The Unqualified Therapists Inc. podcast is an absolute gem that I stumbled upon thanks to a friend's recommendation. From the very first episode, I was hooked and have been thoroughly enjoying it ever since. The content of this podcast is absolutely amazing, providing valuable insights and thought-provoking discussions on various mental health topics. Amy and Sarah, the hosts of the show, are simply fantastic. They are straightforward, funny, engaging, and make you feel like you're having a conversation with close friends.
One of the best aspects of The Unqualified Therapists Inc. podcast is the genuine and relatable nature of the conversations. Amy and Sarah dive deep into important mental health issues such as depression and anxiety but also cover a wide range of other topics such as grief, love after loss, gaslighting, and the pandemic's impact on healthcare workers. They provide a safe space for listeners to reflect on their own experiences while offering helpful insights and advice.
Another great aspect of this podcast is how it opens up conversations that many people may not have had before listening to it. Amy and Sarah's honest discussions often touch upon topics that resonate with listeners on a personal level but may have been difficult to address or discuss openly before. This creates a sense of connection and understanding among listeners that is truly powerful.
However, one critique I do have about The Unqualified Therapists Inc. podcast is related to its background music. While personal preferences may vary, I find that at times the background music can be somewhat distracting and takes away from fully absorbing the conversations. It pulls me out of really engaging with what is being said and can hinder my overall experience.
In conclusion, despite my minor criticism regarding the background music, I wholeheartedly love The Unqualified Therapists Inc. podcast. Amy and Sarah are incredible hosts who provide valuable insights into mental health issues while maintaining an entertaining atmosphere filled with humor and honesty. This podcast has had a significant impact on my life, opening my eyes to new perspectives and helping me reflect on my own journey. I highly recommend giving it a listen and joining the ranks of those who have benefited from the wisdom and authenticity of these amazing ladies.
Pittsburgh most loved neighbor, Mr. Rogers, just posthumously celebrated what would have been his 96th birthday this past week. As a tribute, we wanted to re-share this beautiful conversation with two of our favorite neighbors, Ryan & Gregg. Two of Pittsburgh's kindest men, Ryan Rydzewski and Gregg Behr, join us to talk about what we love most: learning how to be better humans. Their book, When You Wonder You're Learning, centers itself around America's favorite neighbor, Fred Rogers. As Gregg's role model, Mister Rogers holds that title for so many others as well as holding a special place in countless people's hearts, including ours. Fred's philosophies, use of science, and genuine kindness made him a safe and magical being. So magical in fact, that everything he taught us, the blueprints he left for us, are more relevant now than ever before proving time holds no bounds on love. So grab a cardigan (and possibly some tissues), cozy up, and listen in as we slow down long enough to embrace the lessons that have been laid in front of us for over 50 years. Our Guests: Gregg Behr is a father, children's advocate, and director for the Grable Foundation whose work is inspired by his hero, Fred Rogers. For more than a decade, he has helped lead Remake Learning—a network of educators, scientists, artists, and makers he founded in 2007—to international renown. Formed in Rogers' real-life neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Remake Learning has turned heads everywhere from Forbes to the World Economic Forum for its efforts to ignite children's curiosity, encourage creativity, and foster justice and belonging in schools, libraries, museums, and more. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame and also Duke University, Gregg holds honorary degrees from Carlow University and Saint Vincent College. He's an advisor to the Brookings Institution and the Fred Rogers Center, and has been cited by Barack Obama, Richard Branson, and the Disruptor Foundation as an innovator and thought leader. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, he taught elementary school in south Louisiana before earning an MFA in nonfiction writing from Chatham University. As we take some time for Amy to recover from surgery and prepare for our conversation around Purity culture (yikes!) we felt it was important to revisit this conversation with Sex and Relationship Expert Lauren Joyce. We have “The Qualified” back on pod this episode! Dr. Katie joins us to discuss the Netflix docuseries American Nightmare, which tells the true story of Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn. This is a wild story where the truth is stranger than fiction. The police initially did not believe Aaron's report of Denise's kidnapping, leading to victim blaming and confirmation bias. Then they didn't believe Denise when she returned and explained the story of her kidnapping. Why aren't victims believed? We don't solve that one, but have a few ideas. This is a difficult story with no real answers, but we are grateful for the police officer who solved this case and brought justice for Denise and Aaron. We love you Warriors! Amy & Sarah Takeaways Confirmation bias can lead to victim blaming and a failure to believe victims' accounts of traumatic events. Trauma can cause a variety of reactions, and there is no one 'correct' way for a victim to behave. The impact of trauma and personality issues on behavior is complex and requires further study. Denial and lack of information can contribute to a lack of understanding and empathy for victims. Please help us continue to make these podcasts. We need your support. Our goal with this podcast has always been to stop the stigma surrounding mental health, to normalize the conversation and to share stories so people feel less alone. Often men's mental health is stigmatized even more than women, but the truth is we all struggle and all need help. When we recorded this episode it was in November, which was Movemeber: Men's Mental Health month. We love that there is a specific month to put the spotlight on men's mental health, but it is a topic that we should be talking about all year long. Eric shares his journey from childhood to present day. This is a story of resilience, broken cycles of abuse, vulnerability, asking for help, and rising above adversity. The tools he uses are ones that many resist because of their background, upbringing, or beliefs, but Eric shares with us how therapy and medication truly changed his life. Taking care of our mental health day to day, when tragedy strikes, when we are broken down, when we are in crisis, or all of the above is hard to do. We hope that Eric's story can bring you hope, encouragement, and feel less alone. Also…be sure to check out Eric and his band, The Altered Egos incredible music (which you hear in this episode) and their Instagram. Happy 2024 Warriors! Resolutions are hard to keep; they can feel big and overwhelming. They often cause us to feel like we failed, which can often lead us to sadness, depression, or anxiety. And we don't need anymore things in our lives to make us feel that way! “In and Out lists” are something fun we came across on social media and decided to try ourselves. We got reflective and deep on some and a little silly on others, but that is the point–have fun with it. What do YOU want more of for this year? What can you let go of and what do YOU want less of? As we get older, it is challenging to create new authentic friendships and relationships. Where do we meet them? What do we talk about? What questions do we ask to get the conversation going? How do we push through the awkward? What happens if it isn't an instant connection? We all need connection and community. There are healthy ways to do that regardless of whether you are an introvert or extrovert. We get into it with Michele Colella from the Beauty Boost Pittsburgh and she shares her expertise with us. You will definitely take away some tips and tricks from Michele's experience. A little information about our guest: Michele Colella is the City Owner of The Beauty Boost Pittsburgh, a vibrant community for those who identify as women to become their most healthy, empowered, and beautiful selves through regular events and activities–from fitness sessions to empowerment and entrepreneur workshops, social gatherings, and weekend retreat getaways–creating opportunities for personal growth, genuine connection, and a good time. With over 100 active small business collaborations and a community and event attendee base of over 1,000, The Beauty Boost is reshaping how women in Pittsburgh connect. Michele, a former fitness competitor and health and life coach with over a decade of counseling experience, found herself at a transitional point. Grappling with career changes, a breakup, and outgrown friendships, she yearned for friendship with like-minded women and took a brave step by attending a coffee meet-up she found online alone. The Beauty Boost hosted that meetup, and Michele walked away with more than she could have imagined. She took ownership of the Pittsburgh chapter, one of 25 nationwide, within two years of her first experience. Michele's journey from member to owner underscores one of her strongest beliefs: monumental change often starts with small, courageous steps. She rekindled her passion for empowering women to create joy-filled, healthy lives. She fell back in love with fitness, food, and life through her own personal journey. She did things that scared her–things she didn't think she was strong enough to do–and discovered she was more than capable. Michele began living in her authentic self. Happy Thanksgiving Warriors! Do you remember our Reality Bites segments we used to do? We loved them, miss them, and are bringing them back! They are short little conversations about life, the good and bad. Sometimes we share funny stories, sometimes we share bits of inspiration and other times we talk pop culture. This Reality Bites is all about gratitude. Being thankful for the things we have in our lives really does make a difference. We are grateful for all of YOU. Thank you for supporting and listening to our podcast over the last 3 years! If you would rather watch this episode, check it out on our YouTube channel. XO, Amy and Sarah
Hi Warriors! We are dropping this episode early so that you can listen as you travel for Thanksgiving, while you are cooking, or just relaxing. We want you to have all the tools in your toolbox to combat any struggles that can creep up around food and diet culture. The stories we tell ourselves in our head, the indirect messaging, and direct messaging about food can really mess with us. It seems that even those of us who have done the work to heal our relationship with food and our weight can still get triggered. These triggers can happen at any time during the year, but the holiday season is often a time where they are amplified. Dr. Natalie Gentile, Board Certified Family and Lifestyle Medicine Physician and self proclaimed Healthcare Disruptor shares with us some tips on how to take care of our mind and body this holiday season. Dr. Natalie is a wealth of knowledge and has such a unique perspective as someone who is a Weight Neutral Direct Primary Care Provider. Sarah and I learned so much in this conversation. We will be taking these tips with us into all the festivities over the next two months and hope you find some that resonated with you too. We all want to be our best selves and reach our goals. We want connection and purpose in our lives. It can be a hard and lonely road with a lot of speed bumps and wrong turns. Ashley Sumner, the CEO and founder of Liminal, talks with us about a modern coaching platform she created to support people to unlock their full potential. For Sarah and I, when we hear the word coach, we automatically put our guard up in the same way as when we hear the word MLM. Of course we were hesitant, but we are always open to listening to someone's story. Ashley shares with us that she is working to destigmatize the idea of having a coach by vetting each coach and putting parameters around the process. One of the most fascinating aspects of Liminal is that they match you with a coach based on your specific needs. This isn't the first time that Ashley has been interested in matchmaking. Be sure to stay until the end of the episode where Ashley tells us her story of how she became a real life matchmaker early in her career. We hope you enjoy our conversation with Ashley as she shares another possible tool for your mental health tool box. Xo, Amy & Sarah Learn more about Liminal on their website. Follow Liminal on Instagram and Linkedin. A little more information about Ashley: Born with a driving purpose to inspire transformation in others, she's dedicated over 15 years to forging connections as a founder, community builder, experience designer, and romantic matchmaker. Her previous stints include NeueHouse, Wanderlust, Primary Stages and Breakout. Wanting to drive greater impact and build more accessible communities, Ashley launched Quilt in 2017, a social marketplace that took root by empowering homeowners across the United States to host supportive community conversations in their homes. In 2020, Quilt quickly evolved into a mental health focused social audio app that helped over one-hundred thousand people get through the pandemic. Ashley is a lifelong seeker dedicated to the practice of self-exploration with the help of wellness practitioners, healers, and therapists from all corners of the world. Her latest venture connects her professional expertise in matchmaking with her passion for healing. Launched in April of 2023, Liminal matches people with hand-picked wellness guides for self exploration. Find all things UTI here. Have a story to share? Contact us here. September is Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month. Suicide is something people don't talk about often or enough. Here at the Unqualified Therapists, we talk about it often, not just in September, but all year long. It is important to normalize the emotions one has when they experience suicidal ideations. It is important to normalize the word suicide, saying it out loud doesn't make it happen more, but actually does the opposite. It is important that those struggling and those who have lost loved ones to suicide know they are not alone, the are NOT the only ones. The stigma still stands, but things are getting better. In this episode, I share my experience at the “Out of the Darkness Walk” in Pittsburgh this month. It gave me some hope that one day the stigma will be shattered and that we can openly talk about the darkest days of our lives. On the AFSP (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention) website it says, “Talk Away the Dark. Talking is the first step to preventing suicide.” And so we talk and talk and talk even when people try to make us stop. It's been a year since my own suicidal ideation and regardless of the repercussions, I am proud that I shared and talked about it with all of you. I have no regrets. Sarah and I started the podcast for the main reason of talking about the dark stuff that no one wants to talk about so we all feel less alone. And that is what we do. We know it's a heavy topic and that is okay, but because we are us, we of course have to throw in some ridiculousness. Listen in as we discuss the new term “bed rotting”, missing out on possibly the show of our life with Aerosmith, and which one of us has zero interest in NSYNC. We love you and are so happy you are here. If you are in a tough time right now, know it will get better. Sometimes we meet people once and we immediately know they are “our people.” That is how Sarah and I both felt after our first time on “Talk Pittsburgh” with Heather Abraham. We connected with her in a real way during a quick six minute segment. Heather is as kind, as real, and as intelligent in real life as she comes across on TV. She interviews multiple guests on both “Pittsburgh Today Live” AND “Talk Pittsburgh” every single day. We had to know just how she does it. How does she stay present for all of those chats each day? How does she not feel overwhelmed by all that goes on in our world? Heather shares with us the answer to those questions and so much more! This conversation ebbs and flows from deep mental health discussions to the lighter topics of shopping for all of the different outfits she wears on television. Just like the best conversations with your friends, this one covers ALL the topics and is filled with laughter and honesty. We had a hard time ending our chat so you can listen to the full two hours, unedited, on our Patreon Channel. Xo, Amy & Sarah Check out or Sponsor, Magic Mind. When big things happen to us, we beat cancer or we lose our husband, we BECOME a “Cancer Survivor” and a “Widow.” How long do we carry that name tag around? Is it always going to be at the top of the list when describing ourselves? Sometimes when tragedy occurs we become it because it is the biggest thing in our lives for the time being. It changes us in ways nothing else can. It affects the way others treat and view us. It affects the way we see ourselves. Sarah and I talk about it openly in this episode because we asked the question recently while talking off air, “Are we our Trauma?” It made us pause for a moment and then led to, if we aren't, who are we? We know many of our listeners have had just as big and just as life altering events happen in their lives so we hope this conversation helps with the processing of who you are “after.” Xo, Amy & Sarah Check out or Sponsor, Magic Mind. “Hi Barbie!” Have you seen the Barbie movie yet? We did and wow, there is a lot to say about it. Dr. Katie joins us to discuss all things “Barbie” Movie. The patriarchy, how we viewed Barbie as young girls, and the emotions we felt seeing our lives as women on the big screen. We all shed tears, laughed out loud and we are all changed women for seeing this movie. We would love to know what you thought? You know the drill, leave a voicemail here, send a DM @unqualifiedtherapists or an email unqualifiedtherapists@gmail.com For real…tell us. We missed you SO MUCH! Thank you for giving us grace for our unplanned time off. It was necessary, but we are thrilled to be back. xo, Amy & Sarah We will leave you with the quote of the year, the decade, and the century by America Ferrera: “It is literally impossible to be a woman. You are so beautiful and so smart, and it kills me that you think you're not good enough. Like we always have to be extraordinary, but somehow we're always doing it wrong. We have to be thin, but not too thin. And you can never say you want to be thin. You have to say you want to be healthy, but also you have to be thin. You have to have money, but you can't ask for money, because that's crass. You have to be a boss, but you can't be mean. You have to lead, but you can't squash other people's ideas. You're supposed to love being a mother, but don't talk about your kids all the damn time. You have to be a career woman, but also always be looking out for other people. You have to answer for men's bad behavior, which is insane, but if you point that out, you're accused of complaining. You're supposed to stay pretty for men, but not so pretty that you tempt them too much or that you threaten other women because you're supposed to be a part of the sisterhood. But always stand out and always be grateful. You have to never get old, never be rude, never show off, never be selfish, never fall down, never fail, never show fear, never get out of line. It's too hard! It's too contradictory and nobody gives you a medal or says thank you! And it turns out in fact that not only are you doing everything wrong, but also everything is your fault. I'm just so tired of watching myself and every single other woman tie herself into knots so that people will like us. And if all of that is also true for a doll just representing women, then I don't even know.” Check out or Sponsor, Magic Mind. We are SO EXCITED to share our conversation with you about the Enneagram. Jessi loves a good personality test and shares with us her knowledge on a personal favorite. According to Truity, “The Enneagram is a system of personality typing that describes patterns in how people interpret the world and manage their emotions. The Enneagram describes nine personality types and maps each of these types on a nine-pointed diagram which helps to illustrate how the types relate to one another”. If you have never heard of the Enneagram or perhaps want a refresher, Jessi breaks down all 9 personality types in this Enneagram 101 discussion. Along with a short description of each, you get to hear from each of us about our own number on the Enneagram. Are you curious about your type? You can take the test that Jessi suggests here. Learning about our own personality helps us to grow and evolve. Learning about the personality of our family, friends, partners, co-workers etc. can help us to manage conflict more effectively. That conversation will be in Part 2! Xo, Amy & Sarah Check out or Sponsor, Magic Mind. Do you constantly feel on edge? Do you have digestive issues? Do you have difficulty sleeping? Do you have difficulty concentrating? These are just a few of the symptoms of a dysregulated nervous system. When we have unresolved stress or trauma weird things can happen with our body that can be quite scary. A dysregulated nervous system can cause either under-reacting or overreacting but either way it means that there is an imbalance of the two branches of our autonomic nervous system (the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems). What about our vagus nerve? How does that fit in? The vagus nerve is an integral part of your autonomic nervous system, that's the part of your body where we do those things automatically without thinking…heart rate and digestion. Sarah shares some more details and tips on how to heal this part of your nervous system We barely scratch the surface in this episode on the topic and encourage you to do your own research and talk to your doctor if you have specific concerns. The pandemic changed things for workplaces in so many ways, the way mental health is treated is just one of them. Often, in the workplace today, people talk more about how they are actually doing, sharing about their mental health, and possibly their mental illnesses. This isn't always a good thing though. An article in the Wall Street Journal last month, discussing the downside of bringing your whole self to the workplace had us thinking, how much should we really share about ourselves in the workplace? Mental health in the workplace carries a lot of emotion for many people, it can be a really scary topic to discuss because it seems incredibly taboo even in a time where there seems to be less stigma surrounding mental health. We tackle this topic this week because that is what we do, talk about the things no one wants to talk about. We talk about best practices as an employee and as a leader to maintain a positive mental health environment. As we continue moving through mental health awareness month, we continue to bring awareness even on the toughest corners of the topic. We hope you enjoy! Don't worry there is quite a bit of levity as I talk about my massive Linkedin presence with 31 connections and my purchase of the entire Wall Street Journal. As we continue through Mental Health Awareness Month we dig into grief on this week's episode. Post production after a little Google search, we realized that Prolonged Grief Disorder is actually in the DSM-5. So, Sarah was right when she said it should be its own mental illness. Diagnosis or not, grief is a sneaky b*tch. Grief isn't linear, the pain ebbs and flows. Important days like The Death Anniversary, Birthday, and holidays are only a few of the things that can bring up the grief. The healing journey is different for everyone, but the one thing we all should have in common is grace for ourselves as we travel this road. May is Mental Health Awareness Month and we are here to talk about it. Mental health, mental illness, and burnout are the hot topics of the day. Before that, we share our “behind the scenes” stories about our first time on live television. Once we got in the studio, we were totally fine, but before that…it was a different story. One of us shaved off half an eyebrow and the other nearly lost a shoe in a sewer grate. We started this podcast over two years ago and somehow never discussed the difference between mental health and mental illness. As Unqualified Therapists, we dive in with our Google research and own opinions on how these two differ. When our mental health is in a not so good place, it is most often due to burnout, which is most often caused by our work environments. We will discuss the stages of burnout and share some ways to heal from it. We hope you enjoy this real, honest, serious, and at the same time silly conversation with your Unqualified Therapists. Warriors….you are in for a wild and amazing ride this week on the podcast. Both Sarah and I are extra excited about this one. We believe the Universe brings people to us exactly when we need them. Our guest this week is Jina Seer. I stumbled upon her Podcast, Past Lives & The Divine and became mesmerized. After listening to just a few episodes, I scheduled an appointment to explore my own past lives and hear from my higher self. It was one of the most healing experiences for me in a time that I needed it the most. In this episode Jina explains hypnosis, past lives, and so many other magical things. We even learn why Sarah keeps running into alligators! You don't have to be a believer in all things spiritual, magical, and past lives to enjoy this episode. It is a fascinating conversation grounded in healing and growth. A little more about Jina: Jina has been helping people get in touch with their true nature since 2002 through various roles, projects, and companies. Currently Jina facilitates experiences where clients can learn from past life memories in ways that can help make the most of this life, today. She also helps people connect with and experience the eternal, unconditional, earthly, ancient love from their Angels and Spirit Guides so they can feel more love, peaceful, whole, worthy, and powerful. Jina is the co-creator of The Hypnotic Arts Training. Check out the training here. We have talked about a lot of topics these past 120 episodes, but this one, which affects over 50% of the population, is not one we have tackled before. Divorce can be painful, tricky, and complicated. Luckily, Dr. Katie is here to help us navigate this challenging topic. Dr. Katie shares advice as a professional as well as someone who has personal experience with divorce. We hope this conversation helps anyone who is experiencing divorce and trying to find their way through it. Do you have that person at work who tends to be rude no matter what you do? What happens when there is tension in the air? How do you handle conflict? Most adults like to ignore, run and hide, or talk to others about it. If that is you, you are not alone. Promise. But there might be a better way. Our friend Jessi joins us again on the podcast. This time she is sharing her super power, communicating in a healthy way with others. She shares some tangible tips that you can use right now in almost any situation. One of those is my personal favorite, and I can't believe she shared it with everyone! Conflict can be uncomfortable and isn't anything we go looking for in our lives. You have heard it here a million and one times, the mental health care system in our country is broken. We often talk about it on the show, but it is great to hear other perspectives and experiences. Holly bravely shares her story on this episode of navigating the mental health care system for 3 years with her mom. Her mom had a late (69 years old) onset of psychosis with depression. Holly takes us through her story as caretaker and the ups and downs of trying to get her mom the help she needed. In the end, it was a treatment called ECT (Electroconvulsive therapy) that saved her moms life. ECT has a stigma surrounding it that needs to be broken because sometimes it is the only answer. In the studio this week, we have our significant others. It's been a while since we had the guys as guests on the pod. But it was as if no time had passed as the ridiculousness, silliness, and laughter exuded through this recording. We are talking about all things MUSIC this week. What does it mean to you? It is one that we often don't think about when we share our mental health journey, but when it is one that is always a constant. What about you, what does music mean to you? Do you have a favorite song that helps you get into a better place when you are feeling low? Are there songs that make you think about lost loved ones? Why won't those in “authority” believe us when we tell them something awful happened or is about to happen? Why don't they take action? Episode 115 discusses examples of not being believed or taken seriously in our own lives, current events in the news with teacher, Abby Zwerner, and a story from our very favorite reporter, Josh Mankiewicz from Dateline. It is a daily occurrence and we really need to find a way to make it stop. Intrusive thoughts, we all have them, they are weird and can be embarrassing, but guess what? It's okay to talk about them. Talking about them, getting them out of heads, and knowing we aren't the only ones having them helps. I (Amy) share a lot in this episode. I give you the VIP tour of my brain that no one knows about. After we finished recording and the days following, I kept telling Sarah how embarrassed I felt because this is vulnerable shit that I tell no one. I wanted to erase it all, take the words back and get a do over where I just share the facts. But I didn't, instead I share with all of you because I believe with all my heart that there is someone out there wondering if they are the only one who thinks these thoughts. You are NOT the only one. I promise. In the episode, I describe the inside of my head as, “Its like this f*ing party that you didn't invite anybody to but they all showed up. You invite one friend over when your parents are out of town and the whole school shows up and you're like Nope. You are just doing life and there is a rager in your head.” It was a silly sentence that slipped out, but truly, it can sum up what some of my days feel like. Thankfully, after our discussion of the various types of intrusive thoughts, Sarah shares with us a list of ways we can quiet and calm the thoughts in our brains. We don't have to be paralyzed by these intrusive thoughts. Anxiety doesn't need to stop us from living beautiful lives. We hope our stories, tips, and our encouragement to reach out for professional help when needed helps you on your journey to quiet your mind and live in peace, or as I put it, “turn that rager into a yoga class in your mind.” We love you Warriors! Are you lucky? Have you heard of the “latest” trend, “Lucky Girl Syndrome?” (And by latest, I mean the age-old idea of manifestation.) This idea has resurfaced on Tik Tok and started a very interesting conversation and life experiment for the two of us. We talk all about luck in this episode, discussing Ted Talks, TV shows, Neuroscience, and, of course, examples from our lives. There are public apologies to our respective partners for laughing at their “stupid” ideas and thinking they were ridiculous to believe they were lucky all the time. You live and learn, right? Don't worry, we break down the difference between “lucky girl syndrome” and toxic positivity too. It is a jam packed episode rooted in luck! We hope you will not only enjoy it, but also try it yourself! We hold on to shit and carry it with us even when it is no longer serving us. It can be anger, resentment, hurt, sadness, disappointment or any other emotion. We cling to it until it makes us sick. Sick in our body, sick in our mind and sick in our spirit. Letting go is hard work, it can be difficult to release a situation where we were wronged or where something awful happened. But there is power in the release. Eckhart Tolle said, “Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.” Sarah and I talk about this on today's episode. We certainly don't have it all figured out, but we have some tips to share with you (and remind us) to us. As always Warriors, Stay Wild and Weird. On past episodes, we have discussed Bipolar Disorder from the lens of the partner and caregiver. We have also discussed the definition as described by the DSM-5 from the lens of a professional psychologist. For this episode, we get to hear the story and experiences from a person living with Bipolar Disorder. Mik shares with us her story of mental health from childhood to the present time. She shares her journey through therapists, medications, introspection, and research to bring her to a space of healing. Learn more about Mik here. Mik works for Matcha. Matcha "believes in a future where you can be more open with your therapist and doctors. Where you look forward to seeing them because you know and feel that they care about you. Where, no matter what insurance you have, you can find someone very quickly that you can have a lasting relationship with."
