Wind and solar resources are providing more clean, low-cost electricity to the grid than ever before, but the intermittent nature of renewable generation requires careful planning. In the latest episode of the Power Trends podcast, NYISO Director of Grid Transition Udayan Nair breaks down what the latest data reveals about wind and solar performance, and what it means for reliability in New York as electricity demand continues to grow.Notably, the electric grid has seen remarkable growth in behind-the-meter solar capacity in recent years, surpassing the solar goal in the state's Climate Leadership Community Protection Act (CLCPA).“We had a goal in CLCPA to reach 6000 megawatts by 2025,” Nair said. “We were at over 6,800 megawatts of capacity last year and it's grown by about 1,000 megawatts per year since 2020. That's a remarkable success in terms of the capacity that has been added to the grid.”Front-of-the-meter solar, which refers to grid-connected solar installments that participate in the NYISO's energy markets, has also seen increased capacity in recent years. While no new wind installments were added in 2025, existing units performed better than usual due to stronger wind patterns, Nair said. Nair discussed factors that contribute to renewable performance, including seasonal weather, demand patterns, and curtailments. There was a time when China was thought to have the world’s most polluted cities. However, Beijing’s sustained efforts have overturned that situation. Instead, when the question of polluted cities comes up, eyes turn to India now. According to the noted Harvard economist Gita Gopinath, a former top IMF official, poor air quality is driving investment away from India and is causing more damage to its economy than US President Donald Trump’s tariffs. There is enough policy experience, and scientific knowledge, to mitigate the situation. Indeed, India has within itself some of the world’s best scientific brains. The question is whether it has the political will to take the right measures, including pricing essential services such as water appropriately to curb overuse and wastage. In this wide-ranging conversation, host Ravi Velloor speaks with Chandran Nair, the Malaysian-born, founder and CEO of Hongkong-based Global Institute for Tomorrow on how India could take cues from China to fix its foul air and water. Mr Nair, a biochemical engineer who in 1994, set up the first foreign environment consultancy in China. He is also a frequent traveller to China and India. He is also a sceptic of the consumption-based growth model that he says is causing irreparable damage to the environment. Vijit Nair, VP of Product Management at Corelight, joins Sean Martin on the floor of RSAC Conference 2026 for a conversation about what it takes to move security operations from AI-assisted to AI-autonomous. Corelight is the fastest-growing company in the network detection and response (NDR) space, and Nair has spent six years helping build the platform from early network monitoring to its current position as a Gartner Magic Quadrant Leader. The company's open NDR platform transforms raw network traffic into high-fidelity, unopinionated evidence -- and that evidence is now powering the next leap: agentic triage. Corelight's newly launched Agentic Triage product moves beyond the "level one" AI assistant model -- where a system answers questions but takes no action -- to a "level two" agent that actually investigates and triages alerts. It identifies the riskiest entities in an environment, collects all associated context and data, runs a full investigation cycle, and delivers a verdict with full evidence attached. Nair calls it "bringing the receipts": analysts see not just the conclusion but every step of the reasoning. Early results show a 10x increase in investigation speed and 60-70% of alerts being automatically triaged. The network is having a resurgence as an essential visibility layer, and Nair explains why: attackers have adapted to EDR. Nation-state-style campaigns like Volt Typhoon and Salt Typhoon operate in the network layer, targeting unmanaged devices, routers, firewalls, and VPNs that endpoint tools cannot see. Corelight almost always finds something in the first 30 days of a pilot deployment -- from shadow IT and shadow VPNs to active red team attacks using tools like Sliver-based C2 frameworks. On the question of SOC adoption, Nair pushes back on the assumption that hesitation comes from the top. The hunger for AI-powered tools runs from CISOs all the way down to the analysts dealing with alert overload and understaffed teams. A recent customer put it simply: "This is amazing. Please don't take it away from me." Nair frames the path to full autonomy as a spectrum -- from human-controlled to fully agentic -- and draws the comparison to Waymo: the journey is measured and incremental, but the destination is inevitable.
