Drikus Combrinck from Capicraft chose Alliance Resource Partners as his stock pick of the day and Devin Shutte from The Robert Group chose T. Rowe Price. Combrink said: "I'm going with a US listed coal player with 40 years of production, Alliance Resource Partners, listed on the Nasdaq and is sitting at a 6% dividend yield. Shutte said: "I have a US asset manager, T.Rowe Price founded in 1937. They have around 1.6 trillion dollars in assets under management, that's about four times the South African economy, just to put that into perspective.
Devin Shutte from The Robert Group chose Nintendo as his stock pick of the day and Jonathan Fisher from PSG Wealth Sandton Grayston chose Anglo American. Shutte said: "I'm going for Japanese listed Nintendo so, you know this is a company that's been around for for decades, it is a really strong name and a market leader in console sales in the US for more than two years. It's switch console has been incredibly well received but the issue has been a lot of the growth has gone into mobile gaming. Nintendo has recently announced a deal with an augmented reality studio called Nanotech to kind of monetize and create these mobile games for iconic characters." Fisher said: "I'm going for Anglo America, probably one of SA's favourite Bellwether stocks. It seem to be on a continued good run, they came out with full year results for December in February and they were okay but I think what the market was looking at is the prospects going forward. The share price has really done well and it's done well on the back of metal prices and mineral prices or ore prices that they mine, really going up nicely."
Devin Shutte from The Robert Group chose Fortescue Metals Group as his stock pick of the day and Meryl Pick from Old Mutual Investments chose Life Healthcare. Shutte said: "I'm going for an Australian listed iron or producer, it is risky; a single commodity producer called Fortescue. What I like about it is that it's an ungeared balance sheet, it's one of the top four largest producers globally and I think particularly well positioned to benefit from the continuing upswing in demand from from iron ore." Pick said: "I'm going for something that traditionally would be thought of as defensive, a hospital called Life Healthcare. In the covid crisis ironically, in the middle of a healthcare crisis it has not been good for hospitals. In some cases surgeons and anaesthetists have just taken an active decision that they need to be on standby for covid patients and therefore surgeries and things have been deferred, so I'm banking on that pent up demand for elective surgeries to come back."
Devin Shutte from The Robert Group chose Distell as his stock pick of the day and Mia Kruger from Kruger International chose Visa. Shutte said: "I'm going for a domestic company tonight, it's one that I have spoke about before on the show and it is Distell. They're in a very tough space at the moment but what you are buying here is an incredibly local run company with a really resilient portfolio. Kruger said: I'm going for Visa, they came out with their earnings results last week and they did slightly better than analysts expected and they're still expecting a growth of around 8% this year.
Gerbrand Smit from N-e-F-G Fund Management chose Remgro as his stock pick of the day and Devin Shutte from The Robert Group chose Brookfield Renewable Partners LP. Smit said: I'm going to go for Remgro, it has been undervalued for quite some time and came out with its results on 30 June 2020 and its intrinsic value of the asset we're about R154 a share. It traded today at R101 but it has below R100 for quite some time now. That's about a 35% discount on what the book value of its assets were on 30 June 2020, that means almost the low of where Covid prices were. Shutte said: "My stock is a US listed company it's called Brookfield Renewable Partners and is one of the largest owners of renewable assets globally; most of them hydroelectric assets. And these assets have a hundred year lifespan so the return on investment of them is very compelling.

Devin Shutte from The Robert Group chose Distell as his stock pick of the day and Deryck Janse van Rensburg from Anchor chose MTN . Shutte said: "I'm going for Distell Group Holdings. What you have here is a very well run locally facing company, predominantly with an impressive portfolio and they were really hit by an unexpected series of events in in the lockdowns and their results reflected that. But, we got an update last week for three months and there was actually a better than expected recovery coming through." Janse van Rensburg: "I'm going with a big bell, a SA related stock which is MTN. Obviously we know the components of the business, what the business does and we saw a new CEO coming in from a Nigerian perspective, and the Nigerian business is also extremely cash generative."
Ricus Reeders from PSG Wealth Sandton chose Transaction Capital as his stock pick of the day and Devin Shutte from The Robert Group chose Adcock Ingram. Reeders said: "Possibly a little bit cynical, but it's Transaction Capital. They're in the business of funding the taxi industry and government has put in a lot that will save the industry and Transaction Capital has said that the industry has almost returned to pre-lockdown levels." Shutte said: "I'm also going for a stock that generates most of its revenues in South Africa it's called Adcock Ingram, a really solid pharmaceutical manufacturer. They've had pretty stable growth from the results that we saw coming through the lockdown"
Business Day TV — Devin Shutte from The Robert Group chose Master Drilling as his stock pick of the day and Ricus Reeders from PSG Wealth Sandton chose BHP. Shutte said: "I'm going for a local stock, Master Drilling, a small but global drilling operator that earns most of its revenues in US$. In their recent results they revealed that they paused any spend on CAPEX with the lockdowns. They still managed to do their drilling operations. It's a lovely business that's incredibly well run with a long standing team there. It's going for a steal and is completely under-appreciated in this market Reeders said: "I'm going for BHP again, they've gone ex-div (ex-dividend) so the price has adjusted for that and for exactly the same reasons as last week, I think they are being pulled by two things, iron-ore and oil."
Business Day TV — Independent Analyst Chris Gilmour chose Afrimat as his stock pick of the day and Devin Shutte from The Robert Group chose Cisco. Gilmour said: "I'm sticking with the stock pick I've had for the past two or three weeks and that's Afrimat. I think the fundamentals are still very much in place if you look at the iron-ore price that keeps on rising, it's going nicely and as I say they're mining the iron-ore ata way lower level, way below where the current share price of iron-ore is at the moment." Shutte said: "I'm going for a traditionally hardware provider called Cisco systems. What they have done is very nicely transition their revenue which in the last reporting period has now just exceeded hardware and that software. They have very nice annuity revenue coming through, they've been cutting costs massively and have a really robust balance sheets with no debt sitting on it. Their return on invested capital is above 20% and at 14 historical earnings, it's not priced like a big tech stock due to its historical hardware view so we think it's a great opportunity and there is a yield on the stock as well."
Business Day TV — Independent Analyst Chris Gilmour chose Afrimat and Devin Shutte from The Robert Group chose Medtronic. Gilmour said: "Afrimat's Demaneng mine is pulling iron ore out of the ground at an all-in cost of about $30 a ton and you've currently got an iron ore price of north of $100 a ton, I think that's going to persist for quite some time." Shutte said: A US listed company called Medtronic. The unique products they're able to manufacture are in high demand at the moment and they've actually got the biggest product pipeline they've ever seen. They're spending a lot of money on R&D, they're operational cash flows are ramping up quite nicely, they've increased the dividend in the latest reporting period."
Business Day TV — Devin Shutte from The Robert Group chose Distell as his stock pick of the day and Nesan Nair from Sasfin Securities chose Mastercard. Shutte said: "I'm going for a local domestic economy facing play, the Distell group. A couple of reasons for picking them is that they are an incredibly well run operator that knows how to control costs. They have healthy margins coming through the business and it's a strong cash generator. " Nair said: I'm a long time fan of Visa but have warmed up to MasterCard recently. I think it's possible to own both business in the portfolio and I think that MasterCard with their market shares is poised for growth from this point onwards."

Business Day TV — Devin Shutte from The Robert Group chose 3M as his stock pick of the day and Chantal Marx from FNB Wealth & Investments chose SA Retail Bonds. Shutte said: "I am going for a New York listed company called 3M. This is a company that operates in the industrial, pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors and have been around for over a hundred years. What I really like about the company is 1) it is trading at one of the lowest valuations in probably a decade and 2) it has the amazing ability to reinvent itself, 20% of its products weren't even there 5 years ago and that's primarily due to almost 40% of their earnings are spent on research and development. We're going to come out of this Covid pandemic and the stronger companies that have been able to innovate and remain agile, my sense is they'll be best positioned for it and with 3M's good balance sheet I think it's definitely one to look at." Marx said: "We spoke about real returns earlier and installation linkers actually look interesting for the first time in probably 5 or 6 years. And if you look at retail inflation linked bonds for the 5 year it's trading at around 4,5% so that's a real yield that you'll get above inflation. Another option to invest in inflation linkers would be to buy them directly but you need a bit of capital for that or you can buy an inflation link ETF, unfortunately you're not gonna get an income from it but they should perform quite well over the next few months"
Classic 1027 — Devin Shutte, head of investments at the Robert Goup & Rowan Williams, director at Nitrogen Fund Managers
Business Day TV — Devin Shutte from The Robert Group chose Mr Price as his stock pick of the day and Jean Pierre Verster from Protea Capital Management chose Electronic Arts. Shutte said: "We've looked long and hard at mr. Price, a predominantly cash clothing retailer in South Africa. We think they are incredibly well position for that consumer recovery although it may not be as strong as it was. They have over R4bn on the balance sheet and are trading at evaluation we haven't seen in years. They are well positioned to take up some of the market share left by Edcon and we believe although they've had a few missteps they will take advantage of the ensuing recovery." Verster said: "I'm picking a US stock called Electronic Arts. It is one of the largest gaming companies in the world both pc gaming and online gaming. They're also well known for the Fifa range of online games and as we know a lot of sports now is not being played or at least is being placed in front empty stadiums and for people who want to still have that feeling of sport; they can then go to esports and play Fifa 2021 and that'll be good for Electronic Arts. I think you we will have more gamers spending more hours on games and buying all kinds of interesting products within the game spending their money with companies like Electronic Arts."
Business Day TV — Devin Shutte from The Robert Group chose 3i Group Plc
Business Day TV — Devin Shutte from The Robert Group chose Italtile as his stock pick of the day and Graeme Körner from Körner Perspective chose EPE Capital. Shutte said: "I'm going Italtile, so this is a born-and-bred tile manufacturer, distributor and retailer and they've really integrated across that, they been around for 50 years and what I like about Italtile is that it is really just a consistent compounder over the year, it's got really stable balance sheets, ungeared in that regard and they managing to grow eternal equity, to grow profitability through really tough trading conditions and I think these are the businesses you want to own when I SA Inc maybe starts to move even just a little bit in faith." Körner said: "I'm gonna go with one of my old darlings which is Ethos Capital, we talk about small caps and we're not scared of them. The hypothesis is the September NAV was was R11,69 it's trading at R7,25. When you watch that share as closely as we do, because we've got an obsession with it, you see sellers sitting at R7,45 buyers R7,25 there's not much stock. The other thing is, last time I was here we said Remgro because you just got the feeling that a lot of people are getting frustrated with these big discounts to NAV. We spoken about African Rainbow Capital as well. So you get to a point where you say; great underlying assets that a 40% discount is just stupid, so I think what I'm saying is the register has firmed up, my best guess is that there's a window of opportunity if you want to get these things before they take off."
Business Day TV — Devin Shutte from The Robert Group chose Aspen as his stock pick of the day. "I'm going for a bit of a controversial one namely Apsen (the second best performer on the top 40 for the day). The latest guidance from management is that they are really getting a handle on their debt which is what they promised the market and the shareholder. Yes they got rid of some of their well running businesses but they are also generating sufficient free cash-flow to pay off that debt."
Business Day TV — Devin Shutte from The Robert Group chose Distell as his stock pick of the day and Rowan William from Nitrogen Fund Managers chose Allied Electronics Corp A (AEL) Shutte said: "My pick is a small liquor company based out off Stellenbosch, and why I like it is because - you've got great operating earnings growth in a tough environment, a really good portfolio of assets that they're getting good growth in the alternative labels. Fantastic cost containments with a really strong balance sheet and as a result you've got this really great little compound that plows through the economic circle, irrelevant of what's happening so yes we think there's significant upside. William said: "We are going with Altron, a similar kind of theme in terms of a great equity compound, I think you've got a business that had a difficult period, has gone through quite a significant restructuring and is now in a new phase of growth with a completely new management team. They streamlined service offerings with a very clear understanding of what it's trying to deliver to its customers around ICT and is on the cusp of some secular growth in terms of the adoption of technology cloud-based services. It has quite a big exposure to the UK as well, so it has diversified away from South Africa, it is still on a reasonable multiple and the earnings growth - at least for the next few years looks fairly certain and solid."
