Kelly Slater's controversial Tahiti wild card, Outerknown's connection to the WSL event, and the future of professional surfing lead this episode of the Pinch My Salt surf podcast. Sterling Spencer and Cousin Ryan debate whether Kelly Slater deserves the Tahiti Pro wild card, whether a sponsor should be able to put its own co-founder into a World Surf League contest, and whether the 11-time world champion can still win in heavy Tahiti barrels. We also break down the biggest surf news, viral surfing clips, surf culture debates, and pro surfing controversies: Louis Vuitton and Pharrell bringing Mikey February, Raimana and twin-fin surfboards into high fashion; Jack Johnson getting caught riding a soft-top surfboard; Rob Machado's effortless surfing technique and pop-up; Kai Lenny's surf training; wave-pool airs versus real ocean surfing; surf etiquette, women getting waves, dangerous kooks, Blue Crush, Keala Kennelly, Alana Blanchard, women's surf history, Paris Hilton surfing a wave pool, WSL judging, Griffin Colapinto, Ethan Ewing, Jack Robinson, Tom Curren, Skip Frye and the question every core surfer is asking—is surf culture dying? This is surf comedy, surf commentary and honest surf-industry talk for fans of WSL surfing, classic surf videos, surf podcasts and core surf culture worldwide.Did Kelly Slater earn the Tahiti wild card—or did Kelly and Outerknown find a way to give themselves a spot in the contest? Sterling and Ryan agree that surfing is better with Kelly in it, but question whether another young Tahitian or up-and-coming surfer should have received the opportunity. The boys also discuss why professional surfing struggles to create stars, whether the WSL needs legendary surfers such as Kelly Slater, Tom Curren and Tom Carroll judging events, and why current surf contests feel disconnected from the culture that created them.Drop your opinion in the comments:

Sterling Spencer and Cousin Ryan call Luke live from Raglan to get the inside scoop on what was really happening behind the scenes at the contest, from boring heats and bad conditions to pro surfer energy, local New Zealand surf culture, WSL event vibes, and whether the whole thing was a huge fail or just classic surfing chaos. In this episode of the Pinch My Salt Podcast, Sterling Spencer and Ryan Spencer roast, react, and break down the biggest surf clips of the week, including the WSL quietly selling its stake in the Kelly Slater Surf Ranch, the future of wave pools, Filipe Toledo riding a twin fin in competition, Kelly Slater's old-school Gold Coast surfing, Tom Curren's legendary style, Dane Kealoha footage, shark chase clips, garage surf training, skimboarding madness, pro surfers becoming real estate agents, and the eternal question: is modern competitive surfing actually fun to watch?Luke Cederman brings the perfect Raglan chaos to the show as the guys ask what the WSL New Zealand event was really like from inside the scene. We are so honored to have today's guest with us for an inside look at a groundbreaking case in the field of special education litigation. Jack Robinson is a partner and co-founder of Spies, Powers, and Robinson, a law firm located in Denver, Colorado. He took one of the biggest cases in special education all the way to the US Supreme Court in 2017. In Endrew F. v. Douglas County School District, Jack represented a family that sued their school district, claiming it did not provide their autistic son with an adequate education as required by federal law. The monumental Supreme Court ruling in the case raised the standard that schools must meet in educating students with disabilities, potentially impacting millions of students across the country. Show Highlights:How the background on the Endrew F. case actually began with the Supreme Court ruling on the Thompson School District v. Luke P. case in 2008Why the Endrew F. case originated because the child was making no progress or advancement on IEP goals or objectives, along with regressing behaviorWhy it's disheartening when the concept of what's “right for the child” is completely ignoredWhere the state of our education system is right now, with no spirit of collaboration with parents and a predominant “Us vs. Them” mentalityThe basic timeline of the Endrew F. caseHow due process and appeals in special education cases can take years, years, and more yearsLinks/Resources:Contact us on social media or through our website for more information on the IEP Learning Center: www.inclusiveeducationproject.org Thank you for listening!
