The Thought Closet: Discovering the Power of Intentional Thinking Just like a wardrobe, we have a "thought wardrobe" filled with thoughts we wear daily. It's essential to evaluate whether these thoughts serve us well or need to be replaced. We choose outfits that reflect our style and personality, we also curate thoughts that impact how we perceive ourselves. These thoughts can be seen as the mental attire we don each day; some may fit us perfectly, while others may feel outdated or ill-fitting. Host Tonya Leigh encourages listeners to evaluate these thoughts and ask themselves if they truly resonate with the life they desire and their personal values. By consciously selecting our thoughts, much like we choose our outfits, we can cultivate a self-image that aligns with our true selves. Tune in to discover how to shop for the most beautiful and empowering thoughts to enhance your life! Show Notes Episode 500(!): Who's Afraid of Grenada? Part 2 of Summer Series 2025 This week Host Dave Bledsoe dressed up in his old Air Force dress uniform and staggered into a bar insisting he was there to “liberate” the Jameson. (His invasion was repulsed by an annoyed bouncer) On the show this week part two of Summer Series 2025 “You Can Have A Little War, As A Treat” continues with 1983's Invasion of Grenada. Along the way we discover that Dave may have covered up a brutal murder in the late 1980's. (Admittedly, the victim was a swan.) Then we dive right into the history of the tiny island nation of Grenada, from its discovery by Columbus, to colonization by the French and the British. From there we discuss how the long claws of Communism grabbed the peaceful island via the construction of an airport. (That was actually paid for by the United Kingdom.) Then we learn why Ronald Reagan sent thousands of US Troops to “rescue” some perfectly safe medical students. (Hint: It was politically expedient.) Our Sponsor this week is the Grenada Tourism Board, who invite you to try a little Pure Grenada! We open the show with news from 1983 and close with Berbice who loves his island. Welcome back to The Habit Within! I'm Camille Kinzler, and in this episode of our Summer Series, I had the honor of talking with two incredible women who are living with intention, showing up fully—even in the middle of real, messy, everyday life.We often think that living "on purpose" means having it all together. But what if purpose isn't about perfection—it's about alignment, grace, and showing up anyway? In this episode, I'm joined by Dr. Kayla Abeid and Renae Fieck, two women who embody what it means to live intentionally while navigating all the things: motherhood, careers, transitions, and growth. They each bring their own perspective on staying grounded, honoring your energy, and choosing presence—even when life feels like a lot.In this episode, we explore:How Dr. Kayla navigates life as a mom, therapist, and entrepreneur—without letting burnout take the lead. Why choosing purpose isn't always a big, dramatic moment—it's often quiet, consistent, and deeply personal. The power of nervous system awareness and practical mindset tools to help you stay grounded and focused. How Renae moves through chaos with intention, and why creating white space in your schedule might be the thing your soul is craving.Reframing productivity and redefining success, especially in seasons of motherhood or transition. This one's for you if you're feeling stretched, spinning too many plates, or just needing a gentle reminder that you can still be on purpose—even in the messy middle.I'd love to hear from you: Send me a message or leave a review if this conversation speaks to you. What happens when the very word "Father" triggers pain instead of comfort? For many, reconciling the image of God as Father with traumatic experiences of earthly fathers creates a profound spiritual struggle. This episode navigates the delicate terrain of father wounds with both gentleness and honesty. We acknowledge that many listeners bring experiences of neglect, absence, abuse, or abandonment to their understanding of God. These wounds can make it nearly impossible to trust that God as Father is fundamentally different from the human fathers who caused harm.Scripture doesn't shy away from questioning God. Job rants for thirteen chapters. David's laments fill the Psalms. Even Jesus cried out, "My God, why have you forsaken me?" The biblical invitation to "reason together" with God (Isaiah 1:18) actually means "argue it out"—God welcomes your wrestling, your questions, and even your anger. If you're limping through life with father wounds, we pray you'll encounter the God who binds up bruises and heals wounds, not with pat answers, but with His loving presence.

Anna Arendt is a photographer and visual artist living and working in Berlin whose images explore memory, silence, loss, and the invisible links between personal history and larger events. Her work often moves between personal, historical, and symbolic worlds, shot in black-and-white to capture places where the past and present meet.Anna was born in the German Democratic Republic and was 24 when The Wall fell, at which time her daughter was two. Her parents were born 1940 in Germany, children of war. Both of her grandfathers had been soldiers, who had been in Poland between 1940 and 1942. One came back 2 years after the war was over, the other one never returned. As a child Anna found a secret shelf that contained photo albums of her family. "It is where I discovered the power of a picture. A picture taken in summer 1940. A young family, my grandmother, her baby and my grandfather in a German uniform. A picture full of contradictions, carrying ambivalent feelings even today."Anna graduated with a degree in Fine Arts and Set Design and then received a one-year grant from the DAAD to study photography at the School of Visual Arts in New York. For 15 years, she worked as a set and costume designer for opera, drama, and puppet theater, collaborating with directors at theaters across Germany and Switzerland.Anna recently published her first book, Vanishing, with Charcoal Press. Photographed mostly between Germany and Poland over 15 years, the work slides back and forth through time like a blood memory. Walking naked through the dark forest, wolves circling, howling. A daughter becoming a mother becoming a grandmother becoming a child. Haunted villages, and souls in jeopardy. The harsh reality of the past merges seamlessly with moments of rapture that feel plucked from a Grimm fairy tale.Photography has now become the center of Anna's creative life. She continues to develop long-term projects that reflect her search for meaning in places marked by beauty, pain, and the mysteries of time. Alongside her artistic work, she also works with disabled people in an art workshop, sharing the joy of creative expression. In episode 260, Anna discusses, among other things:The origins of her photographyGrowing up in East GermanyBeginning to understand her family historyThe fall of the Berlin wall in 1989Being ‘connected to pictures'The importance of visiting Poland and its significance for her familyThe cast of characters in the book, including wolves…….And her friend, who sadly diedAllowing the photograph to tell her what it wants to be (and where)How Charcoal Press came to publish the bookHer collaboration with publisher Jesse LenzHaving a day job and a change of identityWhat she's currently up to in the darkroom EPISODE SPONSORS:CHARCOAL WORKSHOPS. Parent Control or Kid Control?” In this summer-focused episode of the Crazy Cool Family Podcast, Don and Suzanne unpack one of the biggest tensions in parenting: control. Should parents stay in charge, or is it time to pass the baton to the kids? From laundry to technology boundaries to mealtime training, the Mannings offer real-life examples and practical steps to give kids “jurisdiction” over parts of their lives—without giving up your values or sanity. The episode dives into the difference between self-discipline and self-indulgence, showing how giving your child responsibility actually creates peace at home. Plus, you'll learn how lack of self-control invites chaos, while wise training builds strong family foundations. Whether your child is 3 or 13, this conversation will equip you to rethink your approach, create growth opportunities, and enjoy a more connected, freedom-filled summer. Bonus: It all ties back to Proverbs 25:28 and the vital role of self-control.

Send us a textWelcome back to Part Three of our Summer Series on Research 101! I'm once again joined by Chris Patty here in my recording closet. In Part One, we explored the history of research, Chris defined what research truly means, and we had some insightful discussions about nursing literature. An important takeaway from that episode was Chris's enthusiasm for AI and its potential in our field. In Part Two, we shifted our focus to developing the research protocol, particularly before presenting it to the Institutional Review Board (IRB). Chris helped demystify the IRB process, detailing its structure and what's needed for protocol approval. He also introduced the hierarchy of evidence, emphasizing its importance in the research landscape and reiterating how AI is influencing healthcare and nursing practices. If you missed those episodes, I highly recommend going back and giving them a listen! In this concluding episode, we tackled four crucial aspects of the research process: data collection, analysis, publication, and dissemination. After all, why invest so much effort in formulating your PICO question, facing the IRB, conducting your study, and collecting data, only to keep your findings to yourself? That would be quite insane! Before we wrapped up, I asked Chris why conducting research is so important, and his answer hit home, so be sure to listen for that.I'm a bit sad that our summer series is coming to an end. I've had such a rewarding time learning from Chris, and I hope you have too. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated, so feel free to share your thoughts! Hey friends—welcome back to the final episode of the Feel Good Summer Series! I'm so glad you've been here with me.In Episode 1, we talked about feeling good in your body right now—not 10 pounds from now, not when the scale hits a certain number, not when life feels more “on track.” Just now. We learned that you don't have to change your body to feel good in it—you just have to start reconnecting with it, showing it some compassion, and meeting your needs where you are.In Episode 2, we focused on adding feel-good foods. Not restricting, not obsessing—just gently adding more nourishment to help you feel more energized, steady, and satisfied. Because food should help you feel better—not guilty, stressed, or overwhelmed. And today, in our final episode, I want to talk about something that comes up a lot when the seasons change or when life starts to feel busy again. How to keep feeling good without starting over every Monday. This episode is for you if you've ever felt like:“I was doing so well… then I lost momentum.”“I need to restart on Monday.”Or even “I fell off track and now I feel like I blew it.”Connect with us on social media and check out our website:INSTAGRAMDAILY DIETITIAN
I was first introduced to Cecile Simmons from her essay on being an expert on wellness misinformation and yet falling down a rabbit hole of social media fueled wellness trends even as she knew she was being duped. After that I was hooked (relatable!). We talk about the upsetting relationship between wellness, misinformation/disinformation and politics. In a world filled with conflicting information and the political agendas that shape wellness, the need for a balanced approach to health that prioritizes genuine well-being over societal pressures is even more needed.Cecile's book Ctrl Delete Hate is out now - get it HEREFind Cecile Simmons work HERE and HEREI've written about ‘eating a lot' here Guacamole FulfillmentAnd how not all poor mental health is ‘bad' - enjoy!Curious about exercise?
