From Hero To Zero: The Rise Of Non-Alc Beer

The Crafty Pint Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 24, 2026 66:22

“I don't see any ceiling for non-alc beer.”It's fair to say there were plenty of skeptics when non-alcoholic beer first started to appear in earnest in the local beer scene. Yet, in the half-decade-plus since we ran a blind tasting featuring early entrants to the market, the sector has grown and grown. While some brands have come and gone, there's a growing number of established brands and many other breweries for whom their non-alc range forms a significant part of their sales. What's more, Bridge Road Brewers and, more recently, Heaps Normal have started putting non-alc beer on tap.To assess where the market sits, where it could be heading, and why it's come so far already, we pulled together a panel from different facets of the beer world.Molly Rose founder Nic Sandery is the brewer behind both Molly Rose and Hiatus non-alcs, Sam Bethune is a former brewer who's now a technical sales specialist at Bintani, and former Fixation main man Tom Delmont brings a sales and brand perspective from his role at Hop Nation, who produce a broad range of alcohol-free beers. We look at advances in technology, processes and ingredients, the dos and don'ts of non-alc brewing, take lessons from overseas, and attempt a spot of crystal ball-gazing.This week's opening is a global affair with James recently landed in London amid a European heatwave that looks a lot like Australia in January – albeit without aircon... We discuss two venue openings in the Yarra Valley and the Sunshine Coast, the relaunch of the Tasmanian Beer Trail, and our plans for a hiatus of sorts of our own.Throughout July, we'll still be reviewing the week in beer on the show, but instead of featuring new longform interviews we'll be running some of our favourites from the past two years. With James in the UK and our producer heading to the US soon – plus a major new project coming to a head – we didn't want to risk breaking ourselves any more than we already do!Start of segments: 0:00 – The Week On Crafty 16:21 – Price Screen & Digital 17:26 – Non-Alc Panel Part 1 39:08 – Industry Insights With American Canning Machines 40:15 – Non-Alc Panel Part 2To find out more about featuring on The Crafty Pint Podcast or otherwise partnering with The Crafty Pint, contact craig@craftypint.com.

Is It Really Anxiety? Understanding What's Really Going On With Your DogIs your dog truly anxious, or could something else be driving their behaviour? In this episode of Pawsitively Spoilt, Tanya sits down with dog behaviour expert Sarah Rutten to unpack one of the most commonly used (and often misunderstood) terms in the dog world: anxiety. Together, they explore what canine anxiety actually looks like, why the label is often overused, and how owners can tell the difference between genuine anxiety and behaviours caused by boredom, lack of boundaries, learned habits, or simply a cheeky personality. Sarah shares practical advice on recognising the true signs of anxiety in dogs, what steps owners should take if they're concerned, and when it's time to seek professional help. They also discuss calming products, supplements, medications, and whether they're being used appropriately in today's pet industry. If you've ever wondered whether your dog's behaviour is anxiety, attention-seeking, frustration, or something else entirely, this episode will help you better understand your dog and make more informed decisions about their wellbeing. In this episode, you'll learn: What canine anxiety actually is  Common behaviours that are mistaken for anxiety  How to identify genuine signs of stress and anxiety  When to seek professional behavioural support  Practical ways to help an anxious dog  The truth about calming products and medications Whether you're raising a puppy, supporting a rescue dog, or navigating behaviour changes in an older dog, this conversation is packed with valuable insights for dog owners.Sarah Rutten Dip CBST KPA CTP CPDT-KA is a bestselling author, keynote speaker, canine behaviourist, and welfare advocate who has spent over 20 years helping humans and dogs actually understand each other. In this episode of the Talk Design podcast, host Adrian sits down with Greg, a highly sought-after commercial photographer with over 36 years of experience. A fellow Kiwi now living on the Sunshine Coast, Greg brings a wealth of technical knowledge, a fantastic sense of humor, and a uniquely grounded perspective on the creative industry.Greg shares his origin story, from growing up in New Zealand with a fine artist father and a speech-and-drama teacher mother, to getting his first big break as a photography assistant (which included a memorable incident of falling asleep in the darkroom after a big rugby night out). They discuss the massive shift from the unforgiving days of film to the limitless possibilities of digital photography and post-production.The conversation takes a deep dive into the world of architectural and real estate photography. Greg explains how he finds the "hero shot" of a property, why he still looks through the viewfinder rather than the digital screen to stay immersed in the environment, and the challenges of shooting million-dollar homes (hint: architects, please include a ladder cupboard in your designs!).Adrian and Greg also trade their best "hacks" for the creative process. They discuss the power of taking 12-minute power naps, using essential oils like peppermint to spark afternoon energy, drawing inspiration from clear quartz crystals, and Adrian's genius trick for making nervous portrait subjects instantly relax. In this series of empowerments and transmissions, we will be downloading the codes and insights that Gene just received from his visit to Mt. Coolum and the Sunshine Coast in Australia.  The land spirits and ancestors there in the spiritual worlds as well as all land spirits and ancestors around the world, gave certain universal downloads during the trip.  This is the third of three transmissions.3) Telepathy-We are all telepathic.  The amount we are fully conscious of the thoughts, emotions, and energetic impact of others is variable; but, we all both have an effect on others with our mind, emotions, and energy and they have an effect on us.  For most, these effects are subliminal and subconscious.  This transmission both sharpens our telepathy and also the deep recognition that we are interconnected with everything in the universe both animate and inanimate.  We are dreaming and creating this universe.  Once we recognize and fully acknowledge this interconnectedness we see that everything is alive with energy and consciousness.  We are in constant communication with all that is.  Also, once we open up to a divine will and not our local mind's will, we see the beauty of this interconnectedness that brings our life into harmony.  We access the same wisdom. intelligence, and power giving rise to the perfect movement and alignment of the stars, planets, and galaxies. Please join us for these three important and joyous transmissions.  If you are looking to access wonder, meaning, and purpose in your life then these transmissions will assist you in remembering this inside yourself.  We also access these inner world guardian angels, Masters, and Guides who have been helping us through time and eternity to remember these inner truths within ourselves.

A corporate publishing executive in London doesn't usually end up teaching people how to access the Akashic Records, but Sam Lennie's story makes the path feel surprisingly logical. We talk through the real turning points: burnout, a “bridge job,” and the morning she woke up hearing a clear instruction to study reflexology. From there, her work expands into Reiki, mentoring, and a deeper trust in spirit-led decision-making, including the leap from Sydney to the Sunshine Coast and the feeling of “this is it” in her body.We slow down and get practical about the Akashic Records: what they are, how a reading works, what kind of information comes through, and why Sam doesn't treat it like a psychic prediction tool. The focus stays on clarity, healing, and the present moment, because that's where sovereignty is built. If you're tired of outsourcing your next move to experts, algorithms, or other people's opinions, this conversation offers a different kind of guidance, one that strengthens your self-trust muscle over time.We also connect the dots to Human Design and marketing. Sam shares how Human Design can feel like confirmation of who you already are, and why choosing the right platform matters for an aligned personal brand. We end with a grounded look at Substack as a calmer marketing channel for long-form writing, community, and growth that doesn't require constant social media intensity.Subscribe for more Human Design for marketing insights, share this with a friend who's mid-pivot, and leave a review to help more people find the show.Connect with Sam:InstagramSubstackBook Akashic reading with Sam----------------------------------Please come say hi!Join the Human Design for Marketing FB group, here where I go behind the episode scenes and answer your questionsFollow me on IGCheckout our YouTube channelDownload your Human Design chartDownload your custom Human Design for Marketing Reading (report) + Frieda

We'll get our lawyer Denis Denuto to look into it, but that's a story for another time.Technology.....it's an ongoing issue and everyone has an opinion. Today we hear a few, and discuss.Firstly, a YouTube comment saying that Nick and Mark are looking at the rollback of gear all wrong, and they explain why. Then a voicemail from Rob on the Sunshine Coast with a suggestion on how to deal with long hitters.. Keith has a very good question about what might need to happen to the other clubs if the Driver is wound back. Then we discuss if a juiced up golf tournament might be fun, in the spirit of the enhanced games in Las Vegas. Could it work? Dunno. But it would be fun to watch.Nick heard a voicemail on Talk Birdie at the weekend from wolfpacker Paul with his solution on the length issue....and had a couple of comments about the number of clubs in the bag, and we finish with a crack at the PGA from Drew who reckons that they've got it wrong. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Hostplus, Talk Birdie To Me's official retirement partnerBMW, luxury and comfort for the 19th hole;Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best;Golf Clearance Outlet, they beat everyone's prices;Betr, the fastest and easiest betting app in Australia; The Find My Player app - follow every player on every tour; And Southern Golf Club. The Surfer’s Journal presents Soundings with Jamie Brisick

Born in 1984, Kai Neville came to surfing at age 11 on the Sunshine Coast, where his dad pushed him into his first waves. He loved it, aspired to be a pro, but soon realized he might be better off behind the camera rather than in front of it. He got a job at McDonald's, saved up for a High-8 Sony Handycam, and started creating short surf films, which led to a job making promo DVDs for Australia's Surfing Life magazine, and then a gig working with renowned filmmaker Taylor Steele. Under Steele, Neville got a crash course in surf filmmaking when he worked on 2008's Stranger Than Fiction, for which he was a videographer and editor.  Neville's first major surf film, 2010's Modern Collective, landed with a major splash. Not only did it announce a group of surfers that would define the decade to come—Jordy Smith, Dane Reynolds, Dion Agius, Yadin Nicol, Mitch Coleborn, Dusty Payne, and Craig Anderson—but it announced Neville's singular vision as the lenspiece of a new generation.  Then came Lost Atlas in 2011, Dear Suburbia in 2012, and Cluster in 2015—all of them oozing with innovative surfing. The Neville thumbprint is distinctive: He has a love of unbridled aerialists. His musical tastes are broad and experimental. His titles are also as eclectic as his eye. For instance, his shorts: "The Quieter You Are, The More You Can Hear." "Welcome Elsewhere." "No One Knows Me Like the Ocean." Along with his surf films, Kai is an accomplished commercial director and photographer, working with brands like Corona, Nike, IWC, Schaffhausen, and Shiseido. He also loves print media, and co-founded What Youth with Travis Ferre. Today, Neville lives with his wife and two boys in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, not far from Byron Bay. In this episode of Soundings, Neville talks with Jamie Brisick about chasing creativity, learning his trade under Taylor Steele, the magnetism of misfit surfers, the art of titling and soundtracking, his enduring love for print, and the grind behind some of his most iconic films.  Presented by Rainbow® Sandals. Dr. Shane Simonsen is an Australian experimental farmer, author, podcaster, and thinker based in the subtropical Sunshine Coast hinterland of Queensland (on around 40 acres among the Glasshouse Mountains). He holds a PhD in biochemistry and previously worked in academia and as a teacher before leaving in his late 20s — disillusioned by institutional structures, the global financial crisis, and concerns over peak oil— to pursue independent work in biology, ecology, and sustainable systems. For the last decade he obsessively developed hardy staple crops for his little mountain village. Australia is uniquely vulnerable to energy system disruptions and totally unprepared for post-industrial agriculture. Shane blogs weekly at Recombination Nation.  His podcast of the same name interviews amateur plant breeders, geopolitical experts and culture innovators. His non-fiction book Taming the Apocalypse explores a post-industrial future built purely on biological technology  He also wrote a novel under the nom-de-plume Haldane P. Doyle, Our Vitreous Womb, imagining a biotechnological civilization in the distant future.
