took over as head coach, a move that has sparked heavy criticism over nepotism. ESPN reported Bruce's retirement and Steven's succession last fall, and that debate has resurfaced this week with Paul Finebaum calling Bruce Pearl's public comments about helping his son get the job “pretty embarrassing.” From there, we turn to the SEC Tournament, where Alabama is sitting in a strong position in Nashville. The official bracket has Alabama on the double-bye line, while the tournament runs March 11–15 at Bridgestone Arena. That sets up a huge opportunity for the Crimson Tide to make a deep run while the rest of the league fights through the early rounds. Then it is over to Alabama football spring practice, where one of the biggest storylines is the quarterback competition between Keelon Russell and Austin Mack. On3 highlighted that battle as one of the top spring questions for the Tide, while also noting that wide receiver Ryan Williams is now going by Ryan Coleman-Williams. 247Sports also reflected the updated name and the quarterback storyline in its recent Alabama spring coverage. We also dig into the bigger concern around Alabama's offense: experience. With spring practice underway, there is real attention on the rebuilt offensive line and how quickly the new-look unit can come together around whichever quarterback wins the job. That is the kind of issue that can define Alabama's ceiling in 2026. Finally, we zoom out to the national college sports picture, where Nick Saban and Urban Meyer were both part of a recent high-profile White House roundtable focused on issues facing college athletics, including NIL and the broader structure of the sport. That makes this conversation bigger than just Alabama and Auburn, because the entire model of college sports is still shifting in real time. This is a very humorous story of how I strongarmed the Utah State Legislature into paying for HIV/AIDS medication during the intensely homophobic Bush years. Even though all my friends in the Democratic minority made it clear to me that I had a snowball's chance of hell of succeeding.I wasn't so sure my goals were quite that unattainable. I had one very powerful tool most democratic politicians in Utah did not possess, NEPOTISM!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/i-woke-up-this-gay/donations

It was coined in a 1958 novel written by the British social scientist Michael Young. In the dystopia that Young imagined, the old order has been overthrown and replaced with a tyrannical system obsessed with merit. Today's guest not only joins Young in his critique of meritocracy, he also takes a further bold step in endorsing some extremely old fashioned ideas about wealth, family, and legacy. In an age when celebrities routinely boast about their plans to disinherit their children and leave them to fend for themselves financially, Johann Kurtz makes a counter-cultural argument for nepotism. Do not give your money to charity, he says. Do not encourage your children to launch themselves into the meritocratic rat race. Learn, instead, from the ancient practices of aristocrats who had very different ideas about how to cultivate virtue in their descendants. Kurtz is the author of the 'Becoming Noble' Substack. It's another day living with tens of millions of third-world Indians stealing American jobs, careers, citizenship, and resources—and therefore it's another day of learning that everything Indians is based on traditional third-world fraud, ethno-fascist nepotism, and vicious clan-centric self-serving exploitation of “others.”Spoiler: the “others” being exploited are YOU and ME and EVERY OTHER tax paying (e.g., white) American citizen.

Want to donate to our non-profit newsroom? CLICK HERE Who we are Block Club Chicago is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit news organization dedicated to delivering reliable, relevant and nonpartisan coverage of Chicago's diverse neighborhoods. We believe all neighborhoods deserve to be covered in a meaningful way. We amplify positive stories, cover development and local school council meetings and serve as watchdogs in neighborhoods often ostracized by traditional news media. Ground-level coverage Our neighborhood-based reporters don't parachute in once to cover a story. They are in the neighborhoods they cover every day building relationships over time with neighbors. We believe this ground-level approach not only builds community but leads to a more accurate portrayal of a neighborhood. Stories that matter to you — every day Since our launch five years ago, we've published more than 25,000 stories from the neighborhoods, covered hundreds of community meetings and send daily and neighborhood newsletters to more than 130,000 Chicagoans. We've built this loyalty by proving to folks we are not only covering their neighborhoods, we are a part of them. Some of us have internalized the national media's narrative of a broken Chicago. We aim to change that by celebrating our neighborhoods and chronicling the resilience of the people who fight every day to make Chicago a better place for all.
