B. Cox reviews Common's classic sixth album Be as it turns 20. In light of the commercial failure and mixed critical reviews, Common found some common ground in aligning with fellow Chicago hip-hop royalty Kanye West and his GOOD Music imprint on Geffen Record. A former pupil of No. ID, who produced the majority of Common's second and third albums (Resurrection and One Day It'll All Make Sense, respectively), West proved to be a good match to get Common back on tracks and back to his hip-hop roots in the Windy City.Largely solely produced by West (with minor assists from J. Dilla, James Poyser and Karriem Riggins), Common showcased in depth lyricism marked by poignant stories about life in Chicago and themes of the streets, love, feminism, ambition and knowledge of self. Joined by collaborators such as The Last Poets, John Mayer along with label mate John Legend and West himself, the album was a well layered effort that served towards Common's strengths. The album featured many singles, highlighted by "The Corner", "Go!" and "Testify". The album was Common's 2nd album to be certified gold and is often thought to be his "comeback album". It is also regarded along with Like Water For Chocolate as his best work.Visit The Vault Classic Music Reviews Onlinewww.vaultclassicpod.comBuy Exclusive The Vault Podcast Merchandise!www.vaultclassicpod.com/storeSupport The Vault Classic Music Reviews on Buy Me A Coffeehttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/vaultclassicpodBuild Your Own Amazing Podcast Website In Less Than 5 Minutes!https://www.podpage.com/?via=ivecre8Show NotesOkayPlayer: Common's 'Be' Getting 20th Anniversary Re-Release with 11 New Trackshttps://www.okayplayer.com/common-be-20th-anniversarySupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-vault-classic-music-reviews-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Why is Rosé the go-to wine for celebrity-owned brands rather than Chardonnay or Cabernet? Why are the younger generations of wine drinkers choosing Rosé over red? Is the Rosé boom just a trend, or is its popularity here to stay? In this episode of the Unreserved Wine Talk podcast, I'm chatting with Rasmus Emborg & Jens Honoré, who co-published the Rose Revolution. You can find the wines we discussed at https://www.nataliemaclean.com/winepicks Highlights What are the main differences between wines from Domaine Tempier and Domaine Ott? What makes some Rosé wines better for aging than others? How did Gerard Bertrand's background influence his winemaking style? Which Provençal cuisine dishes pair best with the Rosé wines? Why do so many celebrities who come to the wine world choose to make Rosé? Which celebrity wines are worth buying? How has social media impacted the Rosé Revolution? What does the future look like for Rosé's popularity? Why have more men started drinking Rosé? Which wine regions should wine lovers visit to immerse themselves in the world of Rosé? Key Takeaways Why is Rosé the go-to wine for celebrity-owned brands rather than Chardonnay or Cabernet? As Rasmus and Jens explain, Rosé is much easier to embrace for a broad audience. Rosé has a lot of lovers, but they don't have any enemies. So you can be a serious musician, a rocker, a pop star, and embrace Rosé. When you're just a celebrity and not a winemaker it's way more bankable and easier to market. We tried a lot of those wines and I'll tell you, some of them are pretty good, big bang for the buck. Brad Pitt, John Legend, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jon Bon Jovi, Cameron Diaz and Kylie Minogue Why are the younger generations of wine drinkers choosing Rosé over red? Rasmus and Jens observe that young people don't drink much red wine, but they drink a lot of white wine and Rosé because it's kind of like a celebratory wine. It's become a wine you kind of gather around. You don't disagree about it. You can't be talked down to if you don't know the terroir, the grapes etc. If it's endorsed by a rapper or rock music or whatever, it enhances that experience. Is the Rosé boom just a trend or is its popularity here to stay? Rasmus and Jens believe that Rosé has established itself as a third wine category. We'll still see the quality improve and higher price points. In France, 3 out of 10 bottles are Rosé, globally, it's about one out of 10. They are seeing a trend of Rosé taking market share from red wine whereas white wine is stable. About Rasmus Emborg & Jens Honoré Rasmus Emborg is a journalist who has worked in the media industry for over 25 years. He is the author of Beer Brothers (2019), about twin beer brewers Mikkel Borg-Bjergsø and Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø. He and his wife own a small vineyard in Provence. The grapes are mainly used for rosé wine, and the production takes place at a local cooperative. Jens Honoré is a photographer who has worked in the advertising industry for 30 years. In 2018, he published A Place to Dream for SOS Children's Villages, and in partnership with Jens Vilstrup, he published the book, Farewell to a Black/White World about the UN's 2015 Sustainable Development Goals. Federal prosecutors have recently presented new evidence to a grand jury in the Southern District of New York as part of the ongoing investigation into Sean "Diddy" Combs. This evidence includes testimony from Courtney Burgess, a former associate of Combs' late ex-girlfriend, Kim Porter. Burgess claims to possess significant materials, such as video footage and what he asserts is Porter's authentic memoir, which he believes substantiate allegations against Combs. He testified that federal agents from the Department of Homeland Security contacted him, leading to his grand jury appearance and the submission of these materials to prosecutors. In addition to Burgess's testimony, investigators have interviewed approximately ten male escorts regarding Combs' infamous "Freak Off" parties. These individuals, now in their 40s, have reportedly provided detailed accounts of the events, including allegations of being supplied with drugs and coerced into participation. Authorities are examining whether participants, particularly minors, were illegally forced into activities during these gatherings. Recent raids on Combs' residences resulted in the seizure of numerous items, including sexual paraphernalia and videos, as part of the broader investigation into allegations of sex trafficking and related offenses. In our second article...Ty Stiklorius, John Legend's longtime manager, recently shared a harrowing experience from nearly three decades ago at a New Year's Eve party hosted by Sean "Diddy" Combs in St. Barts. In an op-ed for The New York Times, she recounted being led into a bedroom by an unidentified man who then locked the door behind them. Stiklorius managed to escape by convincing the man to let her go, citing concern that her brother was looking for her. At the time, she dismissed the incident as an isolated case of inappropriate behavior at a party. However, after two decades in the music industry, she now views it as indicative of a pervasive culture that fosters sexual misconduct and exploitation.Stiklorius emphasized that such incidents are not anomalies but reflect a broader issue within the music industry, where power is often concentrated in the hands of male gatekeepers who exploit aspiring artists. She called for a cultural shift to dismantle this toxic environment, advocating for accountability and support for survivors. Stiklorius expressed hope that the industry can evolve beyond its current model, which has historically protected predators and their enablers, to create a safer and more equitable space for all artists.(commercial at 10:12)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Sean ‘Diddy' Combs: Grand jury hearing from witness who claims he has footage of Combs potentially victimizing celebrities | CNNsource:John Legend's manager escaped 'terrifying situation' at Sean 'Diddy' Combs party

In this episode we're keeping it in the family, as we're joined by our very own, very talented producer, Jonah Primo. Jonah has spent many years studying mindfulness, meditation and philosophy which he channels into his own podcast, The Overexamined Life - so who better to help us reflect on self-reflection.We all know Socrates' famous saying – the unexamined life is not worth living. But is it actually true? Does self-examination actually help us? And if so, in what way does it help? Do we end up happier, or just more aware of our limitations? And is there a point where it can do more harm than good? Maybe there's value in a richer, more self-aware life, even if we're not necessarily happier?Listen to Jonah's Podcast, "The Overexamined Life" here: https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/the-overexamined-life/id1771620846, or search it wherever you get your podcasts.BIOSJonah is a Sydney-based creative and entrepreneur. A former baseball standout from one of Texas' top-ranked high schools, Britton made a bold pivot from the field to the stage in 2022. After an accomplished athletic career filled with championship victories and junior college play, he chose to follow his musical calling instead of pursuing sports scholarships. Music has always been in his blood. His father was a gospel singer before founding a church with Britton's mother, where Britton continues to develop his voice through worship as well as writing his own music. Growing up with both White and Hispanic heritage, Lucia struggled to connect with her Mexican roots as she was raised away from that side of her family. Determined to embrace her lineage, she became fluent in Spanish while studying abroad in Spain. As a passionate music lover raised in Washington state, Lucia was particularly influenced by Brandi Carlile. A chance encounter in 2018, while Lucia was helping set up for Brandi's rehearsal at her high school, led to an impromptu singing session with one of the band members. Brandi overheard Lucia's talent and invited her to perform at a fundraiser concert. Today, Lucia performs regularly at local festivals and recently achieved a milestone by headlining her first show.ABOUT THE VOICEGet amped up! First off, Baby D is out due to a family emergency. Please send nothing but love and prayers her way. But, let's get into it. Fires are still burning through Southern California, and the city of Los Angeles wants to make sure their firefighters are appreciated by treating them to the soothing vocals of John Legend (2:23). To make matters worse, these men are incarcerated. They could've at least been treated to Sexxy Red (13:17). Speaking of which, Sexxy Red and Bruno Mars are dropping a new strip club anthem today (22:50). Once Demaris gets back, Rory has a few takes about Bruno he wants to debate her on. Then, we touch on the news that A$AP Rocky will not take a plea deal and will go to trial for gun charges (43:11). If he gets put behind bars, the whole C-Block better be using Rihanna's “Fenty” line. We then get interrupted with breaking news about Kendrick Lamar's announcement that SZA will be joining him for the Super Bowl Halftime Show (I promise this segment went fine) (57:10). We also discuss Mal's idea to Uber to keep women safe (34:30), a wild piece of Mississippi legislation (53:00), and what Beyonce's announcement could be about (1:16:50).For MORE Rory & Mal, make sure you subscribe to our Patreon community, for exclusive episodes, first access to tickets and merch sales, private live chats with the team, + more! https://www.patreon.com/newrorynmalFollow Rory: @ThisIsRoryFollow MAL: @MAL_ByTheWayFollow Demaris: https://linktr.ee/demarisg To watch the podcast on YouTube: https://bit.ly/NewRoryAndMALYouTube Don't forget to follow the podcast for free wherever you're listening or by using this link: https://bit.ly/NewRoryAndMAL Learn more about your ad choices.
