Tony Soprano had his head transplanted onto a robot mantis body at the end of The Sopranos. We're not sorry for spoiling that, it should be common knowledge by now.  Hey, we're back with 4/5 original cast members, but still 5 boys. Remember the school picnic? The same salt & pepper shaker ride ran for at least 50 years with 0 maintenance. Is unsupervised fun a thing of the past like those little glass carnival prize pictures? Also, isn't it crazy how you can go into a thrift store and buy the last photo of someone for $2? Also, whats the latest on the head transplant? All this and more. Makin' your way in the world today takes everything ya got - we're always glad ya came.

Hope everyone's having a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend, Junkies. The boys ate too much so now they have to take off their pants and slip into so comfortable shorts. Short films, that is! Up first, legendary underground short filmmaker Kenneth Anger brings us his occult, psychedelic opus Lucifer Rising from 1972/1980. Featuring music by infamous Manson Family murderer Bobby Beausoleil and starring Marianne Faithfull, Chris Jagger and Jimmy Page this Satanic-themed trip has become quite notorious for its visual style and troubled history. Then, in 1979 ABC aired an hour long prime-time special entitled Playboy's Roller Disco & Pajama Party. Hosted by Family Feud's Richard Dawson, the special featured live performances by The Chuck Mangione Quartet and The Village People as well as cameos by Jim Brown, James Caan, Ruth Buzzi and of course, a whole lot of Playboy Playmates. Finally, we take a look at a 2008 short film by filmmaker Denis Villeneuve (Dune, Blade Runner 2049) about a group of rich people eating a ridiculous meal and falling through several floors of a high rise building in Next Floor. All this plus Thanksgiving meal ideas, Sean's financial issues, Goof Lumps, new footage of The Stuff found, multiple cuts of Phantom of the Mall, the guy from American Werewolf sings "Makin' It" and so much more.LISTEN NOW:MP3 Direct DonloydAlso, if you like the show, please take a minute and subscribe and/or comment on us on iTunes, Stitcher, Blubrry or Podfeed.net. The band also brought in old friend, Roger Glover from Deep Purple to produce the album, however Roger ends up writing the lyrics and joining the band as its new bassist. ARC favorite, Don Airey joins as well as the keyboard player. The sole remaining Rainbow member on the album was legendary drummer, Cozy Powell. This forgotten Rainbow album was sandwiched between three Dio led Rainbow albums and three Joe Lynn Turner led Rainbow albums. The album seemed to stray away from the familiar Rainbow sound and lyrics into a more commercial sound, especially with its two singles, All Night Long and their biggest hit, Since You Been Gone. There aren't enough public schools in Maine. By some estimates, about half of Maine's school districts don't have the facilities or faculty to educate students who live in them. The state's solution is to give families who live in such districts money to send their children to another school—either a different public school further away, or a private school. But Maine doesn't make that funding available to families who choose to send their children to religious schools. In just a few weeks, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the case of Carson v. Makin, a case that could affect the way that Maine, and the greater United States, deals with the funding of religious schools. On this week's podcast, the legal academic Avi Helfand joins Mosaic editor Jonathan Silver to discuss the amicus brief that he filed for this case, and to explore whether Maine is acting in a way that is consistent with the First Amendment's religious freedom protections. This particular case also allows for Helfand to question more fundamental legal heuristics, such as the supposed distinction in American case-law between a legal entity's religious "status," and its "use" of religion. Musical selections in this podcast are drawn from the Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, op. 31a, composed by Paul Ben-Haim and performed by the ARC Ensemble.

Dom Giordano, WPHT host and former teacher, has dedicated much of his daily show toward parents who are taking it into their own hands to push back against school boards that have a negative impact on their children. This has culminated in a weekly podcast on education, Readin', Writin', and Reason, which has allowed wonderful relationships to develop between Giordano, educators, and parents throughout the country who are speaking out against overbearing school boards. This week, Dom spends time speaking with those in the know, people who have experienced much of what we're seeing first-hand before, and have fought back in their own ways. First, Dom is joined by Pennsylvania State Representative Andrew Lewis, who has sponsored a bill in the House, HB1332, which calls for more transparency from school boards in the decision-making process when determining curriculum. The bill, if signed into law, would make school curriculum materials more accessible to parents, requiring schools across the state to post curriculum materials on their public-facing websites. Lewis explains why he took up the cause, telling many stories of parents who discovered curriculum they were vehemently against, only after it was too late.  Then, Pennsylvania State Senator Scott Martin joins the program, explaining why he's searching for answers after a letter was penned to students throughout the Commonwealth, which threatened children with a court ordered quarantine.  Also, New Jersey State Senator Holly Schepisi joins the podcast to discuss her push to find answers surrounding an initiative by New Jersey schools that encourages teachers to log private information of students and families in a third-party advocacy application.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

But what sort of investment? In this episode, Laura interviews environmental lawyer Colette Pichon Battle in Louisiana about the strategies organizers there have developed since Hurricane Katrina for equitable green development and climate justice. Then, she speaks in depth with MacArthur “Genius” award-winning landscape architect Kate Orff about her innovative work on oyster reefs, living breakwaters and regenerative infrastructure. Recently profiled in the New Yorker Magazine, Orff insists that ecology is the infrastructure of the future. Her work restores and harnesses—rather than resists—natural systems to ensure the livability of our rapidly changing world. After the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in December 1941, the U.S. Marine Corps set out to create the first two battalions of Marine Raiders. These well-trained, elite commando units quickly proved themselves better than the best Japanese troops on Guadalcanal and on the surrounding islands known as Tulagi and Makin Atoll. Two more battalions were soon created but the raiders were disbanded when the realities of war demanded it.In this edition of "Veterans Chronicles", we'll speak with Carole Engle Avriett, author of "Marine Raiders: The True Story of the WWII Battlions." Avriett explains how the raiders came to be and how the battalions embodied the personalities of their commanders. She also follows individual raiders during the brutal battle of Bloody Ridge and the extended jungle mission known as the long patrol.

The following is the full uncut conversation with Colette Pichon Battle, Lawyer & Founder and Executive Director, Gulf Coast Center for Law & Policy, from our episode "Ecology: The Infrastructure of the Future?" In the midst of yet another year of climate catastrophe, the U.S. Senate is negotiating a $3.5 trillion infrastructure package.  President Biden, among others, is calling for extensive investment to lower emissions and combat the effects of climate change.
