“She started working these practices, and when I say working it, she was *working* it. She was actually living this fifth principle.” Associate Minister Diane Robertson takes a first step into our new series Alchemy of Leadership. Pulling from her current ministerial training materials, she introduces us to Francis W. Foulks, who wrote Effectual Prayer, and also edited many early Unity materials, including Myrtle Fillmore’s Healing Letters. Francis exemplifies the fifth Unity principle, in that she rooted her work in meditation and silence, but then brought that divine connection out into the world. This kind of spiritually well-rooted action effects great changes and lasting benefits for all. Our Worship Arts includes special guest Darrius Willrich. Check out the full service video here. Take advantage of all the ways we can stay connected during this time, including after-service fellowship, Daily Prayer Boosts, and Wednesday evening prayer services. And as always, see our Facebook page or our Instagram for more, including quotes from our lesson notes, readings, and more. Want to get regular updates? Critical Sun Recordings is heading back to Austin, Texas and South by Southwest. This year, Critical Sun will be hosting the only unofficial SXSW showcase featuring a lineup comprised solely of bands from Seattle. Thursday, March 14th at Opal Divine’s Penn Field, Critical Sun @ SXSW 2013, will blow a hole in the space-time continuum with a free, five-hour showcase featuring electro rock band Furniture Girls, alt-country quintet Sightseer, pop rockers In Cahoots, singer/songwriters Rob Marcus and Yusif, soul/R&B vocalist Darrius Willrich and groove-rock duo Ghost Tribe Fires. All seven artists will perform music from their upcoming 2013 releases. On this week’s episode of SMI Radio, members from the participating bands pop by the studio to talk about SXSW and play tracks from the Critical Sun 2013 SXSW Compilation CD. Furniture Girls, along with a stable of Critical Sun Recording artists are in Austin, Texas for the SXSW (South by Southwest) Conference SMI Radio's Greg Roth had a chance to catch up with lead vocalist StayC Meyer, drummer Thane Mitchell, bassist Jim Watkins, and guitarist Jason Lightfoot (also in Critical Sun Recording band Sightseer). Guitarist Bubba Jones was not available, but his cat Tomita was happy to sit in instead, although she didn’t have a lot to say. They spoke about their trip to Austin, their forthcoming record, and future show dates, and feature some of their music. The second half of SMI Radio features an interview with Critical Sun artist Darrius Wilrich, right after he came offstage at The Triple Door record release show. Check out one of his songs – already a hit in Brazil! – as well as some new tracks from Critical Sun Recording artists Sightseer, Stacy Jones Band and In Cahoots, who are all in Austin this week.
Seattle's soul-singer-songwriter Darrius Willrich drips a sensuous interplay of soul, jazz, and inner city longings. Sure to engage your all your senses, with the look, sound and feel of yesterday's soul-today. The spirit of Stevie Wonder, D'Angelo, and Herbie Hancock, season the musical stew that is Darrius...Sweet Urban Soul. THE SECOND HOUR OF THE SHOW Musician-Keyboardist, Composer, and Musical Director, Cassandra O'Neal, is living every musician's dream by working on projects like the Mary J. Blige's Heart of The City Tour, recording the DreamGirls soundtrack, and currently playing with Prince and his highly-synergized team of New Power Generation Veterans, Renato Neto and Morris Hayes, on-stage together since the Grand Palais and La Cigale concerts in France back in October, 2009. “It's a blessing to work with Prince,” says O'Neal. “What an honor to play with one of the Greatest Artists of all Time!" Never conceding to life's challenges, O'Neal has since played on various recordings and numerous tours for several of R&B, Gospel, and Pop's biggest acts, including Babyface, Patti LaBelle, Macy Gray, LeAnn Rimes, Pink, 98 Degrees, Chaka Khan, Kirk Franklin, Steven Bishop, and CeCe Winans, among others. O'Neal says that, as she tours with Prince, she is more inspired than ever to take her talent to new heights, and encourage others to be extraordinary. “With the God-given gift of music, and my mother's encouragement, I was empowered to pursue my love for music as a career,” said O'Neal. “I've made it and if I can do it, you can do it too! Don't be afraid to stretch out and just do YOU!”
