In this episode, we sit down with Arianna Davis Santana, Executive Editor of Digital at the TODAY Show, to explore what it really means to build a career at the center of modern media, and what ambition looks like once you're inside it.Arianna's career spans some of the most influential names in media: from Oprah Daily (formerly O, The Oprah Magazine) to the TODAY Show, where she now leads digital strategy and editorial direction while also appearing on-air to break down what's trending online. Before that, she helped launch OprahMag.com, the fastest-growing site launch in Hearst Magazines' history, and later helped lead its evolution into Oprah Daily. She has also shaped editorial storytelling at Refinery29, where she wrote deeply reported features and personal essays centered on culture, identity, and the lived experiences of women.Across every chapter of her career, Arianna has been inside the rooms where modern media is shaped - interviewing icons like Oprah Winfrey, Hillary Clinton, Mariah Carey, John Legend, Will Smith, and more, while also building digital platforms that define what millions of people read, watch, and share. But this conversation goes far beyond titles. We talk about:-The evolution of ambition in modern media-What success actually feels like once you achieve what you thought you wanted-Why leadership sometimes requires a little “Miranda Priestly energy”-How authenticity, kindness, and authority can coexist in powerful women-And how AI, digital culture, and storytelling are reshaping the future of mediaArianna also opens up about the deeper lessons she's learned along the way, including how career setbacks, reinvention, and visibility all shape who you become when no one is watching. At its core, this episode is about rewriting success, redefining ambition, and learning how to lead without losing yourself in the process.
On this episode of The Bandwich Tapes, I sit down with singer and songwriter Lila Forde for a conversation that feels like it's unfolding mid-song, equal parts instinct, craft, and heart. I actually discovered Lila in the most “Bandwich” way possible: while preparing for my episode with Larry Goldings, I heard her voice in a video and immediately texted a few musician friends saying, “You need to hear this singer.” That moment led to this conversation.Lila shares how her collaboration with Larry Goldings has been developing, and the creative process behind it: record everything, follow the spark, and build outward from the accidental moments that feel alive. Hearing her describe that approach, trusting discovery instead of forcing results, made me even more excited about what they're creating together. We spend a lot of time talking about voice, not range or technique, but identity. Lila recalls a powerful moment from John Legend during her time on The Voice: "Don't try to out-sing anyone… just be Lila." That idea opens up a deeper conversation about influence versus imitation, the pressure to fit into genre boxes, and the constant temptation to chase whatever sound the internet is rewarding in the moment.Lila's musical roots run deep, from classical piano at home to years in the Seattle Girls Choir, and later jazz studies that reshaped how she hears harmony and melody. She explains how ear training and solfege still influence her songwriting today, and why understanding just a little bit of theory can unlock creative freedom for singers. We also talk honestly about the gig-life reality that many musicians know well: some of your biggest growth happens when nobody is paying attention. For Lila, that meant years of hotel-lobby gigs, four hours a night, five nights a week, where she learned to experiment, take risks, and build a durable musical voice. We close by talking about her debut album Vessel, recorded live with the band in just three days, and how she's stepping into a bigger creative leadership role as she works on her next record.Key TakeawaysAuthenticity defines artistic voice — the goal isn't to out-sing others, but to sound like yourself.Creative discovery often comes from accidents — capturing and following spontaneous musical moments can lead to powerful ideas.Influence is different from imitation — artists grow by absorbing influences while protecting their own identity.Musical training builds creative vocabulary — ear training, harmony, and theory can open doors for singers.Gig experience shapes real musicianship — long, quiet gigs often provide the space to experiment and grow.Recording live captures energy — tracking Vessel with the band in three days preserved the immediacy of the music.Leadership evolves with each project — Lila is stepping further into the creative driver's seat with her next record.Music from the EpisodeTemptation - Lila FordeAll I Expected - Lila FordeBrick by Brick - Lila FordeAbout the PodcastThe Bandwich Tapes is a podcast hosted by Brad Williams, featuring conversations with musicians, composers, producers, and creative thinkers about their musical journeys. Grammy nominated songwriter Pynk Beard (aka Sebastian Kole) chats about his extensive work as a behind-the-scenes pop creator and gives us insight into his latest country-flavored album project. PART ONE Scott and Paul chat about their recent travels and how they find ways to make music tourism a part of any trip. PART TWO Our in-depth conversation with Pynk BeardABOUT PYNK BEARD: Pynk Beard is the artistic persona of Alabama-born Coleridge Tillman, who has already made a splash as a successful songwriter under the name Sebastian Kole. Growing up as a preacher's son in Birmingham Alabama, Pynk Beard's big break came when he contributed to “Goin' In,” which was recorded by Jennifer Lopez, featuring Flo Rida. He then signed with Motown Records as an artist and began collaborating as a writer and producer with Alessia Cara. He worked on most every track on her debut album Know-It-All, including the top 10 and multi-platinum pop hits “Here” and “Scars to Your Beautiful.” Soon after, he released his debut album as Sebastian Kole, a gospel and R&B influenced project called Soup. He continued working as a behind-the-scenes writer on songs such as “Bridges” by Fifth Harmony, “Freedom Rings” by Brandy, “Actions” by John Legend, “Time Machine” by Alicia Keys, and “Angel” by Halle Bailey, which found him collaborating with producer Neff-U and earning a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Song. His debut EP as Pynk Beard is Red Dirt Diaries, which was released in October of 2025 on Red Bull Records. A country project that embraces elements of gospel, R&B and hip hop, it's a bold new artistic direction that has quickly gained attention from fans of multiple genres. It was such an honor to have the opportunity to play at INDUSTRY in Puerto Vallarta back in February. But what made the night most special was that it was the after party celebrating the wedding of my two friends, Zach & Justin. From Tove Lo to John Legend (their first dance was to "All Of Me"), it was so much fun incorporating some of their favorite tracks into this set. Congrats guys! Here's to a long beautiful life together of love and adventure!
For most Black Americans, the family tree stops at a wall built by slavery. Dr. Gina Paige co-founded African Ancestry to tear down that wall. In this episode, she explains how her company uses DNA to trace Black people back to specific African countries and ethnic groups — not vague regions, not percentages, but actual present-day nations and peoples. Gina walks Simma through the science in plain language, explains why African Ancestry gets results other DNA companies can't, and talks about what happens inside people when they finally know where they come from. She also addresses the fears many Black Americans carry about genetic testing — Henrietta Lacks, Tuskegee, and who owns your DNA after you mail it in. This conversation is about identity, agency, and reclaiming what slavery tried to erase. Timestamps 02:15 — Meet Dr. Gina Paige The co-founder who started her first business at age 8 — before the internet. 04:30 — What African Ancestry actually does Tracing Black people back to specific African countries and ethnic groups before the transatlantic slave trade. 06:45 — From Colgate-Palmolive to Howard University How a corporate marketer partnered with a genetic researcher to build something that had never existed before. 09:20 — Why genealogy fails Black Americans Black people weren't counted as human beings in US records until the 1870 census. DNA is the only way back. 11:30 — The science, made simple "If your mother's yellow and your father's blue, what color are you?" How mitochondrial DNA holds the key. 14:15 — Why everyone gets "Nigeria" from other DNA tests African Ancestry has 33,000+ samples from 35 African countries. The closest competitor has 6,000 — half of them Nigerian. 17:00 — How African Ancestry is different Other companies look at the mixing. Real. 21:30 — What happens when people get their results "We don't come from people who were enslaved. We come from doctors, healers, astronomers, philosophers, kings and queens." 24:45 — Why erasing Black history is a losing game Gina on power, pride, and what oppressors don't want you to know. 27:20 — Your DNA, protected African Ancestry is the only company that cannot sell or share your genetic data. The lab is contractually required to destroy your DNA after testing. 29:50 — The 23andMe bankruptcy and what happens to your DNA Why insurance companies and pharmaceutical firms should never have access to your genetic information without your knowledge. 32:10 — Henrietta Lacks, Tuskegee, and the case for participating anyway Gina's honest answer to Black friends who refuse genetic testing out of fear. 36:00 — One test, one whole family Why Simma's sister taking the test means Simma already has her answer — and so do 25 of her cousins. 39:15 — Citizenship, name changes, and going home The 12 people who gained Sierra Leonean citizenship. The artists, authors, and families whose lives changed after one result. 42:30 — What to look for in any at-home DNA test Gina's three rules before you spit in a tube or swab your cheek. Guest Bio Dr. Gina Paige is co-founder and President of African Ancestry, Inc. In 2003, she pioneered a new way to trace African lineages through genetics. She has revealed the African roots of Oprah Winfrey, John Legend, Chadwick Boseman, Spike Lee, Condoleezza Rice, and the King family. A Washington, DC native and lifelong entrepreneur, Gina launched her first business at age eight and spent her early career running brands at Colgate-Palmolive and Sara Lee before building African Ancestry into the world's largest collection of indigenous African lineage samples. “A mark of an intelligent person is humility. If you have the right amount of humility, then you're seeking out knowledge from others rather than thinking you're going to invent something new. It's really about executing well on ideas.” — Deborah Kenny When her husband died of leukemia, leaving her a single mother of three small children, Deborah Kenny read Viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning. She discovered her own meaning not in what she could get out of life, but what life was asking of her. And so she founded the Harlem Village Academies — a collection of K-12 charter schools in New York offering both free Montessori and the International Baccalaureate education. Kenny's new book, The Well-Educated Child, is the distillation of what she's learned in twenty-five years as a teacher. But it's simply summarized. Read books, she instructs. The more the better. Kenny's three-part definition of a well-educated child — quality thinking, agency, ethical purpose — requires reading fifty books a year. She did it with her own three children after her husband died — the closet door coming off its hinges and exiled in the garage for five years because she didn't have the time to call a handyman. But her kids fell in love with reading. And she's done the same with every cohort at the Harlem Village Academies over the last quarter century. The crisis in American education isn't primarily a crisis of resources, Kenny says. It's a crisis of will. Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning changed Deborah Kenny's life. If you want to change your kid's life, get them reading. A book a week. That's how to nurture not just a well-educated child but a responsible citizen. Five Takeaways • Viktor Frankl and the Question That Changed Everything: After her husband died of leukemia, leaving her a single mother of three young children, Kenny read Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning and found the question she'd been looking for: not what life has to offer you, but what is life asking of you. Her answer was to found the Harlem Village Academies — five charter schools in Harlem offering Montessori and the International Baccalaureate free of charge. The origin story matters because the book's argument isn't abstract. Kenny has lived it, as a grieving parent and as an educator, for twenty-five years. • Fifty Books a Year: Kids should be reading fifty books a year — at least an hour a day — and this should never change. Not passages, not graphic novels, not summaries: books. Great books that have stood the test of time, alongside books children get to choose for themselves. Kenny did it with her own three children after her husband died — the closet door came off its hinges and stayed in the garage for five years because she didn't have time to call a handyman, but her kids fell in love with reading. She has done it with every cohort at the Harlem Village Academies for twenty years. It is not unrealistic. It is essential. • If You Can't Argue the Other Side, You Don't Understand the Issue: Kenny's X post that caught Andrew's attention. Socratic seminar — the ability to argue a position you disagree with, back it up with evidence, and then live in the same community as the person you just defeated — is not a pedagogical technique. It's the definition of democracy. The polarisation crisis is, at its root, an education crisis. Elected officials no longer need to solve problems; they only need to stoke tribal loyalties. The fix is teaching children to enjoy disagreement — to take pride in an intellectually rigorous argument rather than treating opposition as hostility. • Pay Teachers Like Doctors: The Harlem Village Academies are the only schools in New York State offering both Montessori and the International Baccalaureate, free of charge. They run on teacher dedication that, Kenny admits, is not fair to the teachers and is not scalable. Her honest answer: if we want this level of education for everyone, we have to pay teachers like doctors and lawyers — three, four, six times what they currently earn. Teaching should be the hardest profession to enter and the most respected. The fact that it isn't is not an argument against the vision. It's an argument for changing the system. • Humility Is the Mark of an Intelligent Person: Kenny's educational philosophy borrows rather than invents. Montessori, the International Baccalaureate, Socratic seminar, the great books — none of these are new. She chose them precisely because they have stood the test of time. The mark of an intelligent person, she argues, is humility: if you have the right amount of it, you seek out knowledge from others rather than assuming you're going to invent something better. We are so excited to kick off our Interviews at Sea series with DAWES! We had the chance to talk to brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith aboard Cayamo: A Journey Through Song during their 18th voyage in March 2026 in front of a packed audience. The guys have been performing as Dawes since 2009, but the band has been a duo since their 2024 album, 'Oh Brother.' The Goldsmiths have been singing and playing together their whole lives inspired by their musician father, Lenny Goldsmith, who toured as the lead singer of Tower of Power in the 1980s. Taylor was never told it was hard to play guitar or sing, so he just did it. He always knew he wanted to be a professional musician. We talk about the ways his musical career turned out as not quite what he had expected. We also touch on how their singing has evolved over the course of their lives together. Both Taylor and Griff are fathers, so of course we asked about the freedom that comes with priorities changing in their lives and careers – as well as what toys they may have regretted ever letting their kids have. One thing following Dawes around for the past year is the aftermath of the January 2025 Eaton Fire in Los Angeles. Both brothers and their parents suffered immense loss due to the flames sweeping through Altadena, destroying thousands of homes and causing over 30 deaths. Griffin's son was born two weeks after the fire, a month early. Dawes became the musical face of the disaster with an emotional performance on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' and opening the GRAMMYs with Randy Newman's “I Love LA” with a veritable supergroup: Sheryl Crow, Brad Paisley, Brittany Howard, St. Vincent, and John Legend. The brothers get into what the experience taught them about healing and reaching a place where this tragedy does not define them. We hear a bit about Taylor's love of collecting first editions and his fear of the comment section and we wrap up with a fun "Which One?" lightning round. Not everyone gets the happy childhood or strong family they dreamed of. Dr. John Trent, founder of StrongFamilies, grew up without ever knowing his father until later in life. The pain and confusion from that absence shaped his early years — until a godly man stepped into his life and introduced him to Jesus. But the trials didn't stop there. Years later, John faced one of a father's greatest fears — a wayward daughter. Through unwavering love, persistent prayer, and trust in God, he fought for restoration… and saw it happen. This is a powerful story of redemption, forgiveness, healing, and legacy — proof that God can turn deep brokenness into blessing. Send us Fan MailCan't leave too much of this one out in public, but here's a taste of the whole show! In this explosive episode, supermodel and Epstein insider Barbara Adler is back and she has stories about the Hollywood elite that will make your jaw drop — and I mean DROP — Dana and Barbara uncover ties between David Copperfield, David Blaine, and Jeffrey Epstein unlike anything you've heard before, including why David Copperfield just quietly walked away from his 25-year Las Vegas residency and what the Epstein files say about what he and Epstein may have been doing together with young models from Elite Model Management. Barbara Adler was inside this world and what she witnessed firsthand about the modeling industry's darkest figures — there was the shocking Look of the Year judge panel that included Donald Trump, David Copperfield, and sexual predator Patrick Demarchelier — will make you rethink everything. We're also getting into Paris Hilton stories from someone who was in the inner circle — the parties, the clique, the people nobody talks about including Rick Solomon, Kim Stewart, Cisco Adler, Misha Barton, and a Benicio del Toro bombshell. Then Harvey Weinstein tried the wrong move on Barbara at Bungalow 8 — and wait until you hear who showed up to rescue her and what happened on the way out the door involving Lindsay Lohan, a bag, and Page Six. We're also covering Diddy and something Barbara witnessed on a boat in St. Tropez before his show that I genuinely cannot believe and Chrissy Teigen's name showing up in the Epstein black book plus what John Legend said about her that nobody is talking about. Plus Gerald Marie the head of Elite Paris and his connection to Linda Evangelista, Carrie Otis, and a lawsuit tied directly back to Epstein — and Barbara's own agent Faith Cates at Next Model Management and what The Guardian just exposed about kickbacks and Jean-Luc Brunel owning 25% of her agency. This one goes deep and it connects dots that will genuinely shock you.TO LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE IN IT'S ENTIRETY GO HERE: https://www.patreon.com/cw/DishingDramaWithDanaWilkeySupport the showDana is on Cameo!Follow Dana: @Wilkey_Dana$25,000 Song - Apple Music$25,000 Song - SpotifyTo support the show and listen to full episodes, become a member on PatreonTo send Dana information, show requests and sponsorships reach out to our new email: dishingdramadana@gmail.comDana's YouTube Channel
Chic with Nile Rodgers, People, CNN, ABC, BET, FOXRobin Roberts & Whoopi Goldberg LOVE Them!!Music & Munchies is My Show Theme This Week: Soul Snacks Cookie Company!Music for this Segment: CHIC featuring Nile Rodgers - Let's Dance(Live At The House Sídney 2013)Everyone wants to be a leader in a world where people don't often possess the experience or expertise to be in the lead. That is gained from mastering the skills and learning to follow. Ralph Rolle is a prime example of learning to follow becoming born to lead.Ralph followed his older brother in learning the drums, but that he led him to becoming a premier musician, who has created music with everyone from super producer Nile Rodgers and his iconic disco/R&B group Chic, pop legends Sting and Bono, the 1st woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Aretha Franklin, hip-hop giants Biggie Smalls and Queen Latifah, jazz superstar Chris Botti, the queen of Neo-Soul Erykah Badu, Vanessa Williams, soul crooner D'Angelo, songstylist India Arie, Lady Gaga, Dolly Pardon, Bono, Roger Daltry, John Legend, Joss Stone, Elvis Costello and playing in the resident band for N.B.C. ‘It's Showtime at The Apollo' for over 15 seasons. Ralph has also served as the musical director for syndicated “The Caroline Rhea Show” and he served in the same role for Japanese R&B/soul superstar Toshi Kubota.Ralph took the time, any time he had the time, to stop and cook and enjoy life. It helped him to come down from the tension and time on the road that was always in motion. Cooking, another gift he received from his mother, gave him the peace of mind he needed to slow down and breathe. And in learning his way around the kitchen, he started to bake. hat stayed with him and when he was hanging out with his musician friends, he would have his signature cookies. At first they laughed, but quickly the request became “please bring those cookies with you!”Over time, his cookies found their way into the hands of clients such as Westside Market, Franks Market, and many more. Good Morning America host chose Soul Snacks for her holiday gifting in 2011. In 2015, Bette Midler and Ralph met when Nile Rodgers and Chic were the guest artists and Ms. Midler's annual Hulaween Charity event. Ralph had his “cookie calling card” with him. Ms. Midler loved Soul Snacks so much that she placed orders for her family and friends. Soon, he was selling his cookies at Melba's, a legendary soul food restaurant in Harlem. The orders poured in and soon, he was featured in CNN, BET, ABC and FOX networks, in New York Times newspaper and in The Source and Vibe magazines. From there, Ralph gave birth to “SOUL SNACKS.”SOUL SNACKS offers a variety of delicious cookies such as Georgia Oatmeal Raisin, Peanut Peanut Butter, Down Home Double Chocolate Chip, Ebony and Ivory Almond Cookie, Grampy's Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie, French Cocoa Chocolate Chip, Miami Raisin Walnut, Chunked Up Chocolate Walnut, Cranberry Oatmeal Raisin, Joyful Gingerbread and the most recently added, but now #1 seller, Sweet Potato Cookies. “Inside of every cookie is years of heart, soul and lots of pride that has been the main ingredient of SOUL SNACKS Cookies for over a decade.”All Rights Reserved © 2026 Building Abundant Success!!Join Me on ~ iHeart Media @ https://tinyurl.com/iHeartBASSpot Me on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/yxuy23baAmazon Music ~ https://tinyurl.com/AmzBASAudacy: https://tinyurl.com/BASAud

After studying music business and releasing her debut EP, "Everything I Couldn't Say," Syd found her voice as both a singer and songwriter. We talk about his late start in reading music, having learned to play by ear first, and then how moving to New Orleans provided a unique musical experience and education. Jay shares insight on the balance between touring and freelancing, and that when bringing his career back to Philadelphia years later, it was thanks to having maintained connections in the music industry that he was able to quickly find more opportunities. You never know who you might connect with and ask you to sub in for a gig, last minute. Jay shows us how to say "Yes" with confidence, and build the professional career that works for you. Don't let someone else define your career! About Jay Webb: Jay Webb is one of today's most versatile and in demand trumpet players, seamlessly moving between the concert hall, the recording studio, and the world's biggest stages. Born in Hamburg, New Jersey, Jay was introduced to the trumpet at the age of three by his father. His natural ability and sharp ear were evident early on, and by fourth grade he was already playing in the school band. From there, his talent and dedication propelled him into a lifelong career in music. Jay's newest project, The DST Band, is a heartfelt tribute to legendary trumpeter Doc Severinsen. With dazzling recreations of Severinsen's most memorable performances, the ensemble breathes new life into beloved big band classics such as Stardust, I'm Getting Sentimental Over You, and Flying Home. This episode opens with a powerful breakdown of Donald Trump’s record‑shattering 2026 State of the Union address, which clocked in at approximately 1 hour and 48 minutes, making it the longest in modern U.S. history. Trump used the marathon speech to declare a “Golden Age,” emphasize economic gains, tout border crackdowns, and highlight national security moves—all while sparking tense clashes with Democrats in the chamber. The show then shifts to the entertainment world, where Tina Knowles publicly stood up for Tiny Harris amid 50 Cent and T.I.’s escalating feud. Does she sound like Adele, Billie Eilish, or Ella Fitzgerald? Glenn can't pick just one in this very special, music-filled edition of "The Glenn Beck Podcast" with rising star Emma Nissen. From the night B.B. King hit on Glenn's wife to Emma wiping her runny nose right before shaking John Legend's hand, the stories flow between live renditions of Emma's songs. She reveals how a hemorrhaging vocal cord forced her out of college, led her to serve God in Sweden during COVID, and ultimately birthed her first song. She then unpacks the limits of contemporary Christian music, what's missing in Taylor Swift's love songs, and how “Jesus and jazz” is the sound the next generation has been craving. With searing honesty, she opens up about her battles with anxiety, eating disorders, and body dysmorphia — and the cognitive shift that finally allowed her to declare, “I am beautiful.” Sit back and enjoy the sound of the next generation's Jesus music: full of unpredictable scat, unbounded joy, and the still, small voice of God. Tensions flared as state officials were excluded from the probe, prompting concerns over transparency and accountability. Clipse was formed in 1994 by two brothers: Gene Thornton Jr, aka Malice, and his younger brother Terrence Thornton, aka Pusha T. From the beginning, they've worked with producer Pharrell Williams, originally as part of the acclaimed production duo, The Neptunes. But then, there was a 16 year gap between the third Clipse album, which came out in 2009, and their most recent album, Let God Sort Em Out, which came out in July 2025. This November, they were nominated for 5 Grammys, including Album of the Year. They were also nominated for Best Rap Song, for “The Birds Don't Sing.” It's a song that they made after the death of both of their parents in the span of just a few months. For this episode, I asked Pusha T, Malice, and Pharrell about the making of that song, which also features contributions from John Legend and Stevie Wonder.
