Our third mystery movie in May-stery is Crossword Mysteries: A Puzzle to Die For, starring Lacey Chabert as Tess, a sassy crossword editor and Brennan Elliot as Logan O'Connor, a no nonsense detective. Tess realizes that clues to art heists are being hidden in her paper's crossword puzzles and has to convince Logan to help her solve the case. In this episode Corinne cannot contain her many ping pong facts, we break free from the bang chains that have been haunting us our whole lives and discuss our high tech surveillance practices which involve ear horns and tin cans with string. In this podcast episode, Kayla and I review two of the newest releases from Hallmark Channel titled Open by Christmas starring Allison Sweeney, Brennan Elliot and Erica Durance. As well as My Family Christmas Tree starring Aimee Teagarden, Andrew Walker and James Tupper. Neither of us like Open by Christmas. We both feel that the storyline with the supporting characters was much better and should have been the lead storyline. I personally feel that Brennan and Allison were used in this movie for their "names". That's it. Their storyline was boring. My Family Christmas Tree was good. We both liked the movie. We just didn't like the DNA snafu and couldn't understand how that was solved. We both think it would have been better off if Vanessa wasn't a daughter and the family said "who cares. You're part of the family anyway." Or that the DNA snafu had never occurred in the first place. Kayla gives Open by Christmas 1.5/5 stars. I give it 2 stars. On paper, this should be the quintessential holiday AND Hallmark movie: Mean Girls' Lacey Chabert runs out of her family's toaster strudel savings and has to move back to Idaho, where she meets sentient mashed potato and former high school classmate Danny (Hallmark mainstay Brennan Elliot), who happens to be the music teacher at her daughter's new school. Meanwhile her wacky aunt Sara (Hocus Pocus' Kathy Najimy) is valiantly casting spells and hexes to maintain the stability of a reality where Mariah Carey (Glitter, which we can't believe we didn't mention once) is the star and director of a Christmas movie where nobody sings or even hums "All I Want for Christmas Is You."
