    In this episode, Women Arise founder Neelley Hicks talks with Revi Sterling, PhD., director of the USAID W-GDP WomenConnect Challenge. The Challenge addresses the social norms that keep women and girls offline and focuses on the use of technology to create new social norms that empower women. Before the WomenConnect Challenge, Revi was Chief of Party at NetHope and directed the Women and the Web Alliance, a private public partnership with USAID, Intel, NetHope, World Vision, World Pulse, and UN Women. Prior to these positions, Revi founded and directed the first Information and Communications Technology for Development professional master's program in the United States at the University of Colorado Boulder. Prior to academia, Revi spent a decade at Microsoft Research, spearheading efforts in gender equity in computer science as well as working as a software engineer and program manager in the Emerging Technologies division. She serves on leading gender and technology boards, has testified before the U.S. Congress about the need for more women in the technical workforce, and consults extensively for foundations, development agencies, and high technology companies on using information and communications technology to empower women and marginalized populations. Revi holds a Ph.D. in Media, Technology, and Society from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She has been recognized by USAID for her gender activism and is the recipient of the Anita Borg Institute Women of Vision award for Social Impact and the 2019 Impact.Engineered Award for Women in Technology.
