The world we live in is full of uncertainty, whether in current events casting a shadow over our politics, the people in our lives who let us down, and more. For some, the hopelessness leads them to just focus on the present and try to have some fun to help them forget how hard it is. But simply numbing the pain is not the way of Jesus. In this series, we're going to study a letter written to a group of people living through uncertain times by the apostle Peter about where we can find hope and reliability in uncertain times. In this first message of the series, Pastor Joel explains how Peter unpacks our identity and inheritance as reasons to find calm in the chaos.

The letter of Romans strengthened the ancient church, brought reformation to the dark ages, has brought hope for 2000 years, and can change your life! This week Pastor Joel continues Part 2 of his message series in Romans, “Bold Faith That Wins”. Today we look at “Self-Examination.” We are most vulnerable when we are complacent. Too often we get hung up on prophecy instead of life change. And as we examine ourselves in this passage of scripture we should ask ourselves: 1) Have I received Grace? Am I faithful? Am I relying on myself? And where is my trust? When people talk about TV shows that have well regarded and satisfying endings, they often cite things like finishing off character arcs well, linking up to themes introduced throughout the series, and ending one story—even if another story could be beginning in a spin-off show. As Acts comes to a close, we find all of these elements to a satisfying end of a story be fulfilled. In this message, Pastor Joel explores that end, and explains why to truly understand Acts' closing message, we have to understand the end of the early church's story is the beginning of ours. What might it look like for us to take that seriously?

Court appearances, prison stays, riots, speeches full of biographical details, and lots of waiting. The end of the book of Acts can be hard to follow, but when we understand the big picture it all falls into place. The key to understanding the end of Acts is something God impresses into Paul's heart in Acts 19. Paul is going to take an up and down pathway to the great city of Rome, which is all part of his divine appointment. In this message we're going to talk about what the book of Acts teaches us about the idea of divine appointments, missions or ministries given to us by God for the purpose of, as Jesus says in Acts 1:8, being his witnesses to the ends of the earth. Pastor Joel talks through how difficulty doesn't derail our divine appointments, and shares another story in the book of Acts of a divine appointment that might look more like many of ours than Paul's.

Listen and be encouraged to live each day free from fear, secure in Christ, and strengthened by the promises of God's Word

Forgiveness is a vital component of the gospel, essential for experiencing God's presence and impacting our world. Pastor Joel explains Jesus' teaching on forgiving from the heart which means: 1) Compassion for the Offender, 2) Commuting the sentence, and 3) Cancelling the debt entirely. Forgiveness is the key to freedom, healing, and transformative influence, mirroring God's own boundless grace and offering a path to renewed purpose and impact.
God doesn't just want you to survive — He wants your life to overflow with His presence, His joy, His peace, and His power. In Ephesians 3:20–21, Paul declares that God is “able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.” This isn't a distant promise — it's a present reality. God's power is already at work in you. The letter of Romans strengthened the ancient church, brought reformation to the dark ages, has brought hope for 2000 years, and can change your life! This week Pastor Joel continues Part 2 of his message series in Romans, “Bold Faith That Wins”. What is the price of unbelief? We're afraid of failure because we've been baptized in a culture of success. Especially when it comes to sharing our faith with others. But Pastor Joel reminds us that even though we are commanded to share the good news about Jesus, sometimes there is a level of unbelief that only a miracle of God is can reverse. You should take some relief from that! What else does Paul say about unbelief, let's listen in…This is a special four part series that will span the year of 2025. In Acts 17:6, some nonbelievers plainly state the perception of Christians in their time: “These people turn the world upside down!” What a statement! And what a far cry from how the good news is experienced today. In this message, Pastor Joel examines a story from Acts 19 about how Paul, preaching the good news in a city called Ephesus, disrupted two of the main things that people relied on in their everyday lives: magic and idols, which at the end of the day are just means to control our worlds. What do we rely on today that is like magic and idols, and how might the good news of Jesus disrupt our reliance on them? This message is aimed at getting you to think about that question.

Acts is filled with amazing stories of the kingdom spreading. There are stories where people miraculously speak other languages for cross cultural ministry. There are stories about dangerous sea travel, giant storms and shipwreck. There are stories of dramatic confrontations with corrupt, villainous authorities and unjust imprisonment. Stories of earthquakes, riots, and journeying around the world. But for all the seemingly “extraordinary” stories, there are plenty of stories of the kingdom coming through the “ordinary” stuff of life. And in this message, we study one of those: Through someone's job. In this message, Pastor Joel explains how we're all wired for work, and in fact our work—or our vocation—is an essential way Jesus can bring his kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. Join in—there's something in this message for everyone!
In this Wednesday Prayer teaching, Pastor Joel Sims begins a new teaching on Dealing with the Devil, where we see in scripture that Satan is to be resisted, and he will flee. He's also subtle and crafty; if you think you see him, you probably don't. Learn more in this insightful episode!

In the last hours before he was crucified, Jesus prayed to God for togetherness among his disciples that would make us effective in pursuing the tasks he has assigned to us. We all will have opportunities to make this prayer a reality—whether in our church, at our workplaces, our neighborhoods or apartment buildings, on our campuses, and more—with the other believers God brings into our lives. It's possible he's done so for a kingdom purpose. But it's not easy, and lots of things can cause us to be hesitant to move forward. In this message, Pastor Joel talks about the fight for togetherness we see from the churches of Antioch and Jerusalem in Acts 15 and how they navigated the tricky pressures of politics and tradition to make Jesus's vision a reality.

On occasion we address Covenant Church family questions during the Sunday morning message. We want to engage our folks where they are, and these questions help our pastors be more effective, by understanding where they struggle. There are many decisions Covenant makes, positions we take et al that do not make the difference between heaven and hell, and on which other churches sometimes take a different approach. Because our church is multi-denominational, we have many rich faith traditions represented among our people. In this last message of this series, Joel talks about the Holy Spirit and how it's good to have questions about Him. We'll look at: what does the Holy Spirit do, how do we receive Him, and what are the results of His work?
