Avsnitt 324.

In this groundbreaking book, Dr. Josh Axe and Jordan Rubin unveil how centuries-old biblical nutrition holds the key to fighting today's skyrocketing lifestyle diseases-heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, and high blood pressure-which now account for 71% of global deaths. & successfully tackling the shocking stats of early-onset cancer (under age 50), up 79% since 1990, noted by the American Cancer Society. Both Dr. Axe and Jordan overcame life-threatening illnesses through the principles outlined in "The Biblio Diet"-ancient biblical nutrition practices that not only transformed their lives but have helped thousands of others reclaim their health. Their deeply personal healing journeys, combined with modern scientific validation and real-world success stories, form the foundation of this timely book."This book is more than discovering how to eat-it's a tool to help you harness the power of your mind, soul, and spirit for healing and wholeness," says Jordan.Jordan overcame Crohn's disease, Dr. Axe recovered from a debilitating spinal infection, and his mother survived cancer-just a few of the powerful testimonies that illustrate how these time-tested principles are helping to reverse the modern health crisis. Together, they bring a rare and compelling blend of personal experience and professional expertise backed by real-life success stories.

We go over how environmental exposures, inflammation, and even emotional states like fear and resentment can weaken the immune system and create the conditions for disease. The conversation explores biblical nutrition principles, from fasting and prayer to avoiding unclean foods and choosing God-made, unprocessed foods in their natural forms. I first came across Andrés Mario Zervigón's (Cuban) name while researching a magazine that filled me with awe the first time I saw it. AIZ, the Arbeiter-Illustrierte-Zeitung (Workers Illustrated Magazine) is an illustrated, mass circulation German periodical that was published in Berlin during the 1920s and 1930s (in Prague after 1933). It contains some of the most emotionally charged imagery I've ever seen. The best work was by John Heartfield. Zervigón is professor of the history of photography at Rutgers University in New Jersey. He obtained his PhD from Harvard University in 2000 and concentrates his scholarship “on the interaction between photographs, film, and fine art." His first book, John Heartfield and the Agitated Image: Photography, Persuasion, and the Rise of Avant-Garde Photomontage (University of Chicago Press, 2012), proposes that “photography's sudden ubiquity in illustrated magazines, postcards, and posters produced an unsettling transformation of visual culture that artists felt compelled to address.” Zervigón's work, says the Rutger's website, “generally focuses upon moments in history when these media [film, photography, fine art] prove inadequate to their presumed task of representing the visual.” We start our conversation by unpacking this passage, and then move on to a short history of illustrated, mass circulation magazines, (including VU magazine), then to the life of John Heartfield, and finally to AIZ. Welcome to Episode 214! This episode contains a lot of biblio adventuring. Emily is in Traverse City, Michigan, helping her daughter, getting to know her new granddaughter, and discovering the many excellent Little Free Libraries in the area. She also shopped at Horizon Books and has been spending time at the Traverse City Library. Meanwhile, back in New England, Chris and “Colleen from Chicago” hit the road for a four-day Biblio Adventure Extravaganza that included Melville's Arrowhead, Wharton's The Mount, Emily Dickinson's family homes, The Homestead and The Evergreens, Amherst Books, and The Yiddish Book Center. The former bookstore coworkers capped it off with the annual Moby Dick marathon aboard the Charles W. Morgan at Mystic Seaport Museum. Oh, and she forgot to mention that they also went to the Odyssey Bookstore at Mount Holyoke. Phew, what a blast! We managed to finish a few books, too: Emily loved THE SNOW CHILD by Eowyn Ivey and appreciated its cold Alaska setting while reading in the heat of Michigan's summer. She listened to the audiobook version of Ann Napolitano's first novel, WITHIN ARM'S REACH, which features six narrators, and then two Audible Original short stories by Alice Hoffman, "The Bookstore Sisters" and "The Bookstore Wedding.” Chris read MOBY DICK by Herman Melville (that's twice this year) and a novelization about his relationship with Nathaniel Hawthorne, THE WHALE: A Love Story by Mark Beauregard. She also read her first book club selection from Book Browse, THE ROSE ARBOR, by Rhys Bowen. Happy Listening!
