This is a song I made for the new year from a poem written on another New Year's Day, in 1927, by my great-great-grandmother for her 61st wedding anniversary to her husband David Hudson. The couple met during the American Civil War, and the song is that story. I plan to write more about those poeple, and the poem now song. soon at the Parlando Project blog. The Parlando Project takes various words (mostly literary poetry) and combines them with original music in differing styles. Sap is the second studio EP by the American rock band Alice in Chains, released on February 4, 1992, through Columbia Records. Sap is mostly acoustic and marks the first time that guitarist Jerry Cantrell sings lead vocals in an Alice in Chains release, with the song "Brother". The EP was produced by Alice in Chains and Rick Parashar and features guest vocals by Ann Wilson of the band Heart, Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and Mark Arm of Mudhoney. The track "Got Me Wrong" became a hit two years later after being featured on the soundtrack to the 1994 film Clerks. On January 14, 1994, Sap was certified gold by the RIAA for the sale of more than 500,000 copies. Jar of Flies is the third studio EP by the American rock band Alice in Chains, released on January 25, 1994, through Columbia Records. This is Alice in Chains' second acoustic EP, preceded by 1992's Sap, and it is the first EP in music history to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, with the first week sales exceeding 141,000 copies in the United States. The self-produced EP was written and recorded over the course of just one week at the London Bridge Studio in Seattle. YVETTE NICOLE BROWN BIO Yvette landed her first television role - - a two-episode gig playing Toni Childs' sister "Sherri" on GIRLFRIENDS - - by chance. Casting director Robi Reed called her in to audition from a post card submission. Yvette had no credits and no agent. That stroke of serendipity at the beginning of her career, taught Yvette that you never know how God is going to move in your life and career. Booking a series regular role two months later, on the first pilot she auditioned for further proved the point. That show, ABC's THE BIG HOUSE -- which starred Kevin Hart, only lasted a few episodes; but that experience proved to be a blessing as well. Later as an adult, with the help pf Pam Slaton,  he met his biological father and siblings but unfortunately his mother had passed before he could find her.David  is an Emmy® Award-winning creative executive with more than two decades of experience in creating content for both television and digital platforms. Hudson is Head of Original Programming for the new Scripps Networks (ION, Bounce, Laff, Court TV, Court TV Mystery, Grit, Defy TV, TrueReal, Newsy), which includes oversight and creation of movies, scripted series, limited series, and specials. Prior to his current role, Hudson served as Senior Vice President for TBS and TNT, developing and overseeing late night (CONAN), reality, and special event programming (Screen Actors Guild Awards®). He has also produced alternative programming and specials for the likes of HBO, FOX, Paramount Studios, NBC, and TLC.Hudson is a graduate of Emerson College in Boston and The John E. Anderson Graduate School of Management's Executive Leadership Development Program at the University of California, Los Angeles. This week, I'm thrilled to shine a light on an organization that is truly walking the walk when it comes to living its values. The New Harmony Project - led by Lori Wolter Hudson and David Hudson cares for and nurtures writers to give them the space, time, energy, and inspiration to create works that change our world by interrogating the complexities of hope. There's a lot there -- what it means to care for and nurture writers, the role of hope in helping to forge a more just and equitable world, and what it looks like in practice to translate a bold and beautiful mission into organizational practices that can actually be used to guide the institution. In this conversation, David and Lori share how their recent strategic planning process has helped them answer these critical questions, and how it has helped them actually translate their mission and operationalize their values.  It's a great look into how powerful a good strategic planning process can be, and into how intertwined personal inspiration, strategy, organizational values, and day-to-day operations truly are when leading an organization.
