In this episode of the WGI Unleashed Podcast, we head to Fort Lauderdale to catch up with Kristen Nowicki, Senior Project Manager on WGI's Planning team. From her early days climbing trees in Pennsylvania to helping shape communities across South Florida, Kristen's story is equal parts thoughtful, driven, and refreshingly down to earth. We also learned one very important thing right away: she could eat pineapple pizza every day for the rest of her life. That might be the boldest take we've had on the podcast yet. From Tree Hugger to Planner Kristen's path into planning was anything but linear, and it makes perfect sense when you hear her story. Growing up just outside Philadelphia, she spent a lot of time outdoors, which sparked an early interest in the environment. That passion led her to study environmental science at the University of Florida. But somewhere along the way, her perspective shifted. Instead of trying to stop development, she realized the real opportunity was in shaping it responsibly. That mindset led her back to school for a master's in urban and regional planning and into a career where she could balance growth with environmental and community needs. Finding Her Lane at WGI Since joining WGI in 2020, Kristen has expanded her role beyond traditional planning. She now works across multidisciplinary teams, manages complex projects, and plays a key role in business development. From municipal planning efforts to private development projects, her work covers a wide range of services. One standout example is a recent affordable housing project designed for seniors on fixed incomes, a meaningful contribution to a growing need in South Florida. What she enjoys most? The ability to take ownership of her career. At WGI, Kristen has found the flexibility to explore new opportunities, build relationships, and grow her impact. It's not about staying in a box. It's about stepping outside of it and making things happen. Building Connections That Matter Kristen is deeply involved in the planning community through organizations like the American Planning Association, where she has taken on leadership roles and helped organize major industry events. For her, these connections are a way to stay engaged, keep learning, and contribute to the future of the profession. Planning for People One of the biggest takeaways from this episode is Kristen's perspective on planning itself.  Land use, zoning, and development approvals are all a part of the gig, but ultimately, it's about people. Jetzt ist er in das Unternehmen seiner Familie gewechselt und bei dem Taschenhersteller Picard Vertreter der fünften Generation. Warum er sich dafür entschieden hat und wie er die Marke künftig prägen will, erzählt Martin Picard im Gespräch mit TW-Gastgeber Jörg Nowicki.

Ken Nowick is the owner and CEO of Cerberus Strength USA, the American brand of the Scottish company of the same name which strives to provide supportive equipment of the highest possible quality to not only high level athletes in strength sports but also the recreational athlete too. Attaining a master's degree in chemical and process engineering, Nowicki not only shifted gears out of a career in oil but simultaneously emigrated from Scotland to the USA to begin a career in sports therapy in 2013. He interned at Teamwork Therapy & Sports Performance while attending school for a certificate in massage therapy at the Massage Therapy Institute of Colorado. While at Teamwork Therapy, he worked with an extensive range of patients from general public suffering from back pain, all the way to World's Strongest Man winners in an attempt to avoid injury and maximize performance. Things shifted again in 2014 when the Cerberus Strength began releasing small batches of products in the USA. Since that time, Nowicki has been at the helm of Cerberus Strength USA and has seen the company continue to grow year upon year and gain large amounts of exposure within the strength community. In addition to managing the responsibilities of an owner and CEO of the company, Nowicki is a big presence in the strength sport and strongman community. He has been putting out content through Cerberus Strength in the form of educational articles and videos, as well hosting The Iron Edge Podcast.  Nowicki has been involved with strongman and strength sports as a competitor since 2006 and has competed on some of the biggest stages in professional strongman. Over the course of his career he has traveled internationally, representing his home country within the sport, winning multiple titles and finishing on the podium at some of the biggest events in strongman, to include being crowned Scotland's Strongest Man 4 times, 2011 UK's Junior Strongest Man and UK's Strongest Man runner-up, and finishing 7th at Amateur World Championships in 2012 amongst other accolades. How the Divine Works Through Us - Rev. Lin Nowicki From the Sunday Service at the Center for Spiritual Living in Redding on 1-12-25

Mike Nowicki is the Director of Agronomy at a famously tough golf course to play and to manage: Victoria National Golf Club outside of Evansville, Indiana. The property was designed by Tom Fazio and built in the late 1990s, with the mandate to make one of the toughest golf courses to play in the world. Most would agree that he accomplished that task. It was built on an old coal mine and much of the property's soil came from deep in the ground. As Mike describes in the podcast, it was not easy to work with. Because the soils were so bad the course started an aggressive top dressing program on fairways, ultimately building a 10-12 inch sand cap which brought its own set of agronomic challenges. Mike has worked on golf courses in “transition zones” like Evansville, Indiana and Richmond, Virginia for most of his career and enjoys the challenge. One of the more interesting points of our conversation was when he shared his stories about how he has had to become creative when it came to building a staff. He has a large contingency of crew from Middle Eastern countries that have proven to be wonderful, although the language barriers were a bit challenging! For nearly 40 years, NYU developmental psychologist Dr. Niobe Way has been conducting groundbreaking research with teenagers, particularly boys and young men from diverse backgrounds. She's the author of more than 100 peer -reviewed research papers and is a go -to expert for media and the social science community on friendships, loneliness, teenagers, gender stereotypes, masculinity, and the roots of violence. Her work, which focuses on social and emotional development and how cultural ideologies shape child development, has broad appeal and resulted in everything from changes to APA policies and an Oscar -nominated film. Dr. Niobe Way is the author of two books, Deep Secrets and Rebels with a Cause. And this topic that we got to dive into about boy culture and what this means and what it looks like, it feels so dear to my heart as a mom raising a boy and also looking at what we can do to support the boys and men in our culture so that they're allowed to do things like feel sad, and that they aren't suppressing emotions that then come out in sometimes terrifying ways. Melissa Nowicki's 3 year old son Brock was diagnosed with a Pediatric Brain cancer known as CIC-DUX4 Fusion Sarcoma in April of 2023. Both his surgery to remove his tumor and his follow up scans were perfect as 100 percent of his tumor was removed and there was no spreading of his disease. Brock is now 4 years old, was honored by the New England Revolution Professional Soccer team at Cancer Awareness Night on September 28th, and is doing well health wise.

Tom's latest project in Apple TV's “Bad Monkey” premiering on August 14th, the series follows Andrew Yancy, a former police detective who has been reduced to conducting restaurant inspections in Southern Florida. A severed arm found by a tourist pulls Yancy into the world of greed and corruption that decimates the land and environment in both Florida and the Bahamas. Nowicki portrays Captain Keith Fitzpatrick and his character the Captain can be seen on-camera throughout the series, and the Captain narrates all ten episodes in the series. Raised in both the industrial landscape of Detroit and the sunny, cultural melting pot of Florida, Tom draws on these contrasting environments to bring depth and authenticity to his performances. His passion for acting was ignited in high school, where a transformative role in "The Crucible" led him to pursue a theater education at Yale University. With over 160 credits to his name, Tom has delivered memorable performances in notable and acclaimed productions such as "Reptile," "The Glorias," "The Blindside," and the upcoming "Bad Monkey." Trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, Tom's approach to his roles is characterized by thorough preparation and a keen eye for turning moments on their head. We discuss a new work titled "Toward Justice" which celebrates the Equal Protection Clause in the U.S. Constitution. It will be performed tomorrow (Tuesday) evening at the Civil War Museum in Kenosha. Julia Nowicki, a former attorney and judge, wrote the libretto for the work - and also plays cello in the Prairie String Quartet. Ben Woods, a talented young man who now works for the Kenosha Unified School District, is the work's narrator. We finish out the hour with an excerpt from a past interview with historian Donald C. White, talking about his book "Lincoln's Greatest Speech," a fascinating examination of his second inaugural (a portion of which is utilized in "Toward Justice.")

He is a professor of psychology at Emory University, and he has served as the director of clinical training, head of the psychological center, and head of the counseling center. Dr. Nowicki remains in active clinical practice as a diplomat in psychology, and let me tell you, he is a gem. His latest book, Raising a Socially Successful Child, teaching kids the non -verbal language they need to communicate, connect, and thrive, is so good, and we had such a rich discussion. Honestly, the only thing I wish I had was more time. I could have talked to him for so long, and he's one of those humans that makes you feel when you're with him like you're the only thing that matters in that moment, that he's so present. It was really cool to see him kind of put this into practice, the social skills here into practice that he's teaching us about.
