Regarding the proposed whiskey tour, it's one of my bucket list items to go on an Invasion...but teaching makes it difficult. For this proposal, I start back up August 9, 2024. If you end up scheduling earlier let me know, we're definitely into hiking. Actually this is old now but one of the "what are you doing while listening to the Podcast" was running from Wordsworth's Dove Cottage in Grasmere UK up to Easedale Tarn in heavy rain. Even with rain jackets we got wet but it was glorious and the music matched the scene." Rich Hoffman replied to the Celtic Music Magazine's Christmas greetings: "Thanks for all the great music Mark. It is a true gift to us. Happy 2024! " emilio marco colombo also replied: "Many thanks Marc. And a big hug from Italy! And thank you always for the beautiful music you offer us!" Patrick Rieger emailed photos: "Hello Marc, Here are photos from the Celtic Christmas Music show Celtic Pittsburgh hosted at Mullaney's Harp & Fiddle the evening of December 9th. The performers were Cahal Dunne; Mike Clancy and Alan Booth of Abbots Cross; Bill McShane of the University of Pittsburgh Nationality Rooms and Intercultural Exchange Program speaking about the Scottish room; Kip Ruefle and Lawrence McCullough of the Kip Ruefle Trio; Jessica Willard on hammered dulcimer, and RichPatrick, with (l to r) Sue Borowski, Rich Lange, and Jim Borowski. The pub was packed that night, and everyone had a great time. A big thanks to the staff of the Harp for handling such a crowd so well." Bill Mandeville commented on Patreon: "Great Christmas podcast! A family member commented that the songs were so fresh and original. Not the supermarket fare you hear to ad nauseam this time of year. Here is wishing you and your lovely family a merry Christmas." He wrote a separate post regarding the Celtic Top 20 episode: "I jotted down a couple songs to vote for; but only to find out the songs were from 2012 podcast and not on the list. That's when I got this epiphany. Why don't you reopen the best of (prior year). You can call it - Best if 2012: For Real This Time. Gwênlyn Glusman emailed a photo: "Hi Marc, I think I first enjoyed the Irish & Celtic Music podcast in late 2005, but I wasn't much into podcasts then and lost track of it... Then on December 26th, 2022 (exactly one year ago) I did some google images search and a logo caught my eye among the results... and I rediscovered your podcast! Been avidly listening since then, and became a patron in January 2023. I typically listen to the podcast while walking in the neighborhood or while commuting (which I do by bus). It always lifts my mood! Also very much enjoying the Celtic Christmas podcast! Here's a photo from Dervish at the Triple Door in Seattle, November 7th. I heard from you they were touring, and very much enjoyed the show, with friends!" Annelise Laughlin emailed: "Hi Marc, I'm enjoying some quiet time and listening to your Celtic Christmas 2023 episode while brainstorming my New Year's resolution! Thanks so much for continuing to produce your podcast. I love listening whenever the mood strikes me, and it always brings me joy. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!"

Black Love is the Whigs second masterpiece in a row and they would never be as dark or foreboding again. Where Gentlemen was intimate and desperate, Black Love is grand and demanding. It's the soundtrack to a Film Noir / Blaxploitation mashup, a world where secrets and betrayal are set to a Wah Wah pedal and there's no discerning anger, desperation or triumph. It's terrifying and I never want to leave. Here's hoping Greg gives us the second part of that crime scene at some point. Pianist Overton Berry played all over the world but he always called Seattle home, and Seattle jazz fans were proud to call him one of our own. When he passed at the age of 84 last Monday, he was one of the last of popular Seattle jazz artists from "The Jackson Street Era" that included Quincy Jones, Ernestine Anderson, Floyd Standifer, Buddy Catlett, Jabo Ward and others. His career developed around the time of the Seattle World's Fair, when he played at The House of Entertainment, Dave's Fifth Avenue, the Marine Room at the Olympic Hotel and the Doubletree Inn. He later played at Tula's, the Triple Door, Jazz Alley, Egan's and the Sorento Hotel. He first toured overseas to play in Viet Nam, later Tokyo, Hong Kong, Guangzhou China and other stops. Music on this tribute show will include his first recording, Live at The Doubletree (1970) as well as a duo performance with Bruce Phares on bass at Tula's (2018) which we recorded for Jazz Northwest and first broadcast here. The Bandcamp page housing Kikagaku Moyo’s discography simply describes the band as “feeling good music.” It’s succinct and perhaps reductive to the intricate tapestry of sounds the Japanese band weaves but nonetheless completely accurate. In November, they made a crowd of VIP donors at The Triple Door feel very good while basking in the haze of Kikagaku Moyo’s free flowing psychedelic folk for KEXP’s VIP Club Concert series. Upon hearing the sounds of DakhaBrakha (Ukrainian for “Give/Take”), it’s no surprise that the quartet was founded at a contemporary art museum by an avant-garde theater director. Between their unfamiliar harmonies and use of traditional instrumentation from three continents, the musical world DakhaBrakha creates is nothing short of transcendent. Sarah Emerson Sarah Emerson is a singer, songwriter from Seattle, Washington. Following behind the heels of her songwriting grandmother Berta Emerson, she has penned lyrics and had poems locally published since childhood. Kevin Morby has been a KEXP favorite for a few years now, but he's never sounded quite as vibrant and expansive as he does on his latest LP, City Music. Performing a set full of City Music tracks (along with some old favorites) at the Triple Door, Morby and his bandmates run through a sublime 50 minute set. Recorded 8/21/2017 - 4 songs: City Music, Crybaby, 1234, Aboard My Train, Destroyer, I Have Been To The Mountain, Parade, Downtown's Lights, Beautiful StrangersSupport the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Underneath shimmering textures and spiky rhythms, The Drums have always kept their heart on their musical sleeves, with Jonathan Pierce effortlessly dropping sentimental expressions alongside darkly-tinted humor alongside each other. That's no different on the band's latest album “Abysmal Thoughts”, and which gets highlighted (along with some older material) in this VIP Concert at the Triple Door in Seattle. Grab Some leftovers, take a break from Holiday shopping specials, and join the Boys of OUTSpoken “After Thanksgiving Show.” World Aids Day is now on our minds more so than other with the change in political front. Today we Talk with Gaye Weiss and Kaleb Ashby about AIDS, Spokane SAN and World AIDS Day. Camille Bloom CAMILLE BLOOM Seattle-based, Gibson endorsed musician Camille Bloom has performed at premiere venues in eight different countries including Canada, the U.S., Germany, Netherlands, England, Denmark, Belgium and Ireland. Combining percussive guitar and a voice that can “purr and wail” (Victory Review), “Camille’s music can make even the rain dance.” (Mike Galaxy – Indy Hits promotion). The powerhouse singer/songwriter has been said to sound ”like Ani Difranco dipped in maple syrup”. (Spokane Inlander). Once a high school teacher, Camille was lured out of her education career by an investor who promised her thirty to fifty thousand dollars if she would leave her job. Camille immediately applied for leave in the district and after successfully negotiating a contract set up a meeting date with the investor to sign all of the paperwork and make it official. Unfortunately, the investor never showed up to sign the contract and was never heard from again. Having already given notice at her job with a year’s sabbatical, Camille had nothing to do but give it her best shot on the road and see where it would lead. In the last eight years, Camille has had songs licensed for use in twenty one shows on a variety of channels including MTV, E! and Oxygen. Additionally, she has completed over 30 national / international tours and has had her music played on over 40 major and college radio stations throughout the U.S. and Western Europe. She also charted on the European FAR (Freeform American Roots) Charts in 2009 with other music greats Bob Dylan, Steve Earle and Iron & Wine. She won the “Best Female Indie Artist” at the Ladylake Music Awards in 2010. Camille’s last full length release Never Out Of Time was released in 2011 and she enlisted the help of star producer Martin Feveyear, whose production credits include REM, Presidents of the United States, Rosie Thomas and Brandi Carlile. The album and the artist were lauded nationally by Music Connection, The Advocate, M for Musicians and more. Her new EP Big Dreams is scheduled for a November 2013 release. Known for her incredibly dynamic voice and edgy acoustic rock, Camille’s U.S. touring has included gigs at New York City’s Bitter End, Boston’s Club Passim, Seattle’s Triple Door, Tractor, and Crocodile, Los Angeles’ The Mint and over 150 other rooms spanning the nation. She has shared the stage with numerous acts including Smashmouth, SUGARCULT, Metric, Carbon Leaf, Brandi Carlile, Mike McCready (Pearl Jam) and many more. The Seattle Gay News calls Camille “A dynamite performer who combines a mix of twisted acoustic funk rock with haunting melodies and soaring vocals.” In addition to touring full time with club dates and festival appearances, Camille takes time out of her schedule to direct a Rock N Roll camp for kids in Seattle – and she also makes regular stops at youth centers – performing and talking to kids about using positive outlets such as music to cope with life’s struggles. Camille has gained an avid and adoring fanbase with her high energy and intensely personal show. She loves touring at home and abroad and has booked herself on numerous European tours. Check out Camille’s website and learn more about her and the tours – www.hotmesssunday.com
Monday afternoon may not be the ideal time for a loud, full-force rock show, but it is, however, the perfect setting for a set of winding, country-colored jams, which is what the audience received when Israel Nash and his band took the stage. The Dripping Springs, Texas musician's lush, almost psychedelic desert jams reached a new peak on his latest LP, 2015's Israel Nash's Silver Season, but nothing captures the loose, free-flowing energy of Nash's best work like snapshots of his live sets like this one recorded at the Triple Door on a breezy July afternoon. Recorded 07/25/16 - 7 songs: Rexanimarum, Mansions, LA Lately, Lavendula, Parlour Song, Rain Plans, Isn't It A PitySupport the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On this week’s episode of SMI Radio, I catch up with Ritzy on the road. She talks about how the band brings their intensity and rock and roll attitude whether they are playing a club, theater, arena, or festival. Ritzy also shares her love of Seattle and the passion that Seattle has for music in general. She also talks about the band’s appearance in the Jawbone / Jam Box commercial, which featured the stunning song This Ladder is Ours (See Video Below). You’ll also hear selected tracks from Wolf’s Law and the aptly titled, The Big Roar. The second half of the show features Kelly Donovan and Ben Weller from Beat 100. It’s a music video and social network with primary focus on the two music video charts; one for originals and another for covers. Every week, the charts are compiled and the top three winners are rewarded with cash prizes, along with press releases, which are distributed worldwide. BEAT100 also includes a social network, where musicians can connect with each other, find new fans, and gain likes/followers on their social networking platforms. Kelly and Ben share their thoughts on how Beat 100 and can benefit artists and how the site continues to add some sexy functionality. In the last segment of the show, SMI contributor / photographer Mat Hayward shares his thoughts on the first annual Roctographer Happy Hour event taking place at The Triple Door tonight, April 4th, in Seattle. To read more about the event, click the link below.
On this week’s episode of SMI Radio, Justin and Jim stop by the studio to talk about their long-term friendship and musical kinship. They also select a few tracks from their self-titled EP, which you’ll hear on this week’s show. If you want to see Science! do their thing live, they’ll be playing Nectar Lounge on Tuesday, March 26, at 8pm. Nicki Bluhm and The Gramblers‘ sound harkens back to the days of early 70s southern California rock, which spawned the likes of Jackson Brown and The Eagles. Bluhm and her band captures the spirit of that beautiful sound while putting their own stamp on it. The band has garnered a lot of attention from the viral video recorded in their car of Hall & Oats, I Can’t Go For That, resulting in almost 2 million views. In the second half of the show, California artist Nicki Bluhm shares her thoughts in a backstage interview prior to her sold-out show at Seattle’s Triple Door. Nicki talks about some of her musical influences, such as Linda Ronstadt, Karen Carpenter, and Stevie Nicks.
This week’s episode of SMI Radio features two brilliant artists, who each have very powerful and organic sounds, coupled with very strong production and songwriting: Campfire Ok and Kristen Ward. In the first half of the show, members of Campfire Ok, Michael Mychal Cohen, Brandon Milner, and the band’s newest member, Zarni De Wet (who was on the last episode here) stopped by the SMI Radio studio. These talented musicians chat up their brand new record, When You Have Arrived, and special show coming up next Saturday night, February 16 and Sunday night February 17th at The Showbox at The Market (on the bill with The Presidents of The United States of America). They share their take on their own unique and eclectic music and their appearance in the documentary, Welcome to Doe Bay. They also call out another Seattle band, Pickwick, for a throwdown – but it’ is all in good fun! In the second half of the show, we hit up Kristen Ward on the phone to talk about her stellar performance last Friday at The Triple Door, which featured all of the songs of her most recent record, Last Night On Division. Read the review and check out photos from the show by clicking the link below.
this week’s episode of SMI Radio, once again we take you inside the famous Hurricane Cafe (see photos below) for an interesting and insightful conversation with the eclectic and talented Brent Amaker. Brent talks about his interesting brand of “cowboy rock” and his influences that include everything from Johnny Cash, to the Ramones, to 80′s New Wave. Brent also talks about his love for the road, the state of country music, and more. Brent Amaker and The Rodeo will take the stage next Wednesday, November 21st at The Triple Door. Tickets are available for purchase here. In the second half of the show, you’ll hear from guitarist and vocalist Lukas Nelson. Lukas talks about his many musical influences that include his father, Willie Nelson, his song writing process, and his most recent appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman. Lukas was recently in town to play a show at Tractor with past SMI Radio guests and friends, Ayron Jones & The Way.
This week’s episode of SMI Radio features in-depth conversations with Lomolo’s Meagan Grandall and Kendra Cox, and tracks from their most recent effort, The Kaleidescope, released this past June). With the landmark Hurricane Cafe as a backdrop, the duo discusses friendship, musical partnership, influences, and more. (For SMI Radio show run times, scroll down below.)

Guitarist Bubba Jones was not available, but his cat Tomita was happy to sit in instead, although she didn’t have a lot to say. They spoke about their trip to Austin, their forthcoming record, and future show dates, and feature some of their music. The second half of SMI Radio features an interview with Critical Sun artist Darrius Wilrich, right after he came offstage at The Triple Door record release show. Check out one of his songs – already a hit in Brazil! – as well as some new tracks from Critical Sun Recording artists Sightseer, Stacy Jones Band and In Cahoots, who are all in Austin this week.
