Auto lenders are homing in on key areas of underwriting to manage risk and grow in 2026 as the subprime market continues to face challenges with credit performance and affordability.Improved loan decisioning, declining interest rates, the use of data and analytics, and responsible growth are top of mind for auto lenders into next year, leaders said at the recent Auto Finance Summit 2025.The Federal Reserve cut its benchmark interest rate by another 25 basis points (bps) on Oct. 29, prompting lenders to prepare for an uptick in refinance opportunities. However, affordability remains a leading concern, especially for subprime consumers.In fact, Irvine, Calif.-based subprime auto lender Bayside Credit stopped originating auto loans against the backdrop of challenging macroeconomic conditions.Subprime credit performance is also a concern in the auto securitization market, with  and lenders that target consumers who may not be legal U.S. citizens experiencing higher-than-expected losses.In other news, subprime lender Credit Acceptance Corp.'s originations fell 16.5% year over year in the third quarter amid competition and worsening loan performance.Carvana, on the other hand, posted a 58.8% YoY jump in originations in Q3 and increased its forward-flow agreement with Ally Financial.In this episode of “Weekly Wrap,” Auto Finance News Associate Editor Aidan Bush discusses trends across underwriting, subprime lending, capital markets and third-quarter earnings for the week ended Oct. 31.

Hoje reconhecida como uma das maiores personalidades da gastronomia no país e vencedora do Prêmio Paladar 2025 na categoria Profissional Excepcional da Cidade de São Paulo, Rosa construiu uma trajetória marcante - iniciada apenas aos 42 anos de idade. Antes de se tornar um nome fundamental na história da boa mesa, ela era ceramista e vivia em São Paulo. A reviravolta veio em 1989, quando se mudou com o marido e os três filhos pequenos para a Califórnia. “Eu não conseguia ficar parada. Comecei a cozinhar para eles e a estudar gastronomia. A Califórnia era um celeiro de alimentos orgânicos, e isso me encantou”, relembra. O que começou como curiosidade virou paixão e, depois, carreira. Rosa passou a escrever sobre gastronomia para revistas brasileiras. De volta ao país, recebeu um convite inesperado e decisivo: criar o primeiro curso superior de gastronomia do Brasil, na Universidade Anhembi Morumbi. “Nunca tinha trabalhado com o meio acadêmico. Achei que fosse uma loucura, mas topei. E isso mudou tudo”, conta. After Camper Van Beethoven performed the final show of its recent tour in Washington, D.C.—and perhaps its last show ever—violinist/multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Segel returned to Stockholm, Sweden, where he has lived for the past 13 years. Segel is well traveled as a musician and otherwise, having been born in Marseille, France, grown up in Davis, Calif., and played with Sparklehorse as well as the Øresund Space Collective and on solo projects. He was a key element, if not the sparkplug, in the classic Camper Van Beethoven lineup until, he says, frontman David Lowery dismissed him before the band recorded Key Lime Pie and then broke up altogether. Segel recalls how he found his place in a band that would shift from ska to klezmer music to crunching rock within a few measures. “You are loved, warts and all.” Bishop Emeritus Patrick J. McGrath of San Jose said it at every confirmation—and liturgist Diana Macalintal never tired of hearing it. In this episode of “Preach,” she recalls a bishop's confirmation homily that “quickly devolved into an exploration of sin and evil,” complete with exorcisms and damnation. Like composing music, this preacher “did not emphasize the right notes—the right message,” she says. “Confirmation is all about strengthening the goodness that is in there, giving us the grace to do the hard things, to do the beautiful things in the world.” But don't avoid reality either. “For those who are being confirmed, these are oftentimes teenagers where real life is life and death. Whether it is or not, it is drama all the time.” Name those struggles, she urges, “in the context of this gift of the Spirit and how they can do their part in the mission of Christ.” Diana also challenges a common assumption: there's no obligation to choose a saint's name at confirmation. Church teaching honors our given names as "icons of a person." At St. Columba in Oakland, Calif., her historically Black parish, "for so many, their ancestors' names were taken away" during enslavement. In October of 1948, Billy Graham and his ministry team — Cliff Barrows, George Beverly Shea and Grady Wilson — held evangelistic meetings in Modesto, Calif. These men gathered in their spare time to write what Barrows came to call the “Modesto Manifesto.” That document outlined the standards they would follow regarding “financial integrity, sexual morality, publicity, and partnership with the local church.” However, the organizations led by Billy Graham's son Franklin recently withdrew from the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) because they did not want the ECFA to act as “moral police” for the evangelical world.
