For this months edition of Acoustic pleasure we are pleased to welcome back legendary South West DJ/ producer Phill Jubb. Beginning his DJ career in 1990, Phil soon became household name in the South West, holding residencies at the 2,000 capacity Plymouth Warehouse with Cultural Vibes and later Screem. Playing across the UK throughout the 90s at venues such as Club UK (London), The Gardening Club (London), Home (Manchester), and Lakota (Bristol), to name just a few, and also in Europe, including the huge 1994 Universe Tribal Gathering event in Munich. He's shared line ups with some of the best DJs in the World, and has warmed up for Sasha and John Digweed a number of times, most notably on the final night of their Northern Exposure album tour. Also dipping into production, he had several releases on the local Urban Collective label, as well as remixing tracks for labels such as Whoop!, Limbo and DMC. Fast forward to the present day and Phil is still delivering seamless, technical mixes of the very best in current melodic house & techno, progressive house and electronica. He plays at Cultural Vibes events, and does regular sets & live streams for the South West's Melodic Beats label. Phil also plays abroad in Morzine, France, at après ski parties at various venues during the winter season. Having recently rebuilt and significantly expanded his home studio, Phil is again embarking on fresh own production and remix work, with new releases now coming through and many more in the pipeline. Check out Phils mix in the second hour with some quality house and breaks including his brand new remix of Michael Vitans Modifier which is out soon on Prognosis. Always a pleasure to have Phil on and no doubt you will enjoy his selection
Why has Trump been so tough on Canada? The answer lies in a shocking trail of cartel assassins, terror suspects, and fentanyl pipelines flowing through a virtually unchecked northern border. With nearly 90% of terror watchlist suspects entering the U.S. from Canada and cartel hitmen plotting attacks via encrypted channels, the threat is real—and dangerously underreported. Dive into the untold story of how national security, drug trafficking, and international collusion collide north of the border, and why the silence surrounding it speaks volumes.
Dee shared the upcoming Pictures in Paradise at the Paradise Theater in Mora April 27th.
Today on the 5: After years of terrible releases missing the proper music, you can now watch Northern Exposure as it should be seen. Despite what reviews will try to tell you, it still holds up beginning to end.

Phil Marks is the host of ProWrestleTimes with a history in many entertainment areas. He's also Canadian indiginous on both sides of his family. He discusses his upbringing as indiginous in Canada, and balancing that with being a poor, city kid. We talk about the differences between the two nations that comprise his DNA. It becomes a trip down memory lane as your host's questions bring memories and knowledge. We discuss the mythology, cosmology, and the many questions I typically ask when exploring something mostly foreign to me.
This episode originally aired April 9, 2018. Hikers near Anchorage, Alaska discovered a body wrapped in sheets which were edged in orange stitching. Authorities hydrated the fingers and obtained a fingerprint, enabling them to identify the victim. Clinging to the sheet, they also discovered a tuft of red carpet fibers -- threads of evidence which led them straight to the killer. Learn more about your ad choices. Jason Borgstede is one-half of JB Deuce, a local snowboard and skateboard video that ran from the late-1990s to early-2000s. It was funded by Boarderline Alaska Snow and Skate shop — a retail business host Cody Liska's dad owned — and featured snowboarders and skateboarders from Alaska. Jesse Burtner was the other half of JB Deuce, and together he and Jason filmed their own video parts for it. They also produced all seven videos: Polar Bears, Dog Sleds and Igloos was the first. Then came Northern Exposure, 100%, Survival of the Tightest, The 49th Chamber, In For Life and Steezin' For No Reason. At first, the video premieres were small — projected onto a screen outside of Boarderline in Dimond Center. But as they grew, so did the venues. Until they were selling out the 4th Avenue Theatre in downtown Anchorage. To this day, Jason and Jesse have continued to pursue their love of snowboarding and skateboarding. Jason is the owner of Blue & Gold Boardshop in Anchorage and Jesse is the co-founder of Think Thank, a series of snowboard videos with the motto "Progression through creativity." Skater Micah Hollinger and snowboarder Andre Spinelli also join this conversation. Micah is one of the most celebrated skaters from Alaska. He filmed for all seven JB Deuce videos and went on to bring a unique, creative and artistic vision of progression to skateboarding. Andre, also known as Big Air Dre, filmed for numerous snowboard videos, including JB Deuce and Think Thank. His signature style involves hitting big jumps in the backcountry. This conversation was recorded in front of a live audience in the Anchorage Museum Auditorium on Friday, January 17, 2025. That event was brought to you by the Northern Boarder's exhibition. The exhibition celebrates snow and skate culture and community in Alaska through art. A lot of people helped make this episode possible. Julie Decker, Alex Tait, Danni Crombie and Max Kritzer at the Anchorage Museum. DJ Spencer Lee, and everyone on the panel. A quick note about the episode: About 42 minutes in, DJ Spencer Lee asks a question, and at the end of the episode there's an audience Q&A. There, you'll hear questions from Ollie Burtner, Sharon Liska and Les Burtner. Photo by Hank Davis

It is once again time for THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR! The climactic month of the holiday season that encompasses that yuletide feeling and Angela has picked (most) of the month's selections once again and we kick it off with a rom-com starring the king of rom-coms for much of the 90s and early 2000s. In 2001 you could put out a random John Cusack movie and make $77 million. Oh, how the movie going scene has changed and Mr. Cusack has been through his own changes as well. This 2001 flick is left to the fates as a chance romantic, if ill-timed, encounter goes amazingly well but when it ends it's left to the universe to decide if Jonathan and Sara are meant to be together. It takes a bit but the universe comes around. We're talking the 2001 Christmas rom-com directed by Peter Chelsom called “SERENDIPITY” and Bob struggles a bit with that word. It also stars Kate Beckinsdale, Jeremy Piven, Molly Shannon and John Corbett. Do our hosts get swayed into some holiday charm? Are the hosts forever doomed to suffer under the weight of their “realness”? WTF is Louis Armstrong saying in that song? Do you remember that show “Northern Exposure”? After updates on striking hotel workers, new UAW academic organizing, city workers in Philly and avian flu in dairy workers, we dive into our main stories. Michigan nurses won a massive union election this week as nearly 10,000 voted to join the Teamsters. The Canadian government stepped in on the side of the shipping companies this week and forced workers on both coasts into binding arbitration. Meanwhile, 55,000 striking Canada Post workers are challenging Prime Minister Trudeau to try it with them. We also check in on the strikes by teachers in Massachusetts and the repression they are facing from the state government. Zenimax workers held a one day strike this week to protest their employers' continued intransigence. Finally, delivery workers at Bimbo Bakeries in Washington State recently voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike after over a decade since their last cost of living raise. To Watch The Full Uncensored Version Visit The True North Movement https://www.patrickcoffin.media/the-true-north-movement/ Karen Hall is a prolific TV writer, producer, and convert to the Faith. She has received seven Emmy Award nominations and six Writers Guild of America award nominations. Chances are excellent you've loved watched shows she has written. (Start the list with Hill Street Blues, M.A.S.H., Moonlighting, Northern Exposure, I'll Fly Away, Judging Amy and The Good Wife). Her new book, her first non-fiction work, tackles the silencing of Father Paul Mankowski, SJ by the Jesuit superiors who could not abide a practicing Catholic in their midst. Mankowski, who died suddenly of an aneurysm on September 3, 2020, was a scholar, philologist, confessor, and professor of Scripture. He was also a writer of immense talent: charm, force, and wit. He was modern in the sense of addressing contemporary crises with Catholic truth, but also a true son of the Company of Jesus more in the mold of its founder, St. Ignatius of Loyola than the typical lavender-liberal Jesuits that dominate the landscape today. He was also silenced and sidelined by his superiors for Wrong Think. And yet, he obeyed and persevered to a degree that must be called heroic. Hall's very enjoyable book is not just a spiritual biography, but a window onto the chain-of-command dynamics of the post Vatican II Catholic Church, which have become even more severe under the current Argentine regime in Rome. In this episode, you will learn: How Hall applied top-flight storytelling skills to tell the tale, with admirable detail, of an unheralded hero in the Church. The reasons why Mankowski stayed and fought in his own way against Church corruption by remaining faithful to his vow of obedience come what may How the faithful Jesuit's witness led to an upgraded edition of her novel Dark Debts The inciting incident—criticizing pro-abortion Jesuit Congressman Robert Drinan, SJ— that began his targeting by corrupt homosexuality superiors Mankowski's fervent, often humorous critique of the sacred cows of the Catholic left: feminism, liturgical innovation, and “social justicism” Why we need more witnesses to the gospel without compromise Resources mentioned in this episode: The Sound of Silence: The Life and Cancelling of a Heroic Jesuit Priest by Karen Hall
Kris here, with another recommendation for a terrific audio drama that I recently binged from start to finish titled Sorry About the Murder. Sorry About the Murder bills itself as a very Canadian murder mystery fiction podcast, and it doesn't take very long to find out why. Set in the nice little town of Beavermount, Ontario, the story revolves around a friendly Zamboni driver who's falsely accused of committing a heinous homicide involving said Zamboni. (And real quick, in case you don't know what a Zamboni is, you really need to watch more hockey. A Zamboni is the vehicle that's used to smooth out the ice for a hockey match or for ice skating.) Hockey is a major theme in the podcast, because Canada, but also because the local hockey rink—and its nightly matches between teams of townsfolk—is the epicenter of the nice little town of Beavermount, Ontario. Which is why it's so important for the Zamboni driver, a very endearing character named Frenchie, to try to clear his name by nightfall, so he can ready the ice in time for that night's big match. Sorry About the Murder is a drama, yes, expertly narrated over eight very bingeable episodes, but it's really a small-town comedy full of quirky characters and deadpan humor. Think of it as a cross between Prairie Home Companion, Murder She Wrote, and the TV show Northern Exposure. This is reportedly just the first of several seasons that Frenchie will have to get himself out of a bind, so now's your chance to get in early and digest all of the goodness that is Sorry About the Murder. Here, for your enjoyment, is episode 1, titled Bonjour Beavermount. Sorry About the Murder and Dirt - An Audio Drama are both part of the Fable & Folly Network. Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 229, Recorded 7/17/2024. Blocked, so blame me. Facts are stubborn things. This week in floppies. Breakin Knobs. Not old, just older. Legal/Not Legal. A fine race in France. Macgyver meets Northern Exposure. RTFM meets YouTube. Redbox meets its demise.

Greetings and welcome to the Firebreathing Kittens. This is a short overview of how to play Community Radio. Community Radio is a story and improv focused game. We don't have character sheets. Instead, the players play out slice of life moments from a strange community, while the GM plays the Host of the community's radio station. The mood of a Community Radio game captures the voice of a community the way Welcome to Nightvale or Northern Exposure can capture the voice of a community. The game is written by Quinn Murphy and is available at thought crime games.itch.io. A second edition is currently in development. The Firebreathing Kittens will be playing version 1.2 of the game. Community Radio is also the basis for the excellent game Radio Free Kaiju, which centers on a community surviving a world populated by giant, deadly monsters. Prior to the game, all the players have submitted to the GM the following ideas: * An Innocent Person * A Terror * A Place of Interest * A Mood * A Strange Item * Up to 3 original songs or poems to be aired on the radio station. * Optionally, up to 3 decrees from the Niqamui Community Council, to be read on air. The GM has taken these elements and shuffled them into a very loosely connected series of slice of life scenes that the players will play out in an improv manner. Each slice of life scene is 3-5 minutes long. After a slice of life scene, there is a short musical interlude. During the musical break, players who were just in the scene write decrees, sometimes about the scene, or about a previous scene, or just about something else entirely. These decrees are secretly passed to the Host, who selects from the available decrees during the Radio Scene. Radio scenes have a bumper, a report from the Host reacting to and interpreting the slice of life scene, and lastly a decree by the Council. The Host is not allowed to break Council decrees, and the decrees often respond to actions during the slice of life scene. You'll notice there is nothing about "how do you fight in this game" or "how do I convince someone to do what I want." As an improv-heavy game, Community Radio relies on players to adjudicate using "yes, and" to narrate what their characters are doing and how successful they are. The game is heavily player-generated, with the Host acting as an interpreter more than anything else. For purposes of the Firebreathing Kittens format, I have added some structure to the scenes so they aren't as random as suggested in the Community Radio rulebook. The key elements are all provided by the players, however, as are all the decrees. I hope you enjoy our episode featuring Community Radio.

The aurora found the farm! And, AND- it may find Blind Hog and Acorn again tonight as NOAA issued a G5 solar warning, G5 being "extreme."Blind Hog and Acorn learned about the workings of "vinyl replacement window companies..."Blind Hog got to cut on more fallen trees, Acorn attacked the garden and side hill with the string trimmer.Acorn also installed an electronic ignition under the Massey Ferguson's distributor cap- now to check the float bowl and set the timing.Exciting times on the farm, now if the cloud cover will just hold off until 10 pm...
I read from excel to exceptionally. Shortly after I recorded this episode, we were watching Northern Exposure and "excelsior" was mentioned as a packing material! I had never heard it before and then it comes up twice in a short period of time?! I have "exceptionalism" for this podcast. ;) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exceptionalism The word of the episode is "exceptional". Today on The Neil Haley Show, Neil "The Media Giant" Haley interviews Barry Corbin. Barry Corbin has been acting for more than six decades, a career that has seen him take more than two hundred roles onstage, on TV, and in the movies. They've mostly been supporting roles, often authority figures-a natural fit, given Barry's large frame and confident presence. He's played fifteen sheriffs, several generals, a few wise uncles, a swaggering astronaut, and a hard-core basketball coach. He's also played psychotic patriarchs, wealthy Texans, Santa Claus, and Lyndon Johnson. Even when his characters are overbearing or murderous, Barry has always found a way to make them human and likable-so much so that he often steals the show, as he did portraying General Jack Beringer in WarGames and astronaut Maurice Minnifield in Northern Exposure. Known as a character actor, he always seems like he's genuinely enduring whatever his character is enduring-while also somehow remaining Barry Corbin.

Will 2024 see a third Lebanon war? Somewhat overshadowed by the Gaza war, Hezbollah has been consistently firing rockets at Israeli towns since October 7, forcing the mass evacuation of more than 60,000 Israeli civilians, and a no-man's-land security perimeter inside Israeli territory. So far, Hezbollah's aggression has not broken out into a larger war. But Israel now faces a strategic and moral problem. Will it be forced into a full-scale escalation in Lebanon before it can send its citizens home and its children to school? Or is there a chance of a diplomatic solution?Miri Eisin, a retired IDF colonel, expert in military intelligence, and government spokesperson during the Second Lebanon War answers this question. She's spent the last few years mapping out this scenario and its consequences. In a difficult and frank conversation, Miri outlines the genuine dilemmas Israeli leadership faces in the days ahead, what ordinary Israelis should anticipate, and how they can prepare. Ann Taenes - Washington Post Trump's RNC is reuniting the band: convicted criminals Paul Manafort and Steve Bannon (and maybe now-in-jail Peter Navarro) plus world-class whackos Steven Miller and Corey Lewandowski...under the "leadership" of daughter-in-law Lara Trump. It's looking like a rerun of 2020, but better organized but without Jared or Ivanka. Just this week, we're seeing The screening for new Republican National Committee employees: do they agree that the 2020 election was stolen? Michigan's Ronna “Don't Call Me Romney” McDaniel's NBC gig lasts half a Scaramucci after an on-air rebellion The Zillow listings for Trump properties will have to wait as the Sneaker-and-Bible Salesman gets a $300-million reprieve from a New York appeals court Trump gets a tenuous windfall with Truth Social, but the company continues to lose money and could end up bankrupt (just like Trump casinos, Trump Airline, Trump Water, Trump University etc. etc.) Trump gets to pray about his first criminal trial, now set to begin on April 15th (which likely means fewer rounds of golf). Around Michigan: Former Governor Granholm returns to the Mitten bearing gifts: $1.5-billion to restart the Palisades nuclear plant Ottawa County may be Michigan's most conservative politically, but its voters aren't at all happy with the new ultra-right-wing mob running the county Protecting healthcare, Social Security and Medicare are back as fundamental campaign issues The most successful one-night fundraiser in political history gets launched with Biden's backup band: Bill Clinton and Barack Obama Biden's polling numbers are up in Michigan and nationally, and the campaign opens a 2nd office in Michigan. Meanwhile Trump's Michigan remains in shambles. We're joined this week by longtime Republican political consultant Stuart Stevens, now a senior adviser with the Lincoln Project. Stevens has worked at the top level of more presidential and senatorial campaigns than just about anyone. His first presidential effort: the Bob Dole campaign in 1996. His book The Big Enchilada is a chronicle of George W. Bush's 2000 campaign. He is also a prolific writer. It Was All A Lie: How The Republican Party Became Donald Trump is his eighth book; his ninth book, The Conspiracy to End America Five Ways came out last October. He has also written extensively for dramatic television series, starting with Northern Exposure and including I'll Fly Away, K. Street, Commander in Chief and others. =========================== This episode is sponsored in part by EPIC ▪ MRA, a full service survey research firm with expertise in: • Public Opinion Surveys • Market Research Studies • Live Telephone Surveys • On-Line and Automated Surveys • Focus Group Research • Bond Proposals - Millage Campaigns • Political Campaigns & Consulting • Ballot Proposals - Issue Advocacy Research • Community - Media Relations • Issue - Image Management • Database Development & List Management ===========================
