Three veterans' sons coming together to discuss all things D-Day 80. Facts, stats, legacy, beaches, movies and … more beaches. A discussion amongst Angus Wallace of the WW2 Podcast, Steve Erskine, curator and researcher at the Green Howard's museum and myself, Paul Cheall. PS During the discussion, I dismally failed to answer Angus's question about how many chapters of Dad's book covered the beaches. The answer is …. One! There are five chapters in total for the Normandy campaign itself!  Buy Me a Coffee https://www.buymeacoffee.com/fightingthrough Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/FightingThrough   Full show notes, photos and transcript at: https://www.fightingthroughpodcast.co.uk/101-Legacy-of-D-Day-discussion-WWII    Reviews on main website:https://www.fightingthroughpodcast.co.uk/reviews/new/ Follow me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FightingThroughPodcast Follow me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/PaulCheall YouTube Channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnlqRO9MdFBUrKM6ExEOzVQ?view_as=subscriber

The Indian Army was the largest volunteer army during the Second World War. Indian Army divisions fought in the Middle East, North Africa and Italy - and went to make up the overwhelming majority of the troops in South East Asia. Over two million personnel served in the Indian Army. I'm Angus Wallace, and in this episode, I am joined by Dr Alan Jefferys to discuss how the Indian Army developed a more comprehensive training structure than any other Commonwealth country during WWII. This was achieved through both the dissemination of doctrine and the professionalism of a small cadre of Indian Army officers who brought about a military culture within the Indian Army - starting in the 1930s - that came to fruition during the Second World War. Alan is the Head of Equipment and Uniform at the National Army Museum and the author of Approach to Battle: Training the Indian Army During the Second World War. Patreonpatreon.com/ww2podcast

"The ancient world had its fair share of brave and courageous men, who stayed the course despite profound adversity or who seemed to laugh in the face of death. However, our sources also include accounts of people who – out of fear, for personal gain, or some combination of these and other factors – decided to betray their friends, their country, or their principles."

"With Marcus Aurelius, the Roman Empire was for the first time ruled by two emperors, both adoptive sons of the late Emperor Antoninus Pius (r. AD 138–161). Marcus had selected his nine-year-younger adoptive brother Lucius Verus to be his co-emperor. The two individuals could not have been more different in character. While the ascetic Marcus, whose main interest was philosophy, had been taught to “avoid the ways of the rich” (Meditations 1.3.), critics declaimed against Lucius' luxurious lifestyle and his habits."
