Az októberi SzubZsánerben Andy Weir: Artemis című regényéről beszélgettünk a NASA Artemis missziójának tükrében meghívott vendégünkkel, Ordasi András csillagásszal, aki sok minden egyéb mellett tudománykommunikációval is foglakozik, míg a csillagászatot és az űrkutatást nem a hagyományos, megszokott módszerekkel közvetíti. https://parallaxis.blog.hu/2022/10/03/szub_ep8 https://youtu.be/lxaooHSnfQk A Parallaxis Patreon oldalán támogatóink számára még a premier előtt elérhetővé tesszük podcastjeink legújabb epizódját! https://www.patreon.com/parallaxis Podcastjeink epizódjai elérhetőek Facebookon, Soundcloud- és YouTube-csatornánkon, valamint Google Podcasts-en, iTunes-on és Spotify-on is! It's getting hot outside, which means it's the time of year when many blogs are sharing their annual Summer Reading Lists™, mostly filled with big thick theology books and historical works. Which is… fine. But is that the best way to use your reading time when you actually get to go on vacation? That's what we're talking on this episode over donuts made in my kitchen. Listen in as we get fatter and happier discussing: Two good approaches to summer reading The time Dave watched Jaws before going to the beach If it's a good idea to read on the beach at all The kinds of books you should (and shouldn't) read on vacation The character Aaron wants to punch in the face Also, when the heck are we going to finally discuss The Notebook? As always, thanks to Lagares Roasters for partnering with us to make the Table of (mal)Contents blend. Pick up a bag (or 12) today. Some of the books we mentioned on this episode include: The Caine Mutiny by Herman Wouk In Harm's Way by Doug Stanton The Cartel by Don Winslow The Genius Files: Mission Unstoppable by Dan Gutman Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins The Martian by Andy Weir Artemis by Andy Weir Juliet, Naked by Nick Hornby The Virtues of War by Steven Pressfield The Gateway Chronicles by K.B. Hoyle The Maze Runner series by James Dashner Bonus content: Weekend Update featuring Buford Calloway (the origin of the "Dixie Champagne" reference)

Felemás módon indult a The X-Files 11. What Happened to Monday?, John Wick: Chapter 2, The Villainess, Kong: Skull Island, Logan Lucky, American Assassin, Free Fire éééééés... ...ééééééés…! GEOSTORM!!! :D ...és amikor azt hiszed, ez már a vég… Akkor jön mai főtémánk: Resident Evil: The Last Chapter. Good afternoon everyone and welcome to another edition of The Avid Reader. Today our guest is Andy Weir, author of The Martian and most recently Artemis published by Crown just a month or so ago. Artemis is a story of the moon. Once again, as in The Martian Andy couples both hard science and a character driven plot, but this time it is coupled with a story of intrigue, murder and mystery. As many of you know, Andy’s success story stems from his self published The Martian, picked up by Crown in 2014 and then made into the blockbuster movie starring Matt Damon in less time than you can say Jack Robinson and Artemis seems destined for the same fate. Its story is almost a template for a screenplay and the novel is almost cinematic in its approach. Jazz Bashar is a petty criminal who is a smuggler of questionable goods to the populus of the Moon’s sole city, Artemis. From there we are led on a trail of murder and sabotage culminating in an ending that leaves us expecting more from a next book.

It's Friday! And we're one week closer to Christmas. It's all too easy this time of year to get sucked into the vortex of presents and shopping, so we encourage you to listen to this podcast while you're doing something non commercial-holiday related. Maybe it's time to vacuum the spare bedroom... or clean out that closet you said you would clean out last year. With Brian and Anna (aka Mangodroplet) at the helm, we're going to be talking about a pretty heavy, and very relevant, topic. Sexual harassment, and the "Me Too" phenom, is a vital conversation to have and I think you'll find that our hosts do it justice. In This Episode Welcome Mangodroplet! What do you nerd out about? Gaming community Overwatch Sexual Harassment Anna's "Me Too" story Andy Weir's new book "Artemis" HOLIDAY LIGHTS! Me Too Did you know #MeToo isn't all that new? It went viral in October of this year, but the phrase was actually adopted by a social activist on MySpace back in '06! Tarana Burke created the concept as part of her campaign, whose objective was to promote empowerment through empathy among women of color who experienced abuse. The origin of the phrase, in Tarana's usage of it, is quite revealing and still indicative of our culture today. A young girl confided to Tarana that she had been a victim of sexual abuse and Tarana didn't know what to say. Later on, she says, she had wished she said to the girl: Me too. Talking about sexual harassment is difficult. There are so many victims, friends and family of victims. There are accusers who've been dismissed, and accused who are innocent. There is so much baggage that talking about it can seem fruitless or insurmountable or intimidating. But that often is the case for issues that have such emotional depths tied to them, isn't it? Wherever there are deep emotional wounds there will be issues that are difficult to talk about. This is one of those issues that I like to say needs to undergo a "demystification process". Talking about it, opening the floor for discussion, and, most importantly, listening to others (particularly those who are trying to articulate how the abuse took place) are all important steps in helping to take the mystery and the insurmountable feeling out of the issue. Providing context for abuse can help others to recognize it, it can correct wrong ways of thinking. But we have to be willing to get a little uncomfortable in order to get anywhere.
