Amanda Stevenson is still in the dark as to which of her twins is an alien prince prophesied to save the Almec and human races from genocidal eradication by the malevolent forces of the Vladock Empire. In an effort to preserve a possible future where both races might survive, this information, and more, was purposely kept from Amanda by the Almec. Inevitably Amanda will discover the truth, forever changing her reality and with it how events foretold in the ancient Almec prophecy unfold. Meanwhile, Collins persuades Amanda to decrypt the Vladock language from records discovered in the crashed alien ship frozen in the arctic. Collins, however, has his own agenda which not only requires this information but other things he suspects only Amanda can deliver and he will allow nothing to stand in his way of getting them. Fifty thousand light years away, the Vladock are massing a galactic search for the remnants of their old enemy. Their emperor, driven by hatred and rage, seeks the complete extinction of the Almec and anyone protecting them to prevent the ancient Almec prophecy from coming true. A prophecy which ends with the defeat of his race at the hands of an Almec Warrior and King. It's a race against time. Who will live and who will die as the Vladock seek to complete their genocidal mission. Will the prophesized Warrior and King emerge from childhood to fulfill the ancient prophecy? How far will Amanda Stevenson and Queen Ekora go to protect their children and their people from extinction? The answers and much more remain shrouded in the Shadows of the Future. Rob Rubinetti is no stranger to science or SCI FI. He has lived life as a lover of both. As ayoung boy growing up in an age of space exploration unparalleled in human history, he wrote SCI FI adventures stories and performed plays in Miniature Theater of these stories in his hometown community center. As a young man in school, he developed conceptual space flight science which only today we are beginning to explore. He went on to obtain degrees in Mechanical and Nuclear Propulsion Engineering, but always retained his passion for great storytelling. Now returning to his passion he brings us the story of what is to come for the human race through the lives of four generations of a family whose past, present and future are woven into the inevitable tapestry of humanity's future and its survival. The three story arcs of the Stevenson family explores the unknown mysteries of our universe, our insipid journey into interstellar space, contact with alien races both benign and hostile, the lengths we will go to as a species not just to survive, but to understand who we are, and what we are capable of doing to protect that we hold most dear to us. This is not a story of some long distant future or in a galaxy far far away. This story has already begun in the here and now in our human existence and is only waiting to unfold in Shadows of the Future. For more info on the book click HERE

"My tunnel vision of choral music just exploded. I was able to learn so much about all these different cultures that were in my school and the music that represented them. That's where I really learned that students have to have some representation to make them feel that they're really part of this community."Amanda Stevenson is currently the 4th and 5th grade vocal music teacher at Titan Hill Intermediate School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Recently, Ms. Stevenson was the Founding Artistic Director for the Omaha Children's Choir - an organization she founded to provide all singers with an appreciation and understanding of the city's diversity and to inspire change by the power of choral music. Over the last 7 years, Ms. Stevenson created an inclusive and diverse repertoire that truly reflected the singers represented in Omaha Children's Choir. She led the organization to launch the Voices Creating Change initiative which gives voice to the issues of our time and uses music as a tool to inspire social change in the community. Ms. Stevenson also taught middle school vocal music in Iowa. Ms. Stevenson holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Iowa Wesleyan University and a Master of Music with an emphasis in choral music education from Western Illinois University. She is currently working on a Master of Arts in Teaching, Leadership, and Cultural Competency through the University of Iowa. She lives in Omaha with her husband, 4 children, and their dog Oscar. To get in touch with Amanda, you can find her on Instagram or Twitter (@amandastvnsn) or on Facebook (@amandarstevenson).Email choirfampodcast@gmail.com to contact our hosts.Podcast music from Podcast.coPhoto in episode artwork by Trace Hudson from Pexels

With a near-total abortion ban that was recently passed in Texas and Mississippi's request to overturn Roe v. Wade making its way to the Supreme Court, many are asking what the uptick in abortion restrictions in the US will mean for reproductive health and justice. On this latest episode, Professor Amanda Stevenson draws on her new research to show how abortion bans lead to an increase in pregnancy-related deaths and steps policymakers can take to expand greater access to reproductive health services.  For more on Amanda Stevenson's research and this topic: Check out her latest opinion piece published in Salon: Pregnancy is Much More Dangerous Than Abortion -- Meaning Abortion Bans Like Texas' Will Be More Deadly Take a look at the CDC”s Pregnancy Mortality Surveillance System page that provides stats on pregnancy-related deaths.

Building Team Trust & Geeking Out On Guidelines (with Amanda Stevenson) – Episode 51

For Amanda Stevenson, helping people find homes is a family affair. Growing up with a real estate agent/mortgage broker father, Amanda knew what an LTV was by age 10 and had her own real estate license by 20. Now, her daughter is her assistant. Amanda attributes her success to two major actions; leaning into her specialty, VA home loans, and her ability to trust her team. Both took time to nurture and grow, but once she decided to become intentional in her actions, everything started to fall into place.  While referrals weren’t extremely hard to find with a nurse, doctor, teacher, policeman, detective, and firefighter in the family, it wasn’t the number of loans that Amanda attributes to her success. It’s her hard work and dedication, her constant training and trying to stay on top of constantly changing guidelines, especially for VA loans. Sometimes, simply doing your job well can be better than any marketing campaign. While working with such tight knit communities, it only takes trust and the power of word of mouth for referrals to follow. Amanda uses these referrals to do right by those that put their life at risk for all of us.  Amanda also talks about the power of reading. Guideline books are big, they’re wordy and not necessarily a thrilling New York Times best-seller, however, they can make you a better broker. You don’t have to memorize every single page but a healthy and consistent skim will make you more knowledgeable about the latest regulations. Also, with knowledge comes confidence, and the ability to better control your pipeline. The better you know your guidelines, the less surprised you will be when you get everything back from your underwriter. And in certain situations, as Amanda shares, you might even be able to successfully challenge certain conditions, not just saving yourself time, but saving the borrower money as well.  One of the biggest roadblocks in Amanda's wholesale career was her ability to grow. With her pipeline full, she knew that growing her team was the only way to move forward, but she just didn’t trust other people with her loans. She was scared of allowing anyone else to communicate with her clients. Her biggest advice to stepping over this obstacle? “...Get over yourself.” You’re not the be all and end all in mortgage, and you’re only one person, so you can only do so much. But by bringing in other people, you’ll be able to expand your reach and help more families find their forever homes. A bigger team will also improve your work/life balance, which helps everyone.  Overnight successes worked their entire lives to reach their dreams. It’s not about doing everything all at once. Take small, but intentional and consistent steps, and success will follow.   Show Notes:  Broker Beginnings (1:38)Being The True Local Expert (3:39)Advice For First Time Brokers (9:32)Building The Ideal Team (18:45)Stepping Stone To Success (27:40)

In this episode of What's Up Omaha I sit down with Shawn Riddle, Executive Director of Priority Foster Care Nebraska, and Amanda Stevenson, a Foster Parent and friend. The goal of this discussion was to raise awareness about the system of Foster Care. For a lot of us, myself included, we may not have a vast knowledge of what Foster Care is and what it means to those involved. Aside from Amanda I am not aware of any other friends that I have that are Fosters. Without knowing her I would know even less than I do now. I love this interview because it allowed us to get a glimpse into the world not only from the organizational perspective, but also the family perspective. Though we were able to cover a good amount of content I do know that we probably barely even scratched the surface of this topic. The main takeaway is for people to understand that Foster Care is about reunification of the biological family.

Houston's Museum of Printing History was founded in 1979 by Raoul Beasley, Vernon P. Hearn, Don Piercy, and J. V. Burnham, four printers with a passion  for preserving their various printing-related collections and sharing them with the community.  Chartered in 1981 the Museum had its official opening in 1982 with Dr. Hans Halaby, Director of the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz, Germany, cutting the ribbon.  The mission of the Museum is to promote, preserve, and share the knowledge of printed communication and art as the greatest contributors to the development of the civilized world and the continuing advancement of freedom and literacy. It does this through an active, on-going exhibitions program, and a series of book arts workshops. I met with Museum Curator Amanda Stevenson this past summer to talk about the collection. During our conversation she delivers a very informative thumb-nail sketch of how relief and intaglio printing techniques work.
