What if the spiritual life we're living is perfectly designed to produce the results we're getting? This powerful message confronts us with an uncomfortable truth: we are all being formed into something, whether we realize it or not. Just as our physical systems adapt to our environment, our spiritual lives are shaped by a constellation of choices—the media we consume, the relationships we nurture, the practices we maintain. The central question isn't whether we're being formed, but what we're being formed into. Are we being conformed to the patterns of this world, or transformed into the image of Christ? Drawing from Romans 12:2 and the story of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, we discover that spiritual formation isn't about earning salvation—it's about establishing guardrails in our lives so that when pressure comes, when we're pulled in multiple directions, we can hear God's voice above the noise. The Mario Kart analogy brilliantly illustrates this: without spiritual practices, we're constantly falling off the edge and being rescued, but with intentional formation, we build guardrails that keep us on track even when we take wide turns. We were created in God's image, deformed by a broken world, but through Christ, we can be reformed. The challenge before us is clear: will we establish rhythms of prayer, Scripture, community, and service that connect us to God, or will we sleep through the critical moments like the disciples did?

(This podcast was previously published on March 11, 2021)   Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney  ...   Romans 12:1-2   I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.   2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.   This world speaks and approves one thing while God speaks exactly the opposite by HIS Word.   By the New Testament Bible, we know that which God approves.   Consider this:  What does the Bible say?   And when we think something, ask yourself:  Where is that in the Bible?   II Timothy 3:16-17  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.   As a new Christian, my friend, also a new Christian, and I tried to find in the Bible where it says all men are created equal.   We couldn't find that in the Bible.   So we went to a professor at Dallas Theological Seminary and asked, "Where is it in the Bible where it says all men are created equal?"   He replied, "That's not in the Bible."   We were very shocked!   *****   Sayings of this world:   "You'll never get out of this world alive."   * I Corinthians 15:51-52   Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep (die), but we shall all be changed,  In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.   ***   "Nothing last forever."   * Matthew 24:35  Jesus says:  Heaven and earth shall pass away, but MY words shall not pass away.   ***   Catholic pope said:  " I see no problem with homosexuals."   Bible says:  Romans 1:26-28   For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:   27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.   28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;   ***   I Corinthians 6:9-10   Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?  Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate  (homosexuals), nor abusers of themselves with mankind,   10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.   ***   Pastor said, "I see no problem with a divorced woman remarrying.  My sister is divorced and remarried."   Bible says:   Matthew 5:32  Jesus says:  But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.   - Man who divorces a faithful wife, will be the cause of that faithful wife's adultery if she remarries.   - Man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.   I Corinthians 7:10-11  And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:  But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.   Romans 7:3   So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.   ***   Proverbs 14:12   There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.   ***   After I was born again, all these problems started.  My best friend said, "Joanie, you shouldn't be having all these problems now that you are a Christian."   II Timothy 3:12   Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.   II Peter 4:12-14   Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:  But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when HIS glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.  If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part HE is evil spoken of, but on your part HE is glorified.   ***   After I was born again, I asked my friend, a Baptist, "What do we do now?"    She replied, "Nothing."   What the Bible says:  Revelation 22:14  Blessed are they that do HIS commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.   ***   Doctrine of "once saved always saved."   Revelation 3:5  Jesus says:  He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before MY Father, and before his angels.   ***   After she was born again, Pam Padgett began trying to find in the Bible doctrines which she had been taught in the Catholic church.   She kept thinking, "I'm sure this must be in the Bible because they taught it in the Catholic church!"   But she found doctrines which she had learned in the Catholic church that were not in the Bible.

It expresses the refusal of the Jewish people to be converted into something that was against the will of God and against the teachings of God. We as believers in Yeshua (Jesus) should have the same resistance to the culture that is set to move us away from the Scriptures, away from our Christian values, and convert us to a different way of life. Hanukkah is not a substitute for Christmas. It is an observance very applicable to Christianity today.   Show Notes: Many people think that Hanukkah is just a celebration for Jewish people to compete with Christmas during December. That is not true. Hanukkah existed before the celebration of Christmas and was observed by Yeshua (Jesus). Called the Feast of Dedication, Hanukkah celebrates the rededication of the Temple after the Maccabean Revolt when the Jews recaptured Jerusalem, recaptured the Temple, and purified it from its defilement.   At a time when Israel was under the suppression of the Seleucid Empire, Antiochus IV (known as Epiphanes) determined to wipe out all the practices and beliefs of the Jewish people and replace them with Greek paganism. A small band of Jewish men and women who refused to be Hellenized and converted into pagans rose up and fought against the armies of the Greeks and won, taking Jerusalem and cleansing and rededicating the Temple. This spirit is what Hanukkah celebrates.   To celebrate Hanukkah is to follow after those who refused to be converted to the paganism of the Greek culture. As Christians we likewise should refuse the demands of today's culture and the pressures of society that would force us to deny our faith and convert us to the paganism of today's world, which is quickly abandoning the Scriptures, abandoning morals, abandoning pure thought, and the right ways of life. We, as believers in Christ, along with the Jewish people, should shine as a light on a hill as those who hold forth the Word of God, the promises of God, and the prophecies to come.   Key Verses:   •       John 10:22–23. "At that time the Feast of the Dedication took place at Jerusalem; it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple." •       Romans 12:1–2. Romans 8:28-30 — Why does Christianity claim to be the only way of salvation? As Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones preaches this sermon from Romans 8:28-30 titled “Confirmed to Christ,” the gospel is a message of exclusivity that tells of salvation through Christ by His life, death, and resurrection. The teaching that all those who do not believe in the gospel in this life will be judged and condemned in the next is found throughout the Bible. Nevertheless, many fight and resist this teaching on the basis that it is narrow and unloving of God to condemn sinners to an eternity in hell. But, as Dr. Lloyd-Jones reminds the listener, all are in sin and under the condemnation and judgment of God on account of their unrighteousness and rebellion against Him. All have fallen in Adam who was the head of the whole human race. As the head of the new humanity, Christ died and conquered the grave so that all creation would be redeemed and made new. What was lost in Adam will be regained in Christ and more. It is only in Christ that people can become partakers of His blessings and become children of God. There is no salvation outside of Christ.
