https://youtu.be/yXkgRoQbuUI Lift Heavy Run Long #212 got us back together and back on track after an extended break. We were fortunate enough to have our friend Derek Baker be willing to sit down and visit with us. Derek is a 20+ veteran of the Navy and spent a great deal of time in the bodybuilding/powerlifting space before a youtube video got him to thinking about what it would be like to run an ultra-marathon. Derek committed himself to running an ultra-marathon before he had even complete his first mile. He, admittedly, did not have any idea what he was doing and just decided to hit the bricks and start running. Derek signed up for  a 50K and in 5-weeks had dropped almost 35 pounds and was carrying significantly less weight than his previous 250lb frame was use to carrying. Ever since his first ultra, he has been on a tear. Derek has finished 2- 100mile races (one of which was on a treadmill!). Just last week he completed the Barkley Fall Classic and has more races coming down the pipes. Often described as the humble and "PG" version of David Goggins, Derek's intensity, focus, kindness and humility are some of the things that make him such a jewel in the trail-running community. I am sure that you will enjoy our time that we spent with Derek just as much as we did!!   Thanks for tuning it.

https://youtu.be/jGi0ObwtU9U So, I really, really like Melisa Burgess. Who doesn't? Everybody does. She is a close friend of the LHRL® community. When Melisa has a panic attack on the side of a cliff at this year's Sylamore 25k/50k, there were 2 complete strangers who stopped their race and literally talked Melisa down from the edge. They spoke to her, held her hand and walked her to safety. I don't know if I am making a bigger deal out of it than necessary or maybe it is my selfish nature that makes it so hard for me to get a grasp on how any two stranger could be so altruistic. Anyways, meet Becky Duncan and Caleb Sweazy. These are the two very fine people who were kind enough to stop and take care of our friend. We sat down and chatted with them and had the opportunity to learn more about them as people. They did not disappoint. I have always loved getting to know new people on the podcast, Becky and Caleb are no exception. They give a whole new meaning to "Be good to others." Any trail-runner worth their salt-stick knows that a trail race is about more than their finish time. Becky and Caleb proved this to be very, very true.

Michael is a resident of Wynn, Arkansas and an advocate of the trail running community. At one point in time, Michael weighted almost 400lbs before making some changes in his nutrition and buying a bike. It wasn't long before he found himself shedding some lbs and feeling comfortable enough to try his hand at running. After a few 5ks, he had caught the bug. It wasn't long until he complete his first trail run at the Sylamore 25k and decided to put on a race of his own as the Race Director of Village Creek 10K/25K. Village Creek just finished up it's 8th year and the first annual Almira 50miler and marathon will take place on May 1, 2021. Sears used to sell houses. Before every city had a Walmart, most Americans got their stuff from mail-order catalogs, such as Sears. Among its many, many offerings were so-called "kit houses," or entire homes that were shipped on a train. You had to assemble the house yourself using the 75-page instruction book. It was like Ikea on steroids. There's an encrypted monument outside the CIA. A sculpture outside CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, fittingly includes uncracked codes. There is no youtube video this week.....sorry, the recorder goofed. Y'all wanna talk about it? Let's talk about it. Here is what we talked about it..... Wilson got glasses and stopped wearing them cause he cant see(?). Two-below, all-time-quarterback and ghost runners. Did you play that? Mind of a serial killer. Amanda got to see her hero, Amy Grant. Von was the guy who could play Stairway to Heaven in 8th grade. (I'm soooooo jeolous!!) Village Creek Wilson injured himself while getting up to take a pee in the middle of the night....athletically. If for whatever reason, you are buying a treadmill...do not buy NordicTrack. The great peanut butter argument. Upcoming races. Christmas in January Back in the CF gym. Amanda is back on track and killing it. We are out of 5-star reviews so please go leave one. Leave Review Here.Have a great week everyone!

https://youtu.be/srHz1gmGfmk This week on the Lift Heavy Run Long® Podcast we are back in full swing after an awesome holiday season. Everyone is so stoked about 2020 and the energy is good. On episode #174  we had our favorite guest, Gary Owens and we discuss the following: NordicTrack continues to suck. 6 weeks into a service call/warranty issue and no one has addressed it. They actually fired the last service tech that was scheduled to repair. Big Thirsty gets everyone's goals for the new year. Gary Owens officially kinda announces his attempt to break the 100mile record at Tunnel Hill in 2020. We read one review and save the other one...because having reviews is awesome. Wilson got glasses but can't see out of them. Not sure it is supposed to work that way. Are mexican cokes healthier than 'merican cokes? We ramble on about some other fitness stuff but it's all pretty stupid, really....but you already knew that.

We do manage to talk about lifting and running at least a little as we discuss training plans and running a marathon at Herb Parsons on New Year's Day weekend. Also, the St. Jude marathon is this weekend in Memphis which means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. It is always a good time when lots of new friends are met and goals are reached.

He is taking over the Stanky Creek Race in September which was formerly directed by Mike Samuelson. There was so much support, so many first-timers and so many incredible stories of guts and toughness. I am very tired and my brain doesn't work so that is all that I am going to say about that. I hope you enjoy the episode.

https://youtu.be/LX8ZW1JQPD0 Von says that the first day after daylight savings time is cursed and Thirsty gets the chaff. What do these things have in common? Probably nothing, which coincidentally is the same as most of our topics. FB live was not working and Brian wanted to stream it from his computer. Wilson resists because he hates crappy audio. Von argues on behalf of Brian and ultimately wins....thereby single-handedly ruining the future of LHRL. Von ditches FB app BUT...he is willing to give you a live webinar where he will share his secrets to becoming a millionaire, if you provide an email address and a credit card number. Amanda and Brian run the Big River Half. Everyone is geared up for Tunnel Hill. Wilson still claims to enjoy the treadmill. Google buys Fitbit even though Fitbit is burning folks' arms up. It is another great episode and we hope you enjoy it.

https://youtu.be/VBOzxy16pGU We got the band back together. It seems like it has been forever since the four of us have been on the same podcast together. Life has been hectic, so we have been adjusting schedules to make sure that we can all be together. On Lift Heavy Run Long #166 we talk about Walking Tall 50k and The World's Greatest Aid Station. It seems that Amanda and Von get just as much out of helping people to finish a race than they do running the race itself. We have Tunnel Hill coming up next week and there is always a wonderful turnout of LHRL people. So excited for that! Wilson has been waddling around on the treadmill and has rediscovered how much listening to music affects his enjoyment of running. He has also realized that he is very old and that running fast is a bad idea. Wade's Big Adventure was literally underwater. People had to swim parts of the trail race with portions that had water over 2' over their heads. Vicki Thunstrom has harnessed the power of a McDonald's cheeseburger and fries and PR'ing her deadlift because of it, thereby coining the hashtag #McDeadlift. It was a great show and we hope you all enjoy it. Monday's will likely be our new podcast time for the foreseeable future. Until next week!

Wilson was accosted by the other hosts because they are envious of his fashionable Crocs. Von believes that Crocs are a gateway drug to Nickelback. Haters gonna hate.

https://youtu.be/dZ79svwqEBE Lift Heavy Run Long® #164- Ultra season is fast approaching. In the mid-south, it appears that summer is going to last forever. Wilson thinks it ends next week; Thirtsy thinks we have one more heat wave coming at us. The 24-hour race is coming up. Last year Wilson had a wardrobe malfunction, as his nipple covers kept falling off. Von doesn't need nipple covers because his are so powerful. It's like he has titanium tits. Von gets reprimanded by his neighborhood association for using dirty words. He also tells me my favorite story of the time when Old Man Larry's son got pissed because Von called his dad, Old Man Larry. Is it important that members do good reps in a CrossFit gym or just mind your own business? Should coaches coach when members don't want to be told what to do? We had two reviews so my life is pretty much complete. Tune in next week and we will see what other sort of ridiculousness is in store. Thanks for listening and being a part of Lift Heavy Run Long!

https://youtu.be/UQQQcd3XL4A Von was out because he lost his voice, which is kinda needed for a podcast. We had Slammin Sammy Renfrow work the camera and act as a host. Sam is one of the LHRL community's favorite people and I hope to have him fill in more often. Amanda is out of her boot and ready to get back in the swing of things. Thirsty sold his downtown condo, leaving hundreds of friends and family members with no place to pee or shower when attending downtown events. Wilson has a new lemonade habit but he has fought worse demons.   The CrossFit Open is coming up...and no one gives a shit. We reached deep and brought out a hypothetical: "Would you rather be 65 years old and have $50million in the bank or be 10 years old and know everything that you do right now?" We all chose to go back to 10, except for Sammy. Sammy was all about the rich geezer jam. Thanks for listening. Tune in next week. Same bat time, same bat place.
