A tecnologia o alcançou onde a polícia nunca conseguiu. #599
The robotaxi company Waymo has announced new capabilities that provide benefits completely distinct from its primary business model.Waymo says that the large, heavy, power-intensive batteries that power its fleet will no longer go to a recycling center at the end of their lives. Instead, they have a new use: supporting the power grid.Through a new partnership with B2U Storage Solutions, Waymo's batteries will be repurposed in order to store clean energy. But rather than in one-off implementations, the goal for this effort is to establish grid-scale storage systems. Adam Lenz, head of Sustainability & Environment at Waymo, “Our shared fleet of EVs provide a massive opportunity to support the growth of clean energy on the electricity grid while expanding the circular economy,” adding it was important to the company that the batteries continue to provide “economic and environmental value” after they were retired from the road. The plan goes hand in hand with solar power, according to Waymo, who contends that the batteries will primarily be used to store the surplus energy produced during peak hours – namely the middle of the day when the sun is at its highest point. The batteries will then distribute that power during peak demand in the evenings. They say the process is largely plug-and-play, with batteries coming from cars and capable of being online in this power storage capacity within a matter of days. The first deployments derived from the partnership will take place in Texas and California – two states who not only have a significant need for electrical grid support but who also happen to already host Waymo fleets.Fellow automaker GM also recently revealed that it was expanding into different battery cell chemistries for varied uses – notably to increase its vehicle-to-grid capabilities. The automaker hopes to take advantage of the growth in AI data center development and use its batteries to help offset the strain on the nation's utilities.#Waymo, #Robotaxi, #AutonomousVehicles, #EV, #ElectricVehicles, #BatteryStorage, #EnergyStorage, #RenewableEnergy, #SolarEnergy, #CleanEnergy, #PowerGrid, #BatteryTechnology, #Sustainability, #Manufacturing, #ManufacturingNews

On Tuesday, officials said on Facebook that new signs are being installed near schools throughout the city. Pomona officials issued an apology after adult content was apparently included in the city’s recently mailed recreation guide. Officials said the materials were not approved for inclusion in the guide and emphasized that their appearance was unintentional. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Riding Shotgun With Charlie #254 Alisha Curtin San Diego Concealed Carry & Gun Owners Radio In 2022, I went to the San Diego County Gun Owners' Gun Prom with a friend. I got to meet lots of people at the event, many whom I've had on the show at some point. I'm sure I met Alisha Curtin then. She's been part of Gun Owners Radio for a few years now. I did a PitStop interview with her, which is already posted, and I got to film this interview where we get into things a little more with her. This was her first SHOT Show and she had a great time! Alisha was raised in the San Diego area and met her husband in high school. At 17, she enlisted in the delayed entry program in the Army. The week before she was supposed to ship off for bootcamp, she re-evaluated the situation with her boyfriend and thought it was leading places just 4 months into dating. Just before SHOT Show, they celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary! Her husband is in law enforcement and with a firearm in the home, he wanted her to be familiar with it. She really enjoyed it but, for him, shooting was just work. Eventually, she found that she was going to shoot and take training with her lady friends. Around 2012, she bought her own gun, a S&W .40 cal! Fortunately, it was a gun she rented, knew what she was getting into, and liked shooting. During her pre-firearms career, Alisha was a high school teacher, covering biology, chemistry, forensic science, and criminal justice. The path to becoming an instructor was interesting. She was taking courses and another instructor took her in, said she would be good at this and mentored her. Then a range approached her and asked about having her teach courses at their facility. Instructing was a part time gig until the virus that shall not be named happened. The gun laws were changing and it seems like a good time to make a change. As an instructor, she mostly works with women. Many times a woman takes a lesson and brings her husband's gun or buys a gun the store suggests she buys. But that often isn't a great choice for the ladies, something like a J frame snubby. The thought is if a woman isn't strong enough to rack a slide, then she's going to have issues shooting a revolver in double action. Her business is called San Diego Concealed Carry. There are a couple of ranges where she teaches. In California to become a CCW instructor, there are three different paths one can take: the NRA path, the BSIS (Bureau of Security Investigative Services) path, and the POST Police Officer Standard of Training). She's got all three of them. She also has all of the USCCA certifications, as well. Certified with NRA, USCCA, and others, she offers several courses. Of course, there's CCW courses, the California DOJ initial course and renewal course, introduction to firearm courses, youth courses, self defense training, and the court mandidated courses, too. She keeps very busy and is very well versed in the Calif. gun laws and statues. Besides everything else she does, Alisha was going to events hosted by San Diego County Gun Owners. I will say that having been to one of their events, they draw in huge numbers of attendees! In 2021, the capacity at Gun Prom was 999. If there were 1,000 people they would need "special requirements', if you remember. At one event, Michael Schwartz, head of SDCGO, and Alisha got to talking. He had some changes with Gun Owners Radio and asked her to be a co-host of the show. I've got to say, it's been a weekly listen for me for a number of years now, and I highly recommend it to everyone. She has her own segment called Curtin Call, where she talks about training. Females are the largest growing demographic of firearm owners. It's fantastic that the ladies can take courses with someone like Alisha. It's also good that she can more than hold her own with the fellas, too. I'm sure she even shows a few of them up! Favorite quotes: "I had a good time. I liked it, I enjoyed it. But for him it was work." "It's a big investment. You want to make sure it's the right gun for you." "Men, in general, do not understand the things a woman needs in a firearm." This week, we headed to Mountain View, Calif., for the annual developer event Google I/O. We share our reactions to Google's biggest announcements, including a revamped search box, new agentic tools that compete with OpenClaw and an updated flash model of Gemini that the company says is faster than competitors. Then, we ask Sundar Pichai, the company's chief executive, how he's responding to growing evidence that the public is souring on A.I., what advice he'd give to college grads frightened by the current job market and where the company stands relative to competitors in the A.I. race. Finally, we run through the other big tech headlines of the week in our segment System Update. Guest: Sundar Pichai, chief executive of Google. This is Part 11 in a series celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Harvard University Press' 1985 publication of Richard A. Epstein's "Takings: Private Property and the Power of Eminent Domain." We continue our celebration of this anniversary with a fair use and transformative reading, taking a close look at ch. 6 continuing in the same section which Richard calls ""Takings Prima Facia," which makes the analogy between riparian rights and land rights. He titles chapter 6, "Possession and Use," because he's taking a look at the natural law of the natural coherent unity of the very nature of incidents of ownership (possession, use, disposition/abuse) and the American constitutional order, how these things interact and hang together, ensconced as it is in the purpose of the Constitution. That moral purpose is the protection of individual liberty against claims by a simple majority in a democracy, or judicial or executive fiat, or by the government in any other way in a taking of private property. It's also a good reflection on nature of property per se, whether public or private. For governments are owners as well as takers of property. Today we discuss the entirety of his chapter 6 from pp. 63 to 73.. At the end, this episode concludes with a reading of Psalm 60 in the KJV and January 30th in Streams in the Desert (Cowman Publications, Lost Feliz Station Lost Angeles, Calif. 1925 original non-woke edition). Excellent stuff here. Excellent. Every college student should read this book. It's a superb introduction to the political philosophy of the American regime. Praise the Lord. We'd like to thank Harvard University Press for making this material available and Richard Epstein for writing it. Make sure you buy the book and follow along. It's very important for you to have your own copy on your own bookshelf, and to begin to master this material. Support your local book dealer. See if they have a copy of it, or if they'd mind keeping an eye out for you. I always encourage buying physical books, objects you can have, hold, cherish, learn from, display on your bookshelf as a topic of conversation, things you can pass on to the next generation with your notes in them, things that do not depend upon electricity. Welcome to the Influence Podcast! I'm George P. Wood, executive editor of Influence magazine and your host. "Regardless of your Sunday attendance numbers, your church can become one of the most influential organizations in your city," writes Kevin Foster. "As culture drifts further from the local church, one of the most powerful ways to become relevant again is to engage with the brokenness in the community around you." In this episode of the Influence Podcast, I talk to Foster about his book, Run to the Brokenness. We discuss the relationship between evangelism and compassion, better metrics for measuring ministry effectiveness, how to operationalize compassion in your congregation, and much more. On Friday, I moderated a forum with the top Democratic candidates for California governor, focusing on the state's housing crisis. California's current governor, Gavin Newsom, came into office in 2019 promising to build millions of homes. And in the years since, dozens of pro-housing laws have passed, designed to cut red tape and spur more construction. And yet the number of homes being built in California is basically the same as when he took office, and the state's housing crisis remains, arguably, the worst in the country. So I wanted to know what the next governor would do about it. We taped this at the Calvin Simmons Theater in Oakland, Calif. The candidates on the stage were Xavier Becerra, a former attorney general of California and health and human services secretary under President Joe Biden; Matt Mahan, the mayor of San Jose and a tech entrepreneur; Katie Porter, a former U.S. representative; Tom Steyer, a former San Francisco hedge fund manager, a climate activist and a philanthropist; and Antonio Villaraigosa, a former mayor of Los Angeles and speaker of the California State Assembly. This panel was recorded live. The Times did not fact-check candidates' remarks. My guests are Mike Guggino, Sheri Mignano Crawford, and Nino Vicari. They have recently collaborated on a new collection of Giovanni Vicari's compositions titled “Dances for Mandolin” available HERE! SONOMA, CALIF. — Giovanni Vicari: Dances for Mandolin is a new publication celebrating the artistry and legacy of Italian mandolin virtuoso Giovanni Vicari, now available to the global mandolin community. This thoughtfully curated collection features 53 of Vicari's original compositions, meticulously transcribed and edited by mandolinist Mike Guggino of the Grammy Award winning Steep Canyon Rangers and renowned author and educator Sheri Mignano Crawford. Drawing from Vicari's own handwritten scores generously provided by his son, Nino, this project represents a significant effort to preserve and share this music with contemporary audiences. Known for his expressive phrasing, technical brilliance, and lyrical sensibility, Giovanni Vicari's work occupies a unique and important place in the evolution of the mandolin. Mignano Crawford and Guggino approached the material with a deep respect for authenticity, striving to remain faithful to Vicari's original manuscripts while making the pieces accessible to today's players. The result is a collection that balances historical integrity with practical usability, offering clear, accurate transcriptions that invite both study and performance. From elegant, song-like melodies to virtuosic showpieces, these polkas, waltzes, mazurkas, tarantellas, and tangos highlight the depth and diversity of Vicari's compositional output. Guggino states: "We were already lucky enough to have so many of Giovanni Vicari's compositions recorded for posterity. Now with this published collection of the original scores, his music can be more easily studied and shared by mandolin players all around the world. This music speaks for itself. Our goal was to present Vicari's intentions as clearly as possible, allowing mandolinists to connect directly with his artistry." The Giovanni Vicari collection is now available and is expected to become an essential addition to mandolin libraries worldwide. We share how a regional command system, disciplined big box tactics, and drone intelligence helped protect firefighters and save most of the facility. We discuss:• Setting the scene at Koch Foods and the early alarm upgrade to a high hazard response• The report of a worker still inside and the rapid shift to defensive operations after untenable conditions• How a delayed roof report revealed extreme fire involvement and changed tactics• Thermal fluid flash conditions and why fire spread outran parts of the sprinkler system• Water supply challenges, extended FDC pumping, and coordination with public utilities• Managing ammonia tanks, cooling operations, and air monitoring as a hazmat problem• Building a scalable command team with Blue Card, unified command, HazMat and EMA integration• Using a regional drone team for situational awareness, leak location, and aerial placement• Cross-county mutual aid that works because of shared SOGs, training standards, and linked CAD• Why big box fires require abandoning residential tactics and slowing down before entryOrder the 3rd Edition of Fire Command here: https://bshifter.myshopify.com/products/new-fire-command-3rd-editionFor Waldorf University Blue Card credit and discounts: https://www.waldorf.edu/blue-card/For free command and leadership support, check out bshifter.comSign up for the B Shifter Buckslip, our free weekly newsletter here: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/su/fmgs92N/BuckslipShop B Shifter here: http
