The band recently released a new single titled "Candy" and has been making waves in the local music scene since their formation in early 2022. Dream the Heavy expressed their gratitude for the recognition, stating that they never imagined being recognized as top-rated in a city filled with so many incredible artists and creators. They credit their success to a combination of the right chemistry, hard work, significant investment in their craft, and a bit of luck. This recognition, voted on by their supporters, means the world to the band as they continue to pursue their passion for creating music that reflects life, love, and hope. Our goal with this podcast has always been to stop the stigma surrounding mental health, to normalize the conversation and to share stories so people feel less alone. Often men's mental health is stigmatized even more than women, but the truth is we all struggle and all need help. When we recorded this episode it was in November, which was Movemeber: Men's Mental Health month. We love that there is a specific month to put the spotlight on men's mental health, but it is a topic that we should be talking about all year long. Eric shares his journey from childhood to present day. This is a story of resilience, broken cycles of abuse, vulnerability, asking for help, and rising above adversity. The tools he uses are ones that many resist because of their background, upbringing, or beliefs, but Eric shares with us how therapy and medication truly changed his life.  Taking care of our mental health day to day, when tragedy strikes, when we are broken down, when we are in crisis, or all of the above is hard to do. We hope that Eric's story can bring you hope, encouragement, and feel less alone. Also…be sure to check out Eric and his band, The Altered Egos  incredible music (which you hear in this episode) and their Instagram. Jeff Berlin is one of the most innovative electric bassists of the 20th and current centuries.  Known for his unique tone, jaw dropping technique and dynamic approaches to the bass, he's helped establish the electric bass as a solo instrument well deserving of its place in modern music.  He's released a dozen solo albums and you'll also find him on albums by Herbie Mann, Patti Austin, Ester Phillips - and many others.  Award-winning program director Ray White caught up with Jeff in November of 2022, who shared stories which established himself as an elite musician and also talked about his latest album, Jack Songs.  In our showcase segment Lisa Davis features saxophonist Will Donato whose latest single, Good On You, spent 3 weeks at the top of Billboard's Smooth Jazz charts.  Lisa also features the latest from consummate drummer Jae Sinnett, who's released numerous albums with the latest being Altered Egos.  His new single is Another View.  Bass...Sax...Drums on the Coool CAT!

In 2017 I reached out to Jonathan Bates, owner of Altered Egos, a local comic shop. I did not know Jonathan, but asked if I could host a Bible study in his shop because I found some clear allusions in pop culture and comic heroes to biblical theology. Jonathan told me up front he was not a Christian, so a Bible study would not be happening, but he was intrigued by the concept of conversing on this subject. Three years later, we now look back at what has become a monthly meeting called CHAT (Costumed Heroes and Theology.) It has become a monthly highlight for me to engage in these conversations. Perhaps our conversation here about the launch and growth of CHAT can be helpful for others as well. I mention the Altered Egos podcast as well. You can listen to Jonathan's weekly updates as well.
