At about 12 years of age, I began working for my father, loading bundles into the two delivery trucks used in his small business. This required that, first, I back the trucks down an alley and into the loading bay. Thus, I learned to drive going backward, which probably says something fundamental about me.But even at 12, I didn't get stuck in reverse, as today's Republican Congress has. The GOP's autocratic ideologues and corporate toadies are spurning hard-won, economic, social, environmental, and other progress made by generations of grassroots Americans. They are trying to drive our people back to Robber Baron rule and Jim Crow law.Indeed, no progressive advance today escapes the wrath of the GOP's ideological swat squad. Consider the operatic political frenzy they're now stirring up over Post Office trucks. Yes, that ubiquitous fleet of red, white, and blue mail delivery vehicles you see on every street and rural road in America. Those gas-powered workhorses, now 35 years old, are way overdue for replacement. Sensibly, the Postal Service is buying fuel-efficient, non-polluting, electric vehicles, which include such basics as airbags and air conditioning. But no, squealed extreme right-wingers like Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa. She condemns the very idea of a battery-powered fleet as lefty “wokeness.” So she's demanding that Congress literally defund the purchase of EVs, forcing the Postal Service to go backward to inefficient, polluting trucks fueled by Big Oil – an industry that just happens to be a generous funder of her career. To get a clear-eyed view of which are the best vehicles to take us way forward, don't ask a corporate-owned ideologue; ask the postal workers who drive them. This episode Justin Garner, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, provides some great learning on behavior chains and the process of chaining. Justin starts by breaking down the process of chaining while giving practical application examples. The discussion then dives into how a behavior chain works and dissects what it means for each behavior in the chain to serve as both a discriminative stimulus and a conditioned reinforcer. Justin then explains the difference between backward and forward chaining and why it is recommended to utilize backward chaining. The discussion ends with advice on preventing behavior chain breakdown and an explanation on the difference between shaping and chaining. Stay tuned in for Justin's "Training Tale" about a team and a mob of macropods reaching new heights in training. Two roller coasters. Only one seemed like a real option to me. I should point out that I really don't ride roller coasters much. "Because you're chicken," you say. No, because I'm too short. I just don't measure up to that little height chart that they have at the entrance to the coaster. Actually, I have a friend who declines roller coaster invitations by saying, "I can't. I have an inner ear problem." I like that. I may have to remember that one. For whatever reason, my rides on roller coasters are few and far between. But at this particular amusement park that I visited a few years ago, they had two roller coasters side by side and two lines to get to them. Over one line was a sign that said, "Forward." Over the other line, a sign that said - yeah, you guessed it - "Backward." You can ride looking forward or looking backward. Like this is a choice? I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Looking Backward, Missing What's Ahead." There are two lines in life, and two cars you can ride in. One says, "Forward" and the other says, "Backward." You choose. Frankly, I don't want to ride looking back at where I've already been. I want to ride looking ahead to where I'm going. I hope you do, too. And that's what God wants for you. In our word for today from the Word of God in Isaiah 43:18-19 - some of my anchor verses. Here's what He says: "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland." God wants today to be the first day of the rest of your life, not just another day of what your life has been up until now. This can be page one of a whole new volume or just another page of the same old story. Maybe you've been riding too long looking backward. You keep rehearsing and reliving the hurt of your past, your failures, and the regrets over what you've done or what you should have done. But that's the past, and none of it can be changed. But if you don't move beyond the pain, the anger, the bitterness, the self-pity, the grief, and the self-condemnation - if you keep dwelling on that, you'll miss the part of your life that can be changed - the future. One of God's great representatives, Paul, said, "Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:13-14). Jesus is the Lord of new beginnings, of fresh starts, of clean slates. You need to come to Him and let Him release you from being tied to the people who've hurt you, by getting His grace to forgive them. You need to ask His help to begin to define your life, not by what has happened, but by what's going to happen; what can happen because of Jesus in your life. Just a few verses after God's call to forget the past and go for His new thing, He tells us how that's possible. He says, "I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions...and remembers your sins no more" (Isaiah 43:25). That's what Jesus wants to do for you. It's why He died on that cross and why He rose again from His grave. He paid the death penalty for every wrong thing you've ever done so He could erase your sin from God's book forever, because otherwise, your sin will cost you heaven. A new beginning. A fresh start. A clean slate. If you're at the point in your life where that's what you want, then it's time to open up your life to Jesus Christ. He's the Lord of new beginnings. You can reach out to Him right where you are and tell Him something like this, "Jesus, I'm done running my own life, I'm turning it over for You to run. I'm grabbing you with both hands because you died for my sin and I want today to be the first day of a new life; of a new me." There's a lot more great information about this at our website and I pray you'll go there today. It's ANewStory.com. You've been looking back long enough. There's no reason your life has to be just more of what it's been before, because Jesus has come to you today. And with Jesus, your life will never be the same again.
How is it that during the era of Trump and Con Inc. Twitter, we seem to embrace so many good ideas, and Trump even embarks on implementing some of them, yet over time we continue to slide backward? It's because there is no follow-through and the Left evolves to bigger playing fields. I explain the "small step forward, giant leap backward" dynamic in terms of immigration, crime, abortion, culture, techno-fascism from COVID, and digital currency. Also, what is the endgame of the AI data-center agenda? There is some good news, as local residents in some counties are successfully fighting back. Red-state land rights are the civil right of our time, and you should feel empowered that we could battle this all on the local level. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In today's collective reading for Wednesday, July 9th, 2025, we dive into a ripple of regret and reflection. Someone's just realized they forgot to say thank you—but instead of bitterness, the one on the receiving end felt... guilt? This isn't about entitlement; it's about emotional echoes and overthinking kindness. A beautifully awkward moment where silence sparked self-blame instead of spite. Let's talk about the weight of unspoken gratitude and the surprising tenderness of those who assume they're the problem. #SeerineTarot #DailyCollective #UnspokenGratitude #EmotionalIntelligence #ThankYouEnergy #TarotWithDepth #HealingMessages #SensitiveSouls #EnergyCheck #TarotReflection #CollectiveReading #SpiritualInsights
In this episode of Backwards Beats, Dan and Carl dive into Bonnie Raitt's Nick of Time, a landmark album that was her breakthrough after years in the industry. They explore the album's unique blend of blues, country, folk, and soft rock, discuss the impact of its production, and highlight some of its most compelling musical moments. Along the way, they touch on Bonnie Raitt's career resilience, her Scottish ancestry (including a chilling ghost story), and her influence on modern Americana. Key Points Bonnie Raitt's Career Arc – How *Nick of Time marked her mainstream breakthrough after a decade of persistence. *Production & Sound – The album features three distinct production styles, from polished soft rock to raw, intimate blues. Musical Deep Dives* – Dan breaks down the harmonic sophistication of the title track and how the arrangement reinforces the song's storytelling. The Mystery of the 500 List – Dan and Carl debate why Nick of Time made Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums list, while Luck of the Draw, her more commercially successful follow-up, did not. JD Vance came to Los Angeles with the goal of making the case that the fear of unruly protests justifies the continued deployment of military forces of the city (and other cities), completely ignoring the fact that what the people of Los Angeles are actually afraid of is Donald Trump's militarized raids and street snatchings.
There's something quietly radical about a farmer's market. Not in the kombucha-on-tap way. Not in the tote bag aesthetic. But in the unspoken overlap of two parallel universes that pretend they have nothing in common: the crunchy granola left and the spiritually defiant right. Each arrives—often in some open-air lot outside a gentrifying neighborhood—and both believe they're escaping something. Chemicals. Corporations. Corruption. These aren't virtue-signalers buying local kale for Instagram. They're here because they don't trust the grocery store. Because they want their beef raised by someone they can look in the eye. Because they don't want corn syrup, seed oils, or mystery sludge passed down from an alphabet agency. One wears a Grateful Dead shirt. The other wears camo Crocs. They nod, politely. This is the new commons.Homeschooling as PraxisIt's not just about masks, CRT, or pronouns—or even the three hours of Zoom kindergarten that broke every parent's will. It's deeper. Homeschooling is no longer fringe. It's praxis. On the left: it means educational freedom, decolonizing the classroom, rejecting standardized obedience. On the right: it means shielding your kids from ideological capture—what they see as moral relativism and spiritual confusion dressed up as progress. But the shared root is this: they both think school is lying.Once that trust breaks—once you believe institutions aren't failing but deceiving—you stop trying to fix the system. You leave. You build your own world. You raise your kids inside it. And you stop apologizing.YouTube is the New PTAAnd then it gets weirder: these groups start finding each other. Not by intent, but by algorithm. The tradwife aesthetic. The anti-vaxx mom in a sunlit kitchen. The off-grid dad with a beard like a Civil War general, lecturing on seed oils to a banjo soundtrack. They're not in the same political tribe. But they share an aesthetic, a threat response, and a blurry nostalgia for a time before everything broke. They're trading tips on sourdough, sunlight, and sovereignty. On how to prepare children for collapse without breaking their spirit. On staying spiritually intact when your gut instincts are labeled “misinformation.”They're realizing: we may not agree on God—but we agree this isn't working. The Rise of the PurebloodIt began as a joke. Then it became a badge.“Pureblood”—a tongue-in-cheek term for the unvaccinated—morphed into a worldview. A conviction. A purity ethic with metaphysical weight. Some now refuse to date the vaccinated. Some reject blood transfusions. Some fear shedding, contamination, even spiritual corruption—language once fringe, now normalized in whole digital enclaves. Here's the uncomfortable truth: some of the loudest voices here would have once marched at Standing Rock. Others are Christian survivalists who view the vaccine not just as experimental, but profane—a defilement severing the link between God and flesh. And in the same Venn diagram? Plant medicine shamans. Urban homesteaders. Yoga moms turned goat farmers. Mushroom microdosers with white dreadlocks. They're not a movement. They're a diaspora. And somehow, they all washed up on the same island. The War on Institutional TrustThis is the real divide. Not left vs. right. Not red vs. blue. It's between those who still believe the cathedral is sacred—and those who walked out mid-sermon and started planting turnips.Science betrayed them. Media mocked them. Government gaslit them. So they went inward. Backward. Sideways. And they didn't go alone. This is what the horseshoe theory missed: it was never about extremism. It was always about distrust. And distrust, when it calcifies, becomes a kind of populism that stops asking permission. It builds its own temples. Its own schools. Its own immune systems. And then it brings its kids to the farmer's market—where the revolution smells faintly of goat cheese and patchouli, and no one asks who you voted for, only what breed your chickens are.

On this week's show we look at a technology that could end HDMI. We also read your emails and take a look at the week's news. News: Sony steps away from 8K TVs – for now Survey: Share of Homes With TV Antennas Falls to 19% DIRECTV unites streaming options under one name and price structure Peacock highlights cool features for mobile users Other: AUBESS Tuya WiFi 16A Mini Smart Switch Is GPMI the beginning of the end of HDMI? Over 50 Chinese companies including Hisense and TCL have joined forces to back an HDMI alternative called GPMI (General Purpose Media Interface). This new wired communication standard is designed to integrate multiple functionalities into a single cable, aiming to rival HDMI, DisplayPort, and Thunderbolt. The following are some key features: High Bandwidth for Data Transmission - GPMI Type-B: Supports up to 192 Gbps bandwidth, significantly surpassing HDMI 2.1 (48 Gbps), HDMI 2.2 (96 Gbps), DisplayPort 2.1 (80 Gbps), and Thunderbolt 4 (40 Gbps). GPMI Type-C: Offers up to 96 Gbps, compatible with USB-C ports, doubling the 40 Gbps limit of USB4 with Extended Power Range (EPR) under USB PD 3.1. Enables ultra-high-definition video - including 8K at 120Hz or higher, suitable for next-generation displays, gaming, and professional applications. Power Delivery GPMI Type-B: Delivers up to 480W of power, far exceeding Thunderbolt 4 (100W) and USB4 (240W with EPR). GPMI Type-C: Provides up to 240W, matching USB4 EPR capabilities. This eliminates the need for separate power cables - simplifying setups for devices like TVs, monitors, and gaming laptops. All-in-One Cable Solution - Combines video, audio, data transfer, network connectivity, and power delivery into a single cable, reducing cable clutter. Supports bidirectional data transfer - allowing devices to send and receive data simultaneously. Compatibility and Connectivity - GPMI Type-C: Licensed by the USB Implementers Forum ensuring compatibility with existing USB-C ecosystems for smartphones, PCs, and TVs. GPMI Type-B: Uses a proprietary connector, which may face adoption challenges unless widely licensed. Backward-compatible with USB-C and DisplayPort standards - easing transitions without requiring immediate hardware replacements. Universal Control and Device Management - Supports a universal control standard similar to HDMI-CEC, allowing a single remote to control multiple GPMI-connected devices Security Features - Integrates the ADCP (Advanced Digital Content Protection) protocol for secure content transmission. Supports daisy-chaining - similar to DisplayPort, for connecting multiple devices in series. Limitations and Notes While GPMI supports 8K video, HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 can handle higher resolutions (10K and 16K, respectively), though without power delivery. Adoption is currently limited to Chinese companies (e.g., Huawei, Hisense, TCL), and global traction depends on integration into mainstream devices and compatibility with non-Chinese brands like Sony, Intel, or NVIDIA. The proprietary Type-B connector may face adoption hurdles compared to the USB-C-based Type-C variant. Commercialization is planned for Q1 2025, with consumer products expected by early 2026. GPMI's combination of high bandwidth, power delivery, and multifunctionality positions it as a potential game-changer, particularly for 8K content and simplified connectivity, though its success hinges on widespread adoption and global market acceptance.
Send us a messageLet's be honest - shifting into Drive sounds exciting, but it's not always the easiest thing to do. For a lot of us, it's actually the hardest gear to live in. There's something safe about being in Park. There's something oddly comforting about looking backward in Reverse. But Drive? Drive requires action. Movement. Risk. It requires us to take our foot off the brake, step on the gas, and trust that we're heading somewhere meaningful. Most of us don't stay stuck because we don't want to move. We stay stuck because something inside us is holding us back. And for many of us, that something is fear. Fear of the unknown. Fear of failure. Fear of what might happen if we leave what's comfortable behind and step into something unfamiliar. In this final episode of the "Shifting Gears" series, we talking about shifting into "Drive". Being in Drive can be exciting but also super intimidating. Because once you're in Drive, you're moving forward. There's momentum. There's no more sitting still, no more hiding in the rearview mirror. We were created to move forward with purpose, direction, and faith.
It's tax time. No, we're not referring to a specific date. For your business, every day is tax time. Guests Jackie and Adam Williams are married and co-own Pennywise Tax Strategies, a firm focused on helping small businesses navigate tax codes to keep more of their hard-earned money. Jackie Williams is a CPA and veteran tax specialist, and Adam Williams is an attorney and serial entrepreneur who became frustrated with large tax bills. Managing a business and your business taxes is more than handing over a stack of receipts to an accountant once a year. Many business owners don't know enough about the tax system and miss opportunities to maximize earnings through intentional tax strategies throughout the year. Look at the future, not the past, when you think about taxes. Payroll, cash flow, metrics, records all matter and all fit together every day, not just at the end of the tax year. This requires a shift in your mindset. Keep more of your money, reinvest it in your business, and get more out of life. Tax strategy is not just for billionaires, it's for you. Understand incentives baked into the tax code and how you can use tactics including the switch from sole proprietor to LLC or S Corp structures. Think this isn't for you? Wait until you hear how much money, real money, you can save. Hear the actionable things you can start doing today. Today, I provide the most in-depth math behind taxes and spending in budget reconciliation and the message Republicans are lacking. Under the current trajectory, Republicans will incur the worst mix of policy and political outcomes. They are mistakenly blowing their capital on inefficient tax cuts that can easily be demagogued in exchange for fake spending cuts that will be enough to elicit political blowback but not enough to reduce inflation. I juxtapose their bill to my proposal, which would make health care reform, welfare reform, foreign labor cuts, and small business tax cuts the core of the agenda. I explain how I would deal with the expiring tax cuts differently and how our plan is much more populist in message but at the same time more conservative in outcome.
