October 10 is such an insanely packed week that we wanted to review a few of the new releases a little early here at Breakfast All Day: TRON: ARES: The third movie in the "Tron" series has a dopey script but extremely cool visual effects and a great soundtrack from Nine Inch Nails. A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE: Kathryn Bigelow is back with a sharp, tense tale about what happens when an unknown country launches a nuclear strike against the United States. In theaters this weekend before streaming on Netflix Oct. 24. KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN: This splashy movie musical from "Dreamgirls" director Bill Condon features dazzling production numbers, lush production values and great performances from Jennifer Lopez, Diego Luna and Tonatiuh, who is going to be a star. Marisha Wallace brings both powerhouse vocals and fearless honesty to this conversation, diving deep into what it really means to lead Cabaret during one of the most politically charged times in recent memory. She shares how audience reactions shifted depending on the day's headlines, and how she embraced the role not just as entertainment, but as activism—using art to help people process the world around them. From growing up in North Carolina to moving to London on a week's notice, Marisha's journey is anything but ordinary. She reflects on the leaps of faith that shaped her career, the moments when following her gut changed everything, and the surreal honor of performing for the King of England. It’s Joel’s Superbowl... the Tony Awards, baby! Broadway’s night of nights delivered drama, vocals, and plenty of Aussie pride. Sarah Snook scored Best Actress for her one-woman powerhouse performance in The Picture of Dorian Gray, while Cynthia Erivo hosted the show like the queen she is, belting Dreamgirls and squeezing in 47 costume changes. Nicole Scherzinger stunned the room with her vocal control, stamina, and that shiny new Tony. Meanwhile, Billie Eilish’s new boyfriend sparked questions, Chris Martin confused us all with a Dakota Johnson shout-out, and Celine Dion turned up looking like your child dressed as their dad. Big vibes.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Angela Robinson Whitehurst returns to the show to bring her Broadway experience to discussing Wicked and the translation from stage to screen. Dr. Gee and Angela discuss the timing of seeing race brought to the forefront of this version of Wicked, compared to when the stage musical was first a part of our culture. The power of fantasy and musical stories is that deep ideas about culture can be explored through an alternate version of our world. It allows us to see the realities of our world through a different lens. Angela also exposes the way that Black women were not allowed into the Alphoba role before the film version, but now that will be the standard as the significance of the character has been redefined by Blackness. They continue their conversation about Black voices and stories in Hollywood, including having to make representation happen for themselves. A native of Jacksonville, FL, Angela Robinson is best-known as The Ice Queen Veronica Harrington of Tyler Perry's The Haves and The Have Nots. For her work as Veronica she is the 2015 recipient of the Gracie Award (Best Female Actress – One to Watch). Angela has worked on Broadway, off Broadway and on stages throughout the US and abroad. Broadway productions include The Color Purple with Fantasia, Wonderful Town, Bells Are Ringing, and Play On! She has participated in National Tours of The Color Purple, Dreamgirls, and The Wizard of Oz with Eartha Kitt. Her television/film credits include Law & Order: SVU, Another Bed and several regional and national commercials. She is the Winner of an Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) award for her work as Shug Avery in The Color Purple, Angela has been nominated twice for a Black Theatre Alliance Award (The Color Purple, Dreamgirls), and for an Audelco Award (Radiant Baby). She is also a member of the Tony Award winning Broadway Inspirational Voices. In 2008 Angela and her husband Scott founded the WhiteRobin Group. WhiteRobin Group is a consulting firm for aspiring and seasoned artists; providing training, inspiration and direction via acting workshops, private acting coaching, blogs and mentorship programs.
