Ukulele ambassador and songwriter, Jake Shimabukuro captivates audiences around the world with his unique and dynamic style. With his mother as his first teacher of the instrument, Jake embraced a deep love and respect for the ukulele and has explored new and unexpected ways to push the boundaries of what was possible on the humble four-string instrument. Each of his albums showcases his mastery and his ability to weave together diverse genres to create a cohesive and mesmerizing musical experience. He is undoubtedly one of the most innovative and exciting musicians of his generation, changing the perception of the instrument itself and breaking barriers of what kind of music it is capable of. Jake has enjoyed critically-acclaimed duets with artists from Willie Nelson, Ziggy Marley and Bette Midler to Jimmy Buffett, Jack Johnson and Kenny Loggins. In addition to his impeccable musicianship, Jake is also a gifted storyteller, weaving together musical narratives that draw listeners in and leave them spellbound. On his newest live album, Grateful, he wanted to bring together the power of each artist's story as he collaborated with Hawaiian music legend Henry Kapono, Mark Yamanaka, John Feary, Herb Ohta Jr., Del Beazley, Pōmaika`i Keawe, Nathan Aweau, John Cruz, Raiatea Helm, Fiji, Ron Artis II, Kimié Miner, Brother Noland, Kawika Kahiapo, Jeff Peterson, America's Got Talent contestant, Connor Johnson; Chris Kamaka & Bryan Tolentino, Jon Yamasato and Lopaka Colón, of “Pure Heart.”
THE JEREMIAH SHOW - Featuring Jake Shimabukuro! Music is a gift, and the ability to play it is a blessing. Be grateful for both. – Anonymous Acclaimed Hawai'i-born ‘ukulele player Jake Shimabukuro released Grateful, his most personal project to date, featuring twenty-two collaborations with a who's who of Hawaiian music royalty, from Henry Kapono to Kawika Kahiapo, Brother Noland to Raiatea Helm, John Feary to Bryan Tolentino and John Cruz to Kimié Miner. Recorded over three-and-a-half years, Grateful is a coming home for Shimabukuro, and his first time recording an album with all Hawaii-based artists. With a literal who's who of Hawai'i-based musicians, this collection of songs is performed live, in the studio with Shimabukuro's friends, contemporaries, mentors, and heroes - all kanikapila style in a return to his roots. Grateful is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed duets album with artists from Willie Nelson, Ziggy Marley, and Bette Midler to Jimmy Buffett, Jack Johnson, and Kenny Loggins. It was these collaborations that inspired him to go back to the beginning and play with the musicians who first inspired him as he was growing up in Hawai`i. Shimabukuro shares a connection with every artist on this album. Produced by Michael Grande and Van Fletcher, Grateful has been a labor of love and the most intimate look into Shimabukuro's foundation as a player. Webseite: www.charlie-fischer.com Insta: https://www.instagram.com/charlie_fischer_music

Looking back on it, all that we discussed two weeks ago is coming to fruition now in regards to Coronavirus. Bryan is in studio and everyone discusses the complications of being a musician with a day job. Other topics that come up are Lemon Kit Kat, acrylic nails, Benny Chong, the Hawaiian Music scene, and Bryan as an accompany-ist.

My guests on this episode are The Lee Sisters! As you’ve heard they are launching their first-ever CD. I’m so honored to have them both on this show and I cannot wait for you all to hear about how they got started. You’ll even get a sneak peek at two songs from the CD later on in the show concluding with the lightning round. So you’ll want to listen all the way to the end for that. First, I would like to shout to out Uncle Kamaka Brown, the creative director of the Sandwich Islands Network Radio, 24-7 online streaming of island contemporary music at V93FM.com for the introduction to Lise more than a year ago. Shout out to Nate Yaris for helping with the music and of course Red Light Fever Studios in Tujunga, Calif. and the masterwork of engineer-extraordinaire Kristofer Traynor. Sisters in real life, the girls have been performing throughout California and Hawaii since 2015. The Lee Sisters’ ukulele adventure began in January 2015 when they were invited by Kanile'a Ukulele to play at the NAMM show in Anaheim, Calif., the world’s largest music convention. Since then, they've been invited to perform at dozens of festivals and events throughout SoCal, including the Heritage of Aloha Festival in Santa Fe Springs (where Lise was the winner of their 2015 ukulele competition). In Hawaii, they have performed as guests of Bryan Tolentino and Herb Ohta Jr. at the Kani Ka Pila Grille, the Moana Terrace at Marriott Waikiki as guests of Alan Akaka and the Keawe Ohana Show, and most recently at Disney’s Aulani Resort as guests of The Makaha Sons. The Lee Sisters recorded two original ukulele pieces for an EP released by Sandwich Islands Network (SIN) Radio entitled “California 808,” and recently completed their own original album called “Uke Shoes.” Surprisingly, they have only been playing the ukulele for five years…and are self-taught!
