His career began as a teenage stand up comedian in New York and quickly rose to super stardom by the age of 19, when he joined the cast of “Saturday Night Live” in 1980. The novel explores six months in the life of a Bavarian family during the rise of Hitler. We ask publisher Francesca Beauman and historian Lara Feigel why the novel needs to be read today.
