Bodybuilding Legends Lee Haney and Rich Gaspari talk about when they trained together in 1984 as training partners (10:54). Lee was training to win his first Mr. Olympia contest that year and Rich was trying to win his class in the NPC Nationals and the Amateur World Championships to get his pro card. Rich talks about about how he had to transform his physique from a blocky heavyweight to a more aesthetic light heavyweight (20:43). Lee explains the training style he used to build muscle mass and stay injury free (19:00) and what he saw in Rich that made him decide to choose him as a training partner (17:45). At the end of the podcast, host John Hansen reads an article from the July, 1983 issue of IronMan Magazine called "Lee Haney, World Champion" written by Garry Bartlett (1:08:33). With the 2018 Amateur World Championships in Charlotte, NC, the disc golf world is once again headquartered in the Mecca of disc golf. Final Round Radio was on hand Tuesday night at the Flymart to talk to one of the founding fathers of the modern sport of disc golf, Harold Duvall. Harold is one of the co-founders of Innova East, along with Dave Dunipace and Tim Selinske. Harold is also a two time world champion (1982 and 1985) and, along with Dave Dunipace, the creators behind the modern disc golf disc. We talked to Harold about how he met Dave and Tim and Innova's beginnings. We also talked about the differences between disc golf in 1983 and today's game, how important it is to have a strong amateur field in the sport, and the serendipity of his PDGA number (#2018). We had to work a little harder for Episode 50 than most episodes. We originally recorded Episode 50 Tuesday night at our sponsor, NoDa Brewing Company, which was an excellent time. We had a few friends of the show over, bought the first beers for everyone, and recorded an excellent podcast with Matt Cheney. ... and somewhere after that we lost the audio file. Our bad. Fortunately, Matt was able to join us again Friday night at Another Round Disc Golf to re-record Episode 50, with K2 joining us again via Skype from Emporia, Kansas, where he is following the Pro World Championships. Matt, who was a guest way, way WAY back in Episode 2, had plenty to talk about this time around. Matt breaks the news about the CDGC making a bid for the 2018 Amateur World Championships, as well as previewing the fourth season of the Charlotte Putting League. We also talk about the two month disc golf road trip that Matt took with his kids, playing courses like Bucksnort, Blue Ribbon Pines, High Bridge Hills and more. We hate to make you wait for this episode, especially number 50, but we're glad you're tuning in anyway!
