I hadn't realized just how dominant the Rock Dance influence was during this time, but looking back, it was everywhere. Many tracks from that era didn't make it into these two volumes, but one that certainly stands out (next to Kelly Clarkson's “Since You've Been Gone” on Volume 2) is the Jacques Lu Cont Thin White Duke remix of “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers. This song was massive, and you practically couldn't escape it. This period also marked the rise of another French DJ besides David Guetta: Bob Sinclar. Though he'd been honing his craft since the late '80s, it wasn't until this era that he seemingly exploded onto the scene with hits like “Love Generation,” “World, Hold On (Children of the Sun),” and “Rock This Party (Everybody Dance Now).” His meteoric popularity even led to him headlining one of Hugh Hefner's parties at the Playboy Mansion. The event was later released as a two-volume set of House and Disco, aimed at the jet-set crowd. David Guetta, of course, is also in the mix here with some of his early work, including Juliet's “Avalon” and the huge “Love Don't Let Me Go.” As promised, we replaced the rock version of Roger Sanchez's “Turn On the Music” with the Axwell Electro House remix, which was the go-to version at the time. Paul Oakenfold (another 90s mainstay) was enjoying renewed success during this era, hitting #1 with “Faster Kill Pussycat,” featuring the incredible vocals of Brittany Murphy (may she rest in peace). For those wondering where this year's earlier hit “Perfect (Exceeder)” originated — it's straight from this time period, and we've included the Martijn Ten Velden remix, which stays true to the original but is more DJ-friendly. We also have to give major props to Peter Rauhofer (may he rest in peace) for his prolific output during this time. His remixes, which blended Progressive and Electro House, had wide appeal across dance floors. We've highlighted his stellar work on “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera, “Killer” by Seal, and “Maneater” by Nelly Furtado — all of which hit #1 on the Dance Club charts. While we wanted to include his remix of the Vanity 6/Prince-penned “Nasty Girl” by Inaya Day, we decided it was a bit too much from one producer. Two DJ duos that went on to achieve massive success are Moto Blanco, represented here with Mary J. Blige's “Be Without You” (originally credited as Bobby Blanco), and Freemasons, who shine on Beyoncé's “Deja Vu” and Faith Evans' sassy “Mesmerized” — a personal favorite.

Joachim Garraud on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 8/28/24 After seven years at the Conservatoire de Nantes (Nantes' classical music conservatory), Joachim Garraud, a musician with a passion for technology, developed his musical and artistic skills to become one of France's most influential producers in the early 2000s. He has collaborated with David Bowie, Kylie Minogue, Beyoncé, OMD, Deep Dish, Eurythmics, Paul Johnson, Cassius, Cerrone, Moby and Vitalic. He has been a close collaborator to Bob Sinclar and Jean-Michel Jarre in their musical projects for over 20 years, and has co-composed and co-produced David Guetta's hits such as "Just A Little More Love", "Love Don't Let Me Go", "Love is Gone" and "The World is Mine". Joachim, nominated for a Grammy Award in the "Best Remix" category, was the first French artist to use Pro-Tools, a leading music production software back in 1992. His Paris recording studio became one of the main meeting points of the influential musical movement known as "French Touch", of Daft Punk, Cassius, and Air fame. In addition to his producer's hat, Joachim Garraud has won several awards for his live performances at festivals around the world, including Coachella, Love Parade, Technoparade, Lollapalooza, Tomorrowland, Ultra Music Festival and Exit Festival. Joachim developed stage concepts ranging from the use of live musical instruments (he was the first DJ to play the Keytar) to the development of techniques linking video and live show (the first DJ to use synchronized video or 3D visual elements) to the development of mixing tools such as the Pioneer DJM-800, which became a standard in the deejaying industry. Today, Joachim Garraud has produced nearly 300 titles and played close to 900 shows on 5 continents. www.joachimgarraud.com About The DJ Sessions - “The DJ Sessions” is a Twitch/Mixcloud "Featured Partner” live streaming/podcast series featuring electronic music DJ's/Producers via live mixes/interviews and streamed/distributed to a global audience. Increasingly, I'm getting questions from my clients about whether they should apply to a position they see on LinkedIn – or go directly to the company's website. I want to start by saying loud and clear: I DO NOT recommend putting your resume on your LI profile. When a recruiter accesses your LI resume, it has not been customized to a specific job. In fact, your “generic” resume may not speak to the position the recruiter is offering at all. While that may be because the job they are offering isn't in your area of interest, it could also be a job you would be interested in even though it's not in your primary focus area. It's much better to have the recruiter reach out to you and for you to obtain a copy of the job description so you can tailor your resume and cover letter accordingly. Now that I've stepped off my soap box, here are the pros to applying via LinkedIn. LinkedIn – the Pros -The “Easy Apply” function is, as the name implies, easy. You can cut corners and submit stored information and materials. Why I don't love it: The stance I take with my clients is the “+1” approach – which you've heard me talk about if you've listened to very many of my episodes. Doing one more thing in addition to just applying online like everyone else. In other words, Quality over Quantity. Should speed really be your primary criterion for deciding how to apply to a job? -You can connect with people at that company and/or people connected with the hiring manager/other decision makers. Love/don't love: I love LinkedIn – as you know – and connecting with people who can help facilitate your +1 approach is always a good idea. BUT – you can still do this if you apply directly to the company. -The recruiter can easily click over to your LinkedIn profile to see who you're connected with. This gives them the potential of reaching out to a mutual connection to learn more about you. Love/don't love: I love the ability to do this on LinkedIn – but again, a recruiter can do this via your resume if you apply directly. I put clients' LI URL on their resumes every time – and you should, too. MAKE SURE YOU'VE CUSTOMIZED IT. -LinkedIn will direct you to similar job postings. LinkedIn's algorithm will suggest searches for you, and you have the ability to receive alerts when potentially interesting openings appear on LinkedIn. And you can save jobs you've applied to for future reference. Love: This one's a clear benefit of utilizing LI. LinkedIn – The Cons -Because it's easy to apply, it can be crowded – and LI shows you how many people have already applied, which can feel discouraging. You'll likely have a smaller pool when you directly apply. -It's easy to take short cuts. It can be very easy to use a stored resume, forego a cover letter, or otherwise not make your application unique to this job opening. -Applying via LinkedIn works best when you have a relevant and complete profile. If you are applying for a job outside of your current area of expertise or industry – in other words, you're pivoting or reinventing your career – your experiences may be largely irrelevant to that position. And because it is so easy to click over to your profile, recruiters are more likely to see that irrelevance up front than with a direct apply. Applying Directly to the Company – Pro's -There's no middleman when you apply directly – there's less chance for a tech error. -The Company Website. This is a Love/Don't Love for me, because applying on LI doesn't preclude you doing company and industry research. In fact, I don't find company websites particularly helpful for the research you need to do on a potential employer, because it's so propagandized. I find it most helpful for getting a sense of senior leadership, products/services, and how they present themselves to the world (and to whom they are presenting themselves). -You can better tailor your materials. John Povlovitz comes to the Authentic Living show today to remind us of what could be the 11th commandment: “Thou shalt not be horrible.” He wants us to imagine what the world would look like if we all obeyed that command. He reminds us that the way we treat others is the most tangible and meaningful expression of our belief system. And he's come here today to talk about his book: “If God is Love Don't be a Jerk: Finding a Faith that Makes Us Better Humans.” In today's world, where we see professed Christians carrying signs with Bible verses on them into the fray of an insurrection right along with Nazis and White Supremacists, one has to wonder what is happening to Christianity. John is going to tell us both what is happening and what we can do about it. Be here for this.

In the latest episode of "Loki" Season 2, Episode 5, titled "Science/Fiction," written by Eric Martin and directed by Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead, the time-bending adventure continues as Loki finds himself alone at the TVA, raising questions about the whereabouts of his friends. The narrative takes us on a journey through various branched timelines, starting with San Francisco in 1962, where we encounter Frank, an escaped convict from Alcatraz. This historical reference ties into the real-life escape of Frank Anglin and the Anglin brothers from the infamous prison. The narrative then shifts to New York in 2012, introducing Dr. Willis (B-15), who is a pediatrician, and Cleveland in 2022, where Don, formerly known as Mobius, has become a jet ski salesperson. Loki promises Don that he can reunite him with his sons, raising the stakes of their mission. In Pasadena in 1994, we meet Doug, known as O.B., a science fiction writer whose office resembles his timeline office, introducing the intriguing concept of "The Zartan Contingent."As the episode unfolds, Loki grapples with controlling his time-slipping abilities, finding himself in the timelines of the people he seeks. The division between science and fiction becomes a central theme, with science representing "what" and "how" while fiction embodies the "why." Loki realizes that understanding the "why" is crucial to saving the TVA from an impending threat. This mission is underlined by the concept of "Aura," a distinctive quality of character, and the need to reunite the group. The narrative delves into Sylvie's timeline, which is eroding, and explores the emotional connection between her and Loki. The song "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" by Rose Royce sets the tone for their reunion and the resurgence of dying branched timelines.Loki gains the ability to control time-slipping and discovers that the key isn't just about where, when, or why, but rather about "who." He travels back in time to the TVA before the loom explosion, offering a fresh opportunity to save himself and his friends.OUR SOCIALS:We are featured on STARWARS.com! She also studied at Ohio State University, where she was in the Miss Ohio State Beauty Pageant. However, she considers The Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City as her true educational home. Nicole then moved to Los Angeles where she continued to study the craft of acting with Susan Peretz (Dog Day Afternoon) at the Third Street Theatre. She was soon cast in Clay Pigeons, directed by David Dobkin, playing opposite Joaquin Phoenix, and also starring Vince Vaughn, Janeane Garofalo, and Georgina Cates. RTD has revived the Doctor Who hype machine and Ben and David have been lapping it up. They enthuse over the many costume reveals for Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor and other members of the cast. Ben, who has been in England this past month, liked the Doctor Who trailer that dropped before EuroVision this year on BBC and is picking up a palpable buzz about the coming 60th anniversary series. Plus speculation if there will be a musical episode with Ncuti? Then, in the second part of the podcast, at about the 20:30 mark, we chat about the 2023 William Hartnell story rankings in Doctor Who Monthly. The intro and outro music is "Love Don't Roam" featuring Neil Hannon and composed by Murray Gold. We recorded this episode on 19 May 2023.
