As promised, we took the chance to ask Chad Michael Murray himself about Edgar Evernever. His answers will shock you (unless they don't). We also talk about some other experiences at C2E2 2024, and digress into the sacred state of uncle-hood. CLICK HERE TO FIND US ON YOUR FAVORITE PODCATCHER. CW: Discussion of serial killers, stalking, fan harassment, union-busting, true crime, gaslighting, manipulation, gunfire, asphyxiation, trauma. This show didn't break us with an organ-harvesting cult. Didn't destroy us with Edgar Evernever launching to heaven in an Evel Knievel rocket. It didn't even keep us down forever after Archie got mauled by a bear. No, instead, it's this episode, a boring, lackluster musical episode that simply took all the tension and through-lines of this season and flattened them as thin as a piece of paper. I mean, who cares who TBK is? Why bother creating parallels with the Core Four's trauma and Percival's attack on Riverdale? Anything for this show's creator to introduce another failed musical for which, by the way, he wrote the book. This is one of Riverdale's worst episodes yet, and that's saying something folks. Dare to dive in as we discuss “Chapter 112: American Psychos” this week on The Doghouse. Find us at: iTunes Spotify Patreon CW: Gaslighting, faked suicide, parental abuse, false imprisonment, vigilante violence, grief, loss of a parent, childhood trauma, confronting past trauma, blood, suggested animal cruelty, suggested brutal assault. Starting this season, we knew that Archie's uncle was going to be appearing, that Jughead would find his grandfather, and that somehow, some way, Alice Cooper was going to escape The Farm. And all of that happened, but not nearly in the order we had thought. This season has been about digging deeper, about getting to core pressure points for our characters and poking them constantly. For once, the gang has been given perspective, and while many are continuing the path they've already pursued, they're also struggling to understand. We thought the loss of Fred Andrews might ruin this show; instead, it seems they've re-doubled their efforts to make something a little deeper and a little more subtle, even if Edgar Evernever plans to fly a self-made rocket off an abandoned hotel roof. That, and the fact that Betty Cooper might have just unleashed a force we haven't seen since season one. We're tying together loose threads for some arts and crafts this week in The Doghouse! Betty’s quest to free her mom from the clutches of The Farm leads to an especially loopy episode of Riverdale, one that has Dial M For Maple wondering if Edgar Evernever ever had a plan in the first place. Hosts Marah and Cameron are on hand to recap the madcap “Dog Day Afternoon,” and the pair attempts to sniff out which of the shows shady new characters is the shadiest of them all. Marah also ponders the logistics of Betty’s passport procurement plan, while Cameron is just happy to see beloved social worker Miss Weiss again. Plus, a listener points out that we should take a closer look at Donna Sweet, a Stonewall Prep student with a name suspiciously similar to Donna Tartt, whose debut novel may hint at where the season is headed. It’s an all-out assault on The Farm as Betty takes the fight to Edgar Evernever, Archie becomes a vigilante (again), Jughead deals with a deadly class and we recap “Chapter Sixty: Dog Day Afternoon.” The post Riverdale After Dark: “Dog Day Afternoon” appeared first on Comic Book Club.
What in the world is going on with Riverdale this season? In just this one episode, Betty dismantled a bomb while FBI agents looked on, neglecting to help... Edgar Evernever went full Evel Knievel/Brad Pitt from about 4 different Brad Pitt movies... Cheryl continued to chill with her mummy bro AND we had a car wash full of shirtless teenage boys. We're a little late but we're finishing up Riverdale! Chapters 53 through 57 coming soon! Join Jackie and Steph as they discuss this episode that they quite enjoyed, covering everything from their hopes for The Farm to their frustration with Jughead to their many questions about the "alphanumeric system" Edgar Evernever uses to sort all his blackmail tapes.
Feat guest: Hailey 3x16 asked the question, ‘can’t we be seventeen?’ 3x17 said: NOPE. - Maria Once upon a time, Maria and Hailey watched a lot of One Tree Hill together, so we HAD to gush about Chad Michael Murray’s first full episode of Riverdale appearing as Edgar Evernever! We cheer on woke!Archie speaking truth to power to get his friends out of prison, talk about how we don’t want Jughead and the rest of the Serpents to be cops like, at ALL, and sympathize with poor Veronica dealing with the most teenage thing of this entire episode as she copes with her parents’ divorce. In addition to having lots of reactions to that overly dark and dramatic drug raid scene, we muse about how many different forces of evil are preying on the vulnerable in this town - from Cheryl getting charmed into the Farm to Mad Dog having to accept Elio’s offer to shield his family from Gladys’ drug trade to the ever-looming threat of the still-present Gargoyle King that attacked Baby Teeth! Things are wild, but hey, at least we get some hot pillow talk from our favorite detective power couple to keep us fed. Listen now! *Thanks for your patience, y'all! We were already running behind on editing, as you know, then two-thirds of the way through editing 3x17, our audio program crashed and lost all our edits and we finally said ENOUGH! We had to download and learn a new program to edit with, so we appreciate your patience. We have been diligently recording each week throughout the last episodes of the season and are now editing and posting ‘em as fast as we can! Thanks for listening, loves!* As always, check out our bodysuit looks on Insta at bodysuits4bughead or Twitter at B4B_Podcast. RIP Luke Perry, love forever. ————————————————————————————— A message from Rebecca, who is taking a step back from the podcast for the foreseeable future: “I want to start off saying how much fun this experience has been for me and how I want to ultimately figure a way to be able to play a role again in the future. I am in grad school now and my program is just overwhelming me. I'm also just a person so sometimes life gets to me too. I want to be able to be the best podcast co-host to my dear friend Maria, and to those who listen! Right now, I just have to take some time for myself and focus on school. I will be back! Because I need to know who that damn Twiggy-Smalls is and I have too many bodysuits now for my own good! Thanks to Maria! Thanks to RAS! Thanks to Bughead! XOXO Rebecca.”
"Join us! We welcome you!" Just when you think Riverdale can't get any weirder, The Farm fully lets its cult flag fly in "Fear The Reaper." This week, Dial M For Maple is thrilled to welcome back special guest host, LaToya Ferguson! Though LaToya used to write The A.V. Club reviews for the series, she tapped out earlier this season, so Cameron does his best Edgar Evernever impression to draw her back into the cult of Riverdale. Plus, we say goodbye to Josie McCoy—one of the show's only characters with any common sense—and LaToya shares her well-founded research on all the ways Riverdale actually mirrors Glee. *a quick note: Apologies for the lower audio quality this week—we had to record on the fly in an irregular space. We'll step it back up next week, we promise! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Feat guest: Maria’s sister/best friend/fellow longtime Heathers stan Sofia “We have definitely been Heathers stans since before people casually called things stans. Since like...teen years, I guess? Is that when we started watching the movie like, all the time? We bought the DVD and we were just like, yas bitch.” - Maria “Yep, we bought the DVD, when people still bought DVDs” - Sofia We love Heathers, we love Heathers THE MUSICAL, we love Bughead, we love Riverdale musical episodes!!! We talk about our personal history with Heathers and Heathers the Musical before delving into what has quickly become one of Maria’s favorite ever episodes of Riverdale. In a podcast we recorded live, we point out parallels to the Heathers movie, screech and squeal through all the Bughead scenes/kisses/singing/dancing/casual arson, sing along to our favorite songs, gush about all the amazing performances and costumes (we are super grateful they let Casey Cott sing this year!!!), and, finally, we have heart palpitations during the “Seventeen” Bughead/Choni double duet, AS ONE DOES. Oh, and it wouldn’t be a Riverdale musical episode without a killer ending...you better believe we have thoughts about the introduction of Edgar Evernever aka when they dropped a wild Chad Michael Murray and ran! As always, check out our bodysuit looks on Insta at bodysuits4bughead or Twitter at B4B_Podcast. RIP Luke Perry, love forever. *Thanks for your patience, y'all! There's a lot to decipher as we rocket toward this year's finale, so tune in and relive it all with us! Length - 01:17:32 Language - PG-13. (Contains adult language.)
After last week's musical number, Riverdale is back on track pushing its multiple lingering plotlines forward. We are introduced to the charismatic, yet creepy, Farm leader, Edgar Evernever and Cheryl goes undercover to help Betty recover Cooper family secrets...
feat: guests Nicki and Emma *This episode, as long as 3x10, are being re-recorded. Maria had originally recorded 3x10 live with Hailey and 3x11 live with Nick, but unfortunately both recordings were deleted due to a bug in the audio program we used. Thanks for your patience with these episodes as we re-recorded and caught up on editing* IT’S THE NOIR EP and we’re OBSESSED with all the styles, the super noir music, Jughead’s suspenders, Veronica’s hat, you get it. We talk Archie’s PTSD, Veronica’s teenage mob princess tendencies, are obsessed with the entire Bughead-discovering-Penelope-Blossom’s-Maple-Club sequence, and in our own ways, we’re all VERY passionate about Kelly Ripa and her guest appearance as Hiram’s mistress. In other ship news, we talk our opinions on Veggie/Varchie/Archosie following Varchie’s breakup. And in cast news, we talk Chad Michael Murray being cast as Edgar Evernever(!!!!!!), Season 4 renewal, some Charles Melton side projects (THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR and that Ariana Grande music video) and Nicki is very late to the party about Charles/Camila and Cole/Lili dating IRL. Archie needs to be on concussion protocol. And we have an interesting theory about Edgar Evernever's true identity...
