Hard Parking Episode 313Jhae Pfenning is back with his high-energy solo intro and special guest Andre "Dre" Mullins (aka Dre Day) for another unforgettable episode of Hard Parking. This one fires on all cylinders—cars, culture, controversy, and real talk.Jhae delivers a no-holds-barred rant on Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show: the electric energy, set design, crowd reactions, political hypocrisy on both sides, and why it still ranks as one of the all-time greats despite the backlash. He compares it to legendary (and bizarre) past performances, including the 1995 Disney/Indiana Jones halftime spectacular.Dre jumps in for wide-ranging conversation: the decline of originality in music (heavy sampling vs. the one-artist/producer era of the 80s/90s Grammys), the NFL's Pro Bowl turning into flag football, and his standout experience at the Southwest Speed Festival—track action, time attack, open-wheel racing, and why it felt like a breath of fresh air.Car fans eat good too: Dre's daily-driven Acura NSX philosophy (maintainer, not show queen), upcoming Arizona car events, an honest take on the new 2026 Honda Prelude (design, target buyer, and actual sales numbers), plus real-world advice on Dre's wife's next vehicle search (MDX lease ending— Kia Telluride? Lexus TX? Acura MDX Type S?).The vibe is fun, honest, and charismatic—exactly why listeners love having Dre on the show.Key moments include: • Unfiltered Super Bowl halftime analysis • Mind-blowing AI video demos (celebrity fight scenes and more realistic than ever) • Car culture, charity events, and community • Lease vs. buy debates and dealership insights Whether you're into JDM icons, modern performance cars, or just great conversation, this episode is a must-listen. Her powerful interpretation of Chaka Khan's “Tell Me Something Good” turned both founding coaches' chairs, Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera, around.  After joining Team Adam, Kim wowed the audience with her cover of Mary J. Blige's “No More Drama” and advanced to the Season Two Live Playoffs.  During The Voice: Season Two Live Playoffs, she sang Adele's “Rolling in the Deep” but fell into the Bottom Three.  After delivering a superb, powerful cover of Jennifer Hudson's “Spotlight,” the Maroon 5 frontman chose to advance Kim's then teammate, Katrina Parker, to the Top 16.  After her appearance on the NBC talent competition, Al Roker, Hoda Kotb, and Kathie Lee Gifford interviewed her on Today, and she sang with the Roots on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Over the years, Kim dove deep into the entertainment industry. She guest-starred on several television shows, including 2 Broke Girls, 9-1-1, Hollywood Heights, Hot in Cleveland, Kenan, The Mindy Project, New Girl, Shameless, and The Up-Shaws. Kim also had recurring roles in Cherish the Day (Aunt Natalie), The Haunted Hathaways (Madame Labuef), and the animated series Kid Cosmic (Flo (voice)). In addition, Kim lent her voice to the Oscar-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.  She also shared the stage and screen with entertainment industry legends, including Dennis Quaid, Loretta Devine, Octavia Spencer, Cedric the Entertainer, Stevie Wonder, Sheila E, and the late Betty White and her mentor Della Reese, who produced the stage show Della Reese Presents Kim Yarbrough, which allowed Kim to showcase her talents to the Hollywood Entertainment Community.   On this episode of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Kim Yarbrough spoke about voice acting, tutoring students in the arts, and if she would ever audition for America's Got Talent or wait for a future All-Stars season of The Voice USA. Born Patricia Louise Holte in 1944 in Southwest Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the woman we know as Patti LaBelle was raised in a large family as the second-youngest of five children. Her father worked on the railroad and performed in clubs, while her mother was a domestic worker. From a young age, Patti found solace and purpose in music — she joined her church choir at age 10 and by 12 was singing solo. Her early life wasn't easy. The marriage of her parents was troubled, and after her parents separated when she was 12, she experienced deep personal trauma. Yet despite hardship, she held onto music — both for comfort and as an outlet — listening to jazz, R&B and gospel as she grew up.In her mid-teens Patti began dreaming of making music beyond the church. By 1960, she formed a girl group called The Ordettes with friends at school. The next year members changed and the group evolved into Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles — soon to become simply Labelle in the '70s. The Bluebelles enjoyed moderate success: in '62 they scored a Top-20 hit. Later, they found acclaim covering classics like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” In the '70s Labelle's sound evolved. The group embraced funk, soul, and rock — culminating in the '74 smash hit Lady Marmalade. The song and its style cemented their place in music history. But amidst growing fame, internal tensions and changing musical landscapes led to the group's split in '77. That difficult moment became the launchpad for Patti's solo journey. Patti's debut solo album, simply titled Patti LaBelle, came out in '77. Her true breakthrough came mid-'80s. A string of hits turned Patti into a household name. 1986's album Winner in You — featuring the duet On My Own with Michael McDonald — topped U.S. charts and solidified her commercial success. In the '90s Patti continued to release albums. She earned a second and sold tens of millions of records worldwide.Patti's talents reach far beyond singing. Over the decades she's dabbled in acting and is also a successful author. Her 1996 memoir Don't Block the Blessings: Revelations of a Lifetime gives insight into her hardships, faith and perseverance. She later penned cookbooks, launched a food brand with frozen comfort foods, and her signature sweet-potato pies.Today Patti LaBelle shows no signs of slowing down. In 2024, she marked her 80th birthday by announcing a brand new album titled 8065 — a tribute to her 80 years alive and 65 years in show business. She's also hit the road with the “8065 Celebration Tour,” which will take her to audiences around the world — including stops planned for Australia and New Zealand early in 2026.At 81, Patti remains a powerhouse performer. Her message to fans? Age is just a number — and she's proof. Reflecting on her decades-long career, she recently said she feels blessed to still be “standing” — able to sing, walk, and create. In this week’s episode of the Rickey Smiley Morning Show Podcast, the hosts unpack a series of heavy-hitting stories. A sweeping federal anti-gambling operation that arrested more than 30 people — including Chauncey Billups and Terry Rozier — in connection with rigged poker games and insider sports-betting schemes tied to organized crime. Next, controversial songwriter/artist Kevin McCall caused a stir by publicly declaring that several high-profile R&B and pop singers “can’t sing,” including Patti LaBelle, Keyshia Cole, Alicia Keys and others, igniting debate about vocal talent and industry standards. Then, reality television takes center stage as sisters Trina Braxton and Towanda Braxton discuss the new season of The Braxtons — a series that delves into family dynamics, legacy and the late sister Traci’s impact on the show’s return. Lastly, with the federal government shut down, millions of Americans are being warned that holiday travel could be disrupted by TSA and air-traffic-controller staffing shortfalls, potentially affecting flights, security lines and vacations. Jerry Williams Jr. has performed under the pseudonym Swamp Dogg since 1970 and has been described as “one of the great cult figures of 20th century American music.” I would agree, and it was an absolute honor to welcome the R&B singer, songwriter, and record producer to the studio to talk about visiting restaurants on the road while touring in the Jim Crow South and working with iconic artists like Patti LaBelle, Doris Duke, and Dr. Dre. We also discuss his new cookbook, which is a real treasure. It's called If You Can Kill It I Can Cook It, and I absolutely love it. I hope you enjoy my conversation with Swamp Dogg.Get your tickets to our live event on July 23 at the Bell House in Brooklyn.
