I razz him for using "brutally honest" in descriptions of two separate projects, but I love Brandon Ogborn. I know the comedian, playwright, podcaster, and reluctant "content creator" from our days on the same improv team at iO Chicago, Sports Team. Reminiscing about that time is the closest I get to nostalgia, and even then, Bubba had stories that made all our eyes pop out of our skulls. He's continued to amass stories as a parent of two young kids he makes fun of on Instagram, and now he's turned his parenting and growing up stories into a one-man stage show, SAHD (Stay-At-Home Dad). It's a funny, personal piece full of heart and the idiosyncrasies that make Brandon such a joy to know. You should see it in L.A. if you can (details below). Either way, enjoy this little slice of Brandon. We talk about: his dead dad, ADHD, growing up Christian nationalist in the Midwest, out-of-body experiences vs. astral projection, people outgrowing homophobia, the accuracy of Pixar's Soul, reckoning with the statistical unlikelihood of Hollywood success. Also, there is one f-slur and a very quick mention of child sexual abuse. This Is Your Afterlife is made possible by listeners like you on Patreon. David Voss (1938–1991) was one of the foundational figures in the development of contemporary dance in Minnesota. A composer, musician, dancer, choreographer, and beloved teacher, he helped shape generations of artists through his work with the University of Minnesota Dance Program and Minnesota Dance Theatre. His influence extended far beyond choreography; he was known for his extraordinary musicality, intellectual curiosity, and deep commitment to nurturing dancers as artists.Born and raised in south Minneapolis, Voss studied music at the University of Minnesota before beginning what became a lifelong relationship with dance. While accompanying classes for Loyce Houlton, he was encouraged to study modern dance himself, eventually becoming an integral artist with Houlton's Contemporary Dance Playhouse, which evolved into Minnesota Dance Theatre. Over the following decades, he composed music, danced, choreographed, and taught, becoming one of the defining artistic voices of Minnesota's dance community. Voss joined the University of Minnesota faculty in 1972, where his teaching profoundly influenced generations of dancers. As a choreographer, he created more than sixty works and was recognized for his ability to bridge music and movement with remarkable sensitivity. He was also an internationally respected guest artist, teaching and creating work in Australia and New Zealand. David Voss died of AIDS on June 22, 1991, at the age of 53. Even after his death, his legacy endured. The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts requested his choreographic films and had planned to include him in its Oral History Project documenting dancers affected by AIDS, recognizing the significance of his contributions to American dance.

In this heartfelt episode of Better Call Daddy, host Reena Friedman Watts reunites with her childhood friend Carre Gordon to talk about loss, connection, and healing. The two reminisce about their carefree days growing up together in Kentucky before Carre shares her journey through grief after the sudden loss of her son, Grant, during what began as an ordinary birthday celebration. Carre opens up about the unexpected signs and messages she's received from Grant, and how they've shown her that her bond with her son didn't end it just changed shape. The conversation moves through the role of spirituality, the healing power of community, and the lessons trauma can teach us about strength and vulnerability. Together, Reena and Carre explore mediumship, the idea of soul contracts, and what it means to stay connected to someone you've lost. Carre's story is a gentle, grounded reminder that grief isn't linear and that love doesn't disappear, it just finds new ways to reach us. If you or someone you love is navigating loss, this episode offers comfort, honesty, and the reassurance that you're not walking through it alone.

We also dive into some funny moments at home (including a "Farter's Day" gift and a few toilet mishaps!) and talk about the simple joy of watching the next generation grow up.It's these quiet, honest moments that make everything else worth it. Welcome back to Talk My Credo Podcast #213!This week, the crew dives into one of the most important cultural conversations in hip-hop right now:Is today's music helping or hurting Black culture?Using the controversy surrounding Yung Miami's "Spend Dat", along with criticism from India.Arie and Nicci Gilbert, and responses from Trick Daddy and Uncle Luke, we break down how music influences values, identity, and the next generation.Does art simply reflect culture—or does it actively shape it?Can we support artistic freedom while still holding space for accountability within our communities? Before we get into that, we kick things off with a recap of our July 4th weekend, react to some of the internet's wildest viral moments—including racist Facebook groups getting trolled, the B2K vs. Pretty Ricky Verzuz, and a UPS driver who finally snapped on aggressive dogs—and even address some unexpected podcast drama. This is one of our most thought-provoking episodes yet—you don't want to miss it.In this episode:

In this Think Thursday episode, Molly explores reminiscing as more than nostalgia. After returning from a family reunion, she reflects on how shared stories can reconnect us with earlier versions of ourselves and remind us of the courage, humor, resilience, and connection that are still part of who we are. Key Points Reminiscing is not just remembering events; it is reconnecting with identity, meaning, and emotion. Autobiographical memories help us understand our personal life story and the versions of ourselves we have been. Family stories can preserve shared identity by reminding us what we value, what we survived, and how we belong to one another. Healthy reminiscing can support behavior change by reminding us that our current emotional state is not the whole story. Reminiscing is different from rumination. Rumination loops in shame or regret, while reminiscing helps us integrate the past with curiosity and compassion. The past can be a courtroom or a library: rumination puts us on trial, but reminiscing helps us retrieve something useful. Science Mentioned The hippocampus helps organize memory and context. The medial prefrontal cortex is involved in self-reflection and personal meaning. The default mode network becomes active when we think about ourselves, our past, our future, and the stories that shape our lives. Erik Erikson's stage of integrity versus despair describes the process of looking back over life and making meaning from both joys and losses. Think Thursday Invitation Take ten minutes to intentionally reminisce. Look through old photos, listen to a meaningful song, ask a family member to tell a story, or think about a place you used to love. Ask yourself: What version of me was present in that memory? What mattered to me then? What does this memory remind me is still part of me? What is one small way I could bring that version of myself into today? Closing ThoughtLooking back is not always about wanting to go backward. Sometimes reminiscing helps us gather pieces of ourselves we forgot we could bring forward. ★ Support this podcast ★

I, like perhaps everyone, find myself reminiscing from time to time. Reliving past experiences opens parts of my identity that used to be so much more prevalent than they are today. Experiencing a sense of nostalgia and longing for those times is not uncommon, and yet I realize it's a bit of a trick played by my mind when I'm able to step back and observe it from a distance. I share a bit about that experience here, which I hope you enjoy. Perhaps it will spark some reflection of your own. Thanks for listening. As always, Much Love ❤️ and please take care.

Welcome back to episode 382 of the Chasing Daylight Podcast! We kick things off by celebrating the explosive growth of the Vegas sports scene, but quickly pivot to a harsh reality: local golf is getting incredibly expensive, and course conditions are taking a hit. Between skyrocketing green fees that forced us to move the VGN Finals to Legacy and new housing developments squeezing out classic layouts, we air out some serious frustrations this week. Plus, Matt recaps his wild subway encounters in New York, we preview our upcoming VGN major at Boulder Creek in 110-degree heat, and we dive deep into the brutal grind of US Open qualifiers. Episode Highlights:Contrasting the Las Vegas sports boom with the rising cost and declining conditions of local golf courses. The VGN Finals are officially moving to Legacy Golf Club after extreme rate hikes at Revere. Matt recounts his chaotic New York trip, rained-out Yankee games, and meeting a Bruins fan in a sweltering subway. Testing out the new high-grip, carbon-insole golf shoes from Parlinks. The story behind Matt's "lucky" 425-yard, cart-path-assisted drive at Boulder Creek. Surviving the upcoming 110-degree VGN major at Boulder Creek and blazing fast greens. The tragedy of new housing developments ruining the layout at Desert Hawk. Reminiscing about Primm Valley Golf and the world's slowest hot dog vendor. Breaking down the US Open qualifying format and the heartbreak of a player losing their spot by picking up a marker. Jason Hartman and Sara talk about the enduring strengths of income property as a wealth-building tool. They reflect on how the market has circled back to new construction and similar interest rates from nearly two decades ago, though property prices have significantly increased. They recount success stories from their recent live event, highlighting how disciplined investors have achieved financial independence through long-term real estate portfolios. To assist modern investors, they promote digital tools like Property Tracker for deal analysis and advocate for a diversified approach including short-term notes. Finally, they emphasize that real estate remains superior to volatile assets like stocks or gold because it provides multi-dimensional returns and protection against inflation. https://propertytracker.com/ empoweredinvestorpro.com Key Takeaways: 0:00 Reminiscing 2:54 We are 'area-agnostic' 5:58 Empowered Investor LIVE Debrief 11:46 Notes and income property's 6 dimensions of ROI 16:33 It's ALL just math.
